I got 81% in my ICSSE board exam. I am sorry to tell this that I got very less marks in Math as I told u all before only that the paper was not too compatible for me but the past is past. I am little frustrated but my parents r very happy with the marks I have got. They told me that it is really great to study and pass in ICSE board. I am the topper in my school in commerce for 10th grade. I got 94 marks in commercial studies. So should see as I will get more percentage as in ICSE they take into consideration top 5 subjects only. If that is the case, I will be more than happy... I am telling u all this that if there is any 9th grader who is doing is ICSE syllabus, I beg him that not to take math in 10th grade as the board is too rigid for blind people especially for math. -- in regards Shreyas Nagaraj Reddy Search for old postings at: http://www.mail-archive.com/accessindia@accessindia.org.in/ To unsubscribe send a message to accessindia-requ...@accessindia.org.in with the subject unsubscribe. As you are aware; I and Jeeja Ghosh who was victim of discrimination by airline officials were invited to conduct training sensitization program for ground staff of Jet airways in New Delhi. I and Jeeja both shared our story of discriminations, challenges in life along with miths of disability. We both conducted two sessions and 103 employees of Jet airways attended our session On may 10, 2012. General manager customer Service for Jet airways, Mr. Tejinder Singh who is leading this initiative is confident that we would be able to make a impact on changing attitude and perceptions of ground staff while they handle guest with special needs. Jet airways is going to role out this initiative to Mumbai and other metro. While I welcome the initiative of policy reform which will take while before it is implemented. I thought offering our assistance with regard to conducting training and sensitization to ground staff of airlines might be most practical and quickest solution in illuminating discrimination. I also had a meeting with deputy director General civil Aviation, Mr. Lalit Gupta, requesting him to replicate Jet airways initiative to all other domestic airlines in India. I and Jeeja were pretty satisfied with yesterday's training and look forward to support such initiative in the future. Re: [AI] Feasibility of guide dogs in India
You are very much right as far as the utility of a guide dog for a person with visual impairment is concerned. But, the problem in India is not that of bad roads or built in structure. The problem here is that of stray dogs and street dogs. This is the biggest problem. In US or for that metter any where in the world where dogs are used as their guide by blind persons, to the best of my knowledge, there is no stray dog roaming around in the streets and those who keep pet dogs they also keep them with in their house and whenever they take them out most of them keep them chained, although there are some senseless people who take their dogs out without chain. Under these circumstances Keeping guide dogs in India is not possible. If we want to promote the use of guide dogs for persons with visual impairment in this country, then, we must do the following: Persuade the Govt of India to enact law banning uncontrolled movement of dogs in the street. Secondly, setting up of training centers to train the dogs to work as guide dogs on the lines of Forfer Guide Dog Training Center in Scotland and also the visually impaired persons in using the dogs as their guide. This is the right time of making efforts to persuade the Government as the New law for all of us is under the process of enactment and suitable provisions can be made in the act for this purpose. One of the things that I saw was how visually impaired people do everything quite gracefully with a guide dog. This really tempted me to think whether the use of guide dogs would be possible and feasible in India. Although it's true that India doesn't have the best of roads, it's also true that most indoor places like malls, airports, hotels, offices, etc have the same kind of structure all over the world. The roads in India have improved largely over the last few years and most of them now are at par with most nations. So, with that being said, the only major issue, I believe, is that people feel that Indians, in general, hate and are scared of dogs, so the experiment wouldn't work. Now, my point is this: How many people have you seen who look at the white cane with awe and respect? I, for one, haven't come across many such people. I believe that we can and must work towards promoting the use of guide dogs in India. I saw a blind man who was giving his guide dog instructions like, 'Find the stairs' or 'Find an empty chair' or 'Find this XYZ person' and the dog was able to do those things perfectly. Now, I don't think you can really do such things with a cane, even though I have full respect for those who use the cane -- me being one amongst them. As for the feasibility of using guide dogs in India, this has been discussed on the list several times in the past. Re: [AI] Fwd: RTE President's address
