 Hi Mr. R.C. Gupta,

How does a signature guide help in ensuring consistent signatures? The
last time I checked, a signature guide was a frame that you could
place on a page. You would then move your pen in the frame which would
ensure that your signature stayed in the bounds of the frame. The
guide did nothing about ensuring the consistency of the shapes of
 letters.

Are you advertising a different kind of signature guide?
 Pranav

Re: [AI] I am not your inspiration- Stella Young on deglorifyingdisability!

2014-08-05 Thread Subramani L
Payal, Nidhi and others:

1. I'm not known for saying things that are politically correct (in
fact I was banned once from this group for my comments about a
politician that was construed as an insult).
2. I agree with Stella that mere disability doesn't make anyone
inspirational, but as honest people we know when exactly to put a lid
when things go overboard. There's a couplet in Tamil that's relevant
to each of us: A king without a critic will perish without an enemy.
That critic must within each of us.
3. On the contrary, if we think others getting inspired (genuinely) by
a true disabled achiever like Ehric Weihenmmayer the man who touched
the summit of Everest, we will be guilty of masochism and not
'inspiration porn. (to avoid any controversy, by masochism I mean
getting pleasure or pride out of cutting ourselves from making others
feel positive about something we do or the way we live)
4. I wouldn't like to be a hypocrite to say that we should not seek
appreciation or adulation where it's due, but at the same time, if
each of us are honest enough, we would know where to say no to such
things.
5. On an entirely different perspective from Stella, who happens to
live in a country where environment for the disabled is quite
friendly, I'd say that even a seemingly mundane thing like crossing
the road on a busy intersection (where at least a hundred sighted or
able bodied folks suffer fatal traffic accidents) is a miracle if not
an achievement. A disability puts us in a terrible disadvantage in
places that are not designed for us. Now, it's all fantastic to say
that the place needs to be redesigned for our sake, which I absolutely
support, but we know that the mindset of people in this country is so
hopeless that we can't expect utopia to arrive on our street corner
for the next century and a half (that's as far as I could foresee).
So, please do not forget that disability is still a huge challenge for
us here in India and with this perspective we should listen to Stella,
who, by the way, has a different perspective of truth that need not
necessarily apply to everyone.

 Hello all
it was interesting to hear Stella's talk.
she has highlighted a much needed point of disability is not an exception
and of course the way it is used to portray inspiration. the girl without
the hands is objectified to inspire and push the child who perhaps has both
hands but not the patience or temprament to paint or write his lessons
 etc.
in this process the child is subconsciously given the message that he is
 not
only lucky but also superior to the other girl in a fashion.

I too ascribe to the social model of disability defined by Mike Oliver
which says that it is not the disability itself but the environment which
 is
disabling the individuals with an impairment. with hostile infrastructure,
constant struggle for basics like education etc, the nondisabled world
 makes
simple usual things in a life an achievement and the hell they are... but
rather than them lauding us and our everyday struggle they should be
ashamed of the disabling conditions they dish out. i would like to share
 an
example here. when i topped the postgraduate media course the head of my
department told everyone with great pride that i had topped and you know
what without any extra favours from them. the favours she referred to was
simple accommodations like accessible study material etc. they had
practically made my life hell with their non cooperation and they were
 proud
of me overcoming all those challenges. well kudos to me for facing the
challenges but shame on them for their behaviour. so the point is that
sometimes we are forced to combat ordinary situations which are made into
extra ordinary hurdles and then made out to be exceptions having achieved
the ability to live life, learn, work, grow.
on the other hand if we were to consider the disabled and the nondisabled
world together, whoever has achieved something should be appreciated
irrespective of their disability. so when a politician, a CEO of a MNC, a
sports person etc can be my inspiration, i do not know why a disabled
 person
who has achieved something in life should not be marked as an inspiration!
the only difference is these people will be looked up to and definitely not
with the condescending idea with which the girl without hands was being
 considered.

lastly, something i have noticed happening in reality- we as disabled
people sometimes live in a dualism. We want to be the norm but at the first
chance of receiving special treatment, or a word of praise, or the title of
an inspiration or a celebratory award, we jump like school children do on
free ice cream. Like Stella said it is for us to decide if we really have
achieved something or are we being complimented for existing and
 remembering
our name. if latter is the case and we allow this to

Re: [AI] I am not your inspiration- Stella Young on deglorifyingdisability!

