Re: [AI] Seeking Guidance and Support for Cane Training and Solo Travel for Visually Impaired

2024-08-12 Thread Rohan Kumar Singh
Thank you all for your guidance and help.

I was looking for the Mobility and Orientation service like NAB Karnataka
which Veena ma'am has shared.

But the issue is that my hometown is in patna and Delhi is more near to it
than Bangalore . So , if the similar service is available in Delhi like
what NAB Karnataka is offering ,it would be great even if it costs little
money from my pocket, but the Mobility & Orientation service should be from
Govt. recognised NGOs , not from an independent private trainer.

Thanks
Rohan

Re: [AI] Seeking Guidance and Support for Cane Training and Solo Travel for Visually Impaired

2024-08-09 Thread Rohan Kumar Singh
Thank you for your response, Tutab. I will definitely reach out to you.

Currently, I am living in Patna. When I was in Hyderabad, I contacted LV
Prasad Rehabilitation Center, but they informed me that I needed to book an
appointment first. Unfortunately, my office hours are from Monday to
Friday, and my friend was unable to take leave on a working day to assist
me.

I called LV Prasad Rehabilitation Center directly and explained that I have
a visual disability certificate. However, they insisted that I need an
appointment from and a referral from LV prasad for cane training.

Now that I am in Patna, I am looking for cane training near my city, such
as in Delhi or Noida, where I can also find accommodation to stay while I
learn cane training.

[AI] Seeking Guidance and Support for Cane Training and Solo Travel for Visually Impaired

2024-08-09 Thread Rohan Kumar Singh
Dear Access India Team,

I hope this email finds you well. My name is Rohan, and I am reaching out
to seek your guidance and support regarding cane training and the use of
the JAWS screen reader. Additionally, I am looking for information about
NGOs in India that support solo travel for visually impaired individuals.

I have a medical condition called Retinitis Pigmentosa (Usher Syndrome type
2), which has resulted in progressive visual impairment. My journey with
this condition began with night blindness in 2015 when I was 15 years old,
along with mild hearing loss since birth. Until the end of 2019, I only
experienced difficulty seeing at night, but from January 2020, I started
noticing challenges in broad daylight as well.

With the shift to remote work due to the pandemic, I avoided going out of
my house since 2020. During this period, I was in the second year of my
engineering studies, and working from home helped me manage my condition.
However, in June 2022, when I traveled from Patna to Bhopal for my college
exams, I realized that my vision had deteriorated significantly, making it
difficult to navigate even in daylight. I had to rely on my friend's
assistance to move around the college campus.

In August 2022, I joined a reputable company in Hyderabad but faced
numerous navigation challenges. After two months, I requested to work from
home from my native location, which was kindly approved. It is now August
2024, and I have rarely ventured outside my house due to a lack of
confidence in navigating independently.

I am seeking your assistance in finding the best places in India where I
can receive cane training and learn to use the JAWS screen reader.
Additionally, I would appreciate any information about NGOs that support
solo travel for visually impaired individuals.

Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to your guidance
and support.

Warm regards,

Rohan

[AI] Law (DU) Study Material

2015-10-19 Thread Rohan Chawla
Hello everyone,

Hope you are well. I am writing on behalf of my classmate Santosh Kumar Das
who is a student of Law Centre-1 (Faculty of Law), University of Delhi. He
is blind.

I wanted to check with you if you have any study material (case law
summaries, bare acts etc.) for law in Hindi for blind students (preferably
recordings). I am not sure if someone has translated and recorded the
syllabus for Delhi University before, but I thought it would be worth
checking.

Thank you so much,

Re: [AI] Experience with any model of Black Berry with its screen reader?

2012-09-05 Thread Rohan
Hi,

Sometime ago, I got a chance to work on the BlackBerry device using a
screen reading app. The moment I activated it for the first time, my
phone became little sluggish. But after a while I was able to identify
the home screen icons using a synthetic voice.

No doubt, the screen reader is quite accessible and it does allow you
to access the important areas such as emails, contacts, messages,
social media apps etc. However, you don’t get a terrific response at
times and that is likely to get fixed in later versions.

