[AI] MicroSystem acupuncture, does it really help in eye diseases?

2011-12-19 Thread Amit Bhatt
Dear all,

Please read the below discription and share the experiences if anyone has gone
through this eye treatment:

MicroSystem acupuncture is the unique synergy of three different treatment
modalities for treatment of vision loss due to a large number of eye disorders.
In MicroSystem treatment, acupuncture, colour therapy and acupressure are
combined to give optimum and often dramatic results.

In MicroSystem acupuncture, the acupuncture points are not part of any
conventional acupuncture. Special ultra fine single use disposable colour
radiated needles are used. In this procedure needles are placed in the hands
and feet only. No needles are placed anywhere near the eyes. Even young
children accept the needles comfortably. The focus of treatment is directed to
the area of the eyes, optic nerve and brain. There is evidence that this form
of acupuncture actually helps to rebuild the tissue in the eyes, helping to
restore the integrity of the retina.

Along with the acupuncture treatment, each patient is taught self acupressure.
This acupressure regime helps to further enhance the vision improvement
achieved by acupuncture and helps stabilize the underlying disease. Regular
self acupressure by the patient also helps to preserve the vision improvement
gained through the MicroSystem acupuncture treatment.

MicroSystem acupuncture treatment is completely safe and has no side effects

Vision related disorders treated by MicroSystem acupuncture include: Retinitis
Pigmentosa, Macular Degeneration, Stargardt's macular dystrophy, Glaucoma,
Diabetic Retinopathy, Retinal Detachment, Presbyopia, Keratoconus and many
other retinal dystrophies such as Leber's Congenital Amaurosis, Rod and Cone
Dystrophy and Ushers Syndrome.

RESULTS

After undergoing MicroSystem acupuncture treatment, patients show improvement
in near and distant vision, visual field, night vision and colour vision. The
typical treatment is for 8 days, but vision improvement is seen within 1 or 2
days. Clinical experience is that over 90% of patients treated show an
improvement in their vision. In the remaining 10% the vision loss due to
disease may be halted or stabilised, which in itself is a significant
achievement.

Over 1,000 patients from India, UK, Canada, Australia, South Africa, Nigeria,
Kenya, Cyprus, UAE, Lebanon, Iraq, Syria, Pakistan, Malaysia, Bangladesh,
Nepal, Thailand, Bahamas, Greece, Indonesia and Zimbabwe have benefited from
this treatment.

[AI] This youth with disability won a medal with his chin up

A hurdle: Finance is a major problem for B. Samiullah, who wants to
prepare for the international championship in body lifting scheduled
to be held in Australia in 2012.

B. Samiullah, a 28-year-old physically challenged weightlifter, has
become the first person from Karnataka to have won a medal in the
National Body Lifting Championship in Karnal district of Haryana. Mr.
Samiullah secured bronze medal in the “handicapped” category.

“The body lifting competition was held for normal persons and for
those with disabilities. About 100 normal persons and five persons
with disabilities participated, of them I was the only person
representing Karnataka,” he said proudly showing the certificate and
trophy he received.

Mr. Samiullah said body lifting is a sport where the participants are
supposed to lift their body with the support of their arms and touch
their chin to the bar. “This method is normally called as chin up. The
winner is selected based on the number of times he/she touches the
chin to the bar,” he said.

Paralysed

Mr. Samiullah's body below the waist is completely paralysed due to
polio. He literally crawls and uses a tricycle to move around.

Interestingly, despite being a person with disabilities, he competed
with normal athletes to get selected for the national event as he was
the only disabled person among all. “The selection was held in
Davangere where 25 participants had come from various districts of the
State. During the test, many could not lift their body for more than
30 times, but I made 50 chin ups,” he said.

Mr. Samiullah has so far won three gold medals and numerous other
medals in weight lifting competitions.

With his spirits high, Mr. Samiullah wants to prepare for the
international championship scheduled to be held in Australia in 2012.
But the major problem before him is finances. Though he runs a juice
centre, he says the earning is not enough to meet the expenses for
participating in the event. “So far, I have been spending from my
pocket, but it is hard to continue in the same way without any
financial assistance,” he added.