I fully agree with your views. Infect, I would say that all options for all children should be made available i.e. The choice should be that of the parents of child with disability whether he/she wants his/her child to be educated in inclusive/integrated/special school. Of course in the case of child with severe multiple disability home-based education is the best at least till the time he/she is able to benefit from any other option. Ever since US President Lyndon S. Johnson first proclaimed it in 1964, White Cane Day has become the day of the year to publicise the needs and achievements of blind people everywhere. What follows is an appreciation of Peguilly d'Herbemont, the French woman who was responsible for introducing the white cane 60 years ago. She was a lady of French high society who devoted much of her time and fortune to the welfare of the blind. The writer of the article, himself blind, taught for a time in the mid-30s at Worcester College for the Blind, later joining the German Diplomatic Service and finishing up as First Secretary to the German Legation in Berne, Switzerland. The article is reproduced by kind permission of the German Federation of the Blind, in whose organ it first appeared in January of this year. It is based on a book commemorating the originator of the white cane who died in her 92nd year, on 28th February 1980, by Mireille Oblin-Briere who met our heroine towards the end of her long life. She was so moved by her story that she set it down before her memories faded altogether and her papers and records were lost to the world. Peguilly d'Herbemont was born on 25th June 1888 into an old French noble family of the same name. In her youth she led the conventional and protected existence, devoid of great activity, of a girl from a good family, an existence reminiscent of the life of the aristocracy before the French Revolution. She never visited a public school, but was educated by German and English governesses and convent sisters. Her movements were restricted and were mainly confined to the family positions in Paris and Belgium, but she spent most of her time at the castle of Charmois not far from Verdun. A lyrical strain in her nature led her to write quite sensitive poetry, reminiscent of Verlaine. Her biographer sees their origin in a secret love affair which was never revealed. In time, this became subsumed by a passionate love of nature and the sympathy to her less favoured fellow human beings. In the process of helping individual blind people across the road, Mademoiselle d'Herbemont was made aware by narrow scrapes which almost led to accidents, of the precarious situation of the visually impaired brought about by the steadily increasing traffic on the roads. She first spoke about measures to protect the blind against street hazards to her mother in 1930, but she was of the opinion that it was unfit for a lady of good society to create a public outcry and advised her to stick to the transcription of books, a popular pastime of ladies of rank at the time. Regards Wahid Raza -- Forwarded message -- Robotic navigation aids the visually impaired Compiled by Photonics Spectra staff LOS ANGELES - A robot vision-based mobility aid that was shown a year ago is now being further developed to help the visually impaired navigate city streets, neighborhoods, offices and other complex locations. This robotic navigation system has a binocular camera that is linked by sophisticated direction-finding software to a vest that directs the wearer around obstacles. Images courtesy of USC Viterbi School of Engineering. Most visually impaired people still rely on a very rudimentary technology - a simple cane - to navigate the world. Meanwhile, engineering researchers at the University of Southern California have developed software that sees the world. The software is linked to a system that provides tactile messages that alert users about objects in their paths, such as low-hanging branches. The system uses a camera that is worn on the head and connected to a PC that uses simultaneous localization and mapping software to build maps of the environment and to identify a safe path around obstacles. The route information is then conveyed to the user through a guide vest that has four micromotors located on the shoulder and waist. They vibrate like a cell phone. Simultaneous localization and mapping software analyzes data from stereo camera views (above) to create 3-D renderings of the scene (below) and to map a path through it. If a low-hanging branch, for example, is to the left of a visually impaired person, a micromotor will vibrate on the left shoulder. Scientists say that this technology, unlike a cane, will enable the user to avoid falls and other serious injuries when approaching larger objects. The researchers tested the system on blind subjects at the Braille Institute and received positive feedback. They are now working on ways to improve the prototype. Because the head-mounted camera is bulky, they are working on a microcamera system that could be attached to glasses. The goal is to have the system in place by the end of the year. Less bulky than the current head-mounted camera, the next-generation system the team is working on, pictured here, will use a microcamera that could be attached to glasses. Funding for the research - which will be used to help veterans who have been blinded during their military service - was provided by the National Science Foundation, the US Army and the W.M. Keck Foundation. --- Search for old postings at: http://www.mail-archive.com/accessindia@accessindia.org.in/ To unsubscribe send a message to accessindia-requ...