Re: [AI] Regarding the terms netraheen/drishtiheen was originally message from a mother
The word Pragya Chakshu is pronounced in gujarati as Pragnya Chakshu or Pragna Chakshu which literally means one who has the eyes (here it means vision) in the form of intelect. That means a person who has and uses the eyes of mind (intelect) to see the world. I think this is a respectable word. however i don't find anything wrong in using the words like (Drishtiheen). Another word Surdas is used in Gujarat for a vidually impaired person. Re: [AI] CANDIDATES WITH THEIR scribe needed for the petition.....
Dear Syed, As I've told you over the phone, I am taking your matter as a strong example of our problem an the disadvantages of using a bad Scribe in the examination. Generally when the Writer is with les than 60% or lower marks, such type of hurdles come very often. I would need more and more true example through E-mails from other examinees too. So I can enclose them in support of our Petition. Regards, Amit Bhatt - Original Message - From: S. M. syed hussain syed.ci...@gmail.com To: accessindia@accessindia.org.in Sent: Saturday, August 06, 2011 9:18 PM Subject: Re: [AI] CANDIDATES WITH THEIR scribe needed for the petition. Hai all, Let me give you an example based on the scribe issue. I sat for the UGC NET at Coimbatore tamilnadu on June 26 2011. The exam was held at Sri Ramakrishna College of Arts Science for Women Coimbatore. I was given a scribe who was a baccalaureate in chemistry. 1. The person didn’t know how to shade the OMR sheet and had to be explained, while the time had already started clicking away. 2. The person’s pronunciation was not good, --- I’m polite rather, it was horrible. Examples: Essential pronounced as Essen t ial, lively pronounced as live li, lively as live leeness, historian as historican, aids as aits etc. These words I could guess, but the person read so many other words as horrible as possible; literally I happened to make the person spell almost all the words. 3. The person didn’t know the use of punctuations. We can make jaws read some, most, all or none but the person was reading out every punctuation mark. 4. Highlight of all, the person skipped the passage in reading comprehension part and just read the questions and its options. I came to know the blunder only at the concluding minutes. (People who have written net exams would understand what I’m saying.) First, I thought from the 6th question its research aptitude and therefore they had asked about historical research. But when she read the 7th answer I could not guess anything because it was again about intellectual historian. So I jumped to the 11th question. Fortunately, I did not attend the questions from 7th to 10th. Yet the unfortunate thing is that the person did not tell me anything about the paragraph typed above the reading comprehension questions. These were audible mistakes. I don’t know about invisible things, if I have to think in that way. I was in a dilemma whether or not to sit for the proceeding papers. The reason is if one fails in the first, second will not be evaluated. Amidst all these confusions, I have to make a decision because if I leave the hall without pointing out the blunders, then no one will understand or no one will change things and the blame would be on me. Finally I requested the invigilator, who came only at irregular intervals, to change the scribe. His answer was not appropriate so I demanded for a change because with the same person I cannot write a paper on English literature. Unfortunately, change happened. The new person who came as a scribe was worse than the previous. Thank god, the invigilator was observing the mistakes. He was asking the scribe to read the mispronounced words properly. I really got pissed off. I warned him to change the scribe and if the third alternative was the same then I would be calling up the news agencies and I would be reporting the issue to make it big. He tried intimidating me and talked about the rules duties and the help he is rendering to me. As I did not give up he had to finally bring his peer invigilator as scribe (a lecturer of computer department). The third person was better than all the others but not to the mark. As it was my area I corrected mistakes and decoded the meaning. One instance, students of English would know the first question asked in the 9 marks section, who are university wits was the actual one. The person read as how was the university wits? Another problem was the officials where not well informed about the extra time provided for us. They themselves decided that it’s 30 minutes but actually it was 45 minutes. So they alarm me and also completely disturb my flow of thought. Then I had to waste some more time in pointing out the rules from the instructions paper (fortunately I had the paper). Mind you, I have already wasted precious time in arguing and changing several scribers. I’ll be having state eligibility test soon. I talked to the authorities to find a solution but vain attempt. They play games by forwarding me back and forth. One says that no one can check the scribers ability it’s based on luck. Another says for the sake of one person he cannot change norms. Perhaps Each university has its own unwritten rules in NET or SET though UGC has its own unfair norms. Re: [AI] CANDIDATES WITH THEIR scribe needed for the petition.....
