Dear all, Nice thread of discussion. Well, being a late blind and now totally blind, I am able to match colours of my kurties and jeans. Yes, its true once I have to ask all colours which are on only one kurti, because nowadays drashes are in maltipal colours. Even while shopping also I am habitual to ask which portion is in which colour by touching all designs to my dear ones and sales man/girl. Then after visualisation of colours and designs, no problem in matching anytime ,even I am alone also at my home or during some trainings. Just for curiosity, I would like to know, how is it possible to recognize colours of dress being a born blind? Means, how he/she can know pink kurti/ti shirt is full match with blue/black jeans. Re: [AI] : Limiting membership
Hi, I have a humble suggestion, don’t know if it will go down well with you guys. If there is any person on the list, who’s confident about dealing with any particular issue, and answering questions pertaining to that particular problem, example banking, or skype, or any such small topic, then he can come forward and volunteer to provide his/ her email id and other contact details so that issues pertaining to that area get directly addressed to that person alone, thereby reducing traffic on the list. This is of course possible if people actually come forth and are willing to take up such a responsibility. The only disadvantage of such a venture would be that other people on the list will not have access to that particular problem. But in any case every one is not really interested in everything. But this then leaves us back to square 1. Where we have other smaller lists for specific issues. I was merely thinking out loud. Don’t know how fruitful it will be… Thanx, Shireen. Re: [AI] : Limiting membership
Hi Shireen, The disadvantage you rightly mentioned itself discards this suggestion. The main problem is that often we don't realise a problem unless someone else comes out with the same. For example, if someone asks for a circular pertaining to an exemption or allowance, some of us don't even know that such a thing can be claimed until someone else provides information about the same. I know most of us learn a lot from others' questions. The better solution would be to form volunteer groups for specific issues and provide frequently asked questions and answers on a web site. Members should first visit the site before posting on the group. But again, this has a few problems. First, this is a herculean task. Unless the volunteers are highly motivated, its difficult to do it. Besides, hosting a web site involves costs. Second, members, sometimes out of ignorance, sometimes out of laziness, and sometimes out of shortage of time, want to do things in the easiest manner. And that is writing an e-mail instead of searching on their own. That's the reason we see questions on the list solutions for which can be found with a simple google search. For example, phone number of NAB, Eye way, etc. No offence intended towards anyone. I also would have done it. Now-a-days, I try to search something on the google before writing to AI. Re: [AI] Modeerator: Limiting membership
Absolutely right Harish. On 4/28/13, harish har...@accessindia.org.in wrote: Friends To summarize the following suggestions were made and my response to it: 1 Modify membership to make it reference driven. Generally this was not much favored as many had joined by surfing on the web and that we should not put such restrictions. Presently we don't have any mechanism to modify the membership form, Until and unless there is some way to add new fields there is no possibility to make it happen. We shall explore for its possibility. 3 Decoupling topics. Suggestions were also made to make focused sub groups. My comments: There should be a strong need to do so and to have sufficient traffic driving it or some major developments in the echosphere warranting it. Presently, there is no other sufficient candidate qualifying it. 4 Establishing identity. There were suggestion to maintain anonymity and those who need to keep their identity concealed to respect it. My comments: Internet is essentially an anonymous media. There is no way to stop impersonation. In absence of a reliable mechanism, there is no sense to pretend otherwise. 5 Multiple and fake accounts. Suggestion to screen the existing list. My comments: We don't really have much problem of spam. Anyone found violating the list guidelines is dealt in a universal and those warranting individualized consideration is also being done.A balancing act is done considering the interests of the larger group and individual needs Some time we do get invitation mails from social sites. This happens both because of accessibility and ignorance of users to make selective selections from their contact list. We only need to live with and ignore such mails, as atleast these invitation is easy to identify in the subject line. Those who are quiet and don't bother us in any way, they can be left alone. Yes, our list is growing and our traffic does not grow in that sane proportion. Our members are well aware that they respond when they need to. Agreed, some of the members are more active when they join in, but they do get the realization when to restrain comments. Hence, let us have confidence in our members that they will maintain their maturity.
