i also recommend not to use this product. instead, use defenks anti-virus security suite, or kaspersky mobile security. you can download the same from ovi store. On 11/29/11, K. Re: [AI] Socializing
Verry well said and correct statement. We should defanetly take a step forwed and my experience is mif we go forwed one step they will also come forwed one step atleast. -original message- Subject: Re: [AI] Socializing From: Amit Bhatt Date: 28.11.2011 16:29 As per my personal observation and experience, the nature of socializing depends on persons to person, circle to circle and of course, circumstances too. Some of us have rightly said here, we people, the Visually Impaired folks also need to be opened and actively involved with our friends and associates in the social events or general network. It is not wise to expect every time from our sighted people that they would come to us and ask to join them just because we cannot see. The other folks also may have the similar state of mind and expectations from us that we should get in touch with them. Yes, why I have said that socializing also depends on circumstance, because it is equally true that your sighted friend would not call you on every occasion to enjoy the things in the life. I would give you some real examples: I did all my studies from Mainstream School and I was actively involved in all School activities. And like many of us said, my friends and teachers used to be very close to me specially in the time of School competitions and studies, however, they used to get the company of other sighted friends while going to watch movie and all in general. In my office these days, my sighted friends even do not like to have their lunch without calling me. If I am busy in some work or not available at my workstation, they try to search me by calling me through phone or coming to my table. Some of my friends do not like to go for shopping without me since they feel that I have some good experience in purchase in the market. Specially they do not want to miss me while going out for buying perfumes, other beauty products and Mobile phone. Again, if I am not available, they call me up and seek my suggestion. So, it also depends on our preferences and choices, where, why and when we want to get involve with someone. One of my friends always invite me at his home to stay and enjoy for the day. He also comes to me and spend some moments with me. Despite all these experiences, I would also endorse the views of those members who think that some of our sighted friends hesitate to get accompany with us due to some wrong conceptions residual in their mind. This is true, specially in case of some of the sighted female friends. We should always endeavor to eliminate the misapprehensions from their mind by our active efforts, but if they still do not change their mentality, we have many more to join their company. The World is very big, if one doesn’t join your hand, there are many others who would need your companionship. We can just try to make the people mind positive but we cannot guarantee to change their frame of mind completely, because we just have our efforts in our hand, one cannot control the thought and attitude of others. We hope that the concerned Organizations like NAB India would request IBPS to place the revised order (Policy) in their Website and advertisement to be published in the future. I've come to know that IBPS is going to conduct next exam in March April 2012 and we expect all the documentation to be completed before the next examination. Re: [AI] Socialising
One issue why your friends are not inviting you for films and other activities may be due to the fact that they may not realize your ability to enjoy such things and that's where your responsibility lies in showing them how you enjoy those things despite your visual impairment. Re: [AI] Socialising
Dear Rahul, I agree with the points made by Kanchan Madam in her trailing mail below regarding mobility. I am a late-blind individual & lost all sight when I was 22 years old. Prior to losing sight, I had a good-sized circle of friends but most of them started to avoid me after I lost my sight. Initially, I used to move around with a sighted guide & faced being left out from social gatherings like going to movies, parties etc. But since I have started moving around independently to a certain extent, many of my friends who had left when I lost my sight have returned. During talks with them, the most common thing for the break in friendship that I find is the presence of the sighted guide. Most of my friends used to consider him an outsider in the group & I was also marginalised as a result. So, I feel that you should also learn to move around without a sighted guide & trust your friends to help you move around. I would love to be friends with everyone in this group :) Even I happen to be very good in studies, so there are many people who contact me when they have doubts/difficulties related to studies. My problem is not that I don't have friends. In fact, whenever I go for a class, I mostly have someone to talk to, and I usually have a lot of fun with my friends. The only problem is that my friends don't call me when they go to other public places. Ajay, I really appreciate your views, and I somewhat agree with you. However, I have always believed that I will make myself more dependent on others if I don't have a sighted guide with me. I believe that my friends think that, If I go somewhere only with my friends, and if something goes wrong, then they will be the ones who will be answerable. However, if I have a sighted guide with me, then they won't have to make any extra adjustments for me. Most of these plans are made after the class gets over. So, it could also be that I usually don't end up being a part of these plans merely because I mostly have to leave immediately after the class gets over, because I have to go with a sighted guide and a driver. Re: [AI] Socialising
