Re: [AI] Mobility

2011-09-18 Thread Shadab Husain
Rahul,

I feel that good mobility mainly depends on how extrovert one is. So,
it may appear a pretty off-the-track comment, but rather than external
conditions, it hinges on the internal ones. Many of us don’t call a
waiter (or anyone at the service) due to the fear whether the
direction we are facing towards is correct, whether the voice pitch is
suited to the distance etc., but sometimes going against our nature
becomes necessary to bring enjoyment. Self-consciousness is the
biggest hurdle in mobility. Killing it increases confidence a
hundredfold.

Of course, one must know how to use cane appropriately and refrain
from taking undue risks. I reiterate that the blind who depend on cane
are exposed to risks and injuries.

Hi guys,

Thanks a lot for replying!
I think that there are some Apple Applications that have also been

So, in stead of spending so much on an assistive device, wouldn't it
be better to purchase, say, an iPad and download the applications that

However, I don't think that those applications work as efficiently and
accurately as some assistive devices do.

There are a few made by Abisee, which also produces the famous zoom-exe

 Dealer: Karishma Enterprises, Mumbai.
Not sure whether they deal in this company's standalone devices, but you
 can
ask them if they can get it for you on order.
Since generally these devices are costing more than 1.5 lakh, people go
 for
the devices which run with laptop. The cost is also substantially reduced,
it is within 1 Lakh. And you also have variety in this. You have Pearl by
Freedomscientific (65 Thousand), ReadItWan (Dealer Sparsh Products at 84
Thousand roughly) not sure of the company but the dealer is based in
Dehradun, some indian product made by Mr. Kiran S. Deshpande (at very
nominal price of Rs. 15 Thousand, consider the accuracy and aftersales
services while taking call on it).
But which kind of device one should choose, is purely an individual's
 choice
subject to easy availability of funds.
My personal opinion, devices running on laptop are getting developed more
than standalone devices due to cost and weight factor. But certainly it is
worth going for such devices, as you get excellent accurate material when
compared with normal scanner scanned text.

 Hello everyone,

 I have a question.
Is there a portable device using which we can scan and read printed
material without having to connect the device to a computer?
Most assistive devices have to be connected to a computer for reading
 printed material.
This can be very inconvenient because it is not always possible to
 carry a laptop with you.
So, please shed some light on the matter.

Hi guys,

Thanks a lot for replying!
I think that there are some Apple Applications that have also been
made for this purpose.
So, in stead of spending so much on an assistive device, wouldn't it
be better to purchase, say, an iPad and download the applications that
can be used for this purpose?
However, I don't think that those applications work as efficiently and
accurately as some assistive devices do.

Cheers,

Not clear on what is exactly happening when you say others could not be
focused
Anyways, remember in 2007 or 2010 you need to use tab / shift tab for next
and previous control in menu once you are in desired menu.

For switching between menus you use left and right errow keys.
Try maximising the window.
And if you are not comfortable with this ribbon interface, then either use
Jaws 12 feature which lets you use the menues in the old way like office
2003, or use some utility which is I think office classic or something which
converts your menues into 2003 menues.

Dear amar,
Regarding the accuracy of knfb, till now I am although not fully
satisfied but it makes your work at travelling less dependent
especially to read the instructions on the product packaging objects,
reading menus in restorants etc. so far I have tried only these
experiments and let you know about the documents scanning results
soon.

About the new handsets compatibility, I am not sure that whether they
have added new handsets as I had purchased old model of n82 from my
friend for this purpose.

I shall be more keen to get your exact feedback regard to instance of
inaccuracy while using the knfb reader so that I can experiment myself
and tell you about it.
So far of course, I could get the accuracy level up to 63 to 67% but I
think something is always better than nothing and there may be ways of
improvement methods in scanning but since I am new user would still
like to explore all the features.

For more information you may visit their website for the latest
releases wich may contain addition of new compatible handsets.

Thanks,

I might be absolutely wrong in this, but to my understanding this is because

2011-09-18 Thread Amar Jain
An obvious but small clarification: Registrants will be provided
medical consultation and not the medical checkup. Reason is
understandable, because neither we can have medical lab kind of setup

Please do carry your all previous relevant case papers, medical
reports etc. This will save experts time and will give them clear
understanding of your problem.
Look forward to meet AI members at RetinAware 2011!

 availing of this facility are

Since we can only accommodate the limited vacancies available after

 Delegate,

We would like to invite you to spot registrations for registering for
retinAware™ 2011, the national convention being organised by Retina

seated can continue to remain in their seats for the inauguration
session that begins at 11am. Those who come late will be requested to
 sit in the back.

To make the convention as comfortable for you as possible, certain
guidelines have been given by the officials, which must be adhered to,
for your own safety and that of others during the convention.

 The guidelines are:

[AI] Screening of ‘Havai Dada’ cheers up disabled kids

2011-09-18 Thread pradeep banakar
http://www.thaindian.com/ne

Mumbai, Sep 17 (IANS) A special screening of “Havai Dada”, a film
starring Anupam Kher and Tanuja, here Saturday cheered up disabled
children from non-profit organisation ADAPT, formerly called the
Spastic Society of India.

The film that has been produced by Karol Bagh Film and Entertainment
Pvt. Ltd. and directed by Ajay Karthik, will witness its world
premiere on UTV Movies Sep 25.

