Re: [AI] need of an OCR software that recognize and translates tamil alphabets

2023-07-06 Thread Yamuna Jivana dasa (Yogan)

Hi,
Is KIBO scanner freeware, a once-off paid product or a subscription service?
I will never take subscription service software - I find those a severe
nuicense on one's financial life. Fortunately we are still living in a world
that has not *yet* migrated only to subscription-based software. But
unfortunately I think we're getting there. Hopefully I would have left this
world by then, and would have left this blind body too!

KIBO is a good option, it transalates from most Indian languages into
English. The quality of OCR is very good and scanning is quite easy. I
am scanning many books, both in Kannada and English. Since the scanner
is in the position of a table lamp, the book can be positioned
normally , scanning both pages in a single exposure. Entire book can
be scanned in a stretch. You can download or keep it in cloud
storage.Intially it scans in image file and then process either text
format orin word. NVDA can read the scanned books in Indian languages.
KIBO scanner and software are easy to operate by blind persons.

Dear Aishwarya,

Do you have any information regarding individually buying the smart vision
glasses? I live in U.P and unable to attend the event but am interested to try
these glasses.

If others on the list have any inputs about these glasses; if they are worth
buying, please comment. Do they come any closer to the EnVision glasses given
the point that these cost 10th of the latter.

RE: [AI] Installing Operating System from bootable disk

2023-07-06 Thread Vedprakash Sharma
Lately, I bought a Lenovo laptop with windows 11 and office 365 included. As I got the machine, I started it. Narrator was working and giving instructions. I followed the instructions. It configured my wi fi connection, installed windows from an online source, activated office 365 online and also got me to a link where I could install office 21.After all this, it asked, “would you like to continue using narrator?” I chose yes button and installed jaws also. Sent from Mail for Windows From: Yamuna Jivana dasa (Yogan)Sent: 06 July 2023 03:49 PMTo: accessindia@accessindia.org.inSubject: Re: [AI] Installing Operating System from bootable disk Hi,It is not possible to load a screen-reader into memory early enough in the boot process to make the bios accessible via screen-reader. Sighted help will be required to select boot order priority from Bios. However once you are booting from the install media such as a bootable memory stick or Windows DVD and the functional component has been loaded into RAM, at that point you should be able to press Control Windows Enter to load Narrator. At the appropriate point during the installer, you may choose to partition your drives in preparation for installing Windows onto it.Note this is a very basic partition interface and does not allow you to do power-user style partition of your disks, such as for dual-boot Etc, at least not to my knowledge, but I don't think you are asking about that anyway. As far as reading the Bios, if you are daring enough you could use something like the Optacon to read the physical display! I don't know if those things still exist today but they did when I was growing up in the 80s and 90s. It's a camera which you could place against the screen, and whatever text is under the lenz will be translated into a finger pad of tiny pins which vibrate rapidly to reveal the shape of the printed text under your finger of the other hand. As one hand moves around the camera, the other hand's pointing finger feels the text as it changes. Very cumbersome but would be interesting to try if those things still exist! Any dinosaurs like me on this list? I do hope so!  Sorry for going off-topic! 2023-07-06 Thread Mission Accessibility
Kanchan Ma'am, thank you for starting this conversation. I think Minar's
inputs are very helpful but we'll have to break it down for the court. Make
it really easy for them to understand the key issues and their real-world
impact. Can we explain some of these issues in simple English?

If you already have a scanner, try Kibo Desk website.
You have to buy monthly subscription. If you scan and upload the pages
it will convert the text in Tamil or any Indian language.

Re: [AI] need of an OCR software that recognize and translates tamil alphabets

2023-07-06 Thread Niranjanraj Urs
KIBO is a good option, it transalates from most Indian languages into
English. The quality of OCR is very good and scanning is quite easy. I
am scanning many books, both in Kannada and English. Since the scanner
is in the position of a table lamp, the book can be positioned
normally , scanning both pages in a single exposure. Entire book can
be scanned in a stretch. You can download or keep it in cloud
storage.Intially it scans in image file and then process either text
format orin word. NVDA can read the scanned books in Indian languages.
KIBO scanner and software are easy to operate by blind persons.