@accessindia.org.in with the subject unsubscribe. Hiya Please find below my opinion about N86, as I had used it 6 months ago. N86 makes a good music phone, thanks to its dedicated music keys and its standard 3.5mm headphone jack, which means you can use your own headphones without an adaptor. It also has an FM radio and an Internet radio, with good podcast support. There's plenty of storage for all your tunes, with 8GB of internal memory and a microSD memory-card slot that supports up to 16GB more. It comes with stereo dual speakers with 3D and widening effects with loud and clear voice, talks sounds very good and supports Bluetooth A2DP. Syncing your music, videos and other data is fairly easy with the Nokia PC Suite software, which has been steadily improving over the years, advancing from crap to decent. It offers some great advantages, like the ability to sync over Bluetooth and type SMS messages on your computer before sending them to your phone, so you get to use a proper keyboard. But the music-manager part of PC Suite still doesn't compete with dedicated music software, so you might prefer to connect the N86 in mass-storage mode and sync your music with your favourite music software. That's also handy if you have a Mac, because PC Suite only works on PCs. There are sone apps and web browser, where 'Talks' doesn't support - which might be fixed in upcoming update of Talks. The Nokia N86 doesn't break much new ground and It's not as easy to use (most difficult to browse things) comparing to the N95, E90 or the N97, for example, but it really packs in the features, and, if you can find them, there are zillions of fantastic apps out there to make it even better. Best of all, for a phone, it takes excellent photos, with almost no shutter lag. As a top-of-the-line camera phone with all the power of a smart phone, I think the N86 is worth having. I think that there should be no separate staffroom for the teachers with visual impairment or any other disability. If there is one in any school/college, it should be strongly opposed. In my opinion, this is the main challenge before us. But in other hand, due to having visually challenged person, at present, I and lots of us have to face various problems in our working institutions, society and even our own family too, specially for getting equal opportunities with dignity and honor, making our personal identity for positive works etc. However, We must have to fight more against different type of exploitations with firmed decision and extraordinary patience because we are in minority and our any harsh behavior may give wrong message to any part of society, who use to try to generalize our any weakness with whole community of Visually challenged persons. Here, I would like to share some recent positive results with all of you. May be, some friends know this fact that my nearest bank Bank of Baroda Dilshad Garden Branch Delhi refused to provide me ATM/ Debit card and internetbanking facilities in August of last year. Now, after long positive fight against the negative attitude of the bank and interference of RBI (NEW DELHI BRANCH), my bank branch has issued me ATM/DEBIT CARD on today, although struggle against delaying for providing internetbanking facility is still continued. Another news, my present working school is running in four buildings and in where, we four Visually Challenged teachers are working at present. We all VH teachers have been compeled to take our classes at least in three buildings since long time. After completing long writing process to higher authorities of our Delhi Government, all classes, to which we VH teachers teach, have been shifted in one building and one separate Staff Room has also been alotted to us in same building in July of this year. Re: [AI] Wheelchairs rolled out at Ahmedabad railway station
We should try to pursuade al the state and the Railway Ministry to follow the examiple of Gujrat. Similar facilities for the physically challenged and very ill people should be available at all railway stations and at all the district bus stops. Mittal. - Original Message - From: Vishnu Ramchandani vishnu.ramchand...