2014-08-05 Thread Nikita Jain
Dear All,

i was at TEDx Bangalore on Sunday and you will be surprised to know that
the place was not accessible for wheelchair users. By giving this example I
would like to point out the mindset in our country.

This friend of mine was upset throughout the event and she constantly felt
the humiliation created by this. Not just the main entry, even the rest
rooms had staircase.

Secondly, when I was in the flight going to Bangalore, I was asked for the
feedback by Indigo but while returning back the story was different (the
staff was talking amongst themselves instead of doing the needful).

The point is that we should stop talking and start communicating in a
neutral way whenver it is needed.

And Nidhi,
I faced the similar situation and beleve me people who has the sight ignore
to realise that they are making stronger by challenging us by looking at us
critically or may bve not looking at us at all.

On 5 August 2014 13:19, Subramani L lsubramani.v...@gmail.com wrote:

I too ascribe to the social model of disability defined by Mike Oliver

  is
disabling the individuals with an impairment. with hostile
 infrastructure,
constant struggle for basics like education etc, the nondisabled world
  makes
simple usual things in a life an achievement and the hell they are...
 but
rather than them lauding us and our everyday struggle they should be
ashamed of the disabling conditions they dish out. i would like to share
  an
example here. when i topped the postgraduate media course the head of my
department told everyone with great pride that i had topped and you know
what without any extra favours from them. the favours she referred to was
simple accommodations like accessible study material etc. they had
practically made my life hell with their non cooperation and they were
  proud
of me overcoming all those challenges. well kudos to me for facing the
challenges but shame on them for their behaviour. so the point is that
sometimes we are forced to combat ordinary situations which are made into

Hi Mr. R.C.

[AI] Mumbai: 'Smartcanes' made by IIT-Delhi team to help 60 blind students in city

2014-08-05 Thread avinash shahi
What made me happy about this news that government is facilitating
assistance as helping hand. Wonderful. My congratulations to Saksham
and IITians in Delhi who worked hard on this project. Such superb
effort needs to be rewarded by the government. Its time Saksham, and
Mr Rohan and Piyush from IIT Delhi should contect Equal opportunities
Cells of Central Universities for celling this product. And we the
students studying in different universities need to convince officials
for buying Smartcanes. Remember, out of 5 hundred sixty crores
allocated to Department of Disability Affairs under the 12th five
years plan, huge chunk of fund is slated to be invested in ADIP
scheme. Note: I have no commercial stake in promoting these smartcanes
just aired my personal opinion as a user since its trial days.
http://indianexpress.com/article/cities/mumbai/smartcanes-made-by-iit-delhi-team-to-help-60-blind-students-in-city/
For nearly 60 visually-impaired college students in Mumbai, detecting
obstacles in front of them will no longer require physical contact.
'Smartcanes' developed by a team from Indian Institute of Technology
Delhi (IIT-D) team will enable the students to detect open windows,
electric poles, hanging branches and protruding AC units, open car
door at a distance of three metres using ultrasonic ranging sensors
attached to their regular canes.

The Xavier's Resource Centre for the Visually Challenged (XRCVC), in
association with National Institute for the Visually Handicapped,
Saksham Trust and IIT Delhi, will be distributing the canes to the
students under the central government's Assistance to Disabled Persons
Scheme (ADIP) scheme on Tuesday. The smartcane, which costs Rs 3,000
in the market, will be provided free of charge to the students.

The 'smartcane' device vibrates with three different frequencies when
the obstacle is three, two and one metre away. There is also a special
alarm that will go off for fast-approaching obstacles such as a
reversing car. The device is a product of field trials conducted with
the help of 150 blind people at six sites in the country, including
students from XRCVC.

