[AI] Availability of sounding tennis ball for visually impaired

2024-03-21 Thread sambit das
Hello

Where can I find sounding tennis ball? I have checked out that sounding
football and cricket ball are available on Amazon.. there are a couple of
online stores from United States and Australia that sell these sounding tennis
ball, but I am unable to find any such store or medium of getting the same in
India. Any idea where can I get such sounding tennis balls?

Thanks and regards

[AI] Ok Google not working on Moto g5g

2022-05-07 Thread sambit das
Hello all

OK Google is not working on my moto g5g mobile after updating to Android 11
from Android 10. I have tried out all the options including resetting the
voice settings, but updating all Google, restarting the phone several
times. OK Google gets activated if I press the mic icon on Google but it
does not respond to hands free calling. I have tried writing to Google as
well but not getting any response from them. I have been facing this issue
for the past 6. While reading through different blocks I came to know that
this is a problem being faced by stock Android users. Can anyone please
guide in the matter. Thanks in advance.

[AI] Accessible printer cum scanner

2020-12-26 Thread sambit das
Hello all,

I wanted to have a printer cum scanner at home to perform basic day to
day printing and photo copy functions. I purchased an HP ink jet
printer with wifi connectivity. But the problem is that it came with a
LCD touch screen for controlling the printer which is not accessible
and so I am unable to perform printing/ copy functions independently.
Today, I called up HP customer support and enquired whether any model
is available with physical buttons so that I could independently
operate the printer. They informed that all the printers are now
coming with LCD screen. Does anybody have any idea about any printer
that comes with physical buttons which can be operated by visually
impaired?

My basic requirements are as follows
1. Print cum scan facility
2. Wifi functionality
3. Ink jet printer which comes below cost of 5k
4. should have physical buttons

Thanks in advance

with regards

Sambit

You can try running the repair mode in Jaws. Alternatively you may
uninstall Jaws by selecting the option to remove all accessories and
then reinstall Jaws. This might sort out the problem.

Re: [AI] JAWS is unresponsive with Microsoft Excel

Yes I have tried reinstalling both Office as well as Jaws but the
problem continues. I tried the process in an another computer of mine
and in that case, Jaws does not read any cell content in excel. It
reads all the tabs and menus but not the cell content. Is there any
specific setting to be made in Jaws? I am stuck with all my

[AI] JAWS is unresponsive with Microsoft Excel

2020-04-23 Thread sambit das
Hello all,

I have recently been added to the group. I am Sambit das working with
a public sector bank in Bhubaneswar Odisha. I am visually impaired and
most of my assignments include working on Microsoft excel extensively
but recently I have been observing certain issues while using JAWS 18
with excel 2010/ 2013. Jaws is very slow and unresponsive while
working with excel. If I type one numeric value in one cell and press
enter, then it takes Jaws about 5 seconds to move to the next excel.
Similarly any command or key stroke applied takes about 5 seconds to
take effect including backspace or even typing a letter. I
am using an I5 eighth gen laptop with 8 GB RAM Windows 10 64 bit OS.
Can anyone suggest any solution to the problem. I am unable to work
from home during the ongoin lock down.

Warm regards

Sambit Das

bouncing.

I replied to the mails of L. Pavan and Mukesh Jain. Please confirm
whether they have reached the list or not.

I feel this problem could be because of cross postings to other groups

[AI] an emotional reminiscence

2009-06-23 Thread Sambit Das

Hello list members,
A very warm and auspicious mornig to all of you. I want to share a recent
incident that made an impression on my thought process. Around 3 months
back, i had been to a religious spot in orissa along with my mother in a
bus. The route had limited bus service and like indian buses, it was
carrying people far beyond its capacity. In the midst of the journey,
suddenly among the wild crowd, i heard someone immitating a certain FM radio
jockey. He was speaking in the same hip hop fashion and was singing songs
himself. Initially i thought him to be a tramp. But later, i was quite
impressed by his gregarious gestures and humble talks. Many of the
travellers requested for different songs and he also sang them
simultaneously behaving as if there is a song request on the radio. We
enjoyed the phase for about 30 minutes. Then i realised that he was a
visually challenged person. he was totally blind! I was a bit embarraced by
earlier remarks. He then got off from the bus. The conductor later told us
that the man used to get on to a bus both to and fro within a range of 20
kilometres and entertained people. He earned his living by collecting funds
that people gave him in the bus. He never asked for money but people gave
him some for his actions. The reason i wanted to share this incident is
that, an illiterate man, despite of his disability, entertains people just
to earn a living. he was unlike some of the beggars who ask you for money
and bestow you with melodious slangs on your denial. " A man inspite of his
disability, uses his ability to struggle for survival"

Hello list members,
Good evening to all of you. I wish to put up a small querry relating to
microsoft power point. While going through slides in a particular
presentation file, in order to move from one slide to another, I have to
press the properties button and press next slide. Then i can read the next
slide with jaws. However, the problem is that if i move to the next slide by
a mouse click or by pressing page down, the next slide appears but jaws
continues to read the initial slide. My question is that do we need to press
properties button and then press next slide option everytime we change to
next slide? Please do guide me.

regards
sambit

[AI] can classroom lectures be recorded?

2009-06-19 Thread Sambit Das

Hello friends,
A very auspicious good morning to all of you. I have a small querry. I have
taken admission into MBA and my classes start from July. I had written an
application describing my low vision and requesting for special provisions.
I had, in one of the points, mentioned the permission to voice record
complicated classroom lectures with the prior approval of the concerned
faculty. I just wanted to ask you all if such a request can be positively
responded. Sometime back I had seen an interview of a Visually challenged
person doing his English honours in Delhi University on CNN IBM. He also
used to record lectures in same manner. So can anyone on the list tell me if
i stand a chance of persuading the institute on the same ground? What do i
DO in case of a refusal? Please do guide me.

regards
sambit

Subject: [AI] New resource provides easier access to foreign languages
forpeople who are blind

Source: Goodchair - Fall 2008

For people who are blind or low vision, learning a foreign language
and getting the resources needed, just became easier. The National
Clearing house on Disability and Exchange (NCDE) encourages people who
are blind or have visual impairment to learn a foreign language and
pursue international travel with a purpose. Towards this goal, NCDE
published a new informational guide to support blind and low vision
students to take a broad range of foreign language courses, from
Arabic to Turkish, by providing the tools needed so that course
materials can be accessed.
"Read accessing foreign language material for the blind or low vision
students" online or download in various formats for free at
www.miusa.org/ncde/tipsheets/languageguide.
The National Clearing house on Disability and Exchange (NCDE), which
is sponsored by the US Dept. of State and administered by Mobility
International, USA works to increase the participation and inclusion
of people with disabilities in international exchange programs.
For further information contact: www.clearinghouse.miusa.org
thanks,
mukesh jain.