Hi Rahul, I've read all your mails. I feel another problem with your sighted guide is that he might be affecting the privacy of your friends group. Your friends may have him at the back of their minds while planning their trip with you. coming to my experience, I am also a late blind with little vision still left. Though I was not good at academics, I was a very mischievous child which made me very popular in the school, with my vision condition adding to my uniqueness. My friends always took me everywhere they went, films, hotels, late night parties, etc. I don't have mobility. So, they always gave me a call to check whether I needed any assistance. I even went to an expedition into a forest with my friends a few years ago. I still remember one of my friends stand in a pool and place his hand adjacent to a rock to enable me to cross the pool by stepping on his palm for support. I know we can't generalise things. But try to make them feel that your presence will make their time more joyous. I'm blessed with such nature and hence always had great company throughout my life so far. [AI] quick Intro
I have been lurking on this list for a week or two. I came upon a subscription link for this list during a google search. I have seen a few familiar names on here but I am new and want to introduce myself for those whose paths I have not crossed. My name is Doris and my husband Chris and I live in Germany. chris is fully sighted but I lost my sight in 1998 and am totally blind except for some light perception in my right eye. I use jaws for windows and nvda on an xp pro sp3 system. I am the resident computer nerd and internet junkie around the house. I enjoy tekkie stuff and every once in a while get myself in trouble playing. I enjoy the computer, online communication and making international friends. I also enjoy language - English is my second but beloved adopted one - and I also enjoy reading on a variety of subjects and any accessible format that comes my way. I joined this list as much out of technical as cultural interst and just to have a non-American blindness related forum for a change. I look forward to listening and learning and hopefully being able to contribute every once in a while. Re: [AI] Socialising
Rahul, I have just read your mail and haven't read the trailing mails. The problem is very clear. You will have to learn mobility and get rid of your sighted assistant if you really want to go out wit friends. I am notasking you to get rid of the driver. The driver will be an asset. The faster you get more independent the better chance you have of making friends and moving from acquaintances to friends. Please understand that once you start trying to move independently others around you will give you a hand. Its a bit of play acting and a bit of preplanning. Call me on any Sunday morning and we can chat. For those who are late blind and feel that their friends are cutting them off I can only tell yu how I managed to retain my friends. 1 Initially you may have to be the one who plans an outing. 2. Never show your friends that you are depending upon them for reaching a place. Try to reach the meeting point on your own. Use others like cabbies, security guards, ushers and waiters. Re: [AI] Relaxation of scribe norms for IBPS exam
Hello Friends, So just want to confirm, along with the scribe form and other documents, can we just carry a print out of the letter which was posted here fiew days back? As what was mentioned by IBPS, were the athorities at various test centers aware about this change in the guidelines? I request those who have given their exams to share their experiences, so that it will help those of us who will be appearing for the exam on 4th and 11th of December respectively. Hi all, First of all, I would like to thank you all for your wonderful and informative responses. I would love to be friends with everyone in this group :) Even I happen to be very good in studies, so there are many people who contact me when they have doubts/difficulties related to studies. Well it will work for windows 7 also. Further more, when the PC restarts with the CD inserted, you get the press any key message and doing so will automatically make you boot from the CD.
Rahul, You've already received some excellent tips from others on this list. The main thing I can surmise from these and my own experience with other sighted people is that you need to be comfortable in your own skin to ensure others see you exactly the same way, confident and ready to take the world on. At 17, all your friends have plenty on their own to prove to the world and thus will have little time to spare you if you don't make your presence felt. As Ajay has rightly mentioned, your sighted guide is perhaps a deterent. They need to feel like you want to be one of them and let them do all your guide perhaps does for you. You are not invisible, they need to see that. I still have trouble with people wanting to speak to my companion rather than me, simply because they know no better and I'm forced to remind them I'm only blind and can use all other faculties just fine and don't bite either. Give yourself the time and space to know that you indeed are a part of who all of them are and slowly, but surely things will get better. There are bigger things in life that will take precedence over this huge worry in some time. All the best. Like I've mentioned in my earlier posts, I'm 17 and am currently in 12th grade. I have quite a few sighted friends, but I've noticed that they hardly ever call me when they go for movies, have birthday parties or have get-togethers. I feel that my visual impairment is a major reason for this. We have appointed a sighted guide who goes with me everywhere. So, I often get depressed and frustrated when my friends don't call me. In fact, for me, this is the biggest challenge that I currently have to face due to my visual impairment. I can't even ask my friends if they don't call me because of my visual problem, because none of them will ever admit it. So, has anyone here faced this problem? The matches will be in the 20-20 format. The Objectives of the tournament are: 1. To create an annual