Re: [AI] which is the best university for doing distant MBA?

2013-06-11 Thread Shadab Husain
Well, wanted to put your friend for a reassessment over pursuing MBA.
If he is aiming at sharpening his entrepreneurial and soft skills so
that he can launch his own venture, then business books can accrue him
the required basic and advance business tactics. Isaac Asimov:
"Self-education is, I firmly believe, the only kind of education there
is."

But, if acquiring theoretical knowledge, a little practical
understanding, a certificate and placement is the aim, then spend
thousands and lacks on this course. Many conventional companies will
hire a dull person with MBA and reject a person with a lot of business
smarts.

Ask your friend to rethink that he is not prompted by those
conventional companies to make a poor investment. Ask him to research
the benefits he can get without that course and go for it if merely
committing to self-education is not enough.

Delhi rape scene enacted in Puri minor blind girl caseBy Express News
Service - PURI
09th June 2013 11:25 AM
Taking a leaf out of the infamous Delhi rape case, the accused driver
in the rape and murder of the visually challenged girl of Beldal
village resorted to same barbaric method to ensure that the minor girl
meets her tragic and painful end.

Claiming to have solved the case, Puri SP Anup Kumar Sahoo said the
accused, Banamali Barik (35), of Kalika Nuapada village under
Chandanpur police limits has admitted to the crime. Barik was arrested
on Friday and the SUV allegedly used in the crime seized from his
possession.

Interrogation revealed that Barik after raping the girl tried to
strangulate her and then forced an iron rod into her private parts.
The girl bled to death.

She was studying in Class V in a Bhubaneswar-based school for
physically handicapped students and had come home during summer
vacation. The incident took place on the night of Wednesday when the
13-year-old girl was sleeping outside her house due to gruelling heat.
Her mutilated body was found from a forest near Beldal village along
the Puri-Konark Marine Drive road on Thursday.

Police said Barik used to drop tourists at a nearby hotel alongside
the Marine Drive and often stayed at his brother’s house in Beldal
which is close to the victim’s house.

Barik said on Wednesday night, he saw the girl outside her house at
around 11 pm. He then abducted her and took her to a
partially-constructed house nearby. When he failed to commit the crime
there, he took her to a forest nearby where he raped her. When the
girl shouted for help, Barik strangulated her. To ensure that she is
dead, he forced an iron rod into her private parts. Leaving the girl
in a critical condition, he fled in the SUV that he drove. Postmortem
report revealed that the iron rod damaged the girl’s genitals and
kidney and she died of profuse bleeding.

The SP said blood stained clothes of the accused and his mobile phone
were also seized and he was forwarded to court on Saturday which
remanded him in judicial custody. Sahoo added that prior to this
incident, Barik was involved in a petrol pump dacoity case and jailed
for a couple of months. He had come out on bail recently. “He was also
involved in a number of other criminal cases,” the SP added.

Meanwhile, the State Women’s Commission Chairperson Lopamudra
Buxipatra on Saturday visited the bereaved family and interacted with
the SP. She suggested financial assistance to the family.

District Magistrate NK Nayak has sanctioned Rs 10,000 from the Red
Cross funds to meet the funeral expenses of the girl.

2013-06-11 Thread Kotian, H P
Friends

Disabled or otherwise, such incidents makes the blood boil.
One point which shows up while reading this report, how is the district
magistrate sanctioning from the Red Cross funds. Is there no funds from the
state for such eventualities. Will the matter end with throwing such crumbs? Is
this all the compensation that will be dished out? Is this the measure in
terms of compensation of a disabled person?

Will these question ever chase a definite answer?

Re: [AI] Unfortunate incident Blind individual got robbed at Howrah Station

2013-06-11 Thread Vamshi. G
But I can't understand a person who is so knowledgeable, having
studied in I I M, develops such hatred towards a particular city.
Good and bad are everywhere in the world. Recently, one of our Access
Indian friends got robbed in a Mumbai local railway station which was
reported on this very list. I remember one of my friends on some
other list mentioning how he was exploited for having taken someone's
help in Chennai railway station.

Second, though irrelevant to the current context, Suresh Reddy is not
the first blind person to have studied in I I Ms. He was potrayed in
the same way when he got admission into I I M kolkata. Either the
media person reporting the story or Suresh Reddy himself should have
known about others who had been through I I Ms. But having said this,
I fully empathise with Suresh for what has happened to him. Incidents
like this really shatter the confidence of visually challenged in
independent mobility.

