If you want to enjoy the Hindi Commentary, I'd rather prefer Star Sports on TV, where you can not only listen to the Hindi commentary continuously but also some of the legend Radio Commentators like Susheel Doshi, whose commentary is really a superb one, are doing good commentary, he used to do the same on radio long time back in 70's and 80's, at that time also on radio there were two separate channels devoted exclusively to hindi and English commentary. What I've noticed that unlike the English commentary on Star Sports, in Hindi commentary there are lesser gaps and the Hindi commentators keep telling some good records and entertain the people in really a nice manner!!! [AI] YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED
Chris Byers tackles readers' hardware and software conundrums. Sound haS Stopped Q I'm unable to get sound from my Windows 7 hp laptop. I've checked everything I can think of and have now run out of ideas. Bill Stevenson The loss of sound could be due to a number of things, Bill. Here's a troubleshooting checklist for you to try. Click Start, type system volume in the Search box and press Enter. In the System Volume dialog box that pops up, check that the volume is turned up and not muted. Ensure the correct sound device is selected. Some computers have more than one sound card, particularly if the graphics chip offers integrated audio. Click Start, type sound in the Search box and press Enter. In the dialog that pops up choose Sound, then check your speakers are set as the default and aren't disabled. Check the status of the sound device. Click Start, type device manager in the Search box and press Enter. Expand 'Sound, video and game controllers' in Device Manager and find your sound card. If no red crosses are displayed against its name, the card is fitted and working correctly. Remember to check the laptop itself for a manual volume control. This might be a wheel or a button. Ensure these are set correctly. Look for a mute button, too. Next, check that sound isn't disabled in the Bios. To enter the Bios, reboot the laptop and press F2 before the Windows login screen appears. All systems are different, but sound settings should be easy to find. If you're still without sound, try updating your drivers and Bios. Since yours is an HP laptop, head to tinyurl.com/2jj7p and search for the drivers and downloads for your specific model. If none of these solutions fix your problem, you could arrange for the manufacturer to repair the laptop under warranty; if this has expired, take it to a local computer shop. However, if one of the components has broken, rather than a bad setting being responsible for the loss of audio, your best bet is to pick up a USB sound card. These cost as little as ukp8 online. MISSIng ituneS playlIStS Q When I got my pC back after being repaired, everything that was on it before was still there, except itunes. I'm worried I'll lose the playlists on my 30GB ipod classic if I plug it into my pC after reinstalling itunes. Cameron Carter It sounds as though your hard drive was backed up and wiped in the course of the repair. Since your email and the rest of your files are intact, it's likely anything else that was previously on your PC will also be present - we simply need to find where the playlists are stored and tell the new version of iTunes where to find them. First, locate your 'Music' or 'My Music' folder in the Start menu. If there's a folder called 'iTunes' within it, back it up to an external drive or USB memory stick. Next, download the latest version of iTunes and reinstall it (select No if it asks whether existing files can be overwritten). The new software should pick up your music and settings. Unfortunately, unless you previously backed them up, you may find you're no longer able to play any DRM-protected audio files in your library. If there's no iTunes folder to be found in the 'Music' or 'My Music' folder, use Windows Search to locate the items that should be in there. It's also worth trying a file-recovery program such as Recuva (recuva.com) if this search yields no results. In future, back up iTunes regularly. Go to File, Library, Back Up to Disc and insert a blank CD or DVD. unloCkeR authentICIty Q You've previously recommended unlocker, but Internet explorer (IE) 8.0 won't let me download it. I managed to obtain the file using google Chrome, but Security essentials then blocked it and said it was a trojan. Russell Ellis Don't worry, Russell. Unlocker is an authentic program. We check and scan for viruses for every program we recommend. However, Unlocker seems to have been identified as a false positive (a genuine website that has been wrongly flagged as malicious), so you need to tell IE 8.0 to 'Disregard and continue'. If IE wrongly reports a site as suspicious, click the 'More information' link and choose 'Disregard and continue'. For extra peace of mind, download Unlocker from our own website (tinyurl.com/2fevefv). VIRuS on a uSB StICk Q as a regular speaker at conferences, I carry my presentations on a uSB memory key and plug it into the organiser's laptop to access them. In doing so, I believe my uSB drive has picked up some malware. In Windows it appears on the desktop as a green icon with 'keygen' written on it. It also creates a message box saying 'updatenetFramework'. If I delete the file it simply reappears. norton antivirus 2009 hasn't managed to eradicate it, and I now have the same message on all the uSB drives I use. Dr Alok Modi Back up any files and folders you require, then wipe your hard drive and reinstall Windows. You need to remove the files without booting into

