LSR goes hi-tech to help out disabled
TNN | Aug 3, 2013, 01.03 AM IST

NEW DELHI: Rinku Shekhawat won't have to ask her teacher to scan her
books for her anymore. "Technology makes us self-reliant," says the
third year English honours student of Lady Shri Ram College in new
delhi, and LSR's swanky new learning and resource centre—for students
with disabilities and from disadvantaged backgrounds—is as hi-tech as
such centres get.

"Most assistive technology is used by English-medium students," says
Karuna Rajeev who teaches English at LSR and is also the coordinator
for the equal opportunity cell (EOC). The centre at LSR is going to
equally benefit students of Hindi and Sanskrit. "There are 10 desktops
here with screen readers. The software is NVDA with Lekha with which
you can also read vernacular texts," says Rajeev. They have also
installed a Braille-embosser—more for the use of this group than those
who study in English. But it is the Hindi OCR (Optical Character
Recognition) that'll make the most difference. It was launched in the
market last year. "Earlier, we never had OCR for Hindi. Hindi text
could be scanned but it would only be an image file. Now we have a
very advanced recognition software than can read the text," says
Rajeev.

The centre's assistive equipment also includes a batch of recorders,
readers, specialized keyboards for those with low vision. Built with
corporate social responsibility funds from KPMG,the centre, housed in
flat 10 on the college campus, is even decorated with artwork by the
disabled and has notices in both regular text and Braille. It contains
a recording room where visually impaired students can record their
lessons—they can even carry the Daisy recorders to class to record
lessons.

Re: [AI] Percentage problem in excel

2013-08-03 Thread zoher kheriwala
There are different situations where you have to use the percentage formula.
Since you have not mentioned the particular situation, we will discuss all
the possible scenarios.

1. If you know the percentage and amount, now you want to calculate
the given percentage on given amount.

Suppose you are buying the product priced 1 thousand rs and you have to pay
10 % sell tax extra, and then how mutch tax you have to pay?

Ans. In a1 type the price of the product which is 1000. In b1 type the tax
percent which is 10% {it is necessary to mention the percentage sign in b2
next to the digit.]. In c1 type the formula =b1*a1 and you will get the
answer 100.

2. If you know the amount and the total you paid on that amount and
want to find the percent you paid.

Suppose you bought a product which is of 1000 rs and you paid 100 rs as tax
extra. Then how mutch % tax you paid?

Ans. In a1 type the price you paid, which is =1000, in b1 type the tax you
paid, which is = 100. In c1 type the formula =b1/a1 you will get the answer
0.10. now press the ctrl+1 and in number tab select percentage and hit ok.
Now the answer will change to 10%.

3. If you know the amount and the percentage and want to calculate the
total.

Suppose you bought the product for which you paid 750 rs and this product
you got with the discount of 25 % then what is the original price of the
product?

Ans. In above example you are paying the 75 % of the actual price. To find
the actual price, you have to consider that 75= 750 then 100 = what? In a1
type the price you paid for the product which is = 750 in b1 type the
percentage of original price you paid which is = 75%. In c1 type the
formula =a1/b1 you will get the answer 1000 which is the original price of
the product.

4. Calculate the difference between 2 numbers.

Suppose you bought the product in 750 rs and next time the same product you
got at 1000 rs then how mutch % price increased on the basses of last
perches?

Ans. In a1 type the previous price which is = 750, in b1 type the current
price which is = 1000. Now in c1 type the formula =(b1-a1)/abs(a1) you will
get an answer 0.333 now press ctrl+1 and in number tab select % you will get
the answer 33.3%

5. Increasing or decreasing the Number by particular percentage.

Suppose you are ready to spend 1000 rs for a product but now you decided to
spent 25% extra to get the better choice. Then how mutch total amount you
are ready to spend?

Ans. In a1 type the previous amount you were ready to spent, which is =
1000 in b1 type the increased percentage amount you are ready to spent,
which is = 25% in c1 type the formula =a1*(1+b1) you will get an answer 1250

In case you want to cut the expenditure then in the above formula instead of
typing 1+b1 type 1-b1 and you will get the answer 750.

This is really a good service provided by delhi metro. Just wanted to know
that. Do we have to give them coach details? If yes, then how do we know the
coach number. Do we have to need assistance from general public.

Can they help while checking the bags, because at some metro stations,
before checking in you have to put your bag into the scanner, which is
problematic, as I have to search my bag out of various bags lying
there.

[AI] All that glitters is not gold!

