All you require are the following: 1. active Online account facility with transaction rights 2. The account number, account name and IFSC code of the person/ firm you want to transfer money. (IFSC code is available on the cheque book) You can also pay all your bill using the bill pay facility on the online banking. Do call me at 9535767654. Re: [AI] IS visual impirement or blindness symbol of ignourance?
The society has been conditioned to think in a certain manner. our opinion is a function of our contextual reality. It is important that you and each one of us stand up and talk and try to educate people who do not understand. Some of your voices will fall on deaf ears, but my personal experience say that 8 out of 10 will listen and change. In fact many of them will then start speaking in your language. Re: [AI] Now engineering college for visually challenged too
Personally, I would also not want a special college. i think the college will ultimately have to concour with Renuka's view. I am not sure how many visually impaired students will like to really want to enter a college especially for them. as a matter of fact, a large number seats for disabled students are unutilized at Delhi university and other colleges. However, i must also appreciate the institute to take this step. As a step forward, this college should also take a very important role in supporting visually impaired engineering students from other institutes. The support could be in form of accessible materials, approaching profs. in case one does not get clarity in own college, and so on. Best wishes to the institute. Re: [AI] Should you reveal disability during the job search?
Hey folks, Really appreciate the views here. I think we should have these discussion on such sensitive issues regularly. My views on the same: 1. Your resume should talk about your qualification, experience, achievements and other skills. Do not mention about your disability because your resume is screened by many ppl in the chain like the recruitor, consultants, managers etc etc. Not all ppl in the chain will be sensitive to the disability and having disability on the resume may trigger negative vibes . Remember, the objective is to sell your skill to suit the job requirement here and get a process shortlist. 2. When you have an interview / process call, do make it point that the concern authorities like H.R, are aware about the same before you reach for the interview. Here is when you may want to ask for any reasonable accomodation as for many jobs you may be required to attend for multiple rounds and may have a case or something like that. Not having your accomodation like screen reader, scribes may hamper your chances. 3. in case there is a application form, asking about disability, do not hide. By adopting this approach, I ensured that I avoid unwarranted judgements of various ppl in the chain who does not really matter for the job. However, by informing just before the interview, I ensure that I do not hide and also may request for any accomodations if required. At the same time, my true stakeholders are duly made aware of the same. In case the company is not really open, they will let you know at this stage only thereby avoiding any embaresement, and time investment. The above may not be in congruance with some of your views, however, the affore approach has proven to be quite effective for me. Open to your views on the same. You want job, and the kind of lack of awareness we have in India, there are very few employers who would call you for interview after seeing disability mentioned on your CV. Moreover, I wonder why do we need to mention disability on CV? I find no reason at all until I’m able to perform equally with my other sighted colleagues. Many of the sighted folks have health problems like heart issues, diabetes etc, and like its not necessary for them to reveal their health problems on CV, it should be same in disability too. The purpose of CV is to answer “how able you are”, rather “how disable you are”. So in my humble advise, mention your skillset on your resume, not disability. its just a physical difference, which does not matter at all till you are able enough to perform the job you are appearing for. The road ahead from submitting resume is already tuff, I find it unwise to make it tuffer by yourself by committing unnecessary mistakes. Regards, Prateek agarwal. Director, Daedal technovations pvt. [AI] Reservation benefits for milder disability
Hi Friends, Need your expert advice and opinions on the following point: There are a host of people who may have a disability which is say less than 40% and as per the law, they are not eligible for the reservations in the government jobs and educational instate. Now, some of them are able to get a medical certificate which is either equal to 40% OR MORE AND ARE ABLE TO ENJOY RESERVATION BENEFIT. In the process, many candidates with more severe disability miss out as they are not able to compete with them. In such a scenario, what should be the appropriate action if a person is found guilty especially in the case of milder disability which is less than 40% but has got a certificate of say more than 40% for to secure a job. Should the seat allocated to them for the job or in education institute be withdrawn. Are there any precedence to the same? Also, is the percentage model to determine the disability extent is feasible or there are any alternative in different country. Here, I am not focusing on increasing the reservation percent as a solution as this will remain as a problem in either 3% or 10%. Will look forward to your comment, opinion, reactions on the above. Hi goma, Congratulations for this wonderful achievement. My suggestion to you will be prioritize your preference. Are you looking at making your career in HR or you are undecided? If HR is the answer then go for TISS, if not go for IIM. Trust me, there is nothing better then TISS and XLRI for HR. However, if undecided then IIM will give you a better exposure of multiple domain. One more thing that you may want to consider is the sensitization of faculty and peer group. IIM will give you very competitive and un-co-operative environment. As of today, IIM Bangalore is the only IIM which has an Office Disability Service. Whereas TISS will definitely be much more co-operative and sensitize to needs of visually impaired students. Feel free to call me at 09880359712 and I will be happy to help. Re: [AI] Google Chrome in Indian languages
