Dear Vijay,
Congratulations for clearing UGC net in political science from my side
too.

Submit all the required documents to UGC to enable you to obtain the
certificate.
Make necessary entries in your service register after attaining the
certificate, which will help you to be promoted as lecturer in
political science shortly.

HI Kapil and all:

Regarding SBI netbanking's calendar:

press enter on the text which says graphic calendar
calendar must be open at the bottom of page
just go to bottom of page.
press shift c one or two time, you will find the field of month and year.
later you can select date by simply hitting enter on required date.

Just for trial: sometimes date list can be open by pressing enter and then
using space and then by arrow key to go through all the list. (this is for
other net banking other than SBI)

Hi
This is the work around whenever I encounter such calendar page.
Towards the top of the pages, there are usually bunch of links. They
would be having the and signs. Usually there are multiple of such
symbols.
Click on any of those links and you will see the date in the calendar
change, The change may happen on the month or year.

The sign is to reduce the value and the increase.
The dates appear on a table and after changing the month and year you
should click the date field.

This way, it becomes ok to use.

Friends thanks for your responses...
But I am looking for the answer whether any other bank asks the same
captcha security code to be solved. Please share your experiences...

ToKasia:
There is already three level security in my bank's internet banking system
viz.,

a) login password
b) transaction password and,
c) one time password (OTP) which is sent to the customer's mobile at
the time of transaction.

To Bhawani Bhai:
Please go ahead with filing a PIL with the help of any of delhi based
NGOs, ask me if any support is needed.

To Hozifa:
Your idea sounds good but we can not use it while transacting through
bank's intra-net site while sitting in office (I am myself employee of
Allahabad Bank).
The another idea may be to introduce alternative sound captcha option
for VI users as I have seen it on many standard sites.

Friends, kindly revert with your experiences whether other banks also
use captcha security or not. After findings I am going to write to my
bank's HO and CBS office to consider its removal (if other banks do
not use it) or alternative sound option (in case if it is prevalent in
all bank's internet banking).

Dear Friends,
I use Allahabad Bank's internet banking. Hitherto, it was working
perfectly,
but recently they have added Captcha Security at its login page and to
solve
it, we either need to take sighted assistance or use service of
websites

like webvism.

Specially it becomes difficult while transacting through bank's
intranet

site. Every time I am compelled to take the help of any of my
colleagues.

Another fact is that I never trust third party services while
transacting
through internet banking, but here I have to take the help of webvism,
which
in my opinion, a compromise with the security of bank account.

So, friends please share with me whether any other bank asks to solve
captcha image for transacting via internet banking?
Based on your responses I will prepare a strong case for VI users and
represent it to the Bank CBS Office and Higher authorities in Head
Office
for removing it from bank's site.

Hi Shantanu,

I've done PhD in management. I also cleared UGC NET in the subject.
Many universities have UGC NET as a criterian for admission into PhD.
Some other universities conduct their own entrance tests. But it is
desirable to have UGC NET before getting into PhD. You may get JRF as
well. So, PhD programme depends mainly on the standard of university,
fellowship, place of your living, etc. Do feel free to have a chat
with me on the subject.

Dear All,

I am writing this post from outside Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital.

Not a single disabled person was/is admitted here.

I went inside the casualty and met the IO Incharge as well as the CMO.
According to them 5 or 6 people had been brought in with minor injuries
and they were sent home after basic first aid.

According to the senior police officers, they had to resort to a mild

Your 2nd point is not quite correct.
We estimate the disabled population to be around 70 million or about 5-6%
of

the population of India. Unfortunately and for whatever reason the latest
census has revealed that we are around 26million. So we are still less
than

3% of the population.
Therefore a reservation of 5% is really good.

The next point of ending it back to the Public may or may not be a good
idea but it is an expensive and time consuming matter.
I am looking at the draft law to understand its implication and will
revert

when I have more concrete thoughts on it.
Please read the law for yourself and understand it before accepting what
others say to you. The next 2 months are crucial for the Disability
sector.