@mphasis.com To: accessindia@accessindia.org.in Sent: Friday, August 21, 2009 1:43 PM Subject: [AI] Wheelchairs rolled out at Ahmedabad railway station Ahmedabad: The next time you plan to travel by train with a very ill passenger or a physically challenged person, you can knock on the doors of Gujarat police for help. For, now the Government Railway Police (GRP) chowky, in the city will issue either a stretcher or a wheel chair to help you out.And these efforts are part of the Gujarat police's strategy to not only help railway commuters but also connect with the citizens. A private organisation has donated as many as 25 wheelchairs, 40 stretchers and over a thousand shrouds to the Gujarat Police which has eventually distributed it to all the railway stations from Vapi to Dwarka. This is an effort to increase the communication between the police and people. It will also help those travelling by train, director general of police, Gujarat state, SS Khandwawala told DNA. Khandwawala further said that the kin of a person who is in need of a stretcher or wheelchair will just have to go to the police chowky and he will be issued the required material. The person can make use of the stretcher or wheelchair and then return it to the chowky, he said. On why the shrouds will be needed, he said that as of now when someone is killed on the railway track, the various pieces of the body of the deceased are not collected properly. The police chowkies will be provided the shrouds so that the body of deceased is collected with due respect and no human rights violation takes place, he said. Though the major railway stations of the state have some wheelchairs and stretchers, most of the time they are broken or in a bad condition. The number of such wheelchairs and stretchers is also very less. With the police chowkies now providing the wheelchairs and stretchers, it will ease the burden for those travelling with a patient or a physically challenged person. A formal inauguration of the programme will be held at the Kalupur Railway Station on Saturday, wherein the senior cops of Gujarat police including Khandwawala will remain present. Before sensitize the world, it's important that our organizations should have better sensitization. Recently, I went to see someone at a very well known NGO in Bangalore and the way the security person spoke to me is rather annoying. Of course, since I know the people inside I manage to deal with him in a better way. But I'm really sorry that such attitude need to be changed. There would be lots of clients come from different sectors and some of them will come with lots of hopes for their rehabilitation. But such reception will lead them to panic and impact more on their disability. I'm sorry but in my view, no organization is doing any favor to people with disabilities - they are all equally paid well for their services by respective organizations and all of them are either received good grant from Government and in the form of public donations. Hence, they need to feel really responsible and better to be careful while dealing with candidates. I'm writing this here to see if we can collectively do something to bring change on this. Please approach the Chief Commitioner of Persons with Disabilities New Delhi and the State commitioner for Persons with Disabilities Chennai. Mittal. - Original Message - From: Saravanan Ramadoss saravanan.ramado...@gmail.com To: accessindia@accessindia.org.in Sent: Saturday, March 07, 2009 9:10 PM Subject: [AI] Shocking but true! Hello AI friends, This is my Visually-challenged friend's real story in Chennai. He needs your help guidance to get back his (P.F Graduvity) money. Subject: Shocking but true! Dear friend , I am blind person. First , I explain about myself. I completed three year diploma in mechanical engineering in 1991. after that, I faced low vision problem in which my center vision is normal but no side vision at that time in this condition reading and writing is not a problem for me. Because of this, I took technical teaching line in private industrial training institute. In 1998, I completed P G Diploma in A/C engineering. After that, I approached unaided ST JOSEPH TECHNICAL INSTITUTE which was run by Roman Catholic type Salesian DON BOSCO congregation group of Christian missionaries for appointment in A/C trade instructor post. I clearly giving my low vision problem and registered as a visually handicapped in employment exchange in my bio-data. After that, I was appointed as instructor in A/C trade in 1998 in their tempravery order they accept my visual impairness they seeks physical fitness certificate. Since my center vision is normal , I can able to produced that certificate then, I joined their as a instructor. After the management satisfaction My appointment was confirmed in 2000. in the beginning itself, I appointed to take the final year students. I produced more than 80 persent result. My job is smooth till may2003. After that another Christian priest FATHER took over as a principal. He asked me in view of decreasing condition of my low vision, I should tender my resignation . if not to do that, he threaten me to face the termination. But, I explain since my students 90 percent got passed in the All India level examination of National council of vocational training, New Delhi, under the Union ministry of labour. He refused to accept anything , he always seeks my resignation whenever a chance of talk with me . After some time, he looking for chance to scold me in front of student by telling student are sleeping in the class but I asked that boy why you are sleeping, he told me he is not sleeping, Further he added principal wants create embarrassment to me in front of students. Personally some students also acknowledge that version. This is the only one example of mental harassment. He gave the advertisement in INDIAN EXPRESS news paper on January2 2005 in which he seeks application for A/C trade instructor post but at that time no vacancies in that trade.