How about snail mail--the ordinary postal mailing system. Sometimes the easiest
of ideas just skip from our minds...

Re: [AI] Making of a WhatsApp group containing all the members of the access India mailing list

2019-03-27 Thread Shadab Husain
One bright sunny day, two friends, Ramu and Shamu, went hiking in the
fresh mountain air. They spotted a tiger drinking water from a stream
far in the distance.

Ramu said to climb up on the walnut tree, but Shamu, pointing to his
right, said, "I think that banyan tree would be better."

"No," frowning, said Ramu, "coconut."

A long debate discussing the pros and cons of both the trees sparked
off. Tiger came dangerously close...

Hmm, email or Whatsapp. Scores of far more important issues are lying
unaddressed: Marriage for the blind, fake disability certificates,
greater accessibility, education etc., and here we're
having deep deliberations on a nonissue.

Astounding, isn’t it?

Whoever prefers Whatsapp can make a group and post it here; interested
people are free to join. Let's put a full stop at this discussion of
“so serious a nature.”

Tiger is coming close.

Re: [AI] Making of a WhatsApp group containing all the members of the access India mailing list

2019-03-27 Thread Prerna Sobti
Hi

If a group is made on WhatsApp, first everybody will not be interested in
sharing the numbers, initially everybody is very excited and participates in
the group but later on it becomes a dead group! That’s my personal experience,
as already shared here, parallel discussions cannot happen in WhatsApp group
which is so easily possible on email threads!
However, respecting all the people who want a WhatsApp group to be made a group
can be created for such people if they wish to I am sure a lot of friendships
are already there through this group and some small groups are already working
I am happier with email!

Re: [AI] Making of a WhatsApp group containing all the members of the access India mailing list

2019-03-27 Thread Saloni Mehta
There is one issue with WhatsApp that no one here seems to be talking about
- you can't have parallel conversations on multiple topics.
It's something that email uniquely allows - threads. Which seems to be very
important for communication on access India.

Some other mobile platforms like slack and flock allow it as well. But they
aren't free, and probably not accessible either.

Dear members,
I feel that any of the social media including whatsapp may be helpful
for sharing wishes or some small messages. however, in my personal
experience tells me that email is well suited to the visually
challenged people to have longer conversation. when I am using
talkback for reading whatsapp messages which are longer sometimes may
not be possible. further, it is too difficult to simultaneous
discussions together in the whatsapp group.above all, the group
members are limited to around 250. Hence I suggest there is no
requirement of AI Whatsapp group.
however, I have one request to AI admin as well as our members to have
common database of our members and depending upon the requirement of
any member, admin may share it.

2019-03-26 Thread Amar Jain
Neha,

Your thought process is good. But the problem is of ensuring quality control.
The more faster the modes of communication have become, people have all the
more stopped using their brains in the kind of information sharing.

This is not to say that Whats App is bad, we have seen many groups where
discussions have been focussed and qualitative. But considering the size of
this group, it may just not be a managable task.

Absolutely not.

AccessIndia has its identity on e mail and whatsapp cannot accommodate us
all in a single group.
Moreover I believe whatsapp cannot enhance better communication
standards"" as alleged, on the other hand, whatsapp has devalued them
substantially.

I don't also subscribe to the view that whatsapp is more handy and so on.

Re: [AI] Making of a WhatsApp group containing all the members of the access India mailing list

2019-03-26 Thread Shreedhar TS.
Completely agreed. Even email is handy these days. One can configure N
number of email IDs in mobile device. I feel having a whatsapp group
is not a good idea, perhaps would be over-burdoned with so many long
voice notes in whatsapp group.

Yes agree with the idea.
But instead of Whatsapp, its better to have group on Telegram which
has become accessible recently in it's beta version.

Re: [AI] Making of a WhatsApp group containing all the members of the access India mailing list

2019-03-26 Thread Ravi N. Hiremath
Hi, creation of a whatsapp group is welcome, and I'm with it, I agree with it.
As already some of the members on this list have pointed the other
side of it also, it's a bit doubtful.
It would be benificial and expand communication quick and instant,
hope some one will take the responsibility and do it.
Further, as pointed by some one on this list, it's not at all, tedious
or hard or difficult in today's developped accessibility to type long
messages on our phones.
It's easier than ever, with much advanced voice typing technology, it
may not be difficulty at all, it's not to me.
Finally, creation of whatsapp group is welcome and good, however, as
the mejority is towards the against people, their points may get good
importance here.
Thank you.

2019-03-26 Thread shankar.c
Wasim,
Correct, we can expand our communications with the WhatsApp groups. But,
since this list is being owned and maintained by Harish and Kiran Kaja sir,
they must discuss and take the initiatives.
Some times, It may lead to legal issues if any 1 of us create the group with
the name access India except those 2 people.

Re: [AI] Making of a WhatsApp group containing all the members of the access India mailing list

2019-03-26 Thread Aziz Minat
There are two sides to it:
1. It will make AI handy
2. But at the cost of privacy and formal communication. Mailing is more
formal hence more productive. One informal group can be started but not
considering AI. Access India has a mailing list identity and it shouldn't
be Tampaed with.
And as far as someone talked about telegram, I was wondering how much
accessible telegram is with screen readers considering my previous
experiences on it I doubt

Re: [AI] Making of a WhatsApp group containing all the members of the access India mailing list

2019-03-25 Thread Amit Bhatt

I endorse your opinion.

By creating such group on whatsap or instagram, we will lose the
significants of a mailing list.

This would be a tedious practise to post long and detailed messages using
mobile devices. You cannot enjoy the writing on mobile device which you do
enjoy using your PC.

Beside this, it would be an extra burdon on moble to clutter with so many
voice notes and chats.

Absolutely not.

AccessIndia has its identity on e mail and whatsapp cannot accommodate us all
in a single group.
Moreover I believe whatsapp cannot enhance better communication standards"" as
alleged, on the other hand, whatsapp has devalued them substantially.

I don't also subscribe to the view that whatsapp is more handy and so on.

This is just my opinion.
Already, there are couple of WhatsApp groups running across the country for

This list contains almost 1000 subscribers and, you may not accommodate

Also, there might be a chances of misusing the contact numbers of the

This is with reference to creating a WhatsApp group consisting of all the
members of the access India mailing list Yes no doubt today emails and of
great significance but after WhatsApp has come in I thought it would be
better also to have a WhatsApp group in order to enhance better
communication standards Please let me know as to how this idea works out and
in my opinion there should be a WhatsApp group With regards