Besides, the only issue which disappointed me was poor sound quality.
Don’t know the reason though, it can be associated with device
speakers. Adding to this, the speech synthesiser is akin to the voice
over app found on Apple products. So, the user can get familiar with
the voice with no troubles.

Recently, the BlackBerry screen reader has received an update to fix
several bugs. Looking forward to try once more in order to distinguish
the modifications. IN case someone is willing to purchase a BlackBerry
phone, I would recommend him to wait for a stable release. To know
more, you can listen to the below given video recording about the
BlackBerry screen reader.

 Warm Regards,

Rohan

[AI] Samsung D988 hitting China

2008-07-20 Thread Rohan
Samsung D988 hitting China
Samsung's foray into dual SIM handsets isn't exactly the success story of the
21st century, but that doesn't mean the Korean phone manufacturer is giving up.
Samsung has just announced that it has another dual SIM phone hitting China -
the D988, also known as the D980 DuoS for the rest of the world. Some of the
specifications are :-

* GSM Triband (900/1800/1900MHz), GPRS/EDGE connectivity
* Dual SIM GSM card slots
* 2.6? 240×320px QVGA 262k color display
* 5 megapixel camera with autofocus and flash
* microSD memory card slot
* Bluetooth 2.0 and USB connectivity

No idea on when it will arrive outside of China nor how much will it cost, but
without 3G support, this handset looks set to reside in the mid-range market.

[AI] What are the device drivers?

2008-03-08 Thread Rohan
ems
* Low-bandwidth I/O buses of various sorts (for pointing devices such as mice,
keyboards, USB, etc.)
* computer storage devices such as hard disk, CD-ROM and floppy disk buses
(ATA, SATA, SCSI)
* Implementing support for different file systems
* Implementing support for image scanners and digital cameras

Choosing and installing the correct device drivers for given hardware is often
a key component of computer system configuration.

Virtual device drivers
A particular variant of device drivers are virtual device drivers. They are
used in virtualization environments, for example when an MS-DOS program is
run on a Microsoft Windows computer or when a guest operating system is run
inside e.g. VMware. Instead of enabling the guest operating system to dialog
with hardware, virtual device drivers take the opposite role and emulate a
piece of hardware, so that the guest operating system and its drivers running
inside a virtual machine can have the illusion of accessing real hardware.
Attempts by the guest operating system to access the hardware are routed to
the virtual device driver in the host operating system as e.g. function calls.

The virtual device driver can also send simulated processor-level events like
interrupts into the virtual machine.

[AI] Diverse space: Delhi Bloggers gather

2008-01-15 Thread Rohan
Diverse space: Delhi Bloggers gather

Sunday, January,13 2008 (New Delhi):

The capital over the weekend hosted its first bloggers meet to bring together
ideas and help bridge the gap in the fragmented space of blogging.

The meeting was the brainchild of a group of active bloggers. Abhishek Kant,
Founder Member of Delhi Bloggers and New Media Society said, "This is not
exactly the first of its kind but the idea behind this meet is that this is
basically a platform to share ideas."

Abhishek said, "It is to bring the community together, of avid bloggers and
professionals. Blogging is a fragmented space and we are looking to bridge
that gap."

Bloggers say it is the most powerful alternative space for political protest
and public activism. The Delhi Blog and New media Society intends to make
this real.

Ashish Chopra, another founder member of the society said, "Blogging as a tool
can help in a lot of ways, we have been asked by a lot of people to form
a group, so that we can help galvanise social causes besides bringing the
community together. Hence, the Delhi Blog and New media Society and the next
logical step to this would be the Indian Blog Society."

Admit to the society can be for just fun too. It has an open door policy for
blog writers, advertisers and marketing people.

[AI] iPod Speaks with Expressivo Voices

2007-10-28 Thread Rohan
Hi IPod Lovers,

Check out this!