event that is a fun platform for the blind kids of Delhi 2. To establish a rapport between Eyeway (single stop knowledge resource on life with blindness) and the blind kids 3. To promote Eyeway, the knowledge resource 4. Use the event to spread the message of ability/talent/potential to the people of Delhi 5. To celebrate "World Disability Day" ( 3rd December) A brief about Eyeway: Eyeway was launched in 2003 by Score Foundation as a single stop knowledge resource on life with blindness, with the object of using Information not only Inform but also to Inspire and Empower. We believe that the real problem is the not the "blindness" but the "Mindset". Eyeway endeavours to change this mindset. The Govt. policies/programmes, NGOs by and large look at blind people as lesser beings and as people who need to be looked after. We believe that they need to be invested in and seen as potential resource for the country. Today Eyeway Comprises: 1. the website www.eyeway.org 2. the weekly radio programme "eyeway, yea hai roshni ka karwan" broadcast from 30 cities of India/also in Oriya 3. the eyeway helpdesk which receives calls from across India 4. the eyeway sms alerts: over 2500 subscribers 5. the eyeway awareness workshops: in different parts of India 6. the Eyeway advocacy initiatives 7. Eyeway blind cricket challenger(just launched) Score Foundation was established in May, 2002 as an NGO working with the blind and visually impaired persons in India. In 2003, the Foundation launched Eyeway as a single stop Knowledge Resource on "Life with Blindness". It is believed at Score Foundation that the real problem is not with the blindness, it is with the mindset. Eyeway endeavours to change this mindset to help the blind person to find his or her space in the community and the National economy. The mission at Score Foundation is to "Help realize personal independence, economic self reliance and social inclusion of every blind and visually impaired person in India. We believe that every blind person in the country has potential and should be viewed as a resource and hence should be invested in. They should not be looked upon as a liability and merely provided for. The event is being covered live on our website www.eyeway.org/cricket Highlights can also be seen on DD sports. wow - that's an interesting point. One may not necessarily be good at academics in order to make friends in school/college. What matters is one's attitude, behavior, lingual skills, body language, and an overall feeling of being equal to, not lesser or greater than, friends - sighted or challenged. [AI] After Buzz, Google to discontinue seven more products
Source: http://www.thehindu.com/sci-tech/internet/article2668017.ece New York, November 28, 2011 After Buzz, Google to discontinue seven more products PTI Internet search titan Google plans to discontinue seven more products, including ‘Wave’, in a bid to simplify its services further. File photo Internet search titan Google plans to discontinue seven more products, including ‘Wave’, in a bid to simplify its services further after bringing down the curtains on its ‘Buzz’ social networking, microblogging and messaging tool. The off-season “spring cleaning” would mark the end of various Google services such as Wave, Knol, Gears, Bookmarks Lists, Friend Connect and Search Timeline, Google Senior Vice-President (Operations) Urs Holzle said in a blogpost. In addition, Google said it will also shelve its ’renewable energy-cheaper-than-coal initiative, which was touted as an effort to drive down the cost of renewable energy. This is the third time that Google has announced a whittling down of its products slate after they failed to generate interest among users. Google said some of the services will stop working from next month and by next year, most of the products will be shut down completely. “To recap, we’re in the process of shutting a number of products which haven’t had the impact we’d hoped for, integrating others as features into our broader product efforts and ending several which have shown us a different path forward. Overall, our aim is to build a simpler, more intuitive, truly beautiful Google user experience,” Holzle added. The US-based firm said Google Wave -- which was an attempt to combine email and instant messaging for real-time collaboration -- will turn off completely from April 30, 2012. In addition, Google Friends Connect service -- which allowed webmasters to add social features to their sites by embedding a snippet of code -- would be retired from March 1, 2012. Google Gears, which maintains web browser functionality when working offline, will stop working from December 1 and Google Bookmarks List, a service which allowed users to share bookmarks with friends, will end on December 19. Last month, Google announced that it will shut down its social networking product Google Buzz. In September, Google said it will close as many as 10 products, including Aardvark and Fast Flip, as it streamlines operations and focuses on areas that have “higher impact”. Re: [AI] Socialising
Everyone, unlike me, seems to be excellent at studies! First time I failed in the half yearly exams of class 6th. I became really naughty. Save a few teachers, everyone had thrashed me at La Martiniere Boys. I was promoted with warning in 7th where again I failed in the half yearly exams. My chair used to be apart from the entire class. But my fun was appreciated and thankfully I was never short of friends. You need to enjoy yourself and make the people laugh around to make friends! Re: [AI] Socializing
Dear Friend's, For me all friends are the same. They interact with me and we have gatherings and we have a lot of fun. For them I am an inspirator. If you take the case of the female friends they would like to know what a person like me can do in this world. For their mind to be positive they consider me as a normal sighted person because of my smile and interaction. So for me even if I don't tell them they are ready to take me where ever they are gathering if I am interested to go with them.
