[AI] Urgent Response Needed: How to raise a request to include "Visual impairment" category in NIC recruitment
Dear Accessindians, I am posting here after a long time. Hope everybody is doing great. I am writing this email because I am stuck with a job application at the National Informatics center(NIC). A job advertisement was published for scientific and engineering posts at NIC. Candidates with engineering degree or MCA can apply. I do have B.sc computer science and MCA as my qualification. So I was trying to apply for the position called "Scientist B". But in the first step of the application, the select box to choose type of disability does not include the Visually impaired category. I studied the notification and it does not say any exclusion for visual impairment. By the way reservation is not mentioned for the visually impaired category. But I am interested in going through the recruitment process even if we do not have a reservation. Whenever I look in advertisements for engineering or scientific positions I see the same exclusion. At the same time, visually impaired people are working in similar positions in private organizations. But still the Government organizations are not ready to include visually impaired candidates into such positions. I would like to know all of your thoughts and how to make inclusion in such cases. Especially in the advertisement which I mentioned. The last date for application is April 4. I have already written an email to the email ID mentioned in the notification. Copying that email here as well. ___ Starting of copied email Sub: Requesting resolution for an issue in online application submission process to the post of Scientist – 'B', advt No. NIELIT/NIC/2023/1 Candidate ID: Position Applying for: Scientist B Dear Sir/Madam, I am one of the applicants in the above mentioned position. I am a candidate with a disability: Visually impaired(100%) When I am trying to proceed after creating an account, I do not get an option to choose visual impairment as my disability. I am attaching the screenshot of the same with this email. This is my dream job. I kindly request your support to resolve this issue as soon as possible. Because the last date for this application is April 4, 2023. I understand that the "Visually Impaired" category does not have a reservation for the mentioned post. But I would like to participate in the examination and if I get eligible, further in the interview as well on merit basis. I humbly request a quick response/resolution on this issue. Sincerely, Rejin Jose K ___End of the copied email Kindly share your thoughts and suggestions ASAP. -- With Warm Regards, Rejin Jose email:m2re...@gmail.com cell:8281293699 Have a Great Day.. -- Disclaimer: 1. Re: [AI] Accessible content editing platform
Hey, Sorry for the late response. Google docs will work perfectly. Please open the document in google docs. You can access the menu bar by pressing Alt+shift+F. Then go to tools menu. Find the accessibility settings and turn on screen reader accessibility. It works perfectly for documenting purpose with proper grammar and spelling suggestions. Hello, You can use contactsXL, or MC backup(mycontact backup) apps to do this. Just install any of the above mentioned apps and you can get the entire contacts to a single vcf file and share it to any email ID that you provide. Then you can import by opening that vcf file from nokia c5. MC backup needs in app purchase for contacts more than 500. this is the method that i prefer to backup my contacts of my IPhone. Re: [AI] Which is the better phone
Hello Akhil sir, Its up to your budget. the major brands we can suggest are samsung and moto. Here the difference is samsung use a customised android interface while Motorola use the stoke android. even samsung uses the customised OS, they also customised the talkback for the galaxy series as galaxy talkback. I personally suggest that, if you are in the budget with 15k, go with MOTO. in the case of samsung the higher end models like galaxy s series performs very well. Re: [AI] Feedback on TalkBack
hello sir, let me explain the down sides of talk back by comparing it with voice over by apple. Because these are the two leading smart phone gesture based screen readers. 1. Less responsive: talkback is less responsive when compared to voice over. it needs to repeat the gestures several times. hardware engineering is concerned in this regards, still it should be improoved for the performance of a gesture based screen reader. 2. Usability of fundamental features: the basic features like text editing operations, element navigation(in browsing) should be more handy. when compared to voice over, voice over provides a feature called rotor. such kind of features must be added. 3. basic gesture shortcuts: in voice over there are several gestures to turn off the speech, turn of the display, switch between active apps etc. they should be introduced in talkback which will make talkback outstanding in usability. in my opinion it is better to improove talkback by placing voice over performance as a ideal one and work to achieve that. then accessibility of certain apps must be improoved. really some people uses screen readers in smart phones will never leave apple voice over if they can afford it. it is because of these reasons. if we can improove this, everyone will have a chance to use the best with less money. we really appreciate your initiative. -- With Warm Regards, Rejin Jose email:m2re...@gmail.com cell:8281293699 Have a Great Day.. [AI] Changes with windows 10 in contrast of win 7