[AI] Maharashtra omnibus petition-a good order on scribes

CORAM : MOHIT S. SHAH, C.J. AND
MRS. ROSHAN DALVI, J.
Date : 8 DECEMBER 2011.
P.C.
Ms. Kanchan Pamnani, learned Counsel for the NGO invites our
attention to the guidelines issued by the MHADA for orthopeadically
challenged and visually impaired candidates using scribe in respect of the
examination for the posts of Junior Clerk-cum-typist and submits that the
following guidelines and clauses (ii)(b) in the declaration required to be given
by the candidates and the scribe are contrary to the directions given by this
Court in the order dated 29 April 2011 in Writ Petition No.3294/2010 and
connected matters:
2
PIL.75.2006(903).sxw
"(ii)(b) He/She has secured lesser marks than the candidate
and not more than 60% marks in the last examination passed in
his/her own academic stream (certificate enclosed)."
2.
In the aforesaid order we had in paragraph 17 of our order dated 29 April 2011
whereby held as under:
"17. The instructions in the circular that writer should be one
grade lower than the student from disability would mean that his
scribe should be one year in the lower grade i.e. lower class for
instance T.Y.B.Com. student suffering from disability will be
allowed to engage writer who is in S.Y.B.Com.
3.
In our order dated 25 July 2011 in Writ Petition No.616/2001 this Court
referred to the direction/guidelines to the effect that the scribe who has
secured
less marks than the candidates and not more than 60% marks passed in the last
examination was inconsistent with the instructions issued by the office of
the Chief Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities of the Government of India
in so far as it requires that a scribe should possess lesser marks than
the candidate and not more than 60% marks in his own academic stream.
Accordingly MHADA shall revise the guidelines for the orthopeadically challenged
and visually impaired candidates using scribe on the declaration to be given by
the candidates and scribe so as to be consistent with the above orders
of this Court.
4.
Our attention is also invited to the following sentence in declaration at the
end of paragraph 4: "In such circumstances, both
3
PIL.75.2006(903).sxw
signatories will be liable to criminal prosecution".
5.
Guidelines of an authority cannot define an offence. What would constitute an
offence would have to be laid down by statutory provisions such as those be
found in the Indian Penal Code. After an act or omission reason under any such
statute, cannot become an offence by virtue of any circular or guidelines
issued by the MHADA. Similarly if an act or omission is an offence in a statute
it would not be necessary for the authorities to take a declaration to
prosecute such scribes. The scribes otherwise also render voluntary service to
the candidates suffering from as aforesaid visually impairment. Such express
declaration required to be made by them would deter them from rendering their
services.
6.
Hence the last sentence in paragraph 4 of the declaration shall be deleted.
7.
The General Administration Department of the State Government as well as the
Education department of the State Government shall issue clarificatory circulars
to all the departments/education institutions.
8.
The learned AGP states that the report of the Chief Secretary shall be
submitted to the Court on 25 January 2012. The copy of the same shall be
supplied
to the learned Counsel for the Petitioners one week prior to the submission in
the Court.

[AI] Fwd: [Accessible Devices] Press Release: GW Micro Launches GWSkype

2011-12-19 Thread soloman s

From: Accessible Devices
Date: Mon, 19 Dec 2011 14:16:59 -0600
Subject: [Accessible Devices] Press Release: GW Micro Launches GWSkype
To: Accessible Devices

This is all we currently know about this.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
GW Micro Launches GWSkype
Fort Wayne, Indiana (December 19, 2011) - GW Micro, Inc.
(www.gwmicro.com) announced
a major innovation today for the blind and visually impaired
community. GW Micro,
developers of Window-Eyes, the most powerful screen reader available,
have developed
GWSkype - a Window-Eyes app that makes Skype accessible to all blind
and visually
impaired people who use a Windows computer.
Skype is a peer-to-peer service that allows users to call and message others via
the Internet. Skype users may also call other landlines for a fee. While Skype
has been around for years, its constantly changing user interface has
been extremely
difficult for blind and visually impaired users. "Each time the user
interface changes,
we have to completely write new a new Window-Eyes app to account for
the changes,"
said Dan Weirich, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for GW Micro.
"These constant
changes make it difficult or impossible for blind and visually
impaired consumers
to continue using the Skype service."
The new GWSkype app will always make the Skype service available to
blind and visually
impaired computer users regardless of new versions of Skype that are
released. The
GWSkype app is a Window-Eyes app and demonstrates the power of
Window-Eyes apps unmatched
by any of its competitors. As Christmas is approaching, GW Micro is
releasing the
GWSkype app to all blind and visually impaired users who are running
Windows at no
cost. So, even a consumer not running Window-Eyes can still download
and use the
GWSkype app.
"We believe that this is a special time of year and we want to give
back," said Weirich.
"GWSkype is a special gift from GW Micro to all blind and visually
impaired users
of Windows".
The GWSkype app can be downloaded at
http://www.gwmicro.com/apps/gwskype. You can
download the GWSkype live webinar and product demonstration at
www.gwmicro.com/podcast.
GW Micro has been a trusted pioneer in the adaptive technology
industry since 1990,
and continues to lead with innovative, customer driven solutions.