IPod Speaks With Ivona's Voices
By PR Solutions
A new version of Expressivo, software capable of reading any text with a human
voice, has been launched. Expressivo version 1.3 is the first application of
this type in the world to be fully integrated with iPods.
iPod supports Expressivo because the application has been integrated with
iTunes - commonly available freeware for iPods. Any text read by Expressivo
is automatically added to iTunes library as an audio file. Here it can be stored
or copied to the player. With just one mouse click. Expressivo 1.3 makes it also
easier to create audiobooks as it has new functions
accelerating audio file creation process.
Expressivo's integration with iPod is certainly good news for over a 100 million
users of this most popular portable music player in the world. And for almost a
million of iPhone users. Now, thanks to Expressivo, they can
always have with them their favorite book or even a library and listen to it
anytime, e.g. while walking or in a car. iPod with Expressivo can also help
with work (e.g. reading out e-mails, RSS news or planned events from the
planner) and study (e.g. reading out lectures or facilitating learning of a
foreign language). Texts read by Expressivo can also be played on other MP3
players, cell phones and palmtops.
You can test Expressivo "virtual voices" in the free Text To Speech Service:
http://say.expressivo.com.
You just enter any text in the appropriate window. Then you choose the voice to
read the text. Four voices are available, speaking three languages (English,
Polish and Romanian). Then you can send the voice message which
you have generated to your friends via e-mail or publish it in the Web (e.g. on
a blog).
Expressivo Text Reader is powered by IVONA Text-To-Speech (TTS). The speech
generation technology developed by IVO Software is regarded as one of the best
in the world. In this year's prestigious international Blizzard Challenge IVONA
won acclaim confirming its success from 2006 when 135
experts chose IVONA as offering the best voice quality.
To find out more about Expressivo visit
http://www.expressivo.com.
Expressivo has been developed by IVO Software. Based on a proprietary technology
IVO develops and implements software speaking with a human voice.
Its professional products are used in business telecommunications, customer
service centers etc.) and in rehabilitation of the blind. Expressivo in turn,
which has been made available recently but has already become popular enables
virtually anyone to take advantage of the speech generation technology thanks to
its affordable price. To find out more about IVO Software visit:

2007-07-26 Thread Rohan
Hello Access Indians,

Long time back there was a mail regarding an aplication for keeping
passwords. Actually i would like to know is there
any aplication which gives you the ability to put passwords to your
folders so that noone tries to access the files or sub folders in them.

I want to keep passwords for folders in my external drive for security
reasons. Also one more thing I want to have
that noone tries to delete the folders without giving the password, is

Re: [AI] GPS Locator.

2007-05-05 Thread Rohan
Hi its just a website to fool your friends. When you are putting any
cellphone number and after that it shows
that its connecting to satelite and in the flash content it showing you
a house and all the buildings and then it enters a bathtub where a guy and a
girl are sitting.
When the flash movie is shown to any sited person he starts imagining that
the house shown there is the same he is living.
As soon as the flash content is over it connects to a page where in hindi
its written "Apne Mitr se mazak karen"

Its good to fool others.

Enjoy

[AI] Talks 3.10 Released

2006-12-15 Thread Rohan
ne phone numbers.

b.. Podcasting

Nokia has released a Podcasting client especially for the N91, which
offers enough storage on its 4GB/8GB hard drive. You can download this
client from

http://www.nokia.com/podcasting

You can also find simple instructions on that web page, to help you
getting started.

You can expect quite large downloads when podcasting. Thus, you should
ensure that you use an internet connection with a flat fee and high
speed. The WLAN connection would be the best choice for the N91.

We have not tried to use the Podcasting client on other handsets.

  a.. What's New?

In addition to supporting additional handsets, version 3.10 introduces
some improvements to existing features, compared to previous versions
of TALKS. These will be made available also in a version running on
Series 60 2nd Edition soon.

a.. Settings changes now take effect immediately when confirmed with
"OK".

b.. Settings application now speaks on all phones (including 3rd
Edition), even when TALKS is unloaded - this used to work on older
phones, but not on newer models like the N70 and N90.

c.. Future versions of TALKS can now be installed without having to
disable the currently running version first, resulting in more speech
during the upgrade.

d.. Magnification: softkeys are focused correctly when switching
screen modes with [Talks],[*].

e.. Magnification: also tracks horizontal cursor movements in text.

f.. Fixed automatic reading of Caller ID when [Key 1] shows "Accept"
rather than "Options".

g.. Pressing [Talks] key no longer starts checking the screen for
updates (avoids situations where the screen is being re-read
unexpectedly).

h.. Disabled [Talks],[long 1] to open the (currently missing)
application-specific help page.

i.. Registration shows an error message if something goes wrong
while sending, rather than just waiting.

j.. Some general stability and performance enhancements.

  a.. FAQ

Q: Can I install the new TALKS&ZOOMS version to old S60 1st or 2nd
Edition handsets?
A: No, this is a completely different version that can not be
installed to older handsets.