Hi Amit sir, When I wrote the NET exam 2 years ago, the scribe filled the answer to question number 3 in the space provided for question number 4. She was a clerk in the university and I was not happy with her abilities. On 8/7/11, Amit Bhatt misterbh...@gmail.com wrote: Dear Syed, As I've told you over the phone, I am taking your matter as a strong example of our problem an the disadvantages of using a bad Scribe in the examination. Generally when the Writer is with les than 60% or lower marks, such type of hurdles come very often. I would need more and more true example through E-mails from other examinees too. So I can enclose them in support of our Petition. Regards, Amit Bhatt - Original Message - From: S. Another says for the sake of one person he

[AI] young drivers afre the main cause of road accidents [please give your important feedback/suggestion]
Here I am pasting a artical on young drivers are the main cause of road accidents please give your important feedback and suggestion so that I can improve my skill of writing of articals. Please tell if you find any thing that is objectionable, wrong or any thing that has to be added. YOUNG DRIVERS ARE THE MAIN CAUSE OF ROAD ACCIDENTS Driving below 18 age is on the rise very rapidly in our country. Through a survey conducted by a NGO, showed that 70% of road accidents are due to these young drivers. The police is very much unable to control this threat, that can take a danger shape in future. This is more encouraged by the parents, by giving them the vehicle to drive. The percentage of accidents due to young drivers is more, due to several reasons. Some of them are mention below; • They drive the vehicle at a very high speed. • They some time drink and drive, that is very dangerous not only for the young drivers but also for alder ones. • Performing stunts also lead to these accidents. • Young drivers some time try to shatter the traffic rules. • One new thing is also noticed that, some time young drivers also race on the roads. We can prevent these road accidents through several ways. Main are listed below; • The parents should not be giving the vehicle to these drivers. • The government should also strict its rules for these drivers. • When ever the police catches any this type of driver, it should first send the parents of the driver into the jale. • The laws like imprisonment for 6 to 10 years should be their for these type of drivers. • The government and local body should also organize seminars or workshop to spread awareness that driving below 18 age is a crime. ___--_ thanks for spending 1 minute for reading my artical. -- abhishek Search for old postings at: http://www.mail-archive.com/accessindia@accessindia.org.in/ To unsubscribe send a message to accessindia-requ...@accessindia.org.in with the subject unsubscribe. Hi, Look at this mail posted by Rajesh sir a few years ago! Asudani, Rajesh rajeshasud...@rbi.org.in Wed, Aug 13, 2008 at 10:30 AM Pradip Kumar Das CUTTACK: It was sheer determination and lots of perseverance for this 15-year-ol physically challenged boy to achieve what even thousands of able students of his age failed to accomplish. Jagannath Gauda of Gochhabadi village of Buguda block in Ganjam district has never felt let down for being born without the forelimbs. He has once again proved that if there is a will, there is definitely a way when he passed this year's Matriculation examinations in second division as a regular student. For not having any of the hands since birth, Jagannath started writing with his legs when he entered the primary school of his village. Since I was able to do a lot of things with my legs like brushing my teeth, cleaning my tongue, drinking and eating, I thought of why not give a try to hold a pencil and start writing with my legs. With some initial hiccups, it worked wonders and soon I mastered the art, says a confident Jagannath who has since then not looked back and very easily went on to pass the Class IX examinations in 2007. Pre-board exam He also cleared the Class X pre-board examinations last year from Buguda People's High School by writing the answer scripts with his legs. But during the final school leaving (Matriculation) examinations for which he had to appear the test at nearby Balipadar High School in March this year, the State Board of Secondary Education (BSE) authorities did not allow him to write the answers with his legs. Instead, the centre superintendent engaged a class IX student of the school to write the answer sheets for him. A reluctant Jagannath had to dictate the answers to the junior girl in a separate room. Although, he was not satisfied with the arrangements, Jagannath was confident of clearing the examinations with flying colours. I could have got better marks writing with my legs, Jagannath, who secured 51 per cent of marks in the examination, rues. Except for putting and removing his clothes, Jagannath doesn't depend on anyone else in carrying out his daily chores. He can comb his hairs and play certain indoor games like ludo and cards with his legs. He plays football with elegance but loves to watch cricket matches in TV, says his father Surendranath Gauda who works as a village choukidar to support a family of six members, including