Is google crome accessible to Jaws? I tried using it in December 2008 and I found it to be inaccessible? What is the group members user experience if at all anyone has used it? Warm regards Ankit Jindal -Original Message- From: accessindia-boun...@accessindia.org.in [mailto:accessindia-boun...@accessindia.org.in] On Behalf Of Renuka Warrier Sent: Sunday, May 31, 2009 9:06 AM To: accessindia@accessindia.org.in Subject: [AI] Google Chrome in Indian languages Date:31/05/2009 URL: http://www.thehindu.com/2009/05/31/stories/2009053154941000.htm Front Page Google Chrome in Indian languages T. Ramachandran It is possible to switch from one language to another KOCHI: Google Chrome is now being offered in many Indian languages, with version 2 of the browser made available for download. The stable version 2 comes in Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Oriya (on Windows Vista alone), Tamil, and Telugu. A Hindi version was available earlier. What this means is that PC users who have Windows Vista as their operating system should be able to easily select the browser's interface language by using the language-setting options. It should also be possible to switch from one language to another by changing the language option and re-launching the browser. The users can then see the browser menus and other associated content in one of the Indian languages (or any of the other available language options). Recent phenomenon With Windows XP, the Indian language options are fewer, and font rendering might be an issue, if the user's system is not primed for it. Asked about this, a Google spokesperson said: Creation and consumption of Indian language content on the web is a relatively recent phenomenon. In some cases, the fonts get installed by default, and if not, Google tries to provide installation or downloading option through all our products. Chrome was launched only in September 2008, but it has garnered a small share of the browser market. In December last, a Google blog post claimed that in just 100 days, the initial (beta) version had built up a base of over 10 million active users worldwide. Apart from its availability in several languages, speed was one feature on which there has been increased focus in the new version. Improvements had been made to get the browser to load up and render pages faster, Google claimed. Stability is also another improvement being highlighted, with the fixing of over 300 bugs that caused crashes since launch. In the new release, Google also referred to the form autofill option, which enabled users to fill up form fields without having to input the same information in each instance. However, this browser is not packed with as many features as some of the others are. And it might not fit your bill, if you are a heavy user of the kind of add-ons that are possible with Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer. A modern platform This has a lot to do with how Google has conceived the browser. It was not just a browser but also a modern platform for web pages and applications. The browser is based on open source software. It has been developed with Webkit, an open source browser engine, which was originally deployed for the Safari browser. The rendering of Javascript, a scripting language widely used in the Web environment, was also speeded up, Google said. As for the release of the stable version 2 of the browser, Google itself said it did not give much weightage to version numbers, and these were mainly a metric to help us keep track of changes internally. For those already using older versions, the update ought to happen automatically. To unsubscribe send a message to accessindia-requ...@accessindia.org.in with the subject unsubscribe. Re: [AI] subscribing news groups.
One of the feature which I found very interesting to read news and keep myself updated is RSS. These days most of the news website has something called RSS, or feeds which enables anyone to access the latest news in that website. You can configure the same in your MS outlook 2007. The news item reflects as a mail in your RSS folder. You do not have any limit to the number of RSS that you can configure in your outlook. The mail will have a very brief about the article and will provide a link to take you to that website. Even the Indian websites has these features. Personally, I have subscribe to the Hindu, Business world, Business standard Charted. The feature is free of cost. [AI] Jaws working with Windows Live messenger
Hi Friends, Yesterday, I have updated my system with the latest Windows Live messenger. Well, I have mixed reaction for it. One of my biggest problem of accessing my hotmail mails on the web based server is now resolved, where it allows you to receive and send mails from an outlook express like application with similar keyboard commands. However, they have changed the chat interface, where the key board command for reading the last messages does not work like it did with earlier ones. I have to route PC to Jaws and use arrows key to read the chat, which is not as convenient as it was earlier. Can the list members help us with their experience of using the latest windows messenger chat and do we have any scripts where we can make the chat window as accessible as the earlier versions.
