Re: [AI] accessibility of income tax website

2022-07-18 Thread bhawani shankar verma
Sir, you are right that NSDL incometax payment site has a captcha. I would
prefer a text based solution instead audio solution such as login page of
PNB's net banking website. However, you can try google chroam image
recognition facility to solve this particular captcha. I can not guarantee
that it will solve at once. you should try twice or thrice, if could not
succeed. But, this is not a permanent solution, only text based or math
calculation based solution is the best. i think that mission accessibility
will also take this webpage in their list.

Subject: [AI] accessibility of income tax website

Dear list members, some time back, a discussion on income tax website
accessibility took place. In this regard, I would like to share my experience.

Yesterday, I successfully submitted my return to the website. However, I had to
take assistance at one point which needs to be attended to.

As I validated my return form and clicked ‘Pay Now’, I selected other banks,
that is, the second option. In the second option, I found my bank and clicked
on ‘submit’.

I was taken to NSDL site which had a captcha before I could I continue. There
was no voice captcha available or any other option. Hence I had to take
assistance. As I submitted after solving the captcha, PNB login page opened. No
problem hereafter.

NSDL site has a captcha which cannot be read even through jaws picture
recognition option, which is insert plus space, than p and c. I solve many
captch through this option but on NSDL it failed.

What can be done in this matter? Please help.

[AI] accessibility of income tax website

2022-07-18 Thread Ved
Dear list members, some time back, a discussion on income tax website
accessibility took place. In this regard, I would like to share my
experience.

Yesterday, I successfully submitted my return to the website. However, I had
to take assistance at one point which needs to be attended to.

As I validated my return form and clicked 'Pay Now', I selected other banks,
that is, the second option. In the second option, I found my bank and
clicked on 'submit'.

I was taken to NSDL site which had a captcha before I could I continue.
There was no voice captcha available or any other option. Hence I had to
take assistance. As I submitted after solving the captcha, PNB login page
opened. No problem hereafter.

NSDL site has a captcha which cannot be read even through jaws picture
recognition option, which is insert plus space, than p and c. I solve many
captch through this option but on NSDL it failed.

What can be done in this matter? Please help.

Re: [AI] Minutes - Weekly meeting on July 16, 2022

2022-07-18 Thread Pinkesh Tailor
Hi,

are these efforts backed by some constitutional or legal framework? I
mean, is there some kind of fine or punishment for not meeting the
accessibility guideline? Otherwise we would just be going round the
bush without any concrete results. Chasing each and every website or
mobile app owner and companies would prove to be a night mare. Instead
some law in the RPWD act would empower us to challenge for
accessibility mandates.

Thanks,

Rahul,

A dentist who I visit uses practo. I have been able to use their webpage
successfully to chat with him. I get a link via text message and when I click
on that link, I am taken to a page where I can leave a message.

Yes, This does not amount to using the app. This is on IOS.

Picture Smart is a Jaws feature wherein one can submit a picture for
analysis. Jaws would provide a discription in the Result Viewer about
the image. If there is text in the image, Jaws can report that.
To navigate a captcha, move focus to the captcha image, then Jaws key+
Space, then P for Picture Smart, and C for control. In the result
Viewer window, enter on More results to get an idea about the captcha
text. Often, the captcha letters/digits are provided with spaces in
between, do away with it, more often than not, you should be good to
go.

[AI] Litigation against Practo for the inaccessibility of their app: hearing tomorrow [Tuesday]

2022-07-18 Thread Rahul Bajaj
Dear Access India Family,

I had filed a case against Practo a few months ago in the court of the
CCPD. This was after efforts to negotiate with them about the accessibility
of their app failed. The hearing will take place tomorrow [19th July].

If you have any inputs that you think should be brought up in the hearing,
please do share.

Warmly,
Rahul

Hi everyone. I am truly heartened to see the volume of messages in this thread.
It shows how significant a problem inaccessibility is, and underscores the
importance of doing the work that we have taken up. We would need your constant

in India from an inconvenience to be tolerated into a violation of rights to be
remedied. Thank you.

2022-07-18 Thread Kunal Mehta
Hello,

Depends on what you're looking for. I and most people I know use eco dot (I
suppose 4th gen is available currently).

The same device is also available paired with a light that can be
controlled using your device.

These devices generally have good discounts in Amazon sales.

Hope this helps

2022-07-18 Thread Mahesh S. Panicker
While captchas are a nightmare from an accessibility point of view,
the Jaws Picture Smart can help solve a decent number of those. Its
not perfect, but in my experience, it does help in 70 percent of
situations. But yes, captchas should be accessible, should be audio
options or they should be math based ones.

Hello all,
Thank you for your suggestions. We have contacted each one of them flagged by
you. Either directly or through some of our friends on this list who we had
shared their contact details and email template. Unfortunately, with most of
them, either the conversations have hit a roadblock or the service providers
have not at all responded. We are figuring out other ways of getting these
resolved.

[AI] Amanda Morris writes in the NyTimes: For blind internet users, the fix can be worse than the flaws

2022-07-18 Thread avinash shahi
Accessibility experts, however, would prefer that companies not use
automated accessibility overlays. Ideally, they say, organizations
would hire and train full-time employees to oversee these efforts. But
doing so can be difficult.
Patrick Perdue, a radio enthusiast who is blind, at his home in Queens
on June 22, 2022. Perdue says he used to shop online for radio
equipment before his preferred website’s new accessibility software
made it harder — not easier — to navigate. (Don Brodie/The New York

In line with the focus area of the present round of initiative on the banking
sector, I would like to flag the absolute accessibility disaster that the Axis
Bank Axis Mobile android application is. From signing up to using the app basic
features, it is very disfunctional.
When I had taken an individual initiative of communicating with them, they got
back saying its the problem of the 3rd party app(TalkBack) rather than any
issue at their end, efferts at telling them that TalkBack is not a 3rd party
app and that it is an integral part of Android app, and the problem is at the
Axis end wherein they didn't follow Google Accessibility Norms, didn't receive
a response. I have used mobile applications from 9 banks, the Axis one has to
be the absolute worst.
Hope this initiative can reach them, and make them have a dose of reality.

Re: [AI] Minutes - Weekly meeting on July 16, 2022

2022-07-18 Thread Mission Accessibility
Hello Ketan,
Thankyou for your mail.
We have been working with SonyLiv and Hotstar, the 2 most popular OTT
platforms in India since the past few months.
SonyLiv
As per our last telecon, they claim to have made a few remediations in
their latest release. Basis our request, they have agreed to share a
list of these remediations over email. As soon as we receive, would be
happy to share.

Hotstar
We conducted a sensitization workshop for their team in February 2022,
attended by about 180 people. Basis the latest communication, they are
in process of making remediations but would take time. We shall update
when get a concrete revert from them.
