In my experience, rechargeitnow does work. The earlier interface was
simpler, but the new one also works. What exactly is the issue you are
facing?

Hi,

I would love to join in this effort. Ofcourse it requires a lot of
research, and more importantly discussion with authorities. More often than
not it is not an issue of technology but an issue of communication or
co-ordination. I have previously met with Chief Election Officer,
Maharashtra EC though it was regarding a different topic (NRI Voting
Rights) and would love to join this effort too.

2013-12-06 Thread Vedprakash
Election commission provides the braille list. But it is the staff on duty
that ignores it. most of the on duty election staff does not understand the
importance of that particular paper and just throws it somewhere.

When some VI demands the same, they have no answer.
there is a need to sensetise the staff on duty. election commission has
taken up most of the measures regarding the VI.

it's true Gorge Sir, until & unless we know the list of candidates and
their serial number then how will we come to know to which number we
have to press the button, on EVM machine if the names are provided
against the buttons it will take long time to read where there will be
more candidates, for example in Timarpur constituance there were 12
candidates we can't waste our time reading near EVM machine the other
people in the line will start shouting, so I request you to write to
Election Commission to provide Braille list of candidates outside the
Poling booth so that we can decide to which number we can press
button.

On 12/5/13, George Abraham wrote:

Friends,

I do not think merely providing Braille on the EVMs buttons is the
solution. Most blind voters will not be able to read Braille. The
solution
has to be more universal. Providing Braille notings on buttons is a cut

the EC needs to understand the issue of access and then come up with a
solution.

I would like to take the matter up with the EC post the 8th of December.

In election of 2013 when I used my franchise for the first time I
faced the same problem. I've to seek help from one of the staff
member. Brail is no solution. Audio feedback is the real solution. I
guess there should be two steps while using our franchise. Firstly
there should be 2 sets of buttons for every party, first button should
read out the candidate name and his or her party and second button
should be for registering our vote. A problem arises over here audio
feedback may be audible for others and it defeats our right to
maintain our choice secret, for that headphones or EVMs should be
placed in enclose boots like we have for ATM.

Re: [AI] Accessible voting machine!

2013-12-06 Thread George Abraham
Now we are talking! Braille is more often than not seen as the way to
include blind people into various situations. This is like "ramps" being
the panacea for all disability access. The
EC needs to conceptually understand disability and then think of designs.
Our effort should be to sensitise and educate the EC so that the effort is
not merely restricted to the EVMs but also the officers who man the booths.
There would be technology modifications, man power training and polling
booth designs, maybe modifications in the polling booth protocols and so
on. We need to brainstorm involving the EC. They need to rethink process, a
process that is universal.

In election of 2013 when I used my franchise for the first time I faced the
same problem. I've to seek help from one of the staff member. Brail is no
solution. Audio feedback is the real solution. I guess there should be two
steps while using our franchise. Firstly there should be 2 sets of buttons
for every party, first button should read out the candidate name and his or
her party and second button should be for registering our vote. A problem
arises over here audio feedback may be audible for others and it defeats
our right to maintain our choice secret, for that headphones or EVMs should
be placed in enclose boots like we have for ATM.

I use

www.mobikwik.com

It is perfectly accessible. You can also save your number along with
the service provider so that you don't need to type the same every
time you recharge.

Thanks for the website. Will try recharging from this website too. I was
using paytm.com before, but now a days this website is also not accessible
for me. Easymobilerecharge.com is also the accessible site, but in every
recharge they take extra 2 rupees.

It is perfectly accessible. You can also save your number along with
the service provider so that you don't need to type the same every
 time you recharge.

Re: [AI] SMS alerts to stop able-bodied from hopping onto coaches for disabled

2013-12-06 Thread Kannan. C

A good initiative.
 But, more needed!

With care and regards,

Kannan ...

