Re: [AI] Tax exemption on Conveyance allowance of INR 3200/- per month for VI people

2019-08-08 Thread bhawani shankar verma
this deduction of special conveyance allowance is above the standard
deduction of rs.4/- If your father is fully dependent upon you and there
is no separate income for him either from pension or any other means, you
can claim tax exemption in 80db. treatment of serious medical ailment. you
should have prescription and bills ready if demanded by your assessing
officer.

Hi there
Just wanted a clarification here .
Is this deduction over and above the standard deduction of INR 4 that is
allowed for everyone ? It would be good if it were . My tax consultant is
saying that this deduction is subsumed under the standard deduction . Also ,
sir I wanted to know if I have taken care of my father as he had a stroke
and incurrred expenses , would that also be used for exemption over and
above the INR 125000 i am claiming ?

Looking forward to your response

Hi Meesha,

As far as my understanding goes, although conveyance allowance is no
longer tax exempt for ordinary citizens but the relevant section 10
(14) Rule2BB hasn't been scrapped. Therefore, the deduction for
conveyance allowance should still hold true for persons with
disabilities.

My ITR has been processed for this year, while filing the return, I
had to manually add a row and choose other allowances under Secton 10
and write the description as "Conveyance Allowance exempt under Sec
10(14) for blind" and amount (38400).

If there isn't any section of Conveyance allowance in your form16 then
you may not claim the deduction for that particular year.

Following URL should help you.

Do get back if you have any issues.

Hello members,

Please can you confirm if the tax exemption conveyance allowance of INR
3200/- per month is applicable in last and current financial year?

I would really appreciate if you can help me with a URL which confirm
this

information and thus I can forward it to my employer.

I have only claimed exemption under section 80 U so far and just learnt
that we are entitled to a further exemption of INR 38, 400 annually but
couldn’t be clear on it.

It happens that my form 16 for last financial year doesn’t include this
exemption so can I claim the refund on my tax paid while filling my ITR?

Thanks to confirm.

Re: [AI] sad loss -Prof Shamnad Basheer

2019-08-08 Thread turab chimthanawala
Trully saddening!
While my knowledge of Prof. Basheer was mostly through Kanchan Ma'am
and others.. I was fortunate to have a brief dialogue with him during
my LLM.
First, he had very kindly arranged for CLAT preparatory material in
soft copy . And then at NALSAR, his team had arranged for students to
read to me during my first semester. These facilities were provided
within hours!
The work done by IDIA at NALSAR was evident: accessible study material
easily available without us making repeated requests/ follow ups to
the faculty.
His demise is a huge loss not only for the disabled and legal
fraternity but for India: for while they are many stalwarts few use
their intellect and outreach to impact other's lives.
May his soul rest in peace.

Extremely disturbing news. Knew Shamnad personally. Worked with him on
several occasions.

Terrible loss.

Re: [AI] Tax exemption on Conveyance allowance of INR 3200/- per month for VI people

2019-08-08 Thread Ajay Minocha

Following URL should help you.
https://enabled.in/wp/income-tax-deductions-persons-disabilities-2019-update/

Do get back if you have any issues.

HTH,
Ajay

[AI] Tax exemption on Conveyance allowance of INR 3200/- per month for VI people

2019-08-08 Thread Meesha Arora
Hello members,

Please can you confirm if the tax exemption conveyance allowance of INR
3200/- per month is applicable in last and current financial year?

I would really appreciate if you can help me with a URL which confirm this
information and thus I can forward it to my employer.

Meesha

Re: [AI] sad loss -Prof Shamnad Basheer

2019-08-08 Thread Rahul Bajaj
Professor Basheer was one of my foremost mentors — someone with whom I had the
great honour of doing impactful work in IP law as well as disability law. I am
devastated beyond words; it is a huge personal loss. Soon before I left for
Oxford, he fondly told me that he tells everyone that I will be India’s first
visually impaired Supreme Court judge. Such was the greatness of the man - He
knew how to see the best in us all and to provide one the encouragement to
develop those facets of one’s personality.

[AI] sad loss -Prof Shamnad Basheer

2019-08-08 Thread Kanchan Pamnani
I have just been informed that Prof Shamnad Basheer passed away under very
tragic circumstances. Shamnad was only 43.

I met him for the first time when we were presenting to the Standing Committee
of Parliament on the copyright issue.

Although he was not disabled he had researched the subject thoroughly and had
been guiding us, strategizing with us and had been lobbying for us in
government circles and in the legal community.

After the presentation we had chai together and one thing I still remember he
looked at us and said it was a great thing that the community that was most
affected was leading the fight.

This is when he set up IDIA-

Increasing Diversity by Increasing Access (IDIA), a non‑profit body that aims
to empower underprivileged communities through legal education.

He not only trained underpriviledged including visually impaired children to
give and do extremely well in the Common Law Tests for the National Law
Schools/Universities, but also held their hand by arranging accessible study
material, helped them with stipends and placements. He even tried to get
accommodation for the IDIA scholars during their internships.

He was someone whose intentions I could trust entirely. He was a man of both
wit and wisdom.

I am at a loss for further words.

I can only say we lost a great friend, a great man, a great thinker and each
one of us in this group must bow to a man who has stood by us and who used his
brilliance for the good of the community.

We have lost many from this group and I miss them all.

The loss of brilliance of Rahul Cherian, Javed Abidi and now Shamnad Basheer by
their untimely deaths at a young age, will never be forgotten or be
replaceable.

Kanchan