Q: Your software does not install on my E-Series handset or branded
device! Why?
A: While TALKS&ZOOMS itself is certified, and thus can be installed on
any supported S60 3rd Edition handset, the installers for the TTS
engines (Eloquence or RealSpeak Mobile) are not signed. E-Series
handsets and some branded devices do only accept the installation of
signed software, unless you turn of the related option inside the
Application Manager:

  a.. Open the phone menu.

b.. Open the App. Manager inside the Tools folder

c.. Press "Options", then select "Settings".

d.. Set "Software Installation" from "Signed only" to "All".

e.. Press "Back" to close the Settings dialogue, then "Exit" to
close the App. Manager.

f.. Now, you can install the TTS engine.

Q: Which TTS engines are currently supported on the new handsets?

A: Currently, all Eloquence and RealSpeak Mobile voices that were
available in TALKS 3.0 are also supported in 3.1.

Q: Can I have speech on a call with the new handsets?

A: This is currently not supported with most TTS engines, due to some
changes Nokia made to the phone software that makes access to this
functionality more difficult now. We are working on an update that
will enable this feature also in 3rd Edition handsets. When using
Nokia's built-in TTS with TALKS (using the NokiaTTS driver), speech
during a call is already possible.

Re: [AI] fm feature apart from nokia 3230

2006-10-25 Thread Rohan
you can use fm in nokia6681 by using a special headset which was available
earlier.
The fm radio get connected via through intercepters in your phone and that
headset is compataeble with your phone, currently that headset is not
available in india.
You can search on symbian.com for special softwares for fm. There are some
softwares for fm radio which are working on nokia6600.

[AI] News For Skype Users

2006-10-05 Thread Rohan
Hello Access India,

I want to share this interesting post

Some of you Skype users may find this quite interesting.
Use Skype with your regular telephone and record your calls!
I've had Skype for years but rarely used it. It was just too awkward
because
I was usually using my microphone for something else and I could never answer
the
computer fast enough when someone called. Now I use Skype for everything but
local
calls.
With Skype, calls within the States and Canada are free until whenever and
anywhere
else I call in the world is two cents per minute.
The thing that changed is the "Internet Phone Wizard" from Actiontec
Electronics
/ VOSky. It's just a little USB device that I plug my regular telephone into.
You
can optionally plug your line from the wall into it. When I pick up the handset
I get my regular dial tone. If I push the pound key twice I get the Skype dial
tone.
Now I just dial the number I want from the phone or the computer. When a Skype
call
comes in the phone gives two short rings. I just pick up the handset and talk.
A bonus is that my "Internet Phone Wizard" shows up in the "Wave" tab of
Sound
Forge's "Preferences" so I can record my calls whether they be through Skype or
the
regular phone service.
You can probably find it less expensive elsewhere but the "Internet Phone
Wizard"
is $75 from Chirping Bat, includes shipping.

Re: [AI] ANTIVIRUS FOR MOBILE PHONES

2006-10-01 Thread Rohan
Hello Sir,

First of all if you are using internet via your cellphone through GPRS, then
there is a need to install antivirus on your cellphone as viruses do come
from the internet and sometimes through Blue tooth too.
I also enquired from Nokia,
and they recommend F-secure which is not free one. If you want to try you
can take one free antivirus from me which i have not tried as i don't use
internet from my cell.

[AI] Mobile Phone Can Read Books

2006-09-20 Thread Rohan
Mobile Phone Can Read Books

 By Kim Tae-gyu, Staff Reporter

Korea Times, South Korea, September 19, 2006

LG Electronics, the world's fourth-largest cell phone vendor, has added

another compelling feature to the mobile handset - reading books for the

 visually impaired.

The Seoul-based company yesterday started marketing the model, the LF1300,

through LG Telecom, the country's smallest wireless operator, at around

 400,000 won.

Only the blind, visually-impaired and dyslexic can buy the talking phone

after presenting a government certificate at sales outlets of LG Telecom.