2013-08-03 Thread David Richards
Dear all Access Indians,

Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has warned that fake hallmarking units are
flourishing in various parts of the country. Hallmarks as official marks have
been in use as a guarantee for the purity of gold and silver. However, some
recent raids conducted by the BIS have underlined the proverb: All that
glitters is not gold! BIS, the national standards body, is operating the
hallmarking scheme for gold and silver to protect the public from adulteration.
BIS recognizes assaying and hallmarking centres across the country through a
process of systematic assessment. These recognized centres receive gold and
silver from jewelers, test their purity and then apply hallmark on them
declaring their tested purity level, according to an official communication.
BIS officials, who conducted a raid at a shop in Thrissur in Kerala recently,
found that a firm named Goldstar Assaying and Hallmarking Centre Private Ltd
was involved in various malpractices. Officials said that they had seized
nearly 4 kg
of gold which had been spuriously hallmarked. "The jewellery was also sealed
by the BIS and action is being taken to derecognize the centre," said H Ajay
Khanna, deputy director of BIS. According to sources, several such illegal
units are functioning across the country to give fake hallmarks to gold and
silver. There are nearly 200 assaying centres certified by BIS across the
country. BIS officials urge the customers, when buying the gold, to check the
BIS symbol, quality of the gold, logo of the hallmarking centre and jeweler's
identification mark on the ornaments. If there is any violations, people can
contact BIS officials to lodge a formal complaint from their respective cities.

"The gold is forever, it is beautiful, useful, and never wears out. Small
wonder that gold has priced over all else, in all ages, as the source of value
that will survive the travails of life and the ravages of time." James Blakely.

"Gold is a treasure, he who possesses it does all he wishes to in this world,
and succeeds in helping the souls into paradise." Christopher Columbus.

"Gold opens all the locks, but no lock holds against the power of the gold."
George Herbert.

"Gold is not necessary, I have no interest in gold, we'll build a solid state,
without an ounce of gold behind it, anyone who sells above the set prices, let
him be marched off to a concentration, it's the bastion of money." Adolf Hitler.

Warm regards.
David Richards.

Hi,

You could make a macro for this. The macro would execute the ctrl+page down
keystroke and then an up arrow keystroke.

2013-08-03 Thread sampath raj rao
Hi Friends,
   Greetings for the day...
I am resending this mail...
I am planning to go for a 3 in 1 that comes with printer,
scanner and copier for preparing notes and taking printouts for my
classroom activities.
plz suggest me which model to go for as I m using Lenovo G570 64bits,
with windows 07 basic home...
I need the scanner to be accessable too for photocopying without
switching on my laptop.
I too need the set to have blue tooth as my mobile can also be
connected to take printouts...

Thanking you in anticipating suggestions...

Yours,
S.Sampath Raj Rao.

Re: [AI] w.r.t. accessable scanners and printers,

2013-08-03 Thread Raaj
If ask my suggestion, I personally won't recommend three in one scanners. It is
because, I was told by few engineers as it is giving trouble often. And again,
if one goes out of order, we cannot bake use of all the three.
So before buying, consider these facts as well.

Subject: [AI] All that glitters is not gold!

Dear all Access Indians,

Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has warned that fake hallmarking units
are flourishing in various parts of the country. Hallmarks as official
marks have been in use as a guarantee for the purity of gold and silver.
However, some recent raids conducted by the BIS have underlined the
proverb: All that glitters is not gold! BIS, the national standards body,
is operating the hallmarking scheme for gold and silver to protect the
public from adulteration. BIS recognizes assaying and hallmarking centres
across the country through a process of systematic assessment. These
recognized centres receive gold and silver from jewelers, test their
purity and then apply hallmark on them declaring their tested purity
level, according to an official communication. BIS officials, who
conducted a raid at a shop in Thrissur in Kerala recently, found that a
firm named Goldstar Assaying and Hallmarking Centre Private Ltd was
involved in various malpractices. Officials said that they had seized
nearly 4 kg of gold which had been spuriously hallmarked. "The jewellery
was also sealed by the BIS and action is being taken to derecognize the
centre," said H Ajay Khanna, deputy director of BIS. According to sources,
several such illegal units are functioning across the country to give fake
hallmarks to gold and silver. There are nearly 200 assaying centres
certified by BIS across the country. BIS officials urge the customers,
when buying the gold, to check the BIS symbol, quality of the gold, logo
of the hallmarking centre and jeweler's identification mark on the
ornaments. If there is any violations, people can contact BIS officials to
lodge a formal complaint from their respective cities.

"The gold is forever, it is beautiful, useful, and never wears out. Small
wonder that gold has priced over all else, in all ages, as the source of
value that will survive the travails of life and the ravages of time."
James Blakely.

"Gold is a treasure, he who possesses it does all he wishes to in this
world, and succeeds in helping the souls into paradise." Christopher
Columbus.

"Gold opens all the locks, but no lock holds against the power of the
gold." George Herbert.

"Gold is not necessary, I have no interest in gold, we'll build a solid
state, without an ounce of gold behind it, anyone who sells above the set
prices, let him be marched off to a concentration, it's the bastion of
money." Adolf Hitler.

Warm regards.
David Richards.

[AI] Accessibility of checking Airtel prepaid mobile plans

2013-08-03 Thread Vamshi. G
Dear friends,

Where do we check airtel prepaid mobile plans? I used to do it on the
Airtel web site earlier. But now-a-days I'm finding it difficult to
find the exact link. Even if I select the region, the table that is
appearing doesn't contain the required information. Can someone guide
me in this regard?