Skype: kankale63

On 12/5/2013 9:04 PM, Pradeep banakar wrote:

The plan, announced a day after World Disability Day on Tuesday, will help
thousands of handicapped passengers protect their allotted space on local
trains.

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of the Western Railway has planned a special
SMS alert system to prevent able-bodied people from using compartments reserved
for handicapped persons.

This initiative comes in the wake of an aggressive campaign by disabled rights
groups which have been stopping suburban trains where compartments for the
disabled have been occupied by able-bodied people.

Mahim Swami, chief security commissioner and inspector general of the RPF, said, "We
will co-ordinate with the public relations office of the Western Railway to implement the
SMS alert plan, with the help of mobile phone service providers."

The SMS plan was revealed a day after World Disability Day, which was observed
on Tuesday, and would help handicapped travelers protect their space on local
trains.

Bothered by the crowds of able-bodied people regularly misusing handicapped
reserved compartments, activists have been taking recourse to pulling the
emergency alarm chain to stop trains and get these people out. This results in
delays and affects the punctuality of services.

Strangely, even the heavy fine of Rs500 on those caught traveling in a
compartment reserved for the handicapped hasn't deterred these offenders.

Swami said the railway police had also launched a special drive on Tuesday
against able-bodied commuters traveling in compartments for the handicapped.

The SMS that will go out soon reads: "Please don't board the coach for the disabled
on your train journey. It is especially reserved for physically handicapped commuters.
Unauthorised commuters boarding these compartments, will be prosecuted by the RPF under
the Railways Act."

The officials say announcements at stations have failed to stop unauthorised
commuters using compartment for the handicapped. But they believe that the SMS
campaign would make a difference.

Sunil Chimulkar, secretary, Disability Advocacy Group (Mumbai division),
appreciated the SMS initiative saying it would help to reduce illegal travelers
and make travel for handicapped commuters less taxing.

Chimulkar and Jeetendra Karelia, president of the group, together with some
regular handicapped commuters met Swami on Tuesday.

What law says.
Under section 155 of the Indian Railways Act, an able-bodied commuter caught
occupying a berth of seat reserved for the disabled can be fined Rs500.

[AI] How to remove ads in Firefox?

2013-12-06 Thread Chandrashekhar Kulkarni
Dear friends,
I am using firefox 20 on my desktop with xp operating system. But
everytime I open any website, particularly gmail it opens some
advertisement page even when I open a new mail. It's very annoying.
Can we stop this? Pls explain in detail.

Secondly nowadays though basic view as default is set sometimes gmail
goes to standard view. Is there any way to prevent this?

Hoping to hear from experts,

Sincerely,
C. B. Kulkarni

Re: [AI] How to remove ads in Firefox?

2013-12-06 Thread Amit Pahuja
here's the permanent solution for your 1st question. follow the steps
press control+shift+A to go to ad on manager. in search ad on box,
write adblock and press enter
after 2 3 seconds it will show u the list of ad ons. from that list,
find adblock plus. press applications key and enter on install.
you'll not face such problems again

Re: [AI] SAT , for USA

2013-12-06 Thread Kartik Sawhney
Hey Maitreya,

It was good talking to you the other day.

Find inline answers to your questions.

How can a VI prepare for SAT?
ans. The preparation is pretty much the same for a VI and a normal
student. Preparation bookks an guides are available in the market. I
personally used the blue book (the official SAT study guide from
College Board), but others are good too. I'm pretty sure there are a
few books on Bookshare too that you can access independently.

What to do with the graphical maths questions ?
Ans. This depends on the accommodations that you're approved for. Some
of the standard accommodations include the use of a test reader,
writer, time extension, tactile diagrams etc. I used a test reader and
writer, and Collegeboard sent out a reader's script containing verbal
descriptions of the questions having diagrams.

You may also want to refer to the ETS's GRE Math Review textbook to
get an idea of the verbal descriptions on the test. SAT and GRE
content coverage is pretty similar.

All the best!
Best,