The device is designed to detect obstacles from knee to head height
up to three metres away, helping them avoid injuries otherwise
sustained due to these obstacles. Our product is portable, small
enough to fit purses and pockets and can be charged through its USB
port. said Rohan Paul, co-founder and postdoctoral fellow, assistive
technologies group, IIT-D, who had worked on this project as an
undergraduate student back in 2005.

With an adjustable knob to detect low-occurring obstacles such as
potholes, the detachable device can be used on almost all canes
available in the market. We have even roped in 'Mumbai cane'
manufacturers to ensure our device is compatible with these canes,
said

Piyush Shanana of IIT-D. According to the researchers, Mumbai canes
are preferred by the visually impaired in the city and are heavier
than regular canes.

The smartcane helps me track people on the busy street without having
to touch them with my cane and has helped reduce my injuries.
Now, people are surprised when I 'see' them coming a distance away and
ask me how I do it. This cane has helped me walk faster and avoid
accidents and even hurting people unintentionally, said Deepak
Jaiswal, a first year BA student at St Xavier's.

Another user, Rajesh Mehta, says the cane helps him avoid falling
between compartments while trying to enter the one for the differently
abled in local trains.

The college students will also receive PlexTalk Vachak, which enables
variable speed recording, enabling access to written content both in
English and Hindi.

While there is a lot of content available in audio format for English
speaking audiences, there has been no help for those who cannot speak
English. Today, with the Vachak it is possible to read Hindi softcopy
books as comfortably as an English e-book, said Dr Sam Taraporevala,
director, XRCVC.

 Dear Mr. prashant ,
Yes , it is a stencil type frame with our chosen letters in the
chosen format. I spoke to Mr. R. C. Gupta today morning and this is
what he told me . As you have rightly mentioned one has to keep the frame
safely.

If I understand correctly it is a stencil type of guide in which the
 outline
of our chosen alphabets are provided in a particular design.
You just run the pen inside it.
It will give perfect results everytime. The guide needs to be kept very
 safe
 however.

 Hi Mr. R.C.

Library-based VIP reading groups are interesting on many levels. Given
that these groups predominantly use audio versions of the text (rather
than print), this links to debates about the changing nature of
reading in a multi-modal age. This book discusses whether contemporary
society still defines reading as a visual activity or whether
technological developments have led to a broadening of the definition
of reading. The author goes on to discuss how policy is translated
into practice within the library context and whether the wide range of
reading groups linked to libraries suggests that libraries understand
and are taking the social inclusion agenda seriously. She also
explores how effectively libraries are using reading groups as a tool
for delivering on the agenda for learning and how this sits within
wider priorities for post-compulsory education and lifelong learning.
Finally the book suggests ideas for future development for these
groups, outlining ways in which their potential could be maximised for
the benefit of both the library and the reading group members.

Book review starts
In Reading Groups, Libraries and Social Inclusion: Experiences of
Blind and Partially Sighted People Eileen Hyder captures an
ethnographic research project, the focus of which is a library-based
reading group for people who have a visual impairment. This account is
coherently set against a comprehensive bibliography, indicating that a
careful review of relevant literature was carried out. The stated aims
of the project were 'to learn more about the individuals who belong to
the group' and 'to explore the reading group experience' (2).
The text is divided into six chapters beginning with an informative
introduction; followed by verbatim accounts of the 'reading histories'
from each participant. An interesting appraisal of the importance of
reading for people with a visual impairment leads to a
thought-provoking examination of reading groups and social justice;
with the role of the library thoroughly explored and to some extent
challenged. Finally, the concept of lifelong learning is discussed;
ending with information gathered from respondents who answered a call
from the author, via the International Federation for Libraries,
explaining innovations that are occurring across the globe.
The introduction to this text provides a historical outline of
'reading' as an activity, as it evolved across the centuries, which is
a useful backdrop to what is an emerging story. An explanation of
'reading groups' across the general populace gives the reader a sense
of the perceptions that can and do exist about this leisure/learning
activity; with Hyder herself coming out as a former non-believer of
the purpose and validity of reading groups.
On the whole, this is a fascinating read that achieves what it sets
out to do; that is, to convey the experiences of people with a visual
impairment within the context of a reading group, and to illustrate
the processes involved from a position of reflection and learning. In
addition, this text - and more particularly the voice of the
participants - challenges systems and society in terms of the
actuality of the lived experiences for people across the broad range
of terms used to explain visual impairment (14). As a result the
content evokes reflections on many more levels than just membership of
a reading group.
Thinking about how 'reading' is understood, defined, accessed and
validated are the central themes of this book; alongside issues such
as inclusion, which unfolds through the words of group member John as
a misleading term that can often further compound the isolation felt
when difference exists (59). The influences of technology adds to this
debate but is not yet as advanced in the United Kingdom as you might
imagine when you consider a change to the law in France in 2006 that
stipulated publishers must make source files available on the grounds
of access (Cabut 20131. Cabut, S. 2013. France Leads the Way on

