[AI] DoB mismatch error on Railway ID card while online booking

2024-03-01 Thread Ravi Paul

Hey all,
Hope you are all doing well.

Pretty much as the subject says, the portal gives an error stating that
there is a mismatch between the date of birth - although it does not
specify whose while I am trying to book ticket on the website. Just to
get it out of the way, the dates of  birth (both of mine and the
escorts) are correct, and I have also tried various combinations just in
case. But unfortunately with little success.

Any help?

Thank you in advance,

Regards,

Ravi

Well, nothing in this world is completely inclusive or exclusionary for all.
The radio is indeed non-exclusionary for the visually impaired, but it
does exclude the hearing impaired, doesn't it?

Sounds like you're doing great work out there. That's very nice. If you would
like to try recording the book that would be great, only thing is I cannot
finance it. It will prove useful to many blind people I am sure though. The TTS
version is not perfect as you will hear from the files I've sent so you could
try recording them as real human voice.

Let me know if you would like to do this as a service to the community project

[AI] U.S. Offers New Rules to Help Air Travelers in Wheelchairs

2024-03-01 Thread vadhimoolam
U.S. Offers New Rules to Help Air Travelers in Wheelchairs.

By Mark Walker. The Transportation Department said the proposed regulations
would make it easier to hold airlines accountable for mishandling
passengers' wheelchairs.

The Biden administration announced on Thursday that it was proposing new
regulations for how airlines must treat passengers in wheelchairs, an effort
aimed at improving air travel for people with disabilities..

Under the proposal, damaging or delaying the return of a wheelchair would be
an automatic violation of an existing federal law that bars airlines from
discriminating against people with disabilities. The Transportation
Department said that change would make it easier for the agency to penalize
airlines for mishandling wheelchairs.

The proposed regulations would also require more robust training for workers
who physically assist disabled passengers or handle their wheelchairs.

'There are millions of Americans with disabilities who do not travel by
plane because of inadequate airline practices and inadequate government
regulation, but now we are setting out to change that,' Transportation
Secretary Pete Buttigieg said in a statement. 'This new rule would change
the way airlines operate to ensure that travelers using wheelchairs can
travel safely and with dignity.

For people in wheelchairs, flying can be difficult and uncomfortable, and
airline mishaps can make for an even more agonizing experience. More than
11,000 wheelchairs and scooters were mishandled by airlines last year,
according to data reported to the Transportation Department.

The proposed regulations add to earlier moves by the Biden administration
intended to improve the flying experience for disabled travelers. In 2022,
the Transportation Department published a bill of rights for airline
passengers with disabilities. Last year, the agency finalized new
regulations to require more commercial aircraft to have accessible
bathrooms.

Senator Tammy Duckworth of Illinois, a former Army helicopter pilot who uses
a wheelchair after losing both her legs in the Iraq war, noted that airlines
had previously fought unsuccessfully against a rule that requires them to
disclose the number of wheelchairs and scooters they mishandle. Ms.
Duckworth said that since airlines began reporting those numbers several
years ago, she had noticed improvements at airports around the country.

Ms. Duckworth, a Democrat and the chairwoman of the Senate Commerce
Committee's aviation subcommittee, said she hoped the proposed regulations
would lead to a higher level of accountability for airlines. But she added
that Congress should take steps to protect the policies that the Biden
administration is moving to put in place.

'This rule could be overturned by a future Department of Transportation
under a different administration,' said Ms. Duckworth, who attended an event
at the White House on Thursday where Mr. Buttigieg discussed the new
proposal.

At the event, Carl Blake, the chief executive of Paralyzed Veterans of
America, which had petitioned the Transportation Department to develop new
regulations to improve the boarding and deplaning process for disabled
passengers, said he had never met a member of his organization who flew and
whose wheelchair had not been damaged at one point or another.

Mr. Blake said the problem urgently needed to be addressed, and he
emphasized the importance of using the new regulations to hold airlines
accountable. 'A rule with no enforcement is no rule at all,' he said.

In a statement, a spokeswoman for Airlines for America, a trade group
representing the country's largest air carriers, said that airlines had been
making strides to improve the flying experience for disabled passengers
through steps like enhancing training for employees.

'U.S. airlines are committed to offering a high level of customer service
and providing a positive and safe flight experience for passengers with
disabilities,' said the spokeswoman, Hannah Walden.

Public comments on the proposed regulations will be accepted for 60 days.
The Transportation Department did not specify a timeline for when the new
measures could be finalized.. PHOTO: The proposed regulations would require
additional training for workers. (PHOTOGRAPH BY SCOTT MCINTYRE FOR THE NEW
YORK TIMES) This article appeared in print on page B5..

Re: [AI] Customized Signature Guide for Visually Impaired

Sir,
The customized signature guide with all alphabets of the first name is
created by a person in Varanasi.
However, since I haven't used it personally, therefore I won't be able
to comment upon its usefulness I'm afraid.

2024-03-01 Thread Rajib Das
Good morning all,
Thank you guys for your response.
I know, it is a small thing but still, I want to know these are associate
with blind people or not?
So, I want to know your point of view on this. My concern is that I know
this phrases are used metaphorically,
But are these phrases not implies that a blind person believe on something
or someone without thinking anything, without understanding and without
judging?

Please note: I don't want to disturb anyone and don't want any controversy.
I want to know that the actual meaning. Or if you use what do you mean by
these phrases?

Once again, if I am in wrong direction you are free to correct me.

Re: [AI] What do you think?