(I have that paper cutting) in November 2003 he conduct seminar with tour for staff at that time , I asked him allow me to bring escort , he summarily reject my request and told me to report on specified date in YELAGIRI HILLS. So I spend my own money and bring my very old father (that blind concession ticket now with me)in November 2005 same type seminar with tour in TRICHY suddenly he cancelled the programme so I also cancelled the ticket (that blind cancelled concession ticket now with me). Both occasions other staffs traveling arranged by the management. This type mental harassment is exceeding limit so in 03-02-2008, I send advocate notice in which due to mental ill health condition created by mental harassment , I resign my job and take this as a one month notice effect from 21-01-08. But he in their reply since no proof to support allegation he totally refused all allegations and they asked me personally hand over the resignation then they told settlement amount at the time of resignation. So I go their on 18-02-08 and handed over my resignation letter stating I here by resign my post and settled the due amount without stating anything. Because my advocate says without strong proof case is not withstand in the court. because probably colleagues or students not willing to come forward before the court in support of me. again they send the letter on 4-03-08 in which they ask the same letter through the post. So I send the letter with some lines quoting harassment with reference of all the letters. Again they send the letter on10-04-08 in which they stated resignation only came in to effect from 18-02-08 and asked me withdraw all allegation then only resignation accepted and settlement possible for me. In my reply quoting the reference of their letter and stating that partially modification of my letter of resignation is not because of management problem. this last letter was received by them on May2 2008 till now no response from them still they withheld my money of rupees 2250(cumulated amount of rupees 25 per month for staff

Re: [AI] Elections
I fully agree with you madam Kanchan. I feel that not voting in any election whether parliament or assembly on local civic elections is equal to whowing disrespect to our motherland. Further for rights we must and must vote. Mittal. - Original Message - From: Pamnani kanchanpamn...@hotmail.com To: accessindia@accessindia.org.in Sent: Friday, February 13, 2009 5:38 AM Subject: [AI] Elections Hi I am starting this topic taking off from Rajesh and Sudhir's comments on the disabled being a class and that we do not vote. Cynics that we pride ourselves to be have to now adopt a new tact.So get out of being arm chair critics and commentators. Elections are around the corner and we all must vote. How you vote is not my concern but vote you must. Yes I am disabled so it is difficult for me to vote- getting someone to go with me to the booth, reading the names of the candidates, actually voting and then answering the questions of others and a bunch of other difficulties instead of enjoying my holiday. However if you dont go see what damage you will do: 1. The Bombay, Jharkhand High courts andthe Supreme court have ordered special facilities for the disabled. So please use them and dont waste them. 2.The Election Commission has constantly taken a stand that there are not many disabled who vote so we have to prove the EC wrong. this helps in making the facilities better for the next elections. 3. You are part of the numbers that make up a class so if we are a big class we get privileges in due course. Ensure that it is recorded that you are disabled when you vote. 4. If you want to be part of Society and you want to be treated as a part then do what everyone should be doing-voting. 5. We are educated and the part of the educated middle class that should rule but with our own apathy we lose our clout. Therefore we get the government we deserve. There may be several other reasons which I cant seem to remember this early in the morning. This year I hope not to hear from anybody on accessindia that they have not voted. Whats the point in being cynical about others including the government isnt it time we face ourselves and tried to push ourselves on this front as well. He required those details urgently, because he has to provide the evidence in Tamilnadu High-court first week of next month. To know more about his case, please read below. I request you all, please share this info with your friends help him to win the case. --- Respected sir, Subject: visually handicapped seeks legal ideas my name is sudarsanan. I am visually impaired person (partially blind). I completed my diploma in mechanical engineering in 1991 and diploma in refrigeration and air conditioning in 1998. I suffered genetic problem