“It was a wonderful experience to watch the film with the kids of
ADAPT. Their reactions to the film were overwhelming and we had a
truly enjoyable time together,” Anupam told reporters here.

Set in a small village of India, “Havai Dada” revolves around the
loving relationship between a man and his granddaughter. He has never
travelled in an aeroplane and it’s his granddaughter who tries to
fulfil his childhood dream.

“‘Havai Dada’ is a movie that revolves around a little girl and her
struggles to fulfil a dream and we wanted to share this experience
with the kids of ADAPT. It’s a story that encourages the kids to
emerge stronger from their struggles and is sure to motivate them,”
said Sameer Ganapathy, business head, UTV Movies.

Hi Amar,

First of all, can I call you Amar Bhaiya?
And, secondly, I believe that most of the assistive devices are also

But which kind of device one should choose, is purely an individual's

 Hello everyone,

 I have a question.
Is there a portable device using which we can scan and read printed
material without having to connect the device to a computer?
Most assistive devices have to be connected to a computer for reading
 printed material.
This can be very inconvenient because it is not always possible to
 carry a laptop with you.
So, please shed some light on the matter.

 Subject: [AI] A question

 Hello everyone,

 I have a question.
Is there a portable device using which we can scan and read printed
material without having to connect the device to a computer?
Most assistive devices have to be connected to a computer for reading
 printed material.
This can be very inconvenient because it is not always possible to
 carry a laptop with you.
So, please shed some light on the matter.

 Cheers,
 Rahul

no problem, you have to remember the key sequence of office 2003 and apply
it on word 2007. however jaws will not support accurately while typing the
key sequence. e.g. you would like to go to autocorrect options, just type
alt+t then a to open autocorrect dialog. for normal layout view you can type
alt+v followed by d, jaws will say draft layout. you can also access all
menus with the key sequence of word 2003. like to insert a table you can
type alt+a-i-t, you will land on table dialog box.

remember all the key sequence of word 2003 and enjoy word 2007.

hope this will help.

Well said.
Sighted assistance, if available, should of course be used, with discretion,
for most mobility tasks, if not all, except of course if you are going to a

I however learn with dismay that a few NGOs for some conferences/seminars are

there, nor we can get all patients problems solved within 2 days.
Please do carry your all previous relevant case papers, medical
reports etc. This will save experts time and will give them clear
understanding of your problem.
Look forward to meet AI members at RetinAware 2011!

Hi can anybody tell me that since this convention is for two days,

Greetings from Retina India.

We are happy to inform that free spot registrations are available for

Since we can only accommodate the limited vacancies available after

seated can continue to remain in their seats for the inauguration
session that begins at 11am. Those who come late will be requested to

One way of doing it is to enable internet connection sharing, and then
create a YFy on computer.

Using the same, connect your mobile.
Other automated way of doing it is to use a utility called connectify.

Re: [AI] A question

2011-09-18 Thread Amar Jain

Dear Rahul,
I am proud to say and see this that still in today's culture, where people
feel old when you call them bhaiya or didi, and nor the parents teach these
values to their children, your parents have tought you those values and
sanskaars. Most happily you can address me as bhaiya. I feel proud to see
these values and respect. And I promise I will always keep the value of this
relation which you have made.
Anyways, coming to point of assistive devices: Well, it is individual's
choice. I won't say that assistive devices are inaccurate, because if it is
normal text, you can easily read it with minimum errors as the most of the
text is understandable. But if you prefer a device equipped with more
features, then surely you can go for IPad. Take the demo of the apps before
buying it.

Hi Amar,

First of all, can I call you Amar Bhaiya?
And, secondly, I believe that most of the assistive devices are also
highly inaccurate, so it's better to purchase a device like an iPad
for using the Apple applications which are made for reading printed
material.
The iPad also has many other good features.
According to you, which option should I opt for?

Thanks,

Dear Rahul,
There exist few devices which are standalone, and do not require laptop
connectivity.
For example, optelec clear reader plus, dealer: Barrierbreak
Technologies,
Mumbai.
Costing about 1 Lakh 65 Thousand. And after student concession its
below

1.25.
There are a few made by Abisee, which also produces the famous zoom-exe
which runs on laptop though.
Dealer: Karishma Enterprises, Mumbai.
Not sure whether they deal in this company's standalone devices, but
you

can
ask them if they can get it for you on order.
Since generally these devices are costing more than 1.5 lakh, people go
for
the devices which run with laptop. The cost is also substantially
reduced,
it is within 1 Lakh. And you also have variety in this. You have Pearl
by
Freedomscientific (65 Thousand), ReadItWan (Dealer Sparsh Products at
84

Thousand roughly) not sure of the company but the dealer is based in
Dehradun, some indian product made by Mr. Kiran S. Deshpande (at very
nominal price of Rs. 15 Thousand, consider the accuracy and aftersales
services while taking call on it).
But which kind of device one should choose, is purely an individual's
choice
subject to easy availability of funds.
My personal opinion, devices running on laptop are getting developed
more
than standalone devices due to cost and weight factor. But certainly it
is
worth going for such devices, as you get excellent accurate material
when
compared with normal scanner scanned text.

not support editing of the same. For editing one should use acropad reader