2024-03-01 Thread Aman Preet Singh
Hi! As per my thinking or sense, these both phrases are not related to the blind persons anywhere, any side. I try to explain the meanings of these phrases, as per my information or as I hear about this. Love is blind means, when somebody loves someone without thinking without understanding without seeing anything. When you love someone, you have no sense to think or see anything after that, love does not see anything, love just love, that’s why people say about this that is love is blind. Don’t believe blindly means, do not believe on someone without verifying, investigating or without thinking and understanding. It means at same as I mentioned above, that’s why people say don’t believe blindly on someone. Please note these are my own thinkings and understanding, I don’t know I am correct or not. Thanks.Sent from my iPhoneOn Mar 1, 2024, at 11:52 PM, Rajib Das wrote:Dear all,I hope this mail finds you well.I am a blind person. Re: [AI] What do you think?

2024-03-01 Thread ishan sangi
Dear Sir ,

Disclaimer:
While I don't support any actions that might offend or disrespect people
with disabilities, I'm just answering your question in a clear, respectful,
and informative way, With my limited knowledge. My goal is to provide
information based on my personal Experience. If anything I say
unintentionally causes you any offense, please accept my sincere apologies.

Now answering to the question asked

I think instead of getting caught up on small details, we should focus on
bigger goals and a clear vision for the future.
For example, the word "blindly" often describes carelessness, like saying
"don't trust someone blindly" which means don't trust everyone without
understanding them. Similarly, in technical terms like "blind spot," it
means a place you can't see from a certain angle.
However, it's important to remember that we sometimes misuse words related
to disabilities as insults. Examples include "Are you crazy?" or "Are you
dumb?" In Hindi, we might say "tujhe Dikhta Nahi Kya?" or "Andha Hai Kya?".
Sometimes, words like " pagal" are even used to describe someone innocent
or naive, like "Tujhe Itni Si Baat Samajh Nahi Aa Rahi Tu Pagal Hai Kya?"
(You don't understand this? Are you mad?)
While I understand your concerns, changing this kind of ingrained language
takes time.
Remember the meme "ye Sub Kya Dekhna Pad raha Hai Acha Hai Mein Andha Hoon"
(It's good I'm blind so I don't have to see all this chaos)? This popular
meme, featuring actor Akshay Kumar, shows how casually such words are used.
It's important to understand that everyday phrases like "let's see" or "see
" or "sea this" or "can't you sea " or " You must have seen her face" are
common, and the goal is to build a more inclusive and friendly environment
for everyone, including people with disabilities.
I've even met people who become overly cautious with their words when
speaking to me , which some time unintentionally makes me feel excluded.
Instead of focusing on these small points, I believe we should focus on the
bigger picture: creating a more inclusive, friendly, and aware society.
For example, phrases like "Apne Pairo pe Khade Hona" (to stand on one's own
feet) can be used to describe someone with strong determination, regardless
of their physical abilities.
Similarly, I believe using words like "blind" in phrases like "love is
blind" or "don't trust blindly" are used metaphorically and don't directly
target any specific community.
It's important to be mindful of our words and their impact, but also
understand that changing ingrained language takes time and collective
effort.
These are just my personal thoughts and don't represent any organization
I'm associated with.
I hope this is clear and easier to understand!
Once again sincere apologies if I have Hurt sentiments of anyone on this
list

Hi Mukesh,
Are you able to do this pro bono?
Sounds like you're doing great work out there. That's very nice. If you would
like to try recording the book that would be great, only thing is I cannot
finance it. It will prove useful to many blind people I am sure though. The TTS
version is not perfect as you will hear from the files I've sent so you could
try recording them as real human voice.

Let me know if you would like to do this as a service to the community project
and I'll gladly send the relevant materials.
Thanks sincerely,

Dear Access India members,

I have received many requests yesterday for the computer literacy course
privately from list members who wrote to me by E-mail. Instead of replying to
everyone individually, I am sending here publically a link to download an MP3
version of my book.

I am grateful to Bhawani Shankar Verma for suggesting the “Text Allowed”
software which I used for converting the documents to audio.

Please note that while this recording was created using IVona Text to speech,
Sally, an American English voice, the quality is not perfectly human like, but
I believe it is good enough for understanding the content.

Click here to download the Zip file from my Dropbox.

After downloading the Zip file, you may need help to extract all the MP3 files
from it, to copy them to some sort of audio player such as a phone, computer or
MP3 player, so that someone who never used a computer before can listen to the
course as an audio file and follow along. It will help if you show the student
how to play and pause, seek back and forwards through the audio file, change to
the previous and next audio file, Etc to make their learning experience
interactive.

Also, ensure the student has NVDA or Jaws installed and working and have the
text-to-speech synthesizer at a comfortable listening speed for the student
before they get started with this learning program. The course teaches both
using Jaws and NVDA, and the student can choose the lessons to listen to

or to the Browsing the Internet section, then ensure those applications are
also installed on the computer. Browsing is trained using Google Chrome, but
can also work with Edge and some others.

All the best to those wishing to learn via this course.

[AI] Book Announcement: Piecemeal An Experience with Blindness by Sangita Chhabra

2024-03-01 Thread NAB Delhi Helpline
The digital library, National Association for the Blind Delhi, supported by
Spirotech, is delighted to announce the availability of the book Piecemeal
an Experience with Blindness by Sangita Chhabra.

What is fear? An emotion, or a feeling that makes us squirm, and makes us
feel uncomfortable and diminished or reduced in a certain way.

Fear is a natural tendency and it is found in all living beings.

To a small extent, it helps us stay safe; it helps us protect our body and
live safely in our environment.

The purpose of this book is to give a comparison of seeing this world with
and without eyes.

I saw the world with eyes and also, without them. I have had this
opportunity to be in a situation where I still remember how it felt to be
sighted.

The recording of this book has been specially made for our visually
impaired friends in an audio-accessible format.
