Re: [AI] currency notes and accessibility
Agree on that george (but it might be difficult to select other national figures) I think Dipendra's suggestion of having different types of cuts for various denominations on corners is quite good and may also be considered in addition to your suggestions, it's both easily detectable and maintainable for a long run. - Original Message - From: "George Abraham" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Chetan Sharma" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>; Sent: Monday, October 02, 2006 8:48 AM Subject: Re: [AI] currency notes and accessibility >I have found the currency notes of Australia most accessible. Re: [AI] currency notes and accessibility
I have found the currency notes of Australia most accessible. The salient features that struck me are 1. The denominations written in large print without any stylised type style 2. Significant difference in size 3. Significant difference in texture In addition, there is no need for Mahathma Gandhi to be on all denominations. We can have different National Icons on different denominations These are just a few off the bat responses. Sorry for this delay in writing. Regards, George - Original Message - From: "Chetan Sharma" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Sent: Thursday, September 28, 2006 12:05 PM Subject: [AI] currency notes and accessibility Hello friends, We, through a Jaipur based NGO, are planning to submit a representation to Reserve Bank of India, to add more accessibility features in currency notes. As we all know, RBI has incorporated a slightly embossed triangle on the top of 100 Rupee note and a circle on 500 Rupee note. This triangle or circle can be felt on new currency notes of respective denomination. I invite your valuable suggestions to make currency notes more accessible or identifiable for VIs. What precisely can be done to make currency notes easily identifiable, is there any country which has taken a lead in this area, What is the experience of VIs there, Etc. Hai Chetan: This would be extremely useful for my research. Therefore, pl send me a copy. However, if you are sending it to the list straight. Pl don't bother. Though this is a good news, don't you think documents such as this must be available with each individual bank so that all the staff will know how they can handle a person VI coming to operate an a/c? Also what is RBI's problem in approving these guidelines, if they find it good enough? Re: [AI] currency notes and accessibility
Yes, they should. According to CCPD decision as well as hopefully according to pending high court case of Mr. Pincha, RBI is dutybound to promulgate non-discriminatory guidelines for VIPs for handling accounts. Unfortunately in our country pervading apathy even to court decisions is working to the detriment of many, not to mention VIPs who due to their lack of any pressure group and capacity to lobby are the worst hit. In all the bombastic talk of so-called financial inclusion, there is no mention of Visually impaired or disabled at large. Re: [AI] currency notes and accessibility
But Rajesh: Is there any way to make sure that the RBI comes up with specific guidelines for VIP's in handling bank a/c's. Because, I feel unless they do that, we will have to accept all arbitrary rules and change of rules by individual bank official, who, of course, can't be blamed for that because they always tend to be over cautious. Re: [AI] currency notes and accessibility
No dots or embossed triangle can face the tight and damp pockets. According to me the different cuts of four corners is the onlhy foolproof solution coupled with different sizes. Rounded edges, diagnally cut edges or normal sharp corners as we have in every bill. Hello Accessindia, I think it will be not easy task to identify circle and triangle for some blind people. So RBI should also introduce Braile dots in every currency as it will be more easy to identify the currency and it will also not effect other people. [AI] currency notes and accessibility
Hello friends, We, through a Jaipur based NGO, are planning to submit a representation to Reserve Bank of India, to add more accessibility features in currency notes. With Regards, Chetan Sharma Manager, Regional Office Oriental Bank of commerce Second floor Anand Bhawan Sansar Chandra Road Jaipur 302001 Ph: 91-141-2314662 Fx: 91-141-2365315 Hand Phone: (0)9414323675 To unsubscribe send a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the subject unsubscribe.