why do we tend to become so judgmental always? let's hope that Mohit

Dear all,

the issue that Mohit has raised is far more important than debating
over usage of language. so let's come up with some valuable suggestion
for the friend of Mohit who, according to me, should honour the

dilute the point of discussion. i hope it hasn't hurt anybody's

2011-12-19 Thread Sheik mohammedali
dear all, each person is different and we do have unique character. kindly
don't take it personally if it hurts you. indeed, we should think logically
and the statement should be scientific. now a days, valuable things are
losing their meanings due to their abusing. for instance, how does some one
say "love is blind" with experience? logically love does not become blind
but, it makes us blind depending upon the hope/trust between 2 individuals
that's it. dating is also A form of regular romantic courtship between two
individuals but, due to infatuation/attraction it has also lost its meaning.
in fact, such activities are being practiced due to impact of modernisation

matters.
So, it would be good if we can discuss it from that angle.
I have observed that the fact that we are not hundred percent
independent in our outings, and the girl has naturally to assist us,
affects social outlook.
For ex. firstly, the girl herself may come to feel it something

other

than or less than a date, and so, the quality of relationship

matters.

Another challenge is to make intentions clear, as more often than

not,

eyes are the primary medium for expressing romantic intent.

Sahir has said:
Kaun kahta hai, muhhabat ki Zuban hoti hai,
Ye hakikat to nigahon se bayan hoti hai..
However, we have to change this and I have replied to him in a

prolonged

poem which begins like:

Ham ye kahte hain muhhabat ki zuban hoti hai.
Ye hakikat kyaa nigahon se bayaan hoti hai???

I'm also friends with her.
I really want to ask her out.
However, I am reluctant to do so,because I think that she might

Has anyone here faced a similar problem?

Hi all,
Congratulations! ! You have proved that When there is a collaborated
work, the success is bound to attain.
I had floated a questionnaire on accessible reading material for
visually challenged a few months ago. Many of you had participated by
filling up the questionnaire and had expressed your
requirements/suggestions.

I would like to congratulate all of you as Pearson Education, the
world’s largest publisher has approved the project.
All print disabled students including visually challenged can request
for the accessible book of the Pearson titles.
No additional price would be charged for the facility. The service is
launched for the students in India to start with. It will be extended
to non students subsequently based upon the requests and queries they
receive from non students.

Friends, most companies feel that there is very less demand for such
products as they get very few requests. It is very important for you
to send requests and queries to companies that can solve your problem.
Do not forget to appreciate those who are willing to work on your
problems/queries.

You may send in your requests, queries, suggestions and appreciations
to below given contacts
Amarjyoti Dutta: amarjyoti.du...@pearson.com
Phone: 0120-4190318
Preeta Priyamvada Pandey: preeta.priyamv...@pearson.com

I don't think that there is that much of difference in price only due to
windows. there may be other difference in terms of hardware. even if the

even there may be difference of equipment manufacturers. carefully check all

Hai!
Salman, I have a very good suggestion for you at this time.
In your first mail u wrote that there is a difference of 7,000 Rupees
between a model preloaded win 7 professional and with out win 7.
Thats fine either of these you perchase, but one thing came to my mind
that you are going to pay 7 thousand rupees for a window for which you
are going to have nontranspherable license, I mean to say that
preloaded windows can not be transphered to another system in future
in case you need to change the machine, one thing and you will have
only one version that 32 bit. Secondly if you perchase retale version
of windows 7 professional then you will have two benifits:
1. you will get two CD, one of 32 bit and another 64 bit.
2. This licence will be transpherable since you will having CD for the
same.

The benifit of the retale version is that you can any time transpher
the licence to any machine in future.
The price of win 7 professional is 10,000 rupees and for windows 7
ultimate is 11,000.
Calculatively you have to pay 4 thousands rupees extra in comparison
to preloaded windows and you will get:
1. both verson of windows 7, viz. 32, and 64 bit in professional and
ultimate both.
2. You will be able to transpher the lisance any time.

In my view its not a wise idea to perchase laptop with preloaded
windows 7. Go for a dos machine and then take any decision.
Even I did not hear any one using H.P Probook working, but H.P claims
that their system are not prone to technical malfunctioning.
Lenovo thinkpad is known for its robust and rugged use, I can only
give u advice against that at this time untill I have any one using
probook.