Dear Friends,
to my knowledge, this new PWD bill is not a strong or effective one
because after going through some portions and after having discussions
with other disability groups, i came to understand that some of the
disabilities are not given full independance with reference to shaping
or deciding their rights.
moreover, 5% for whole disabled community is not an appreciatable
percentage when we take even the rough sensus into account.
so in my opinion, this bill should be again refered to the public
forum and should make necessary changes in line with UNCRPD
thanks

I am a person with disability. After years of hard work, I am now an
international Para-Athlete representing India. There are 70 million
people with disabilities in India.

For the first time in Indian history, people with disabilities would
have had a chance to get equal opportunities to work and live if the
Disabilities Rights Bill had been passed.

shireen, the Bill was to be passed in the winter session of the
Parliament. But the Parliament session ended abruptly on 18th
December, just before the Bill was tabled.

I started this petition on Change.org, telling the Minister of
Parliamentary Affairs Kamal Nath to live up to the promise the

We want him to ensure that the Parliament will be reconvened in

Subject: [AI] delhi university, new roster, appointments, and ph

Hello list members, I, Manish Sharma, have100 % visually impaired, have
been teaching in the department of history, swami Shraddhanand College
since 17 July, 2006. Today, I want to bring the problems in 200 point
Roster and appointment process in relation to my college in particular and
university in general in your notice, which are as follows:

Delhi University, colleges are going to appoint large number of ad hoc
teachers according to 200 point roster which was implemented in 2007. The
Process of permanent appointments is supposed to commence soon under the
new roster. On 3000 -- 4000 vacant posts, appointments are proposed to be
done which is roughly equivalent to 40 % of entire teaching posts. In
order to implement 200 point roster, colleges haveput 100 point roster,
particularly for appointment of PWD, in cold storage.

PH candidates are being not appointed on ad hoc seats. University approved
200 point roster of different colleges does not mention PH'S appointments.

Allow me to give live example of my college i.e. Swami Shraddhanand
college. According to 200 point roster, Appointment process on ad hoc
seats in college has been begun from mid-December onwards. College is
conceding that total teaching strength in Shraddhanand College is more
than 168 teachers. Anybody can view the roster of Shraddhanand College on
its website.

Of 168 appointed teachers (both permanent and ad hoc), 6 disable were to
be appointed. Shraddhanand College has appointed only 4 disable teachers
thus far. When I brought this fact in principal's knowledge , he and
administrative officer, who has made college's roster also, told me that
PH will be appointed on 201^st post.[my protest is attached

If you people remember that in the movement of disability rights in Delhi
University, struggle for implementing 100 point roster had been important
for the rights of disabled. As a result of this movement, Delhi university
colleges appointed large number of disable teachers. Regrettably,
appointed PH teachers have become complacent and the focus of this
successful movement has diverted to other perks like house etc.

We must understand that for us to be able to successfully assert our
presence in the university it is mandatory that 3 reservations in teaching
and non-teaching posts are successfully filled.Regards, Manish
Sharma.

To

The Principal,

Swami Shraddhanand College,

(University of Delhi)

Alipur, Delhi-110036.

Sir,

Please accept this as my formal note of dissent in capacity of teacher in
charge, department of History, Swami Shraddhanand College. The reason for
my note of dissent and refusal to participate in the appointment of one
ad-hoc post in the department of history since the process violates the
provision of disability act and Supreme Court orders on reservations are
detailed as under:

1)In spite of the fact that the college administration is aware that I am
a visually challenged person they did not provide me with letters, etc.
associated with the interview in format accessible to the blind viz.
Braille or computerised soft copy, the is in violation of provisions of
the disability act.