hello access indians, hope all are doing well. this is rejin from kerala. i was using win7 with jaws14 and jaws 16 for last few years. now due to some physical failures of my machine i'm compelled to buy a new laptop. now i have bought an hp AU series laptop which is pre-installed with win10. the technical team told me that it is bit difficult to get drivers to install windows 7 which will get into malfunctioning of some components. so i have few questions regarding this. 1. which version of NVDA and JAWS works well with win10? 2. is there any known issues for win 10 regarding accessibility ? 3. does other softwares like kurzweil and OCR applications show any incompatibility? 4. is there any new useful features introduced in win10? 5. any suggestions or tips that help me to play with win10? Please kindly put some light on these questions. any simple suggestion will be appreciated. hello, check your data card manual. if it is plug and play data card, you can plug the device and simply connect it. it will do all the configuration automatically. now do one thing, plug the device. then find the network icon in the system tray by pressing tab on the desktop. press space bar. the device or network like idea internet etc will be listed. select by pressing space. then hit enter on the connect button. it will connect automatically. Re: [AI] how to read text in J.P.G. file
hello brother, you can use OCR solutions like ABBYY fine reader, open book, kurzweil etc. all these softwares use Optical character recognition technology to extract the text in image files. you can purchase any of them. ABBYY fine reader is a general OCR. others are specially made for V I. I've googled for you. found really interesting stuff by micromax.here is the link http://www.micromaxinfo.com/laptop/canvas-laptab-lt-666/ I also read that it is dual boot. that means you can either android or windows operating system. best with your needs. not compatible for heavy tasks like professional graphics, video and photo editing operations. good for reading books, internet surfing, movies, music etc. it has sim card slot for more handy connectivity. OTG support is available for USB connectivity. check more on the given link. test the device before you buy it. jaws might be good with these spec, but NVDA can do the best job with it. it's my suggestion, but don't decide only by listening me. because I've no practical experience with that device. hello, that is a true thing. but it serves our need. if we search for alaptab of any other giant brands, it wont come under our budget. Microsoft is also there with these kind of product called Surface pro. but the price is 10 times bigger than this. both is there in market. you can choose branded giant or the affordable one who do the same job. the main remark of micromax is its hardware, it provides average quality stuff. but with betterspecifications. its upto customers choice. Re: [AI] Free scanner and OCR app for iOS and Android
Thank you very much for this information. is this app free for both iOS and android? On 8/15/15, Ajay Sharma ajaysharma89...@gmail.com wrote: Hello there, Firstly, happy independence day to all members! and now, I am not sure weather it has been alredy shared or not, but if you are looking for a free and accessible alternative to scan your documents and convert into readable digital text in word, ppt or pdf format, you might try the Office Lens app by Microsoft. What makes it better than other ocr scanning apps is its simple and accessible interface and its smart algorithm that have ability to refine and produce a cropped clean image, that optimizes the ocr and you get satisfactory results. It oppens with camera and on its bottom, you can choose weather you want to capture it as a picture, document or white board. While taking picture, keep the object that you want to scan focused for some time, before clicking, it will allow the camera to adjust to get a optimized picture, as there is no audio feedback while using the camera, you might need to use your imagination at its best. After clicking, the image would be displayed, if it seems good, tap on the done button at upper right corner or tap on retake button at upper left corner to take the picture again. After you hit the done button the list would appear with lots of options like export to One note, Onedrive, word, powerpoint, pdf etc. and tap whatever option you like, then You will have to enter your microsoft account login details, or create a new account, you need to do this only for the first time. After that, the screenmight go inactive for some time as it processes the document and on my iphone 4s, it took around 2 minuts to convert a page of a medium sized novel. The result gets directly saved over the cloud when you tap to open the converted document, it gets downloded from there, once open you can share this document to save it on other apps like iBooks or Office suit etc, so that, you do need to download it everytime you need it. Although , you could not do batch scanning, like KNFB Reader or Cam Scanner, this small app could become useful in many ways, atleast you will not have to run to get your certificates or photo scanned everytime. This app is available for both iOS and Android and you can download it from the App stor e or play store or through the following links: Apple App Store: https://geo.itunes.apple.com/in/app/office-lens/id975925059?mt=8at=1000l5aY Google Play Store https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.microsoft.office.officelenshl=en Also, if there is any such better app, please let me know and gratify. I'll be happy to know. Re: [AI] How to Manage Power Point presentation
