I don't want to inflame the debate about VI vi marriage. However, Visual impairment is not the guarantee of mutual understanding. Besides, we cannot ignore genetic, problems and greater chance of their occurrence. Here also, all three daughters are VI. Further, taking into account inaccessibility of infrastructure and services in general for an average VI, the prospect horrifies me, though two of my elder sisters are leading a satisfactory life in VI VI matches. Anyway, to reduce genetic possibilities of disability, in our family we have been successfully trying a Unani medicine, about which I have written several times in AI. Whatever the punishment, blindness of the victims should be an aggravating factor while convicting and punishing the culprits. Let us see if courts think it is. However, am not sure whether it will put the case in the rarest of the rare category for which only, the capital punishment is warranted in our country. Death sentence of even karlanji convicts is commuted by high court, so cannot really hope for capital sentence. News report mentions age of the couple as 52 and 50 so why old age? VC with VC is a courageous match, but vulnerability is of course greater. true, that presence of sight does not always avert such brutality, however, absence of sight surely facilitates it, making us more vulnerable. Re: [AI] Blind couple found murdered, tenant missing
Hmm, Personally I’m not much acquainted with blind couples, or even much of blind people in general, but what I’d like to say is that blindness doesn’t look like a reason for all of this bad incident to me. being a delhiIght, I keep coming across to a lot of such news in delhi itself where landlords are being murdered/exploited/annoyed by tenants. Further, horde of wrongful acts are done by home servants too. So, incidents like these are pretty general around us unfortunately and therefore, this should not be seen a blindness specific one. As I said, I don’t know of blind couple, but I’m agreed to what said by Prateek, that whatever you decide, your decision should not be based merely on this stupid awful reason. In fact, I wonder, a match of V I with a V I in terms of life partner should be wonderful! Who else may be a better companion if he knows all of your problems and their solutions too! At least, they know all the common difficulties of each others so, one won’t need to feel impaired while expressing the regular stuff. Looks like they can set a nice chemistry. I’m highly amazed to read about this family. A couple, 3 daughters, all blind, but well settled! Guys, Wonder, isn’t it? Salute the couple! May your souls rest in piece. Aisha sahani. Re: [AI] Blind couple found murdered, tenant missing
Hello all, The incident is really unfortunate. My deepest condolence to the affected family. Folks, though we all are upset because the couple was blind, but I think, the incident taken place was more of a desire of stealing money and jewelry Blindness may be one aspect, but its not at all the only reason for it. I say this very confidently, because over the years I read few incidents where tenants/home servants attempts crime for robbing purposes, and it really doesn’t matter, either or not you have sight. I think, we come across crime news everyday in the city column of your news paper, in the news at prime times or else. A number of people are daily affected by these kinds of ill desires, and most of the times, they are those, who have sight. So, of course we are sad because the victim were our community people, but it should not be seen as a reason of the whole episode. I wanted to emphasize this, because I’ve heard someone saying on the list that the incident has discouraged him to appreciate the idea of a VI marrying VI. I don’t want to get into debate whether or not a VI should marry VI, but what I say is, that its not at all related to these occasional bad incidents, so denying any such relations should not be based merely on this risk. In fact, stuff like these are getting very common in the world over, so I suggest, let’s not get cynical about it. Please note that I fully understand your statement and the reason of writing this mail is just to cast my personal views rather challenging anyone’s opinion. I think it will be very low. But one precaution which can be taken is to avoid keeping valuables in the house, unless it is required. My father forced me several times to wear a gold ornament , but I always refuse it because of my disability. I think both the property and my life would be at risk if I carry valuables with me. Cash and jewellery worth of lakhs of rupees are missing from the spot. The prime suspect, tenant of the deceased, is absconding. Police said the tenant was not verified. A senior police official said, "We received a call from neighbours on Tuesday morning. The deceased have been identified as Rajendra Verma (52) and Shobha Verma (50). Teams have been formed and investigation is on to nab the culprits." The couple stayed in house number 137, Janta flat of Vivek Vihar while their tenant stayed on the first floor. They had been living there since July 17 this year. The tenants were introduced to the couple by Sushma, a neighbour of the deceased. The deceased had three daughters identified as Hema (19), Leena (20) and Neena (22). All three are blind and married. "On Tuesday morning, I made a call to my parents. Despite several attempts when no answer was received, I made a call to Satya Devi, a neighbour of my parents. I told her to convey my message to my parents. Re: [AI] Blind couple found murdered, tenant missing
Having read about crimes and interacted with folks who report them on a daily basis, I feel there is no protection to individuals beyond a point. Unfortunately, even if you do not interact with anyone, you are watched by a pair of eyes who don't know and if that belonged to someone with a criminal intent, then there is risk for you. Remain highly cautious, especially when you are blind and also try not to boast about your posessions or properties in a public place or in front of strangers. Well, this is only to be cautious. In fact, this should be measured in percentage with the number of couples, especially old aged, who are murdered in an year in the country. I think it will be very low. But one precaution which can be taken is to avoid keeping valuables in the house, unless it is required. My father forced me several times to wear a gold ornament , but I always refuse it because of my disability. I think both the property and my life would be at risk if I carry valuables with me. Re: [AI] Blind couple found murdered, tenant missing
Out of my personal observation More than blindness the old age was the ... But blindness can not be ignored. And I am a little discouraged for VC marrying VC however before the accident I was of the view that VC with VC would make the best match. I'll take time to get to normal state of mind so please ignore if you don't agree to my view point. -Original Message- From: accessindia-boun...@accessindia.org.in [mailto:accessindia-boun...@accessindia.org.in] On Behalf Of Subramani L Sent: Wednesday, August 11, 2010 8:28 PM To: accessindia@accessindia.org.in Subject: Re: [AI] Blind couple found murdered, tenant missing Hope this doesn't discourage VC men from marrying VC women. Rajendra Verma had opted for a voluntary retirement from JNU. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem." Additional DCP (East) DK Gupta said, "Prima facie, it seems to be a case of loot. The key suspect in the case are deceased's tenant and his associate, who are absconding from the scene after the incident. Both are natives of Uttar Pradesh. When Satya Devi reached my parent's residence, she found their bodies and raised an alarm. Police was informed," said Hema. One of the suspects identified as Ashwini, who works at a call centre in Noida, was spotted by residents around 1 am smoking but was not seen after that. An amount of `50,000 and some jewellery was found missing from the house, they said. http://www.dailypioneer.com/275431/Blind-couple-found-murdered-tenant-missin g.html Vikas Kapoor, MSN Id:dl_vi...@hotmail.com, Yahoo&Skype Id: dl_vikas, Mobile: (+91) 9891098137.