``The LF1300 is the world's first mobile handset that is capable of

 reading

books for the print-disabled, who otherwise could not enjoy them," LG Vice

 President Cho Sung-ha said.

``This is not about making money at all but about contributing to society.

We will continue to put forth efforts to bridge the digital divide for the

 disabled," Cho said.

Users of the gadget can download approximately 300 audio books from the

Internet site of LG Sangam Library to their handsets in two ways.

One is to access the digital library's Web site (

www.lg.or.kr

) on a

 computer

specially designed for the blind to get the audio books and transfer them

 to

 cell phones.

The other is to download the digital books directly with cell phones

 through

the wireless network by touching a hot key on the LF1300 handset. Both

 methods are free of charge.

On top of its unique feature of reading books, the LF1300 is not inferior

 to

the contemporary top-line phones in both outlooks and functionalities.

The sleek 16-millimeter-thick gizmo is armed with an MP3 player and a

Bluetooth headset, which enables users to listen to the music or talks

 without a cord.

The user interface of the LF1300 is also customized for the blind,

 enabling

handset users to control it through a voice guidance system.

However, there is a hitch because the phone's internal memory of 17

megabytes is small even for a single audio book file, which takes up 80 MB

 on average.

As a result, a high-volume external memory, which is available at

electronics shops, is a must for the talking book services.

[AI] a portable text reader to help the disabled.

2006-09-18 Thread Rohan
Korea based A.D. Information has announced the Voice-Eye a portable text reader
designed to help the disabled. The unit comprises of two
parts a barcode
scanner 'Voice-Eye Symbol' and a player that reads the text stored in
the special Voice-Eye Symbol.
The player looks like a crude version of the iPod with controls
arranged in the familiar click wheel style. It supports English,
Chinese, Japanese, and
Korean, by installing TTS (Text to Speech) engine it can support
additional languages.
It plays music too as no modern day gizmo is complete without MP3
playback. The Voice-Eye is currently being used in courts across Korea
for reading out
the judgement and other news to handicapped people. The voice produced
very much human like, it supports stand alone recording without the
need of a PC.
Files can be transferred via USB connection.
A Lithium Polymer battery powers the Voice-Eye, pricing and
availability is not known yet.

Re: [AI] query about sms using yahoo messenger

2006-09-18 Thread Rohan
Hi there,

Yes there is a way which i tried long time back,
by sending sms messages to my friends.
You can go to:
www.sms.ac.in
and there you can register your cell number and make your profile by putting
your user id and email address etc. When you will send sms to anyone's cell
then it might not show your cell number and instead of that it might show
your user id. With this website you can send 5 free sms daily.

Enjoy

Re: [AI] VOTE FOR LITTLE DIWAKAR

2006-09-11 Thread Rohan
Yes there is no doubt that he is a good singer. I watch this realaty show
regularly.
I also want to chip in the discussion.

I had seen almost every performance of Diwakar and when he got out it was
very sad too.
But what i noticed that when he use to sing there was some problem in his
pitch which was also noticed by the three judges and told him many times
that who so ever is teaching you should correct his pitch. One more thing
judges also use to mention that he is missing some expression and some
feeling is needed in the song. So when he got out according to me he was
out only because of pitch problem, expressions and one of you had shared
that no sponser would like to make a Blind winner on such a show which is
loved by the whole country. You all know that why nowadays singers are
also asked to learn how to perform on the stage while he or she is singing.
everybody is calling back Diwakar and other 5 singers to come and join the
other 5 in the finals, because on the basis of talent.
So I am very much clear that there will be some politics in choosing the
6th one.
I will apreciate that Diwakaer went in such a competition and reached in
last 10 with no fear. i think he gave his best inner talent there and he
also made
an effort to improve himself after his poor grades. I would like to mention
the children who are already there in the TOP5 they are so good that even if
the judges will take Diwakar on the basis of his disability then he will get
out of the show in the next episode because of other five singers that they
are so good that i know one of the girls will win the title. He showed his
best of the talent and now there are some more better children then him so i
feel if he is not selected this time then he should come to the show again
correcting his mistakes and try to show to India that he will win on the
basis of talent and not on the basis of blindness.

