Re: [AI] Fwd: Please take back capcha from online.sbi.com it denies independent Net banking to visually impaired customers

2019-08-18 Thread Sai Bhagat
Dear All,

After reading this thread on AI I thought to share my findings with all of you.

Last year I was involved in a research which evaluated accessibility
of e-governance portals in our country and we observed that CAPTCHA is
one of the big show stoppers in terms of digital accessibility. You
can refer the complete research paper by visiting the URL at the
bottom.

It is very important in context of security but hampers the overall
accessibility. As we all know, complete removal of CAPTCHA is not
possible but accessible alternatives like logical/text based CAPTCHA,
Google’s Re-CAPTCHA or OTP verification can be provided.

Professional research for accessible CAPTCHA alternatives is a need of
the time which will improve accessibility without compromising the
security.

Re: [AI] content writing -A good fit for people with blindness

2019-08-18 Thread john clayton
Hi Vineet,
Your idea indeed is worth considering and something we along with the
blind organizations should be thinking about. Content writing does not
require much but a fluency in the language you seak to write in (English in
this case), access to a computer, and creativity, of course.
I had an opportunity in the last year or there abouts to try my hands at
it, and it was certainly better than my expectations but then again, it is
as much to do with the employer as with the work itself.
I believe I might know what Preeti is refering to, that is the spelling
skills along with good written communications with proper use of words is a
skill that not many have, but I think it could be fixed with practice along
with other activities such as reading books, and not just non-fiction..
And of course, the more we work at something, the better we get at it.
So roll out those keyboards and headphones, and write away the night XD.
@Preeti, I shall get in touch with you as regards the content writing
opportunity/ work you refer to, as I am out of work atm and could certainly
do with some. =)

But most of the writing must be in English and good English writing
knowledge is tough to find with most visually impaired people!

Any thoughts?

Re: [AI] Fwd: Please take back capcha from online.sbi.com it denies independent Net banking to visually impaired customers

2019-08-18 Thread Ravi N. Hiremath
If the banks have introduced CAPTCHA for their security, as it's
creating problem for us, let us hope and ask them to provide some kind
of alternative like entering the OTP sent to our registered mobile
number to varify it's us as an alternative of entering the CAPTCHA
text or just bring some kind of simple math problem sort of challenge,
where we could enter the calculated value instead of the CAPTCHA hope
this issue is taken seriously by the bank and changed as soon as
possible.
Today afternoon also, as I tried to log in to the Online SBI website,
encountered the same problem of captcha, I have also written a
feedback mail to them, let's wait and see what happens, hope it
happens soon, as it's very crutial that we have to get easy access
that is, quick to log in and out when we need, which has made us lot
of independent.

 Dear All, king

for internet banking of SBI they have again introduced capcha. It would
 be
our humble request to do away with it. It seriously hampers one's access
from internet banking to big group of visually challenged members.

 Thank you

[AI] lack of students with blindness entering Top B school

2019-08-18 Thread Vineet Kumar
Dear Access Indians,

One of the people working closely in IIM Bangalore was expressing
concerns on the lack of persons with visual disabilities entering
premier institues like IIM’s.We have a robust community & should
definitely create pool of talented students who crack CAT & enter such
institutes. The person also told me that for the past 4 years, they did
not have any candidate with severe visual disabilities which is
alarming. The process of sensitisation should continue & any aspiring
students can connect with so many individuals with blindness who are
doing well from B-schools.The organisations working in this arena have
a responsibility to prepare young students for post graduation & I am
contemplating a support group with my fellow alumni’s for this
purpose.
You can reach out to me in this e-mail Id for any guidance or any of
the several list members.
Cheers,
vineet

Re: [AI] Regarding cappcha in SBI Net Banking

2019-08-18 Thread Mahesh S. Panicker
captcha virus is catching up with multiple public sector banks, I
think we should take it up at a greater level. Think the social model
presense of Prime Minister Modi and his council of ministers over
Twitter and Facebook has to be used to our advantage. We should bring
this issue to the notice of the PM and the MSJE minister through
social media and the various apps. Its not just SBI or Central Bank,
LIC, the NPS, IRCTC and many other essential government service
providers harass us with captchas without alternatives from time to
time though LIC of late has become usable again.

[AI] Regarding cappcha in SBI Net Banking

2019-08-18 Thread NAFISA BUHARIWALA
Dear Access Indians,
In this regard I would like to narrate my experience with Central Bank of India.
Net Banking of CBI was absolutely accessible and I would proudly tell
everyone about it.
One fine day I found that cappcha was introduced on the login screen.
Being an ex employee of CBI, I got in touch with my IT Department and
told them that the cappcha has made the net banking inaccessible and I
need sighted help to login in my account. They said they were helpless
as it was a audit requirement. They asked me if there was any
alternative. I told them that they should give a choice to send the
cappcha by sms to the registered mobile number. Now they have
introduced this and the login screen tells you to enter the cappcha or
to send the cappcha by sms. CBI cappcha is a simple 5 digit number and
it works wonderfully.

Nafisa Buhariwalla
