Re: [AI] please resolve the issue in my Nokia N79
Also, check if the selection is SIM Message Center in the field Message Center In Use. This field can be located through the following path: 1. Open Messaging application on your phone. The default key for the same on N79 is Keey1. 2. Press Key1 for options and then select Settings from Options. 3. Select Text Message. 4. Move down to the field named Message Center In Use. Select to check available options. The default on my phone is SIM Message Center (I have not changed the selection anytime). You can edit a message center from the Message Centers option. I have two message centers on my phone - SIM Message Center and SMS Center. I'm using a Vodafone connection and the following numbers appear for these message centers: SIM Message Center = +919820205446 SMS Center = +919820005444 You can check these values for your operator by calling their helpline as mentioned in the earlier email on the subject. If these values are correct then one more troubleshooting option that I think is Preferred Connection for Text Message. This should be GSM/UMTS and not Packet Data. Preferred Connection can be found in the settings for Text Message by following the above path. Re: [AI] [program-l] accessibility of visual studio
I second Manish's point except that the output window is sometimes not read correctly in VS 2010 - you need to select all content and copy it to some editor like Notepad to read it. This typically happens when a solution containing too many projects is built. Some options that I find better in VS 2010 as compared to VS 2008 include: 1. it speaks when a build completes. 2. It automatically reads the current line of code while debugging. 3. It indicates when you end a debugging session by pressing SHIFT+F5. 4. It reads autolists well. The above list is not exhaustive but some features I can remember at present. Also I have not installed additional scripts for any version of Visual Studio. In fact, JAWS provides schemes specially created for Visual Studio which you may want to explore. Press ALT+INSERT+S to open scheme selection dialog box of JAWS and choose from Visual Studio .Net, Visual Studio .Net (Colors) and Visual Studio .Net (Indent). In short, Visual Studio is accessible (though it has room for improvement) with JAWS and ASP .Net is great. Wish you ALL THE BEST. Re: [AI] Feasibility of guide dogs in India
Hi Mohit, Whether people look at our white canes with awe and respect or not should not be the criterion when deciding to use a white cane. Those of us who choose to use it do so because it helps us get from point A to point B. Whether others find it attractive or not is immaterial. As for the feasibility of using guide dogs in India, this has been discussed on the list several times in the past. In addition to the condition of Indian roads, the traffic and the general chaos on roads combined with the presence of stray dogs make it impossible for guide dogs to survive. So, with that being said, the only major issue, I believe, is that people feel that Indians, in general, hate and are scared of dogs, so the experiment wouldn't work. Now, my point is this: How many people have you seen who look at the white cane with awe and respect? I, for one, haven't come across many such people. I believe that we can and must work towards promoting the use of guide dogs in India. I saw a blind man who was giving his guide dog instructions like, 'Find the stairs' or 'Find an empty chair' or 'Find this XYZ person' and the dog was able to do those things perfectly. Now, I don't think you can really do such things with a cane, even though I have full respect for those who use the cane -- me being one amongst them. Re: [AI] Advocates: procedure of providing PH reservation
Please send your concerns to me also. I am very much interested in looking out the issues related to PWDs. On 4/27/12, Asudani, Rajesh rajeshasud...@rbi.org.in wrote: Dear Shona You have answered your own question correctly, however, your interpretation of the facts seems to be a little in the need of clarifying. I am quoting you: Say for e.g. I was selected in PH and I belongs to general then I will be placed in general catagory and the person who is at the rank No. 50 in genral list will have to be replaced by me, simelerly other PH who was selected belongs to OBC then he will be adjusted in OBC catagory, it mean the person who is at serial no. 27 in OBC will be replaced by this PH and so on. Then my question is that by this way only 49 general and 26,OBC applicant were recruited, it mean they suffered out of physically handicapped reservation. Now, in this example it is not correct to say that by following the above procedure of adjusting PWD in their vertical categories, only 49 general and 26 OBC candidates are selected, and so they suffer due to reservation for PWD. You would appreciate that the general PWD person belongs to PWD category as well as general category, and so does OBC candidate to both the categories. So, 50 general and 27 OBC candidates are selected in effect, but only the 50th general and 27th OBC candidate is PWD, because there is horizontal reservation for them. I must however, say that there are a host of other complications arising out of horizontality of reservation for PWD, and we must ponder over them seriously. One instance currently haunting us is not fixing separate cut off for PWD by banks recruiting through IBPS. I am afraid even the draft law has eschewed any solution of those quanderies. I will forward you my separate note on reservation and my recommendations to MSJE shortly. -Original Message- From: accessindia-boun...@accessindia.org.in [mailto:accessindia-boun...@accessindia.org.in] On Behalf Of Shona Man Sent: Thursday, April 26, 2012 5:54 PM To: accessindia Subject: [AI] Advocates: procedure of providing PH reservation Hi learned legal luminaries, please tell me that what is the procedure of providing reservation for physically handicapped in any public employment? My question is related to the procedure of reservation, suppose in a recruitment there are 100 seats. 50 for general, 27, OBC, 15 SC, and 8 for ST. Now 50 seats are already reserved by OBC, SC and ST. If we add into it 3% PH reservation then it will be 53% reservation, yes I do agree that this 3% reservation for physically handicapped is horizontle reservation therefore no problem of acceding 50%. But being it as horizontle every handicapped person will be placed into his/her main catagory by making necessary arrangements. Say for e.g. Is it so? Why PH reservation is not verticle so that they could be selected with out replacing any other candidate. Suppose all 3 PH candidates belongs to OBC catagory then only 24 OBC candidate can be recruited! Please clarify the procedure for actual recruitment of PH persons. Also clarify that this limitation of 50% willbe applicable in case the vacancies are carried forward to next year? Re: [AI] Feasibility of guide dogs in India
You are very much right as far as the utility of a guide dog for a person with visual impairment is concerned. But, the problem in India is not that of bad roads or built in structure. The problem here is that of stray dogs and street dogs. This is the biggest problem. In US or for that metter any where in the world where dogs are used as their guide by blind persons, to the best of my knowledge, there is no stray dog roaming around in the streets and those who keep pet dogs they also keep them with in their house and whenever they take them out most of them keep them chained, although there are some senseless people who take their dogs out without chain. Under these circumstances Keeping guide dogs in India is not possible. If we want to promote the use of guide dogs for persons with visual impairment in this country, then, we must do the following: Persuade the Govt of India to enact law banning uncontrolled movement of dogs in the street. Secondly, setting up of training centers to train the dogs to work as guide dogs on the lines of Forfer Guide Dog Training Center in Scotland and also the visually impaired persons in using the dogs as their guide. This is the right time of making efforts to persuade the Government as the New law for all of us is under the process of enactment and suitable provisions can be made in the act for this purpose. Re: [AI] Feasibility of guide dogs in India
I was also there in US for several years. I was amused by their accessibility and wanting everything here in our country as well. But after thinking of our selfish politicians, road structures, disability priorities, I've end up my dreams as this cannot be even imagined for my generation. for an example, As per US and in all other european countries, if a webpage is being complaint by a blind person as it is not accessible, they ban that site entirely, you know. Who cares here? Once I lodged a complaint to the cops against the share autos (putt putt) which is constantly occupying the bus stops and me like blind persons are facing difficulties in catching the required busses. For which the inspector said, you better hire a cab or something to reach your destiny.