Thank you for the response, first thing,I don't know braille. I have some more questions... Bluetooth headphones are familiar to me,but I don't understand the remote. is it the remote of projector or your system? from where can I get it? what is the technical name of that stuff? which type of headphone you are using? I use jaws in 65% rate,is that rate ok? but in slide show mode jaws sometimes responds very slowly. how can I manage both listening and speaking?will it create break in the talk? again thanks for the hopeful response... Hello sir, I'm Rejin Jose. i'm a graduate student from kerala. i'm familiar with C,java and shell scripting. also have basic knowledge in python. hope i can learn more and do something different with you... so i would like to be a volunteer developer for NVDA. please tell us about what we are planning to do and how we are gonna deal with this. approximately how many hours should we pay in a week for this.? please consider my following new mail id for the Group. holyge...@gmail.com Thank you for giving these kind of opportunities for us. On 2/6/15, Dinesh Kaushal dineshkaus...@hotmail.com wrote: Dear All, If you get thrilled in learning something new or if you enjoy solving difficult problems, here is an opportunity for you that will take you on a journey of learning, creating and solving problems that matter for all of us. Together we can make our lives more productive and enjoyable. We have received a few queries regarding the possibility of becoming an NVDA developer. As NVDA is an open source software, anyone can get the code and start developing, but in practice people find it difficult to approach such a big piece of software. There is another misconception within screen reader community that NVDA cannot be adapted the way other screen readers can be, but this is wrong. NVDA can also be customized using python programming language. For example, someone can provide application specific support by creating an addon. Given the above conditions, we are interested in finding out whether there are people who are interested in learning NVDA development and contribute in its growth. It is not very difficult if someone has a will to learn and venture in to new areas. One would have to learn python, git and screen reading in general. There is already NVDA development mailing list, but that should be approached once one is reasonably conversant with screen reader and development. To facilitate onboarding of more developers for NVDA, we are planning to start a group. If there are at least 5 people interested in the development of NVDA, we can figure out a way to guide your journey towards becoming an NVDA developer. We will guide you how to learn python, git, and NVDA, but we would expect you to put in your effort as well. If you are interested, just drop me an email and then we can take it forward. Re: [AI] How can I use Whats App in my PC?
for this you need a sited assistance. open playstore and download and install talkback. then go to accessibility settings and activate it. after that you can use the entire stuff with it. then again go to playstore and download whats app. while you login to it with your number, you might be asked for the confirmation. in the case of mobile phone it will be done automatically through the network. in this particular case we need to use phone call confirmation. you will get that option on the go of confirmation. then you can add contacts and start chatting. so all the best... Re: [AI] about programming language .NET
hello pooja, programming languages like c,c++,java, python etc are quite accesible. the thing that you have to do is the selection of the compiler. the common compiler which is using for c and c++ is turbo c. it is a application with blue screen, that you might have heard. it is not accesible. you can use either accesible compilers like dev C++ or use the command prompt to compile the code. java and python are commonly compiled using command prompt. for this you have to register the environmental variables. if you just google it,you will get the steps to do that. i'm also a graduation student. i have not worked with VB. i read that VB and stuffs like that are also accesible. according to my knowledge almost all the programming languages are accesible. the development tools which we use is the thing that deal with the accesibility. their are lot of accesible programming tools for us. you can check out the following website. it blends all such tools and guidance for us. URL:www.nonvisualdevelopment.org and also you can subscribe for program-l mailing group for personal assistance. this is one of the major blind programmers mailing group. it will be a great resource for you. hope this helps. all the best for your studies...!!! [AI] doubt regarding matrix operations