Enjoy

Re: [AI] want to get rid of windows messenger

2006-08-03 Thread Rohan
Hello sir,

You can remove Windows Mesenger as Vikas sir told us that its a
application of the OS itself, so
kindly go to add/remove programs and use your jaws curser and go to top of
the file and there are some icons on the left side. So try coming down with
your jaws curser
and you will see one icon like" Windows Components" click on that icon and
one progress bar will start which will give you list of components of the
operating system so select Windows messenger and click space on that and
then do a next button and you will be done.

Enjoy

[AI] Microsoft shuts down Windows 98

2006-07-11 Thread Rohan
BBC NEWS
Microsoft shuts down Windows 98
By Mark Ward
Technology Correspondent, BBC News website
Microsoft is urging an estimated 70 million users of Windows 98 to upgrade as it
ends support for the software.
>From 11 July, Microsoft will no longer help users over the phone with any
>problems
they have with the ageing operating system.
The firm will also stop providing security updates for Windows 98 from the same
date.
Support for the software was originally due to end in 2003, but was extended
following
customer protests.
Shutting down
Products affected by closing down the support system include Windows 98, Windows
98 Second Edition, and Windows Me (Millennium Edition). Analyst firm IDC
believes
that more than 70 million users will be hit by the change.
The majority of these people are likely to be using the operating system at
home,
as by now most large businesses have phased out machines running the software.
Many
small firms are also believed to be users of the product.
Microsoft ended free support for this trio of products in late 2003 but
continued
to offer paid support and provide critical security updates. This too will now
stop.
VOTE Do you still use Windows 98? Yes No
Results are indicative and may not reflect public opinion
The change means that those still using Windows 98 and Me after 11 July could
become
more vulnerable to many security risks, as bug fixes for loopholes exploited by
hackers
will no longer become available.
In a statement Microsoft said it was "ending support for these products because
they
are outdated and these older operating systems can expose customers to security
risks".
Mikko Hyponnen from Finnish security firm F-Secure said that it was still
providing
updates for Windows 98 users who run its anti-virus package.
"In fact, 98 users are not at that great a risk as people might think: most of
the
new malware we see simply won't run there," he said.
"Nevertheless, if you want to be safe with 98: don't go online. Or upgrade to
something
that is supported with security patches," he added.
HAVE YOUR SAY
Unfortunately, it's the nature of the industry and Windows 98 has had its day
Simon Neale
According to computer security firm Secure Science, at least one hi-tech crime
gang
based in Eastern Europe specialises in Windows 98 and produces viruses that prey
on the software's weaknesses.
This is because users of it tend to have little knowledge of potential dangers -
and are older, so are more likely to have substantial financial assets worth
stealing.
Users of Windows 98 who have problems with the software may find an answer to
their
query themselves by hunting through the support information collected on the
Microsoft
website.
The software giant said this data will be kept live until "at least 11 July
2007".
It urged users to upgrade to a more secure operating system, such as Windows XP,
as soon as possible.
This could mean buying a new PC for those running a machine bought eight years
ago
with Windows 98 pre-installed. This is because the hardware specifications for
Windows
98 fall far short of the minimum required to run Windows XP.
It may also mean they have to replace or update any peripherals they use with
that
ageing machine.
The turn off for Windows 98 was originally due to fall in late 2003.
However, protests from many developing regions of the world where, at that time,
the software was widely used prompted Microsoft to reverse its decision.

[AI] A New Screen Reader!