Cabut goes on to explain that 'this exception to the law of copyright,
on the grounds of accessibility, may soon become universal, a global
treaty having been signed in Marrakech in June

Pudukottai, Trichy:
Her world may be in perpetual darkness but she chooses to light up
lives of others. Just like thousands of men and women who have donned
the mantle of teaching . But for Dr. K.Radhabai, Head of History
Department , Government Arts College for Women, Pudukottai , every day
is a challenge to prove herself.

Her visual impairment doesn't strike at first sight. Her every step
speaks of determination, confidence and courage. Though her road to
acceptance and recognition was not strewn with roses, she went on to
become the first visually challenged woman to get a Ph.D in South
India. Radhabai insists she is happy and contented today. . Her highly
animated face is a cue to how she brings alive Socrates and Alexander
in her classroom.

Pushing boundaries

Fifty years ago in Usilampatti in Madurai district, a village
notorious for female infanticide, a family decided to keep their baby
girl, though she was born partially blind. Radhabai blesses that
family for her life and the support they gave her. Her siblings
affectionately hover around her even today.

“My father was responsible for my development. He was my first
teacher. I can still remember him holding me close to him when we went
out and the first Thirukurals he taught me,” she fondly reminiscences.
“I was treated like a normal child at home.”

After a few years in a private school, Radhabai was admitted to the
Government School for the Blind at Poonamallee, Chennai, when she was
nine. Though she topped her school in the SSLC exams, her retired
father who had to support a family of six children could not fund her
higher education owing to financial constraints.

Her entry into the Rehabilitation Centre for Blind Woman at
Mannarpuram, Tiruchi, run by Priya Theodore, brought her a fresh lease
of life. The Director who believed she should be given a chance to
study further, helped her gain admission in Seethalakshmi Ramasamy
College in Tiruchi.

Radhabai who deems Ms Theodore as her biggest motivator says,
“Acceptance is still a hard thing for all disabled persons. The
Principal of the college first thought I would be wasting a seat. I
remember my room mate complaining to her that she did not want to room
with a blind girl. But Ms.Theodore insisted I stay. When I topped the
class in P.U.C, the same Principal wanted me to continue in that
institution. And she readily came forward to help fund my education.”

A persevering Radhabai proceeded to win the silver medal in History at
the University level , following which she gained special permission
from the university to do her Ph.D immediately. Not the one to be
deterred by her disability, she travelled with her mentor, Professor
Edward Jonathan across India for her doctoral thesis, ‘History of
Rehabilitation Services to the Blind in India, with special reference
to Tamil Nadu.' After five years of unflinching labour, she submitted
her thesis and was awarded the doctorate in 1989.

Enlightening minds

After a stint as special lecturer in special education at the
Avinashilingam Deemed University, Coimbatore, she secured a post as
lecturer at the Government Arts College for Women, Pudukottai in 1994.
Today as Associate Professor and Head of the Department of History,
she participates in seminars and paper presentations with ardour.
Apart from advocating issues concerning the visually impaired in her
articles and lectures, she is a motivational speaker who inspires by
example. “Small acts like preparing and presenting a power point
presentation on my own acts as motivation to differently-abled
students,” she notes.