Hi,
It is so unfortunate to here like this kind of incedents.
If i would be the police, I would have punish them severely.
But here I have one doubt.
Now a days, CC cameras have put every where.
Some one should have monitor this situation.

Re: [AI] IIM's first graduate with blindness robbed at Howrah station

2013-06-11 Thread ratheesh kottakkal
Really sad. I have been planning to take mobility training, but this
account is raising many doubts in my mind. Who knows sometimes it
might be me in his place finding myself helpless in a strange place.
Last year when I was traveling in train, many college student started
banging on the doors of disability compartment. My co-travelers who
were also like us told me and my father not to open the doors. Seeing
that we would not open the doors, they started to use very very
abusive words. Abusive means such words I had never heard before.
It was a big station, not a single officer came for our help. After
five minutes the train started moving. That gave us some respite. But
those miscreants didn't give up. At the next station also they
continued to pour abusive words. None came to rescue us.
This incident was the first illexperience I faced since I lost my
vision. At that time I didn't know about AI or our rights. Now
suresh's experience spurred me to share mine also.
The world around us is growing self-centered, unsympathetic, indifferent...
I don't think any epithet would be enough to qualify it.
Let's do what we can to make this world a liveable one.

Hi Umesha, good day to you. It's highly ridiculous that how a person like you
who's educated and claiming to have the faculty of describing the problem to
others don't have the cognitive ability to appreciate the sense of humour
alluded to in my statement asking the readers to reveal the solution for the
Beal Conjecture first to me before publishing in a reputed mathematical
publication. No one is as silly as you are with the need to ask you to explain
the problem so as to better comprehend it. Never be too childish thinking that
others don't have the reasoning power to grasp the problem. I call your
attention to an old proverb that goes like this: empty vessels make much noise.
Don't be audacious enough to find fault with others when your ignorance is so
glaring that you're blind to your own faults. If you are a true genius in
mathematics, crack the problem and become a deserving genius for the Award of
$1 million by revealing not first to me, rather publishing the solution in afore
-mentioned mathematical publications. I hope this would lead to the common
sense that prevails in the end.
Regards.
David Richards.

Hi David,
everything is OK, why one needs to send you the solution before publishing
it? If you don't know the problem itself, how can you comprehend the
solution?
Dear friends, if you really want to know the problem, or find difficult to
understand the same on the internet, you can ask me for the description.
certainly I don't know the solution at present.

Umesha

2013-06-11 Thread Himanshu Sahu
In regard to the three reserved vacancies for VIs in RBI's Assistant
recruitment, unfortunately nobody could mark the discrimination done
in allotment of VI quota.
There are overall 525 vacancies, out of which only three seats are
reserved for VIs whereas it should have been at least five vacancies.
On Friday, I wrote to CGM and other officials of RBI recruitment
division and reminded them on Monday as well about this anomaly, but
no response!
Finally, I have referred this matter to the advocacy cell of AICB.
Lets see what will be the outcome!

Sir, what you told is absolutely right. But my friend is of the second
type. She believes in the traditional educational system. Actually
she wants to do regular MBA, but her parents do not allow her. That's
why she decided to go for distant MBA.
 Thank you,

Re: [AI] Delhi rape scene enacted in Puri minor blind girl caseBy Express News Service - PURI

2013-06-11 Thread Himanshu Sahu
On very first instance, I condemn such a heinous crime.

As pointed out, The accuse is a historysheeter but he was offered a
bail by the legal system of our country, which must be because of any
benefit of doubt or insufficient proofs while releasing from prison.
If the society is not able to eradicate such evil mentalities then law
must come ahead to cleanse these black spots.
When Political willpower, bureaucracy and policing is failed to
penetrate criminal minds and infuse fear, then the state of citizens'
security is bound to weaken.
So, here I see the collective failure of Indian Judiciary, Politics,
bureaucracy and police.

Re: [AI] Unfortunate incident Blind individual got robbed at Howrah Station

2013-06-11 Thread Himanshu Sahu
Really a disheartening incident...
But I second Vamshi's opinion. Such incidents can happen anywhere.
Friends, railway stations, bus stops and mostly crowded areas are
breeding ground for such thieves and anti-social elements and we must
be highly alert at these places.
However, I am not surprised by the attitude of railway police at the
station. They have just demonstrated for what they are known for!

Re: [AI] which is the best university for doing distant MBA?