2)In matters pertaining to appointments it is legally mandated that the
roster is displayed in public domain. In spite of my protest letters
pointing out the lapse of the college authorities on this ground the
college finally displayed the roster on the college website only
yesterday, 23/12/2013, afternoon, i.e. after the interview for
appointments to teaching posts in various departments of the college had
already commenced.

3)The roster has incorrect information pertaining to the department of
history. It indicates that the department has four ad-hoc posts before the
current 200 point post based roster was made. This is incorrect. Our
department has only three legally appointed ad-hoc teachers. The fourth
was illegally accommodated by you since in the academic semester July
2013-Dec 2013, as per the master time table of the college we had workload
for only three ad-hoc teachers. Importantly, by attempting to
retrospectively legalise an illegal appointment made in the previous
semester you have rendered the 200 points roster prepared for the current
semester i.e. January 2014-June 2014 incorrect and illegal. If two posts
are shown to be appointed, as is legally required, the roster for
appointments to be made in the college will change.

4)In the limited time that was available for me to peruse the roster for
teaching posts, it is faulty on several

[AI] article on delhi university

Cell. No. 9811174243
hi to all,

compelled to mention of the article of which the link is pasted below.
I urge you all to have a look at it and express your views..

through this article the writer has just tried to appritiate the
efforts of university and to speak good words about them. no efforts
were made to mention about the serious efforts made by the students of
the university. at one point of time, by their own selves and at other
point of time, under the banner of sambhavana. it is sad to give
whole of the credit to eoc or the university administration for
changes being brought. whether it is the case of the syllabus of the
foundation course for the blind students of the university, those all
changes were brought after the intervention made by sambhavana in form
of case.

I agree that the moves of university are appritiable but I also label
them as charity as no serious efforts for the employment of disabled
students are made. there are various matters lying ahead.

As far as salary account is concerned, please check with your employer about
options of banks as they generally have tie up with a few banks.

If they have SBI in that list, you can just use the same.

 Hi there,

I've heard about talking thermometre, talking watch. I think the
availability of both the products can be checked from Saksham.
I've also heard about Penfriend labler which is used for identifying
anything including colours with the help of RFID stiggers which are
 washable
 .
I think further details can be gathered from Barier Break or Karishma
 Enterprises. Not sure.

 Hi,
 According to my knowledge,
Pooch.com won't send automatic messages regarding any topic.
 If you need cricket updates,
type cricket news and send it to 0922119
 or mention the teams.
 For instance,
 India vs Srilanka

 Hope this helps

I am of the opinion that world is different for a sighted and blind. The way
a blind can understand another blind, a sighted cann’t. A little example, if
my capsloc key on laptop is not working while using jaws as expected, how
big it is a problem for me, my fellow blind can understand. I believe mental
compatibility is a must between two life partners. So that both could
understand each other, if I want some one to just take care of me, I should
better higher a maid. A blind girl could be an excilent choice for a VI
person. I know many cuppels in Pakistan who are blind and living happally.

There was a time when VH boys and girls were sorry to say but like

exposure and technological developement, new opportunities r coming and we r

A servant who can do ruteen work? Or a life patner whom u can share

Remember m saying about arrange marridges. Our focus is eyes, and there is

In addition to this, mostly visually impaired or partially sighted girls
believe that a blind boy or man cannot take proper care of her and perhaps
her life is not secured with a blind guy. But I appreciate, some of females
do not want to marry with a sighted man even though they get the opportunity
to do so.
I may write more on this soon, as I am engaged with some other work