Hi Kanchan mam,

There are several issues. Screen reader users are not able to

listed high severity issues following need quicker resolution.

• Tab indexing is inappropreate

• Select elements are not accessible
• Form element does not have an implicit (wrapped)
• Form element does not have an explicit
• aria-label attribute does not exist or is empty
• aria-labelledby attribute does not exist, references elements that
do not exist or references elements that are empty
• Element has no title attribute
• Element's default semantics were not overridden with role="none" or
role="presentation"
• List item does not have a , parent element without a role,
or a role="list"
• listitem are not used semantically
• Focusable content should have tabindex='-1' or be removed from the DOM

 Hi Aniruddh,

 Data Scientist Eligibility
A bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as computer science,
statistics, mathematics, or engineering, is usually required for
entry-level positions. Talking about the data scientist requirements,
some companies may prefer candidates with a Master's or a PhD in a
related field. One should know coding and how peace of code will work
 when executed.

Anirudh,

It may take more time for you to understand the stuff and slightly
longer to find a suitable opportunity but it is definitely doable.
Post the completion of your course, you may not be able to streight
away start with a big company i.e. Accenture/ MS/ Google but once you
have some experience, it would hold greater value than a so-called
maths/ statistics degree.

Hi sir,

Can help you with a talking Preinstallation Environment image which
can help you install windows completely on your own.
Do give me a call over the weekend and I will be happy to help.
Note: these don't necessarily work streight away on modern-day
machines due to secure boot enabled by default.

Cheers,

Re: [AI] Installing Operating System from bootable disk

2023-07-06 Thread Yamuna Jivana dasa (Yogan)

Hi,
It is not possible to load a screen-reader into memory early enough in the
boot process to make the bios accessible via screen-reader. Sighted help
will be required to select boot order priority from Bios.
However once you are booting from the install media such as a bootable
memory stick or Windows DVD and the functional component has been loaded
into RAM, at that point you should be able to press Control Windows Enter to
load Narrator.
At the appropriate point during the installer, you may choose to partition
your drives in preparation for installing Windows onto it.
Note this is a very basic partition interface and does not allow you to do
power-user style partition of your disks, such as for dual-boot Etc, at
least not to my knowledge, but I don't think you are asking about that
anyway.

As far as reading the Bios, if you are daring enough you could use something
like the Optacon to read the physical display! I don't know if those things
still exist today but they did when I was growing up in the 80s and 90s.
It's a camera which you could place against the screen, and whatever text is
under the lenz will be translated into a finger pad of tiny pins which
vibrate rapidly to reveal the shape of the printed text under your finger of
the other hand. As one hand moves around the camera, the other hand's
pointing finger feels the text as it changes. Very cumbersome but would be
interesting to try if those things still exist! Any dinosaurs like me on
this list? I do hope so!

Sorry for going off-topic! That's my irresistable urge as always.

Is there any accessible way by which I can install windows or any

Re: [AI] inputs required on data science as a career option for the blind

2023-07-06 Thread Minar Singh
Hi Aniruddh,

Data Scientist Eligibility
A bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as computer science,
statistics, mathematics, or engineering, is usually required for
entry-level positions. Talking about the data scientist requirements,
some companies may prefer candidates with a Master's or a PhD in a
related field. One should know coding and how peace of code will work
when executed.

[AI] inputs required on data science as a career option for the blind

2023-07-06 Thread anirudh rao
dear friends out there,

a general research on the internet confirms that one can be a data
scientist being blind.

I am a person with a general interest in reading, research, interpreting
and analyzing data.

I have a post-graduation in English and a moderate knowledge of coding too.

Although I have a strong desire to explore the field of data science, I do
not have a Masters Certification in computers or data related fields.

Can I perceive data science being from humanities and being blind in India?

If so, please provide any resources and contact that you think could be
helpful for me in this journey.