three sons and a daughter. Poverty Seeing the child born without the forelimbs, the neighbours and relatives suggested the parents to name him after Lord Jagannath. But unlike Lord Jagannath, none of this Buguda Jagannth's siblings are handicapped. Although, his parents tried their best to arrange artificial limbs for the boy but acute poverty has denied them the opportunity. I took him to National Institute of Rehabilitation Training And Research (Nirtar) at Olatpur in Cuttack two years ago but the doctors their demanded Rs.1 lakh for the purpose which I am not able to arrange till date, says his father. Now, is there any provision that explicitly states that physically challenged people should not use their remaining body parts to write the exam? Or is there any general rule that candidates should write their exams only with hands? I couldn't see any such rule on the back of any of my hall tickets! [AI] Fwd: Seeing with your ears
hello, pasting below article, which get from another list. Warm Regards Wahid -- Forwarded message -- Scientific breakthrough: Seeing with your ears Thanks to a prototypical device, blind people can now scan their environment with special software that translates obstacles into sound warnings posted on August 5, 2011, at 3:50 PM The combination of a special pair of glasses, a webcam, and a smartphone can help the blind see again. Photo: Michael Proulx A neuroscientist has unveiled an amazing new device that could allow the blind to visualize what's around them, helping them to navigate through their surroundings. Though it's still just a prototype, the device, named the vOICe, was unveiled this week at the American Psychological Association meeting in Washington, D.C. It combines a set of goggles, a webcam, a smartphone, and earbuds to convert visual information into sound. Here, a brief guide to this innovation: How does the vOICe work? A webcam that's mounted in the goggles takes a snapshot, which is scanned from left to right by the smartphone's vOICe software program. Objects in the snapshot are assigned different frequencies and volumes, based on where they're located. Then the listener hears a soundscape where the changes in frequency and volume correspond to the objects in the snapshot image, again from left to right, says neuroscientist Michael Proulx, as quoted in Discovery News. If there's an obstacle such as an ottoman on the user's left, it will be represented by a shift in tone and frequency that occurs in the first part of the recording. Is this all new technology? Not really; the technology to convert visual signals into audio has been around for about 15 years, but with advances in phone technology, mobiles are now smart enough to handle the required imaging software, says Tibi Puiu on ZME Science. Also, the small size of newer smartphones is what makes this technology easily portable for the first time. Is the vOICe easy to use? Not at first: The developer has found that one of the biggest challenges is that it takes people three months of training to use it. But once a blind or visually impaired person gets used to the device, it's expected to give them much more independence than they would otherwise enjoy. Thank you Rajesh bhai. I have also come to know that RBI does not bound us with such arbitrary rule of using Scribe with less than 60% marks. I have saved an old recruitment advertisement given by RBI in 2010 where I could see no guideline given for on the use of the Scribe. Since you are working with them, could you see and find out the Scribe rules of RBI? Dear Amit Please find the minutes of Meeting about scribe policy held by CCPD on Feb. 19, 2008, and Guidelines issued by Maharashtra CPD at the behest of Bombay High court on December 20, 2006, in Marathi along with translation, enclosed. Recent order of April 29, 2011, clarifies that one grade junior means one year junior, and not one course junior... Let us hope that five candidates with desired scribes would come forth. If not, let me know and I myself would apply for any ongoing exams and come forth against the grave injustice being perpetrated on VI in the name of curbing cheating. -Original Message- From: accessindia-boun...@accessindia.org.in [mailto:accessindia-boun...@accessindia.org.in] On Behalf Of Amit Bhatt Sent: Friday, August 05, 2011 10:24 AM To: accessindia Subject: [AI] CANDIDATES WITH THEIR scribe needed for the petition. Dear friends, We will need at least 5 examinees along with their scribe to be presented in the Court if it is required at the initial stage of our petition process. I have been told by Advocate that he needs 5 people who wanted to take their exams using their faithful writers with more than 60% marks but they could not take the exams because of the existing rule of using Scribe with having less than 60% marks only. The Scribes may have to write something on the sheet if Court asks to do so. Actually we have to persuade the Court in an appropriate manner and for that Magistrate may ask us to present some facts. Please do talk to me on 9560175887 if you need any further understanding. Would request any of the 5 victim examinees to come forward with me to process the petition strongly against the arbitrary Scribe policies.
