Timings are still not decided. But, the tentative training batch

Dear Kriya Jain,

Rights of persons with Disabilities are always ignored and kept aside
or compromised. I have an idea for you to start with a simple letter
addressing your requirements related to infrastructure or web
accessibility to your seniours or superiors mentioning the following
as your fundamental right and it is the duty of the employer to comply
with different accessibility guidelines/rules/notifications, etc.
Also, you can mention about the Rights for Persons with Disabilities
Act 2016. I would suggest you to do this first and than the next steps
can be taken as per their response.

Only Kindle Fire is accessible. It used to be available in the market earlier, 
but Amazon has now discontinued distribution of Kindle Fire in India because of 
low demand. So if you want a Kindle Fire, you need to ask someone abroad to 
send it to you.

Wish you all the best for this new journey.
I'm sure our learned colleagues will come up with their suggestions. I
think you should ask the authorities if providing screen reading
software like Jaws is a norm there. I know of some organizations that
do provide VI employees with Jaws within a month of their joining.
Accessibility of websites etc is an issue many of our colleagues would
be struggling with. You can gradually bring this to the notice of your
seniors (esp IT deptt).
I welcome views of our colleagues, but I think we should ask for
legitimate rights without always looking like activists.

Hello all,
At Microsoft Research India, we are working on a research project to make
all published material such as newspapers, comics, and other
cultural/regional content accessible to the visually impaired community. We
are starting with accessible newspapers in English and Hindi and will
expand over time to other content.
We are currently seeking 10 volunteers who would benefit from a daily
accessible e-Newspaper and are interested in helping improve the experience
for the community. Volunteers will receive the e-Newspaper daily and can
share their feedback on the experience. We aim to incorporate the feedback
and improve the experience rapidly.

As many of you know, I-Stem organises our annual event every year
where we provide platform to people with disabilities, industry
leaders and stakeholders from various educational institutes to
network, brainstorm, and share their experiences with each other. Our
last event was online due to covid restriction, but this year we are
back with an in-person event in New Delhi on 25th and 26 March 2022.
During the 2-day event, we will have several professional workshops,
networking sessions and sessions on I-Stem offerings and future plans
for the community. We would also love to hear our community members
and receive their valuable feedback. Please note, you do not need to
be technical or have technical skills to participate in the event,
this is open to everyone. This year we are also providing 30
scholarships for the community members to attend the event. The
scholarship includes your travel and stay in Delhi. To register for

[AI] User experience - Samsung AI enabled washer Dryer

Hi all,

I recently purchased Samsung washer dryer (

) which costed me around INR47k after  INR10k ICICI bank credit
card discount from Croma. This machine is AI enabled which means it can
easily be controlled through Samsung Smartthings app.
Some observations:
1. The setup (pairing the machine with phone/ Wi-fi) needs to be completed
with someone having eyesight. Usually the installation technician does this
one-time exercise.
2. User needs to turn on the power button then smart control button
everytime from the machine in order to operate it from the mobile
application. Although both the buttons are on a touch pannel but are easier
to locate due to tactile/ braille marking. Also, it is easier to judge if
the buttons are turned on as their are special beaps for these actions.
3. Once the smart control feature is turned on then a blind person can
independently select the washing cycle along with setting up the custom
options i.e. temperature, drying intensity etc. through the mobile app.
4. Although I am not aware about the app's accessibility on IOS but it
works fine on my android device with timely notifications and all buttons
clearly read out by talkback.
5. I chose to purchase the machine with dryer functionality (Hot air dryer)
but the same features are available in a normal front-load machine as well
which should cost between INR35-40k.
6. Ideally this can be controlled through Google home/ Amazon Alexa also
but I haven't got a chance to set it up as of now.

All in all, This can be an accessible and better replacement for
specialized talking models which are difficult to find. Also, I personally
prefer smart gadgets over talking one's as they represent inclusive design
rather than specialized products for a small set of population.

I do use the track changes feature regularly, but I am unable to read
the changes made by others. Also, there is a feature called compare
merge, which allows one to see the changes made by 2 people in a
single document. I'll be very grateful for anyone familiar with this
feature to please get in touch with me and  assist me with this