Someone who has given umpteen number of sensitisation and motivation
programmes, her focus is primarily on the welfare of the disabled,
empowerment of women, development of youth and protection of the
environment. She believes that education and economic independence are
the cornerstones for women's empowerment.

She urges the differently abled to accept their circumstances. “We
must focus on our abilities rather than our disabilities. It is only
through perseverance and practice, we can overcome our limitations.
And when you prove yourself, society would recognise and applaud you.”

Assuring acceptance

Though positive changes can be perceived in societal attitude to the
disabled, misconceptions still prevail, she points out.

[AI] France leads the way on audiobooks for blind and visually impaired people By Sandrine Cabut

2014-08-05 Thread avinash shahi
It is a technological advance for which many are grateful: For the
first time, when the results of the French book prizes were published
this year, they were already available for our members as
computer-generated audiobooks, says Luc Maumet, head of the media
library operated by the Association Valentin-Haüy (AVH), which helps
blind and visually impaired people.
http://www.theguardian.com/society/2013/dec/31/digital-audiobooks-visually-impaired-download-france
Thanks to new technology and systems such as Eole, a download service
AVH launched in April, the visually impaired and other people
prevented from reading by a physical or motor disability can also
access, almost in real time, new publications: fiction, non-fiction,
cookbooks and such. When I started here about 10 years ago,
audiobooks were on cassettes and our members sometimes had to wait
years to borrow them, Maumet recalls, as we tour the ground-breaking
library at the AVH headquarters in the seventh arrondissement of
Paris.

The library is quite a surprise. Hundreds of CDs in white sleeves are
arranged on wood shelves, with just a few lines of text in black
print. Titles can be identified by their reference in braille on the
back cover. Farther on are several metres of A4 spiral notebooks, also
completely white. The contrast with the relatively dark floor helps
visually impaired staff find their way around. The advantage with
books in braille is that access to the text is more immediate, Maumet
says. The problem is all the space they take up. An average novel is
seven volumes long in braille. It takes two wheelie cases to carry The
Kindly Ones, by Jonathan Littell, which is 1,400 pages long. The
library is also equipped with special electronic devices: CD players
and memory sticks for Daisy-format audiobooks, suitable for the
visually impaired; PCs with braille terminals; video magnifiers that
will enlarge text from a standard document as large as required,
change the colours and adjust the contrast.

But most AVH subscribers do not actually visit the library. The staff
of 17, half of whom are visually impaired, handle most of the demand
by email, phone or post. An audiobook can be burned on a CD and
dispatched to mainland France free of charge.

In the past few years, new technology has brought about major changes
in the daily life of blind and severely visually impaired people - 1.2
million in France, 285 million worldwide. Services for downloading
audiobooks have appeared in many countries. There are also special
players for listening to books. PCs and smartphones now offer similar
functions. Braille terminals are available too, with scope for reading
and input.

A French law, passed in 2006, requires publishers to make their source
files available to certified organisations, enabling the latter to
transcribe books into sound or braille - on paper and digitally - and
to distribute them. This exception to the law of copyright, on the
grounds of accessibility, may soon become universal, a global treaty
having been signed in Marrakech in June 2013. At AVH hundreds of
volunteers take part in recording audiobooks, but increasingly this
process is being automated. In just a few hours a computer can use
synthetic speech to generate a whole audiobook.

Eole, one of the largest French-language digital libraries, already
has more than 6,000 audio titles. In six months we have registered
over 1,600 users, downloading 30,000 files. The challenge now is to
make this service known to a larger audience, Maumet says, adding
that users need a certificate from an eye specialist or to be already
registered as more than 80% visually impaired. We would like to offer
the service to people with other disabilities, such as dyslexia, as is
the case in Sweden, but it's not legal in France, he explains. We
are catching up, but other challenges lie ahead. How, for instance,
can we translate a coffee-table book on luxury cars?

Eole already has plenty of satisfied subscribers. Pascale Isel, for
instance, has downloaded books in all the available formats:
audiobooks recorded by real people, or software, or in digital
braille. On public transport I prefer my little braille notebook. At
home I listen to audiobooks on my iPhone while I'm doing the
housework, she says. Born blind, she is quick to adopt new
technology.

