Dear Vishal,
We do not provide courses. Our concept is at variance with
that of the typical NGO. Most NGOs provide services for individual
blind persons; we provide services for Instituions. We have helped
develop the syllabus for computer literacy, but do not run the
courses. We assist many other Institutions by sharing our resources.
So we encourage many NGOs or schools to refine their existing computer
programmes or to commence new programmes where none were running
earlier. We offer this assistance as long as the beneficiary
institution wants & there are no charges.
We are unaware of anyone running online courses.
  with best wishes
  yours sincerely

Thank you Pradeep Kapoor sir for the information.
Do you train the teachers of the NGO's or just provide assistance in
developing the syllabus according to their needs.
I would request you to send me your website address (if any) and contact
number.
I will forward this information to the NGO with which I am associated. They
are planning to expand their computer lab.

2007-01-23 Thread Subramani L
Dear Col. Kapoor:

Just out of curiosity, I would like to know if you also support
non-technical educational initiatives that may otherwise help awareness
about disability?

I am asking this specifically because including information about
disability in textbooks, as someone mentioned in a seminar recently in
Bangalore, will give a fair understanding about PWD's and the issues
connected with them. This will also help us create an informed society
(with respect to disability) for the future. Aren't you interested in a
broader initiative like that, where technology can certainly component?

Since you have done syllabus development, you seem to be in a better
position to take up an initiative like this as well. Or at least that is
what I think when I read your mail.

Dear Colonel Kapoor

Thanks for your email...
The pre-requisites have been evolved (since we have limited seats) to
benefit adults who are looking for employment after their computer
education. The course has rigorous amount of practical exercises and
especially gives exposure to exceptions which will occur in real life
situations at work. Apart from computers, students also develop English,
analytical skills and self awareness.

We have also taught students who come from a rural background and they have
shown the same level of intelligence as anybody else and have a real desire
to learn. The objective of that course was difference. It was for providing
literacy and using computers as a tool for secondary education.

Having said the above, we are always looking to learn and share from
everyone to provide benefit to persons with disability. Let us talk offline
to learn from your vast experience Have enclosed postal address info in

Dear Vidya Lakshmi,
My organisation `Volunteers for the Blind Foundation` has been
involved with computer literacy programmes for the blind since the
past 12 yrs.
We have developed two modules for teaching basic computer
skills. One, is executed 6 hours a day for three months, six days a
week & the other for 2 hours per day for five months, six days a week.
So why should you have 6-8 months? Further, we developed multiple
tests during these modules. Tests, as you are aware, are crucial for
assimilation of knowlege. Further, our criteria is - a working
knowlege of English, typing speed of 25 words per minute & have passed
std 6. We have easily handled students with a rural background & most
students had been motivated enough to brush aside the difficulties of
hearing an american accent while they could barely speak the language.
The course content includes office management skills. The results have
been very encouraging.
Your prerequisites are tougher & the course longer. Would you
like to review these requirements ? Could you also please send your
postal address?

Could you also please send your
postal address?
  with best wishes
 yours sincerely