Dear Friends, I have been listening to this commentary since the beginning of CWC. The only difference is that now it is officially available in India. You don't need facebook account. The facebook is required if you want to join their forums etc. The website is however badly designed. I tried to contact the site and failed miserably. Let us all write to them for covering IPL. In fact, Mahendra, if you remember the same service was available through Cricinfo at the time of 20/20 WC in 2009. Please do write to the site or even better to their webdesigner ID8labs. I am going to do that. Dear Friends, I just spoke to Mr. Tanmay Mohanti, the owner of the ID8Labs. He acknoledged that the site is having some issues and it is being rectified. He told me that the site has just come up in 8 days. He was very friendly and is willing to make alterations. He also told me that they are trying for IPL as well. [AI] Indian trio create mobile app for BMW
PTI, Mar 3, 2011, 10.35am IS http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/tech/news/telecom/Indian-tr Three Indians have created a mobile phone application called MyCityWay for BMW. NEW YORK: BMW has partnered with three Indians to create a mobile phone application called MyCityWay, which helps people find everything from a place to eat to the closest park to relax in. BMW has invested $5 million in the company. I am thrilled to announce that we have just signed our first strategic partnership with MyCityWay, Ian Robertson, responsible for sales and marketing at BMW, said in Munich recently. As a mobile app, MyCityWay provides users with information on public transportation, parking availability, and local entertainment for over 40 cities in the US. Another 40 cities will be part of the global rollout, including Munich, of course, he added. The creators of MyCityWay are Puneet Mehta from Chandigarh, Archana Patchirajan from Chennai and Sonpreet Bhatia from New Delhi. This is a huge boost and vote of confidence, Mehta told PTI. This brand (BMW) stands for a lot of things, he added. The trio came into prominence when their original travel application called NYCWay was voted by New Yorkers as their favorite in a city-wide competition launched by NYC mayor Michael Bloomberg, last year. The NYCWay app allows New Yorkers and visitors to the city to check out tonnes of handy information, including live traffic updates, restaurant inspection results, WiFi locations and even local crime data. The app, the creators say, will soon be introduced in four cities in India -- Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore and Delhi. The application will also be part of new sub-brand being launched by BMW called BMW I. In a first move, two models will be launched under the new sub-brand from 2013 -- the BMW i3 and BMW i8 -- the company said. -- With Regards Pradeep T.S Email: pradeep_bana...@rediffmail.com Mobile: 9845925188 Skype: pradeepsocialwork To unsubscribe send a message to accessindia-requ...@accessindia.org.in with the subject unsubscribe. Re: [AI] accessing formula bar in excel 2007
Hi, There is usually more than one way of accomplishing a task in Microsoft Office. You don't need to use Excel's formula bar to enter formulas. What kind of requirement is this? To input a Frequency function, try the following. 1. Select the range where you need to insert the frequency distribution making sure that you select one cell more than your data. Select 11 cells if you are working with 10 cells of data. 2. Press F2 and type the formula with range references or range names whichever you are using. =FREQUENCY(S2:S11,T2:T11), or =FREQUENCY(Students,Marks) 3. Press Ctrl + Shift + Enter to enter the formula as an array formula. --- On Thu, 3/3/11, karan yourdestiny thekarandancingd...@gmail.com wrote: From: karan yourdestiny thekarandancingd...@gmail.com Subject: [AI] accessing formula bar in excel 2007 To: accessindia@accessindia.org.in Date: Thursday, March 3, 2011, 1:00 PM hi members i have to enter frequency formula in excel 2007 and it has to be written in formula bar. in excel 2003, i can access it by using route jaws to pc cursor and then by pressing left mouse button. but when i follow the same procedure in excel 2007, nothing fruitful happens. what shall i do? please help me. thanks and regards karan mob:78 38 76 12 23 To unsubscribe send a message to accessindia-requ...@accessindia.org.in with the subject unsubscribe. Re: [AI] Math software tools
Hi Ruchi, You may be better off asking this question on the blindmath list. What level of geometry is your son doing? I have used German film with a rubber mat throughout highschool, which was a long time ago for my geometry needs. Saksham (www.saksham.org) may stock geometry equipment. You can also contact foreign suppliers such as the RNIB (www.rnib.org). If you are looking to draw shapes on the computer, then Microsoft Logo could be an option worth investigating. Alternatively, look at the Iveo technology from Viewplus Technologies. If you need your son to draw graphs, then try using Microsoft Excel for a start. AAR is another package that could be used to plot graphs though it does require the user to learn its syntax. Sorry dont know the eligibility criteria for your own scribe. Ask UPSC and let me know when you get to know. [AI] Windows 7 SP 1 innstallation issue fixed