Salman, that is a different story. I dint purchase that laptop. it was given
to me by some donar for my studies during my PG course. before coming to my
hands, it already had worked for 3 years. it is a 2005 product. i dint get a
bag with it hence i carried it in my regular bag along with my books. many a
times i kept my heavy books on it. moreover, accidentally once it fell from
the top of a table to the floor and got its joint broken. then after, i am
having severe problems with it. now i have to get it repaired and return it
back to its original owner. despite all this, i have got good service from

Umesha sir as u discussed that u used for three years thinkpad of T
searies. as I know that T searies is more expensive and durable in
comparison to edge searies, what happened to your that t searies
thinkpad that it could run only for 3 years?
Even a consumer searies laptop may work easely for 3 or four years!
what is the benifit of using thinkpad in this situation.

such

matters.
So, it would be good if we can discuss it from that angle.
I have observed that the fact that we are not hundred percent
independent in our outings, and the girl has naturally to assist us,
affects social outlook.
For ex. firstly, the girl herself may come to feel it something

matters.

Another challenge is to make intentions clear, as more often than

However, we have to change this and I have replied to him in a

Ham ye kahte hain muhhabat ki zuban hoti hai.
Ye hakikat kyaa nigahon se bayaan hoti hai???

Hi,

But I know how much Vishal had to struggle to get respondents for his
research. Access India has a membership of more than 2000. But it
was disappointing to see
the number of people who have come forward to fill up the
questionnaire, that took hardly a few minutes to complete. We take
every opportunity to blast the government, a bank, railways, or some
other organisation when they discriminate against disability. But it
was disheartening to see the participation rate for the research which
eventually brought a positive change in our lives. I take this
opportunity to urge all to be active in activities that relate to us.

Having said this, I would like to clarify that all the above are my
personal thoughts and not opinions of Vishal jain. So, if there is
anything that offended anyone in my post, I take the sole

Absolutely Umeshaji,

Couldn't agree more with you and even to the language used.

This case nothing different to me than the case of that stupid
politician who wants ticket to contest election sighting liability of
his blind child.

Mohit,
your friend should look for a job and rest all things would fall in
place; mobility, independence, parents confidence in him, and world's
of good in future as nobody keeps you on a job and pay because your

If your successful in a profession, personal life can become easily
manageable.

Good luck

Hi all,

I have a very good friend who is partially blind.
So, he is facing a very big problem.
I asked him to ask about his problem in this group, but he doesn't
want to insult himself or his family by doing that.
He is 20 years old.
He is currently pursuing his LLB degree in Pune.

So, his maternal grandparents are very rich.
They have a very big house which is worth crores of rupees.
So, his dad says that the house should be divided equally between his
mother and her brother after the deaths of his maternal grandparents.
His dad says that his mother should get a part of the house so that
she will then have the resources to help him (my friend) if he fails
to do something substantial in his life.
His dad also works very hard to collect more and more resources just
to make sure that my friend doesn't have to face a lot of problems in
his future.

So, my friend is mostly upset because his parents keep arguing about
this matter all the time.
He says that his dad also uses abusive language while arguing with his
mother.
His dad tries to prevent him (my friend) and his mother from meeting
his grandparents, because his dad feels that his grandparents don't
care about his future.

His maternal grandparents say that they can't divide that particular
house because their son (my friend's maternal uncle) stays in that
house.
They are, however, willing to give another house to my mother which is
not as expensive as the house that my dad wants.

My friend says that both his grandparents and his father are really nice
people.
He says that his father is worried about his future because of his
visual impairment.
And his father believes that his mother should also help in building a
better future for my friend.
My friend is a very capable guy.
He always comes first in exams.
So, I'm sure that he will not require anybody's assistance for
building his career.

He is always upset because of the fights between his parents.
He feels that he is the main reason for all their fights.
He wants to show his father that he is not so worthless that he will
require the assistance of his maternal grandparents.
So, what can my friend do?

My friend will be reading all your posts, so please do share your
suggestions and views.

Re: [AI] Procedure of converting books from PDF to word format.

2011-12-19 Thread Vamshi. G
PDF files are of 2 types, text files and image files. Text files can
be converted into word format with the "save as text" option in the
file menu. You need to resort to OCR software like fine reader or
kurzweil for converting image files into word format. Do contact me
for any guidance in this regard.

Hello all,

Is anyone using Lekha on a Windows7 64-bit machine? Where can I obtain the
software from? I am aware it comes bundled with Jaws. I have a Jaws 13
license purchased in the UK, and Lekha was not provided with it. Can I
obtain it from my vendor, or would I have to purchase it separately?

Many thanks.

Re: [AI] Which will win? vostro or lenovo thinkpad?

2011-12-19 Thread Shona Man
2. This licence will be transpherable since you will having CD for the same.

Lenovo thinkpad is known for its robust and rugged use, I can only
give u advice against that at this time untill I have any one using
probook.