2013-06-11 Thread harish

Hi
If given a choice, going for a regular programme is far superior and more
intense with a large amount of practical inputs.

What is required is councelling of the parents. It would definately help if
some blind person who has gone through the regular batch will talk to them.
First hand experience comes a long way to give the much needed comfort
level.

If this line of strategy does not work, then it is time to question the
basis for going for the MBA programme. If she cannot talk it out and
convince her parents, then her ability to manage difficult situations at the
work place becomes questionable. One need to blow hot, blow cold depending
on the situation.

Sir, what you told is absolutely right. But my friend is of the second
type. She believes in the traditional educational system. Actually
she wants to do regular MBA, but her parents do not allow her. That's
why she decided to go for distant MBA.

Hi Sandeep,

What platform do you plan to use? I use an iPhone and use navigon and

I used to use a Nokia where I used nokia maps and loadstone.

Dear harish sir,
I think I made a mistake. She is actually sighted and actual problem
is financial. I thought being a blind if I could help her out,
everyone would feel I can still do something and I can do what other
sighted friends of mine cannot. On AI I met many many peoples from
different walks of life, so I thought here there would be someone who
could give valuable suggestion. That's why I posted that here.
If you find this is against the rules of this list, please close

please sent it to my personal mail I.D. I am really sorry for the
mistake. I apologize profoundly.

[AI] Robbed of his childhood, he has hopes for his future

Today's Paper
BANGALORE, June 12, 2013
Robbed of his childhood, he has hopes for his future
Tanu Kulkarni
Blind runaway, who was once addicted to glue, rebuilds life with
single-mindedness

For Shivakumar Nagaiah, the Government Children’s Home for Boys in
Bangalore is a place filled with nostalgia.

Sitting on the corner of the bench at the home on Hosur Road, the
18-year-old said: “I remember sitting here as a rescued child
labourer, and today, I’m here with my mentors, discussing studies and
a career.”

The story of Shivakumar, who hails from Maindargi on the
Maharashtra-Karnataka border in Solapur district, inspires even the
most jaded of souls.

Early travails

He lost his vision as a child of five when he fell off a building. He
was barely 10 when his mother died in a kitchen fire. His alcoholic
father remarried. From then on, life was an endless battle. Like other
boys in his village, he fled his home. “I ran away on June 14, 2007”.

“It was on June 14 in 2007 that I ran away. Children in my village
routinely ran away to earn money. But I just wanted to run away from
my alcoholic father and my stepmother.”

Then a Class 5 dropout, Shivakumar boarded a train to Bangalore. For
over a year, he packed food for railway passengers. “I would pack food
all day in return for food till a friend told me about a job that
would fetch money.”

His friend took him to Hubli and both started off as hotel hands. “We
sat in a small room and washed vessels for hours. Even if our hands
ached, our employer forced us to continue.”

Fed up, he took a train back to Bangalore and worked in a hotel near
the City Railway Station for Rs. 500 a month. “I used to spend Rs. 150
[getting a high on whitener].”

Just as he was settling down to his “new” life, he was rescued in a
joint operation by the government and an NGO in 2008.

He was sent to the boys’ home and arrangements were being made to send
him back home when life took another turn: he was diagnosed with a
heart ailment and underwent open heart surgery at Jayadeva Institute
of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research in December 2008.

Uncle’s tyranny

Shivakumar was then despatched to his village where his maternal uncle
coerced him to work in his liquor shop. “It was exhausting and painful
but he paid me Rs. 100 daily.”

He was routinely beaten up by drunken clients.

He ran away yet again in March, 2012, to the boys’ home in Bangalore,
the only place where he had got some care and attention. “This time I
did not want money, I only wanted some affection.”

The home’s superintendent, Rajendra Prasad, enrolled him in an SSLC
correspondence course. “He is visually challenged, but it is
remarkable how he has never asks for any concessions for that reason.
He has grown stronger with every trauma,” says Mr. Prasad.

SSLC first class

It was not easy. During his lost childhood, Shivakumar had even
forgotten the alphabet and numbers. But he persisted, taking lessons
from volunteers who taught him Braille and read out lessons. He passed
SSLC with a first class in 2013.

He now aspires to become a chartered accountant. He knows it is not
easy and hopes someone somewhere will help him out.

“I want to go back to my village as a successful person and ensure
children stop fleeing their houses in search of work. No child should
be made to work. They miss out on playing, studying and having fun.
Those are days that never come back.”

The only choice left is to use Loadstone on it.