of retinitis pigmentosa in both eye during the period of End of 1980's (on set of disablitity is from 1983 as per medical panel report of vocational rehablitation center for handicapped by govt of india photocopy of report with me). They issued ID card in 1993. I registered as a partially blind in special employment exchange for handicapped in 1992. I took technical teaching line as a instructor (junior training officer) to teach in theoretical subjects in mechanical related trades like A/C mechanic, fitter, turners extra in director general of employment and training, new delhi, under union ministry of labour approved private industrial training institute from 1994. This post comes under the group C. In December 8, 2000 government of Tamil nadu announcing the recruitment of 237 junior training officer post in government run industrial training institutes by diploma holders on the basis of seniority in employment exchanges. So as per equal oppurtutinities of people with disability act 1995 they should give 3% for handicapped persons that is 1% for ortho 1% for hearing impaired 1% for visually impaired which means two posts must be allocated for visually handicapped persons. I approached the appointing authority of above said post director of employment and training through the letter in January 2001. they didn't respond to me so , I sent advocate notice to them. After that they stating that allotted 6 post for physically handicapped is sponsored up to 1985, your seniority comes only 1992 because of that you are not considered for sponsoring. But they didn't answer how many visually handicapped persons appointed? So I approach madras high court for justice by filing writ petition in 2001 but it was dismissed because of the technical ground that petitioners not challenge the lack of seniority reason of the government side reply so that writ petition is not sustainable and petitioner given liberty file another writ petition. In such situation one advocate firm comes to help me with the help of that firm I filed another writ petition in 2003, It was again dismissed on petitioner does not able to clear what statutory provision the petitioner have irrespective of seniority government side bound to sponsored him?but section 33 clearly says 3% quota for disabled and section 36 clearly says if no disabled person is found in recruiting year it should be carry forward in to next years successively in pwd act. Both writ petition does not give answer about 1% visually handicapped quota. So I filed another writ appeal in 2004. Mean time, I approached the director of employment and training in 2007 asking information about how many visually handicapped person appointed in junior training officer post under the right to information act 2005 they told in their letter no visually handicapped persons appointed because of their inability further they say visually handicapped quota is filled by the normal person. Now it very clear they did not follow 1% quota for visually handicapped persons.on19-01-09 present writ appeal came for final hearing court accept our above said matter is accepted and directed them to submit seniority of ph persons and next hearing posted for first week of feb 2009.with my present vision , I can able to write and draw the diagram in the black board. our advocate says during the argument time they might raise inability issue. I here by asking our visually impaired friends for guidance in the above matter. Kindly note above stated matter is in court so please take this as personal. I want to know any visually handicapped person working as a junior training officer or instructor in government industrial training institute or related sectors if

Re: [AI] What we call ourself!
Dear George I feel a person who is blind should be referred as a person with blindness/a person with visual impairment/a person with vision impairment. This is my personal view as a communicator that people without sight must be referred to as Blind person or as blind people and not as a blind. Can you please tell me the cost of N79? Please write to me on my personal e-mail id srmit...@gmail.com rgds Mittal. - Original Message - From: Manish Agrawal manis...@gmail.com To: accessindia@accessindia.org.in Sent: Wednesday, January 07, 2009 3:20 PM Subject: Re: [AI] a way finder access experience on a trip to Jaipurr I recently purchased a Nokia N79, which also has an internal GPS. My experience with the internal GPS has been pretty good so far. It picks up the signal just as fast as my external globalSat receiver and I do not need to keep the phone next to the car window or anything. I've had about 3 long rides to new destinations purely dependent on the gps so far and all have been successful. The drain on the battery (which is definitely not significant) is something I can live with for the luxury of not having to carry 2 separate devices. This phone is newer than the n82, so, there may have been an improvement...or maybe I've just been lucky so far. I can confirm that at this point of time, an external receiver is much better. Internal receivers take a lot of time to obtain a fix. Further, when you are travelling in a car or a bus, keeping the phone in your pocket effects the accuracy of the GPS data drastically. Regards, Kiran. Re: [AI] braille in different languages