Yes, Agreed with Bhawani sir.
In fact, if totally blind women have to choose among totally blind,
partially blind and sighted man, they also give priority to sighted
and partially man over totally blind
This trend is general, but some blind from both genders prefer own
peers mates over any considerations, that is exception.
All depends where both genders stand at maritable time on
educational/economic fronts.
moreover, there are many cases where after experiencing deception from
sighted/partially partners, both make up their minds to patch up with
totally blind partners.
Let me share my own experience to substantiate my view.
During my initial graduation days, heartbeat of my left heart used to
beat at extranormal pace for one very inocent, intellegent, soulful ,
lovable, cute blind girl. I was in profound love and was in dellemma
how to propose her to get her side of the story. somehow, i made this
known to her one night on phone, that she was special for me. It was
the time like Tsunami erupted in my body, she respected my feelings
for her, but very gently replied: Avinash: 'I don't think like that, I
am focused for my studies.'
I was jolted for a moment, but she was free to choose his love, aren't
she? I composed myself and pressed cancil button unwillingly.
Days passed, months gone, and now after six years, I got to know that
from close sources that she did disapprove my proposal solely on
ground of fearing how two totally blind will manage together.
Her obsession with partially/sighted is a normal desire of majority of us.
Probably, I will marry to a sighted girl, if another Tsunami doesn't
take place too

Yes, surely VI can be a good husband and a good father.
Relevant factor is also whether your wife is sighted or VI.
It would be better to raise specific tasks and discuss them being done by vi
parents.
For instance, I help my young daughter to get ready for school while her mother
is preparing her tiffin.
Or keep my infant son entertained while his mother is busy minding other
chores.
I also help in the studies of my daughter.
I though surely feel that I can contribute much more to family chores and would
surely benefit from discussion here.

 Dear all,
 Greetings!

I have few confusions regardding the documents to be submitted during
 the Common Interview for LDC.
The members on the list having the confirm knowledge about this then
please throw some light on it, as my interview is on 19th March.

My confusion is that, are we suppose to submit any document in support
of the identification of our scribe that we have used in the written
 examination?
because during the exam we have already submitted the valid documents,
then only we were allowed to sit in the exam.
And if yes, then what all documents we are suppose to take with us?
(only the mark sheet of the candidate, prooving that the scribe was
 eligible or ID proof too?)

Please note that it is no where mentioned in the admit card to submit
any type of scribe's document. I am pasting the exact text written
which is mentione there in context of scribe.

Note: In case of persons with disabilities (PWD) who have availed the
service of a scribe at the time of the examination (CWE clerk2). If
the details /identity of the scribe are in doubt. The candidate may
not be considered for selection process.

As per my understanding, this text describes no where to attach any
 scribe document.
The knowledged members are requested to please give some suggestions.
 Hope to have immidiate response.

 Thanks in advance,
 Ranjana Rana

Well, how can you say that disability is a totally irrelevant factor and we
should not talk or discuss it in marriage or in employment?
Such an avoiding attitude would not serve anybody well.
Let us frankly face it and arrive at a decision based on scientific approach
and our personal preferences.

Generalizing that blind/sighted marriage is more a escort and caretaker
relation and not a life parternership, is really insulting many couples like
myself

When advocating for employment of persons with disabilities we ask the
employer not to look at the disability but to verify the capability of the
candidate to do the job.
Similarly in case of marriages we should not consider or talk about
disability of the partner, only consider mutual compatibility.

I am unhappy that many disabled totally reject the idea of marrying a
disabled even though they may be preaching disabled can do everything.
They should not at least make disability a criteria when advertising for a
partner.

Marriage I think is the last and essential part of rehabilitation of a
person with disability. Arranging marriges for the disabled is a very
difficult and hazardous task and that is why most prominent NGOs are not
taking it up even though they realize the need for it.
We should not scare away people who are taking such steps now. We only have
to make sure that no one is being forced to do anything.
And if anyone has better ideas on how it should be done, he/she should take
the initiative and implement it independently or with any NGO.

In my last 12+ years with the visually impaired community, I have found
marriage for the disabled to be the most challenging task. And I can verify
that women with disability suffer most due to such attitudes and many of
them remain unmarried for life. The men initially try their best to get a
non-disabled or a partner with mild disability and when it is too late have
to make lot of comprimises in selecting the partner. The spouse in those
cases is more of an escort and caretaker than a life partner.