Hi! I'm sharing my personal experience with the installation of windows 7 SP 1. This SP got released on Feb 22nd and I read in one news article that it will be available to all the users through windows update. However, till yesterday, this update failed to show up in my important update list, which then forced me to look into the issue. I first confirmed whether this update is actually available in windows uppdate to all the users, and, on the Microsoft's website it was clearly written that, they have rolled out this update uniformly for all the customers. After this, I came across a KB article which listed few issues which could cause the SP1 update to not show up in windows uppdate, and to my surprise Intel HD graphics driver was one of the culprits. I matched the driver version given in the list to the driiver version installed on my machine and it matched. Then, I looked up on Acer's website (my laptop is Acer Aspire 5745) to check whether there is any update available, but as expected, they had not released any updates. So, finally I did which any techi will do, I uninstalled my manufacturer's website and then allowed windows update to install the same drivers certified by Microsoft. After this, to no one's surprise, Windows 7 SP1 appeared as an important update. This post is for anyone whose symptoms matches mine and do it at your own risk. Note:- You can read through the KB article which I'd referred myself here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2498452 Regards Arpit To unsubscribe send a message to accessindia-requ...@accessindia.org.in with the subject unsubscribe. [AI] Fw: Induction of Visually Impaired into IAS
Posting something from another group. Kanchan - Original Message - From: National Platform For The Rights of the Disabled (NPRD) To: murali.alat...@gmail.com Sent: Friday, March 04, 2011 10:48 AM Subject: Induction of Visually Impaired into IAS Dear Friends Given below is the written reply to questions posed by CPI(M) Rajya Sabha MP to the Prime Minister on the induction of Visually Impaired Candidates in IAS. Two of the candidates, Ajit Kumar Singh and Ashish Singh Thakur had secured a directive from the Central Administrative Tribunal asking the Government of India to induct them. The government has however till date not implemented the order. In the meanwhile the National Platform for the Rights of the Disabled had represented the issue before the PMO. It first wrote a letter to the PM and then accompanied these two aspirants to the Principal Secretary to the PM Shri T K A Nair. Despite assurances, nothing tangible has come out. Brinda Karat had also written to the PM and also met Shri Nair in this connection. She had also raised this issue during a meeting with Shri V Narayanasamy. It is against this background that these questions were placed for answer in the Rajya Sabha. Rajya Sabha Unstarred Question No. 829 (To Be Answered on 03.03.2011) Induction of Visually Impaired Candidates in IAS 829. Shrimati Brinda Karat Will the Prime Minister be pleased to state: a)Whether visually impaired candidates are eligible for induction into the Indian Administrative Service? b)Whether because of denial of their claims, the Central Administrative Tribunal had to intervene and order their induction? c) Whether the government has taken any steps to implement the CAT decision? d)Whether there are any more deserving disabled candidates for induction into IAS? ANSWER Minister of State in the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs; Minister of State in the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions and Minister of state in the Prime Minister’s office. (Shri V Narayanasamy) (a): Civil Services Examination (CSE) Rules, 2010 inter-alia, provide that partially blind candidates are eligible for appointment into IAS. (b) to (d): The Orders of the CAT Principal Bench in various OAs are under consideration in consultation with Department of Legal Affairs. Note: It is evident that that in the light of the adverse comments from the CAT and earlier orders from courts, the rules have been revised in 2010 debarring fully blind persons for induction into IAS. Hi Kanchan, Where is the term 'partially blind' defined? The current disability law has only two terms, blind and low vision. The next civil services recruitment advertisement is also out, even there they have classified visually impaired candidates in to three: blind, partially blind and low vision. Re: [AI] Fw: Induction of Visually Impaired into IAS
The answer is both No and yes. No because the DoPT has always resisted induction of totally blind persons. They have had to approach courts and get orders in their favour. In this specific case also even after an order from the Central Administrative Tribunal the DoPT has till now not agreed to induct them Murali On Fri, Mar 4, 2011 at 12:12 PM, Kartik Sawhney sawhney.kar...@gmail.comwrote: And, is the same thing reflected in the CSE 2011 recruitment advertisement as well? Yeah, you can call on 1251 from your landline/WLL/cell phone without prefixing your area code or visit at: www.licindia.co.in You have to take sort of guidance from LIC agent who can advice you the best insurance plan as per your eligibility criteria. As per my knowledge, there is no special provision for the visually challenge persons for LIC insurance. Well, as per my concerned, I have taken Jeevan Saral which is an accidental policy. The policy gives good savings, loan eligibility and pension as well. You have a great choice to pay your premium monthly, quarterly, half yearly or yearly basis. I hope, the above information will be inline for your query. [AI] Mobile Accessibility: Code Factory Goes Android!