2006-07-11 Thread Rohan
Some of you with the required skills may be interested in this.
From: Michael Curran
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
Hi all,
Today, I have made available a
free open-source screen reader for Windows.
It is called Nonvisual Desktop Access, and it can be found at:
http://www.kulgan.net/nvda/
NVDA is still very much in development, but I would like to start to get people
trying it out, so bugs can be ironed out etc.
Can I please stress though, it works on my computers at home, but I have no idea
how well it will work on anyone elses.
Test it out, but please be patient, and remember that things can only improve
with
user feedback.
Its probably best that people have a bit of knowledge of the python language if
they
are going to try it out, though I welcome anyone to take a look, but just
remember
its almost just a whole jumble of code at the moment.
Currently you can be paying up to $2000 for a screen reader, and as much as a
lot
of work goes in to the programming, it seriously does not cost, or does not have
to cost, that much.
In fact, I believe that if people have the time and want to collaborate on a
project,
we should eventually have access to a screen reader (or screen readers) for free
(yes, no money at all).
Currently this screen reader (NVDA) is written in the python language, and there
for perhaps may be a little slow in responsiveness. But, I say to anyone with
the
programming no-how who does think they can do better, here's a challenge to make
something better.
Following is some information on NVDA Introduction Nonvisual Desktop Access
(NVDA)
was started because of the need for a free open-source nonvisual access solution
for windows.
Written entirely in python, NVDA is a functional screen reader that allows you
to
use Windows with out vision, by using MSAA, the windows API, and a speech
synthesizer
to convey what is happening.
This is still very much still in its development stages, but if configured
correctly
and if you have all the needed packages, it should work quite alright.
Features . Using MSAA, it can find out the name, role, value, description,
state,
help text, and index of a control . Listens for events such as focus changes,
state
changes, value changes etc, and reports them appropriately . Allows you to
navigate
around windows by object, or navigate around the current window by line and
character,
with out moving the system focus . Reports edit changes in documents and edit
fields
etc (characters being added, characters being removed)
. Follows the system caret and reports the current character when moving around
edit
fiels . all information (such as the properties of an object, messages, window
text)
can be configured to have a specific rate, pitch, volume, voice, or even sound .
Specific "app modules" can be written to give extra functionality to certin
applications
Limits . Can not access the content of console windows (such as a cmd prompt or
some
terminal applications . Does not yet have a graphical user interface for setting
configuration options etc . The only speech synthesizers it supports at this
time
are sapi5 . App modules have not yet been written for MS Office or internet
explorer
etc . Probably only works on Windows XP and most likely Windows Vista
Dependencies
. Python 2.4 (The core python distrobution)
. pyAA 2.2 (python library for Microsoft Active Accessibility)
. pyHook 1.4 (python library for receiving keyboard events)
. pyTTS 3.0 (Python library for sapi5)
. pywin32-208 (Python library for windows specific functionality)

ICICI Bank Limited.

I got suspicious and tried calling the bank and then mailed them to verify
the authenticity of the mail. They have given mail-ids and contact numbers
where you can clarify these issues. I forwarded them the mail as well.
Yesterday I got this reply from them, read it very carefully:

Dear Mr. Haresh,

Subject: Updating account information through link in e-mail

Thank you for writing to us and bringing this e-mail to our notice.
We wish to inform you that the e-mail you received is indeed fraudulent
and that it has not been sent by ICICI Bank nor Visa.

other personal and sensitive information) from unsuspecting victims.
Clicking on the link or even pasting it in the address bar of your browser
will take you to a fraudulent site.

to a link online. If it happens that you have revealed your account

address bar of your browser window without any apprehension. We reassure
you that we use the latest encryption and SSL security devices to make our
website safe for use. You can expect nothing less from a
technology-intensive bank as ours.
May we request you to forward this mail to others so they too could be
made aware of the perils of "phishing".
Please visit the 'Secure Banking' section on our website for "Safety Tips"
and more information on a secure online banking experience.
We reiterate that ICICI Bank acts at all times with diligence, in good
faith, and without any intent of prejudice to the interests of its
customers.
Thank you, again.

Sincerely,

Tina Solanki

Please tell all your friends about this. This is a very serious scam and
many people have been caught in its trap.