Thanks,
Prashant

it was that single sentence remark of yours that had made me miss understand
your sentiment. Sorry if i have hurt you. With regard to the role of NGO

had forced nobody to be a part of this event, when lions club agreed for
such a proposal, we gave an advertisement, and some people came forward and
the lions people helped them. Where have we committed a mistake here. IN a
society where people are not able to get married on account of their
impairment, coupled with financial and social backwardness, when an NGO
becomes ready to help such people, you all mean that we are to tell them
that this may create a wrong message in the society and we don't want to
promote such a scheme. It inturn means that we prefer such people to remain
bachilors. Even after the encouragement of the NGOs and the assistance from
different quarters of society, Many of our VI friends are sceptical

Even I had queries on the similar lines

1. Do we have any leeway on financing cost for the house? Like
interest rate, processing fee or stamping charges (2% of loan amount)
by the bank?
2. Are we given any support through any urban development Yojnas or
regulations like priority lending, financial inclusion?
3. Honestly big chunk is to be given to the local and state
government; registration, stamp duty etc. etc. Do we have any
concessions there?

Even a per cent saving on the house worth 50 Lakhs is significant
enough, so kindly share your wisdom.

Subject: [AI] A Significant High Court Order on Roster Implementation
From: Viraj Kafle vka...@gmail.com
Date: 19/12/2012 3:57 pm

hello all,

Pasting below a significant Delhi High Court order that mandates
stringent action against Delhi University colleges that are yet to
comply with the roster-based reservation for the appointment of
persons with disabilities. The order is equally crucial in its
clear-cut articulation of the need to put the roster in the public
domain, something on which we often find academic institutions
unjustifiably reluctant.

One can hope that this will go a long way in ensuring much-needed
transparency in the implementation of reservation in appointments and
would benifit not only the disabled, but other vulnerable social
groups as well.

With Regards,

Viraj.

colleges are repeated defaulters in complying with the directions of
the Court. Learned counsel for the University states that there are
five such colleges, viz., institute of Home Economics, Jesus Mary
College, Lady Irwin College, Sri Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce
and Sri Venkeshwara College.

The University may serve a last notice on these colleges to show
compliance failing which the University should forward the names of
these colleges to the UGC for appropriate action to stop their grant.

Learned counsel for respondent No. 1-University states that she will
also examine as to how the Monitoring Committee can be made more

Subject: Re: [AI] Listen guys: DU announces foreign trip for students with
disabilities
From: Vikas Gupta vikas...@gmail.com

Dear Accessindia Group Members:

Excuse me for strong words I am going to use in this mail. Shocking
and disturbing is my experience to read this mail from such a sincere
student like avinash. I request him to overcome his initial enthusiasm
and revisit these announcements as a well-informed research scholar;
and above all, as an awair blind fellow. I also request other members
of this group to think on this matter.
How can we fail to see the larger scenario of Delhi University
continuously denying disabled their rights and only proposing these
measures to sideline are real issues? Have you not read those stories
in the newspapers showing how blind students faced difficulties in
exams? Even in the last meeting of the Faculty of Social Sciences, we
the teachers (where I was the only disabled) agreed to send a letter
to VC pointing out University’s failure to provide accessible
infrastructure as per the legal requirement. How can we disregard the
struggle of blind students of Delhi University that they organized
last year? Are we still living in a world where charity and not the
rights matter?
Secondly, why do our blind friends fail to see what is happening in
general in the field of education where every institution of social
justice is being dismantled and privatized and linked with foreign
funding, which is also evident from the press release that I had sent
in my other mail and to which unfortunately no one at this group
responded as if it does not matter to them. If everything is made
market oriented and dependent on world capital, only disabled are
being given these charities, would it not imply the continuation of
our secondary standard ? Is it not another effort to perpetuate
foreign mania at the cost of denying our fundamental rights?
The teachers and students of Delhi University have been fighting for
long against these changes; and many disabled are also a part of these
struggles. They have even sat on a relay hunger strike which continued
for 53 days. However, the insensitive and undemocratic attitude
continues.
Let us understand the politics of these reforms. They are of course an
indication that public money will be wasted rather than being employed
to fulfill the accessibility requirements. Secondly, they are an
attempt to gain media attention so that the focus may be shifted from
the real grievances that students and teachers have been struggling
against.
Thirdly, in my opinion, it is also an attempt to divide our struggle,
because Sambhavana Organization has prepared a detailed representation
after listening the views of disabled teachers and students and many
of the issues on which VC and OSD have made announcements were already
their but in a different context to enrich disabled academically. They
have been turned over in to something else. Let me give you two
examples. We were demanding for two hostels and we were asking
University to give special or adequate attention to the needs of
disabled researchers enabling them to attend national and
international seminars. You compare these demands with the
announcements and the difference will be apparent.
Though DU VC had himself asked as to prepare a representation, but
when it is submitted in his office, despite repeated reminders, he is
not organizing a proper public meeting. Now he is showing a fudal
benevolent attitude. Do we want this or fulfillment of our rights?
I have a lot to say, but due to a variety of reasons, I am restraining
myself here. Anyone may organize a discussion and I am prepared to
elaborate there what I have written above. Else, I would only respond
to subsequent responses on this thread to the extent possible. Most
probably, Delhi University disabled students and teachers will be
meeting on coming Saturday to discuss about the ways of carrying
forward the struggle. Perhaps, these announcements are another attempt
to discourage disabled students and teachers from attending this
meeting. However, I would like to familiarize you with their main
issues. For this, I am pasting below a long charter of demands already
submitted to DU VC many times, but he is paying no heed to this. In
fact, he has refused to meet them.

Hello!
I too agree with Kanchan mam and Amiyo sir. Kanchan mam has put some
really nice arguments and it's true that it becomes immense difficult
for a moderate user to follow two lists instead of a single one.
Though I am among those 75 people who have subscribed to this new
mailing list but Only to increase my knowledge. And it
's also true that I didn't find anybuddy who had similar thoughts as I
had. But now I have both of you so I am also encouraged to write my
viewes and I am totally against this idea of partitioning our
favourite mailing lis. I don't want to hert anybuddy but these are my

Maybe it be the Symbian, Iphone,Android, Blackberry or the new Windows

As Symbian is on the path to bid adieu, migrating to the other operating
system possesses some special challenges. Some learning and some unlearning

to be done. As a result, considerable traffic is expected in the process.

For those who still want to distance themselves from the inevitable, there
is no need to load them for it. This is the background behind this move.

The new list is archived from day one,and one can catch up at any point.
Just to see what is happening there, one can go to the archive site and have

I agree with Amiyo da on this issue. I think one list was better than 2.
If a mobile device user wanted further help he could have gone to a
specific mailing list for his device. I do think the creation of a list
for this topic is too premature and unnecessary.
I am sure the moderator has thought about it in great detail however I do

think he has been illadvised. I would like to bring to his attention that

this Diwali we have had atleast 20 messages which will require his
moderation and this is the cause of excess mails not the discussion on C5

 or jellybean.

People like me who are moderate users of gadgets learn a lot from just
reading about technology and reading others opinion. I am definitely not
looking forward to subscribing to another list.

Would someone tell me whether my netbook can be considered a mobile device

 or not.
I can carry it anywhere so isnt it mobile?
So dear moderator should I take my problems of desktop to this list and my

 netbook to the new list.
Or are you assuming that mobile actually means only cellphone.
Lets go further, where should I take my problems about Victor? Should I go

to the new list or should I stay with the old or should I only go to Human

 Ware.

In these days of convergence when anything can be done on anything are we

a little out of date, I wonder.