Dear Mr. Subramani. Braile is a script based on phonetics. To explain this take the example of letter b In Hindi it is the sound ba, in Urdu it gives the sound bae and so on. This sound is represented by letter b i.e. dots 1 and 2. Similarly, the sound ka is represented by dots 1 and 3 whether it is in Hindi/urdu/Bengali/gujrati etc. The advantage of this is that even if a person does not know any language yet he will be able to read it to a large extent. Yes it is very much official. Infact, The Ministry Of Social Justice And Empowerment (MOSJE), Govt of India is organizing a very big function on 4th Jan 2009 at Vigyan Bhawan to mark the 200th Birth day Of Louis Braille and the coin will be released in that function. Hi folks ! A young friend planning to take the MAT conducted by the All India Management Association reports that she is finding it difficult to get a suitable response from the authorities for her requests to be sanctioned a scribe. Initially, the form that one needs to fill up while registering for the test had no provision to include this request. So, she sent many mails to the contact email id given on the Prospectus making her request, but, has not received any response so far. Unfortunately, the prospectus does not contain any telephone numbers where she could get help. She is growing tense as the exam is scheduled for this Sunday, Dec 7, 2008. Would appreciate if anyone, particularly those who have already written MAT, could guide us on what to do. Pl share your experiences, any contact ids or telephone numbers of administrators etc which would help us resolve this issue in the next two days. An early reply would be highly appreciated. Re: [AI] Enough is Enough
Dear Kanchanji. I more than hundred percent agree with you. I would further like to add that if any body asks something then the list members must respond to him only and not to the list. With regards yours sincerely Mittal. - Original Message - From: Pamnani [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: accessindia@accessindia.org.in Sent: Friday, October 17, 2008 6:18 AM Subject: [AI] Enough is Enough Dear Friends I have been travelling a lot recently and I cant cope up with the traffic on this list. I am not able to reply to many mails that are specifically addressed to me through this list. Of course this is my problem. I have also found that this is a problem a lot of us have to face. Even an important matter from Rajesh gets ignored because of the same problem. So it is not my problem alone it is the group's problem and we better all work to solve it or we will have a very serious problem of the list becoming reduntant. it is disgusting the way we are going on this list. There are 3 issues today that have upset me. 1. Introduction. We all know the rules. The new member must introduce himself/herself. We love having new members and we welcome them all. Do we all have to write individual emails to the group to welcome them-no we dont!. There were atleast 6 mails this morning welcoming Ayesha. Why could each of you not write directly to her and leave us out? How many times do you need to be reminded. 2. Congratulations to the Moderator. Yes we are proud of Harish and we are happy that Rajesh informed us but do we have to congratulate Harish on the list? Are we going to score brownie points with him that we dont mind troubling others? Please learn to congratulate him and others on their success off the list and give us a break. 3. Rudeness I have read the entire exchange on E51 and it is not nice. Cut out the acrimony It does not help the list and people like me who seriously read it. there are several small issues like I read a mail I think 2 days ago requesting for some infromation which was signed of with the words Reply will be rewarded. Please understand that those who reply to a query are doing you a favour you cannot demand an answer nor can you force others to answer you. You are not the king of some . who is going to reward the person who replies on time or who replies properly. This list and others like it work on goodwill. Please do not abuse it. I have spoken to several of youll on these issues and you have informed me that you read selectively and delete a lot of mails and in the process you sometimes miss mail and dont help others. This selective deletion is done based on the name of the sender or because of topic or due to your time constraints or because you know that the sender is going to send an email with wrong grammer and spellings and it is very difficult to read with a screen reader however you all agree if there was less junk mail you would read more and probably contribute more. Leave it to the moderator to handle the basic issues and do what you think is right. Treat this list as a resource and not as your dustbin. If you agree or disagree with me then please do so off the list this mail is of no consequence to others and it wont add to anyone's knowledge. Sorry for venting my thoughts .