It's a fantastic service, says Caroline Dunoyer, an interpreter who
has been visually impaired since birth. She consumes large numbers of
audiobooks, but also checks the papers thanks to a subscription to a
voice press service, vocalepresse.com, which provides audio access to
more than 50 papers on the day of publication.

Accessibility Review – IRCTC Next Generation e-Ticketing System – Part 1
 by SG Accessibility Solutions
IRCTC has recently launched their next generation ticketing system and we
decided to post accessibility review in a two or more parts. Reason for
splitting into parts is that we would want IRCTC to fix problems in phased
manner and start with the main and popular section of the website - Booking a
 train ticket!

Firstly, I congratulate IRCTC for their efforts to provide best possible
experience. For a long time we hear comments like IRCTC is slow, never
able to book tickets on IRCTC and so on... and this next generation
ticketing system is really fast. I have used it for about last a month or so
and booked several tickets and never had a problem in terms of speed or
 booking process.

So one problem is almost solved as far as booking process is concerned and
now I urge IRCTC to consider looking into accessibility aspect of the portal.
Below are some findings to start with:

 Login Page
Very difficult for keyboard users to reach login form: As we know login is
one of the popular section that a user would use. For a keyboard only users,
as of writing, it requires using tab key for 8 times. One way to resolve this
issue is by providing a same page link called Skip to Login at the top of the
page. The code would look something like this:
At the top of the page: a href=#loginSkip to login /a
Just before the login heading: a name=login
Lack of heading structure: Though visually all sections appears to have
headings, they are not marked up with heading attributes thus assistive
technologies such as screen readers and search engines cannot identify these
 headings.
Associated labels are missing for form fields: Similar to headings, visually
one would see form labels but due to lack of for and id attributes,
association between label and input fields are missing. For a screen
reader user, it would be read something like edit, edit, select and so on...
CAPTCHA: I know security is important and for such a large scale application,
definitely yes; however, currently there is no way on this site how
customers with vision impaired can solve this image based CAPTCHA. There
needs to be an alternative such as audio CAPTCHA and to address needs of
everyone, it would be recommended to have a text based CAPTCHA such as a math
 question etc.,
 Search trains book tickets
Like mentioned above, it's very difficult for keyboard only users to reach
the booking form. It requires them to press tab key for 11 times to reach
booking form. Solution would be add Skip to booking form link at the top of
 the page.
Associated labels are missing for form fields: Similar to headings, visually
one would see form labels but due to lack of for and id attributes,
association between label and input fields are missing. For a screen
reader user, it would be read something like edit, edit, select and so on...
Date picker: It's impossible for a keyboard only user as well as screen
reader users to use date picker. Firstly while pressing tab key, focus will
just skip the date picker field being it a read-only input field; thus it
cannot be used via keyboard. Solution would be let user enter the date either
manually or using date picker. Providing both options would be great. In
addition required date format can be notified.
Radio buttons to select general / ladies / tatkal does not have associated
 labels
Appropriate labels are present to fill in passenger details - great! However,
a few fields like contact number are missing the associated labels
Again, there needs to be an alternative for CAPTCHA on booking page
I think if IRCTC could start fixing these issues, it would be really great!
In addition, it would be absolutely valuable to avoid table mark-up for
 layout purposes; instead use CSS.

Dear IRCTC, you delivered a really fast and intuitive portal so please
consider looking into accessibility and it would be helpful to large number
of customers who are with disabilities. Thank you in advance.

 Best,
 Srinivasu

hope that a long channel of beurocracy would listen your voice.
accessibility is the right of all the disabled persons in the built
environment, and IRCTC is a virtual office or counter to book a railway
ticket. they have to provide a barrier free environment. unfortunately they
are not interested at all on such matters. secondly, they should not be
advised for audio capture. because audio capture is a transitory method and
the quality of the audio would not match to the user.

