[AI] Looking for resource/ experience centres in Jaipur

2022-08-22 Thread Saloni Mehta
Hi AccessIndians,
I am teaching an accessibility and universal design course in Jaipur next
month. I want the students to get some hands-on exposure to people and
artefacts associated with access and inclusion.
Would anyone here be able to guide me to centers or groups that we could
visit or partner with for the students to get some live experience?

Thanks & Regards
Saloni Mehta

Re: [AI] Pre-budget consultations? is disability sector sending in suggestions?

2020-08-17 Thread Saloni Mehta
Hi Avinash, and Kanchan,
Just bringing up this thread again. As suggested by Kanchan earlier in Jan,
we must start our discussions about asks from the Budget sooner rather than
later.

>From my end, I'd like to open discussions about the needs of children with
disabilities, and their inclusion and integration in the education system,
as well as access to digital learning.
We have a bunch of clauses and directives from the Samagra Siksha Abhiyan,
RPD Act and NEP2020. How do we propose to implement them? What are the
associated budgets? As an organisation that works for and creates resources
that might be useful and required, how may we, the children themselves or
their parents and schools/organisations tap into these funds?

Happy to discuss. Starting early, so that we have time to conclude
something actionable.

Re: [AI] Purchasing G Suite-regarding

2020-08-07 Thread Saloni Mehta
Hi Soloman,
If you haven't already, you can look at the comparison of free and paid
features in google meet here https://apps.google.com/intl/en/meet/pricing/

>From what I can tell, security features seem to be the same in the free
version as in the paid version. You might need to play around with your
settings to ensure you don't auto allow anyone who is not invited.
Additional enterprise-level settings apply only if everyone in the meeting
is on the same domain, which is not happening in your case either way.

As for recording the classes, the option is not available in the basic plan
and becomes available only under enterprise licenses.

Moreover, all of these plans are free until the end of September. So you
can play around with them before making any purchase.

Dear Soloman,
Google Meets (https://meet.google.com/) is a free tool for all, and most
basic features of GSuite come free with any Gmail account.
Is there something specific you want to access for which you're looking to
purchase the GSuite basic plan?

[AI] [Disarmed] Re: any whats app groups for the visually impaired community in India

2020-04-20 Thread Saloni Mehta
Agreeing with Mukesh. We might need a repository.
Could the admins share the invite links and descriptions of the groups
here? Then we could join if appropriate, and admin will not have to do so
much effort to add people one by one.

Also are there any groups for parents of children with vision loss and
blindness? We know some very local community ones, but a common group would
be very useful for parents with children of different age groups.

As Tactopus, for the COVID duration, we have a group where we share
inclusive activities for young children to do every day. We would love to
have more children with VI benefits from it. Here are the links to join the
groups -

[AI] [Disarmed] Re: Query regarding sending a mail thread

2020-03-06 Thread Saloni Mehta
In case you the entire thread is not already in your quoted text (for
whatever reason) you can use the option of "forward all" instead of just
forward.
This is available under the hamburger icon/more menu right above the thread
(and below the search bar).

I am unsure if it's easily accessible. Hope someone more experienced can
shed some light here.

Re: [AI] Urgent: Office 365

2019-11-17 Thread Saloni Mehta
Asked a friend who designs for microsoft, he says -
Yes, most apps are. Office 365 has somewhere around 30-40 apps in it.
So haven't tried all of them. But Microsoft has a strict accessibility
standard for all new apps.

Hope this helps.

Very happy to hear. Hoping this actually comes through well :)
I had heard (anecdotally) of other similar parks, in some case specifically
for the VI. Can someone on this group please share examples of such
experience zones/ parks elsewhere in India?

Re: [AI] payment by phonepay

2019-06-30 Thread Saloni Mehta
In general the UPI limit is defined by your bank. It's not dependent on
which UPI provider you use (phone pe/Google pay etc.)
I think you can contact your bank to change the limit, if they allow that.

You could even add additional bank accounts.
For example, ICICI allows 10k per day, and Canara 25k per day. Which bank
are you using?

Re: [AI] Teaching Computer to VI Children.

2019-06-04 Thread Saloni Mehta
Dear Amiyo,
Could you connect the teacher with me on sal...@tactopus.com or
+918056668943?
We make a bunch of inclusive learning experiences for young blind kids.
Computer literacy sounds like something we could definitely help with.

We use mixed reality to add audio to tactile graphics. So far we have a
book on animals, a numbers matching game book and so on. We make these
interactive using a mobile phone. You can check them out on our website -
tactopus.com/store. Though not concerned with computer literacy directly,
the use of a smart phone in this way does expose young children to varied
uses of technology and computers. Looking at applications is often a good
motivator for learning more about the technology itself, hence, these could
be good introductory tools.

Looking forward,

Regards,

Re: [AI] braille gifts

2019-05-18 Thread Saloni Mehta
Dear Avichal,
Tactopus (www.tactopus.com/store) makes a variety of inclusive products for
children. One of the products - Singing cards (
https://tactopus.com/store/Musical-Greeting-Cards-Customise-Now-p126890554)
are greeting cards with tactile images that sing rhymes when scanned. Many
people in the past have used these to send across personalized greetings.
We do include short messages in braille if required.

In case you want something specific in bulk, we also take design service
orders. Please reach me at +91-805-666-8943 and we can discuss the
specifics.

Hi Ankit & Pratik,
Kudos! A single-stop access to information platform is much required.
Is it possible to access this information via a mechanism that does not
invoke the google assistant? Maybe a hangouts chatbot or a web portal?

Re: [AI] Making of a WhatsApp group containing all the members of the access India mailing list

2019-03-27 Thread Saloni Mehta
There is one issue with WhatsApp that no one here seems to be talking about
- you can't have parallel conversations on multiple topics.
It's something that email uniquely allows - threads. Which seems to be very
important for communication on access India.

Some other mobile platforms like slack and flock allow it as well. But they
aren't free, and probably not accessible either.

[AI] Need to speak to parents of children with vision loss

2019-03-11 Thread Saloni Mehta
Dear all,
I am the founder of an organization called Tactopus, where we create
tactile graphics (most of which are supported by audio) for the early
learning needs of children with vision loss.
We are trying to understand the journeys of the families or caretakers of
young VI children, what their educational needs and aspirations are, and
how we may work towards fulfilling them.
If you are a parent/ caretaker of a child with vision loss or know someone
who is, we would love to talk with you. Please write back, or call me
on +91-882-829-1016 so that we could speak further.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Our honest intent with our products is to make them:

   - Inclusive and Barrier-free - designed for everyone - with and without
   vision loss
   - Multi-Sensory - Learn through stimulation of various senses (vision,
touch, and auditory) making learning more engaging
   - Audio Guided- because every kid needs that special attention and an
encouraging voice that lets them learn at their own pace

Tactopus fills the existing gap of the absence of enriching learning
resources for children with visual impairment and other learning
disabilities. Join us on this journey towards making education inclusive in
the country.

Apart from our existing products, we would be happy to cater to any
specific requirement you might have pertaining to audio-tactiles for early
intervention.