Dear Friends
A few days ago, We on behalf of BGFI, had posted an mail calling for
issues in insurance faced by the blind community. You can highlight
your issue like denial of a policy, charging extra premium, denial of
risk cover, etc. etc. and write to us with or without documentary
support, but with sufficient particulars.
However, we are pained to say that we have received only a handful of
responses and that too without sufficient details.
We reiterate that BGFI is going to interact with chairman IRDA shortly
and we need to point out the discriminatory practices which are
rampent in insurance sector.
We should be trying for an RBI like circular from IRDA which would
empower us to demand equal treatment from insurers.
So, please do not vent your anger in air always, do contribute when it
may matter.

 Anilji,

One’s risk taking appetite determines which avenues are good for
 saving or investing.

For example, I think for me, property investment is the best option
with very high returns and safety but lot of hard work and stress.

However, for smaller amounts, you can go for Systematic Investment
Plans by top equity funds. It averages your risks and returns in the
medium and long term you will never be a loser given you take a right
 redemption decision.

Well, in terms of debt instruments, I don’t favor them at all as even
the highest rate of interest on FDs or bonds are always lesser than
your inflation rate so actually value of your money goes on
 deteriorating.

One very important tip which Sameer shared with me,
Please don’t keep any money more than say 10,000 in your savings
account lying just like that. It depreciates the value of your money.
Instruct your bank to keep all the cash in sweep in-sweep out or link
fixed deposit as ICICI calls it.

 In case of ICICI,

All you’re your cash in savings account other than your designated
amount is converted in to link fixed deposits in the multiples of 5000
and your can earn almost double the return than your savings account
or equivalent to fixed deposit while it remains flexible for you to
remove them any time or issue check without any penalty.

Ideal tenure for this is the highest tenure.
Good luck and all your returns losses are yours and not mine...

If u invest say 2000 monthly in any large cap diversify mutual fund like HDFC
top 200,IDFC premear iquity fund, DSP black rock top 100, etc'. For more than

Hi anil, insurence and investment are different. Be clear about your
objective. Insurence is for yr dependents in case of untimely death. If u
want this, go for term plan. Investment is for yr goals child education,
child maridge, returement etc'. For this, u have to decide whether u want
low but safe returns, go for PPF, or bit risk but high returns, go for
large cap diversify mutual fund via monthly investment plan. Whith

[AI] request fof assisstance

 Dear Friends,

We would like to convey our heartfelt good wishes for the year 2011 and at
the same time we would like to announce that Human Rights Law Network in
partnership with Sruti Disability Rights Centre is organizing a State Level
Workshop for Women with Disabilities on 20th and 21stof January at Seva
Kendra 52B Radhanath Chowdhury Lane Kolkata 700 015.

Admittedly, the census 2001 puts the figure of women with disabilities at
9.31 million constituting 42.46% with disabilities in India. The figure may
also rise as it is extremely difficult to identify disabled people specially
disabled women as they are hidden by their families because of the stigma
attached to disability. India being a signatory to the United Nations
Convention on Rights of Persons with Disabilities acknowledges the right of
women with disabilities and requires their involvement in all developmental
 activities.

Consequently it is imperative that women with disabilities are empowered in
order to enable them to engage with civil society and statutory bodies to
assert their human rights. This workshop is a platform which aims towards
the legal empowerment of women with disabilities. This meeting will initiate
the process of starting a network of women with disabilities. The
significance of this workshop is even more since 2011 census is ensuing.

Therefore, your organization which works tirelessly for the abovementioned
cause is cordially invited to take part in the said workshop. We at HRLN,
Kolkata and Sruti Disability Rights Centre are looking forward to your
active participation and taking our partnership to a new level in order to
achieve our common object of women empowerment together.

Please note that boarding of participants who are coming from the districts
is organized at the venue itself. For logistic reasons, you need to inform
how many participants from your organization will be joining us and how many
of them will require accommodation by 18th January 2011. Please contact us
at the below mentioned address or mail to kolk...@hrln.org with a copy to