Firstly, I congratulate IRCTC for their efforts to provide best possible
experience. For a long time we hear comments like IRCTC is slow, never
able to book tickets on IRCTC and so on... and this next generation
ticketing system is really fast. I have used it for about last a month or
so and booked several tickets and never had a problem in terms of speed
or booking process.

So one problem is almost solved as far as booking process is concerned
and now I urge IRCTC to consider looking into accessibility aspect of the
portal. Below are some findings to start with:

Login Page
Very difficult for keyboard users to reach login form: As we know login
is one of the popular section that a user would use. For a keyboard only
users, as of writing, it requires using tab key for 8 times. One way to
resolve this issue is by providing a same page link called Skip to Login
at the top of the page. The code would look something like this:

At the top of the page: a href=#loginSkip to login /a
Just before the login heading: a name=login
Lack of heading structure: Though visually all sections appears to have
headings, they are not marked up with heading attributes thus assistive
technologies such as screen readers and search engines cannot identify
these headings.
Associated labels are missing for form fields: Similar to headings,
visually one would see form labels but due to lack of for and id
attributes, association between label and input fields are missing.
For a screen reader user, it would be read something like edit, edit,
select and so on...
CAPTCHA: I know security is important and for such a large scale
application, definitely yes; however, currently there is no way on this
site how customers with vision impaired can solve this image based
CAPTCHA. There needs to be an alternative such as audio CAPTCHA and to
address needs of everyone, it would be recommended to have a text based
CAPTCHA such as a math question etc.,

Search trains book tickets
Like mentioned above, it's very difficult for keyboard only users to
reach the booking form. It requires them to press tab key for 11 times to
reach booking form. Solution would be add Skip to booking form link at
the top of the page.
Associated labels are missing for form fields: Similar to headings,
visually one would see form labels but due to lack of for and id
attributes, association between label and input fields are missing.
For a screen reader user, it would be read something like edit, edit,
select and so on...
Date picker: It's impossible for a keyboard only user as well as screen
reader users to use date picker. Firstly while pressing tab key, focus
will just skip the date picker field being it a read-only input field;
thus it cannot be used via keyboard. Solution would be let user enter the
date either manually or using date picker. Providing both options would
be great. In addition required date format can be notified.
Radio buttons to select general / ladies / tatkal does not have
associated labels
Appropriate labels are present to fill in passenger details - great!
However, a few fields like contact number are missing the associated
labels

The RBI Governor Dr Raghuram Rajan kept key policy rates unchanged
today in his third bi-monthly monetary policy review. Repo rate, the
rate at which RBI lends money to banks for the short term, was kept
unchanged at 8% while the Reverse Repo Rate, the rate at which RBI
borrows money from banks, was kept unchanged at 7%. The cash reserve
ratio for banks has been kept unchanged at 4%. The reverse repo rate
under the LAF will remain unchanged at 7% and the marginal standing
facility (MSF) rate and the Bank Rate have been kept unchanged at 9%.
The RBI has decided to reduce the statutory liquidity ratio (SLR) of
scheduled commercial banks by 50 basis points from 22.5% to 22% of
their net demand and time liabilities (NDTL) with effect from the
fortnight beginning August 9, 2014. Statutory liquidity ratio (SLR)
refers amount that the commercial banks require to maintain with the
RBI in the form of gold or government approved securities (G-Secs or
bonds) before lending. This move will give banks more freedom to
increase credit or loan to non-government sectors which will help to
improve economic activity.
The RBI has projected India's GDP growth for the current financial
year at 5.5% from earlier GDP growth of 4.7% in the previous financial
year. The improvement in growth is due to improve investment sentiment
and improved economic activity under the newly elected NDA government.

Hi Bhawani,

Thank you for your note.

1. Who at IRCTC mentioned you that they are not interested in such matters? I
would like like to start following up with that person whom you have provided
constructive feedback earlier. Please do send me copies of letters or emails if
any.

All, if any of you have had conversation with IRCTC and following up, please
add me in loop.

2. Bhawani - you are right about audio. CAPTCHA. that's the reason I suggested
both options. That said let them start somewhere.

Thanks again for reading the post.