Mobile Accessibility: Code Factory Goes Android! Features Touchscreen Navigation, Speech Recognition, Web and Email Access, and Nuance’s Vocalizer® Text-to-Speech FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Terrassa (Barcelona), Spain, March 2nd, 2011 Today, Code Factory is delighted to introduce Mobile Accessibility, a screen-access application that allows people who are blind or have low vision to use an Android phone in an intuitive, easy and simple way. Mobile Accessibility is the first accessible Android application that permits intuitive touchscreen navigation of Android phones, featuring text readback via natural sounding voices powered by Nuance’s Vocalizer® text-to-speech technology. “Mobile phones have proved to be among the fastest-changing consumer technologies in the world – particularly with the advent of the Android platform. So making mobile phones accessible to the blind and visually impaired is therefore challenging, fascinating, thrilling and totally exciting all at the same time,” explained Eduard Sánchez, Code Factory’s CEO. “There was no doubt that we would target the Android platform, as we very quickly realized that there was a real need in this specific market for an accessible solution that can provide a user-friendly experience for all blind and low-vision consumers. Mobile Accessibility allows everyone, from beginners to the most tech-savvy, to use an Android phone, no matter if it has physical keys or is touchscreen-only.” Mobile Accessibility is two products in one: • A suite of 10 accessible applications (Phone, Contacts, SMS, Alarm, Calendar, Email, Web, Where am I, Apps and Settings) that have been specially designed for the blind and visually impaired. They all have a simplified interface whose textual information is spoken using Nuance Vocalizer® voice synthesis. • A screen reader that allows users to get out of the suite and navigate the standard interface of their phone. “Mobile Accessibility provides both access to the mainstream apps of the phone and access to special apps for blind people. Why? Because our philosophy has always been to allow our users to use the phone the same way as everyone else. However, we also believe that having some special apps for the most common tasks can be extremely useful if it means gaining in productivity,” added Eduard Sánchez. The major features of Mobile Accessibility are the following: • Touch navigation: You can use Mobile Accessibility not only with the trackball or the physical keyboard of your phone, but also with its touchscreen! Simply move your finger around the screen and the voice synthesis will read the text located under your finger. Or if you prefer, you can also swipe up/down/right/left and tap on the screen to navigate through the interface. And if you wish you can enable sound and vibration feedback. • Easy to input text: In or outside the Mobile Accessibility suite you can use the touch QWERTY keyboard as well as the speech recognition to write text quickly and easily. Imagine writing an SMS or an Email using your voice only. • Voice synthesis: Code Factory has been making mobile phones accessible to the blind and visually impaired for many years now, and they know that the voice matters... and a lot! For Mobile Accessibility, Code Factory has partnered with Nuance® to leverage its trusted Vocalizer text-to-speech technology, providing consumers with natural sounding voice readback. “With around 314 million visually impaired persons around the world, we believe that it’s our joint obligation to facilitate access to information and mobile communication to everyone” says Arnd Weil, VP General Manager Automotive / Consumer Electronics, Nuance Communications. “By offering screen reader functionality for Android phones using Nuance Vocalizer, Code Factory gives blind and visually impaired persons access to one of the most important mobile platforms with the market’s most natural sounding and intelligible voices.” Inside the Mobile Accessibility suite of accessible applications you can do the following: • Phone: Make calls, answer calls, hear the caller ID and manage your call log. • Contacts: Manage your contacts, even those from social networks such as Facebook. • SMS: Compose and read short messages. Manage conversations. • Alarms: Set your alarms. • Web: Full web browser experience, similar to what you can find on your PC. Jump by the control of your choice (links, paragraphs, headings, forms, etc.) to navigate faster to the information of your interest. Bookmark your favourite webpages. • Calendar: Create, edit and delete a calendar entry. View all events per day, week or month. • Email: Full access to your Gmail account • Where am I? : GPS application that gives you updates on your current location. • Settings: Change ringtone. Configure feedback and notifications (vibration or audio). Configure keyboard echo, punctuation verbosity, speech pitch and rate, etc. • Quick access to date and time, phone status information such