hello aal, i'm an undergraduate student persuing b.sc degree. in my mathematics syllabus their is one module based on matrices. in this module the mainly discussing topic is the elementary transformation. i dont know how to do this elementary transformation since it needs more visual comparison. means we need to compare and check the elements in each row and coloumns. i'm having 20% vision, so i do problems with linear type equations using large pointed black sketch pens. i'm not able to read it well but the teachers can value it as my internal exam papers. but in the case of this operations i'm not able to do like that. i'm using my laptop to study. i'm using win 7 os with MS office 2007.please suggest me a method to do this. it is an urgent help. -- With Warm Regards, Rejin Jose email:m2re...@gmail.com cell:8281293699 Have a Great Day.. hello brother, i'm also a student with RP. i'm also a college drop out in engineering due to my low vision. the management was that much cruel to me. but now i'm doing b.sc in the same subject (computer science) in another college. i also had the same mind that you have. just try to move out of that attitude. now i cannot read any printed materials. i'm using screen reader for my studies. not only a sited person can do something but also the low vision can do anything in this world. our technologies are that much advanced. you can do anything if you are ready to accept your disability and focus your ability. i prefer you to use screen reader instead of magnifier because while we use magnifier it will be strain for our eyes. it wont be good for your vision. i'm suggesting this because you are having RP. otherwise its good. i'm glad to say one thing. you are at the right place. i mean this mailing group. you will get great support and guidance from these experienced experts in this mailing list. you can share any queries and doubts about your career. you are warmly welcome to this wonderful group. hello friends, bluestacks is not accesible with jaws. but we can install talkback in bluestacks itself. it is not bad. we can download and use any of the android applications in it via google play store. i'm using whats app in this using talkback. whats app is quite accesible in this. if we need we can download kit kat launcher which makes our pc completely looks like an android device. but it works just as an application in windows. it cannot access any storage areas of the pc. but we can use internet applications like whats app. but we need sited help to download talkback. once you configured it will be launched automatically. then we can mute jaws. i downloaded and tried the google tts in it,the response to our keyboard actions becomes very slow, while we install talkback picco tts will be the default one. bluestacks requires graphics card in our pc. download and try it. please get back with your comments on it. -- i used talkback with physical keyboard of my pc. it is not bad. you can try one more way, lock the left mouse button using jaws command. it is also fine. brother, graphics card is technically called as VGA display adapter. it supports the pc to perform more graphical applications(eg:high graphic games). you can check it in the device manager. type device manager in start menu. then find display adapters in the list. check whether VGA display adapter is present or not. try this link to download bluestack: http://bluestacks.joydownload.com/?c=6gclid=CJ_Snpmln74CFZUTjgodjkkAtA On 5/9/14, Mohit Gupta mohitchan...@gmail.com wrote: hi where can i download bluestak. what is graphic card? how to check it whether our computer has it. [AI] quiry regarding borland C++
hello friends, ive installed borland C++ compiler and configured it correctly.but while i checked the 'how to compile' part in the web site,i read like this.i'm pasting that part below: So, now that you are armed with all this information you are probably wondering How do I turn my source code into a program? We will start with the simplest case of a single source file, console program. Here is the source code of a file called simple.cpp that I wrote in the text editor, notepad: #include stdio.h int main(void) { printf(Output from running program); return 0; } To build this into a program we only need to call the compiler. However, the compiler needs to know what source file to build and where to find the header files and the library files. We pass these to the compiler as command line options as shown: bcc32 -If:\Borland\bcc55\include -Lf:\Borland\bcc55\Lib simple.cpp The resulting program is called simple.exe and can be run by typing simple at the command-line. Now, let's look at the case of a console program with two source modules. simple.cpp will contain our entry point main and will call a function defined in the other module, funcs.cpp. simple.cpp #include funcs.h int main(void) {return PrintSomeOutput(Output from running program); } funcs.h #include stdio.h int PrintSomeOutput(char* output); and funcs.cpp #include stdio.h int PrintSomeOutput(char* output) { printf(output); return 0; } To build this, simply add funcs.cpp to the previous compiler command-line as such: bcc32 -If:\Borland\bcc55\include -Lf:\Borland\bcc55\Lib simple.cpp funcs.cpp So what happens if you have a bunch of different include and library directories. Or hundreds of source files. As you can imagine the command-line for this would be huge. You have two choices. Wrap up all of these commands into a batch file or use a makefile. Makefiles are prefferred. --- In the last paragraph they are saying about wrapping up of all files into a batch file or using makefile to use compile command easily.I dont know how to do this wrapping or makefile. So please guide me,which would be better and how to make use of it.please give me step by step instruction. thanks in advance. -- With Warm Regards, Rejin Jose email:m2re...@gmail.com cell:8281293699 Have a Great Day..