[AI] Anti-piracy tool confuses users

2006-07-04 Thread Rohan
is not a problem in my opinion, what is a problem is having to persuade a
support
person to re-activate the licence after a hardware update, or an re-install when
you own a genuine copy.
Further more shops like PCWorld selling Windows XP Pro for over £250.00 compared
to prices at retailers who don't take advantage of consumers and sell XP Home at
£60, and XP Pro at £90 doesn't exactly encourage people to pay for the software
they
need in order to use the basic features of a computer.
Jodi, Chester
If Microsoft really want to combat piracy and stop the use of counterfeit
copies,
they should lower the extortionate prices of the genuine versions so everyone
can
afford them. People can't afford to be spending £50-£100 or more on one piece of
software every time they update. Especially when most software for all other
playforms
comes in at less than £35 at the highest. If you own a genuine copy then you
should
get free upgrades for life in my opinion.
Liam, Doncaster, England
Yeah I had a counterfeit copy off the web.
When WGA started complaining I downloaded and installed a patch to remove it.
Calvin Broadus, Stepford
Over the past two months or so I've noticed small windows updates being
attempted
on the systems we have and that on at least one of them it failed to install and
has tried to reinstall WGA on numerous occasions - personally I think that it's
a
glitch with the WGA tool, MS needs to do more thorough QA checks before sending
out
updates, lately they've been causing problems for us legitimate licence users
let
alone the users of pirated software.
Andy Gaucher, Ambergate, UK
Lordy - I'm glad I don't run Windows then. I wonder how this works with
computers
that are not hooked up to the internet. Will the app cause Windows to just stop
if
it can't contact Microsoft online?
Paul Dunning, Chelmsford, UK
I haven't heard of anyone who's had problems with WGA. However I can imagine
people
who own systems that were installed with a generic key code or corporate key
code
may have problems due to the fact the code on the sticker doesn't match the code
in the operating system. I have also read a lot about WGA reporting what
software
and hardware is on the computer.
Gary Seymour, Redcar, Cleveland
The whole tool used by Microsoft including the Activation software is dreadful!
I
have a genuine copy and EVERYTIME I install the software on my PC I have to
phone
through for the code to activate the software...and there was me thinking it was
meant to help genuine users!
Kevin , Grimsby, England
I feel Windows should be free to all users¿ for at least the first year, - if
not
longer as we are all working for Microsoft (unpaid) as their test engineers¿¿
Software without bugs¿. Now there¿s a novel concept¿¿

[AI] Encarta answers your questions via MSN Messenger

2006-06-28 Thread Rohan
Hello Friends,

I want to share one very interesting thing which i got on another list.
Encarta answers your questions via MSN Messenger

So many people have told me about this new feature, I just had to try it

 out

for myself, and now I have, I've just got to share it with you!

You can add Encarta to your MSN Messenger contact list and ask it

 questions.

The answers are totally fascinating. But first... here's how to get this

 going..

 1. Open MSN Messenger and sign in.

 2. Add Encarta as a contact:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]

 .

 3. Press enter on Encarta from your Contact List.

 4. Ask a question!

You get an instant message when you add the contact:

Welcome, Denny! My name is Encarta Instant Answers. I am a smart computer

who can bring you the Encarta info you want right in your IM window!

Here are some questions you can ask me:

 * What is the size of Italy?

 * Where was Nelson Mandela born?

 * What is a cello?

Type your question and I'll look it up for you!

 So I did...

 Denny says:

 Who is Santa?

 EncartaR Instant Answers says:

Santa Claus, legendary bringer of gifts at Christmas. He is generally

depicted as a fat, jolly man with a white beard, dressed in a red suit

 trimmed

You can even ask him if he is a real person, or how old he is, or anything

 you want to ask.

I don't think it works on AOL, but if you have MSN, add him to your

 contact

list and anytime you have a question, just ask Encarta.

I am enjoying this very much and its very useful for me.

Enjoy

Rohan

[AI] Problem inWindows Live Messenger

2006-06-28 Thread Rohan
Hello Friends,

I recently installed the new Windows Live messenger and i am geting very
strange problem while talking to someone through Instant messenging. Jaws
anounces the messages twice, that can be both incoming as well as the outgoing.
I also took sited help and came to know that by mistake i have removed the
backgrounds of the messenger by which i now think there are some other
background is displayed which is a animation background. So can someone tell
me if i want to retain the default background of the messenger then how should
i go about it? For your info I also saw in my sited user background and there
all the backgrounds where there. Vikas Sir told me its working fantastic with
jaws so there is no doubt to install any scripts or so. As we all know that
this messenger gives the ability to send and receive offline messages so when i
am sending the offline messages then its clear that why jaws anounces the
message twice because when we send "Hi" to a person so jaws will anounce
Rohan says Hi
and the next message will be this message canon be send to the following user.
"Hi" so as soon as it says the the message then it also anounces the message
sent which is understandable. So please help in this case.

Enjoy
