Re: [AI] Map data for Ovi maps
Hi Divyanshu, If you have ovi maps 3.03/3.04 in E5, then the following should work, not sure for other versions but guess the logic should be the same. If you are at a place which you want to save, do one of the following: 1. Go to GPS data - Positioning. If Talks/Mobile Speak says the co-ordinates of the place, that means you are connected to the satellite. Here go to options, in save position, and key in the name of the place and do ok. 2. While in maps, you know your GPS receiver is connected to the satellite, go in My Position, and press the centre button and go in save place. Key in the name and do OK. 3. When in drive mode in maps, you want to save a place that you have reached on the way, press number 2 and it asks you the name of the place. You can also save a place which you found using the find place/search feature in maps by pressing the centre button and hitting enter on the save place item. If you know the langitude longitude of a place, you can also save it by going in the Landmarks in menu, go in options, and go in enter new landmark - manually. best, Pranay. - Original Message - From: Divyanshu Ganatra dngana...@gmail.com To: accessindia@accessindia.org.in Sent: Monday, April 16, 2012 7:36 AM Subject: Re: [AI] Map data for Ovi maps Hi Pranay, Thank you for uploading the map data file. its very useful .. could you please tell me how to save a landmark in ovi maps using nokia e5? Re: [AI] Map data for Ovi maps
Hi Rohiet, I would not remember the exact steps to be followed the first time you do it, as later on I have to just press synchronise and it does the rest. Below are the steps I believe it would have taken me through. To synchronise you would need an account on ovi.com. If you do not have one, go and create one. Then, go in your maps - favourites, synchronize. Press enter on synchronize. It would go online using the default internet access point you set in the map settings. Since you would do it for the first time, it would ask you for your ovi log in name and password. Fill it and do ok. It should start synchronising and do it in few seconds. After finishing, it also stamps it with the date and time you last synchronised. That's it. The next time you press enter on synchronise, it does the rest automatically. thanks, Pranay. - Original Message - From: Rohiet A. Re: [AI] Map data for Ovi maps
Hi, Hozefa: Replacing your map data does not affect the places you have saved in favourites. But for other reasons its good to take its back up. You can do so by using the synchronise feature in favourites. For this you need to have an ovi account which you use to log in. This would be useful when you want to get your favourites back after formatting, or in a new phone. Srikanth: I do not know if it would work in BEL version of nokia phones. As mentioned I have seen its compatiblility in phones which have ovi maps 3.03/3.04, and Manish of Delhi reported it worked well with 3.01, which are not BEL versions. You will have to take your call if you want to experiment. thanks, Pranay. - Original Message - From: Hozefa Tambawala starh...@gmail.com To: accessindia@accessindia.org.in Sent: Saturday, April 14, 2012 3:59 PM Subject: Re: [AI] Map data for Ovi maps Thanks very much Pranay for this great contribution. Thanks Pranay. On 4/14/12, Pranay Gadodia pranaygado...@gmail.com wrote: Hi, Hozefa: Replacing your map data does not affect the places you have saved in favourites. Re: [AI] Map data for Ovi maps
Dear pranav, I recently purchased the nokia E5, and wished to download the map data on to my phone for off line use. i went through the old posting in which you had sent a link to download the same from sendspace. however, the link seems to have expired. will it be possible for you or someone else on this list to re upload the same? it will be greatly appreciated. Also i see more than 16 folders in the subfolder under cities. is that all right? do i simply overwrite the 16 folders you mentioned in your mail? Thank you once again. Divyanshu On 4/14/11, Pranay Gadodia go4pran...@yahoo.co.in wrote: Hi all, Few days ago I downloaded the map data of India for Ovi Maps software version 3.03 using the Nokia map downloader software on the PC. Though it was downloaded for Nokia C5, pasting it in couple of other Nokia phones with Ovi maps 3.03 and 3.04 also worked. Having the map data offline in the phone not only saves GPRS costs but also Ovi maps software responds faster during navigation etc. As Map downloader is completely inaccessible to jaws and I had to use my little residual vision to do it, so thought to share the data with the group Make sure your phone has Ovi Maps version 3.03 or 3.04. I haven't checked putting this data for map versions lower and higher than this. Its a 143 MB zip file, which after inflating would take around 172 MB space in your phone memory card. File name: 35415 India maps.zip Description: Map data for Ovi maps software version 3.03 3.04 Download link: http://www.sendspace.com/file/gpyhga After downloading it in your PC, unzip it. It has 16 folders. Connect your phone to PC through USB in mass storage mode. Go to your memory card, and locate a folder called CITIES. Inside cities, go in the folder called 'diskcache'. As a fallback to your original you might like to move these 16 folders at another location in your computer, before copying the downloaded ones in to your phone. I don't know what all discussion have taken place, looking at the subject all I can say is that if you need to know how to download OVI Map data using OVI suite, then I can help. Recommended that you have Jaws 13 with you for that. I am just waiting for accessibility of OVI Maps 3.6 with mobile speak, once it comes out I will learn how to use it. Rohiet, I think it is available on the nokia website. I remember seeing one of their webpages, where you select your phone and it gives you the link to download the latest ovi map software for your phone. But mind you, this page too was completely inaccessible with jaws, you would need sighted assistance. Since now there are so many users of nokia c5, may be someone can download the software and upload it on a file sharing site and share the link with the group. thanks, Pranay. - Original Message - From: Rohiet A. So if you want to search some place in another city or state, first search the city or state name and arrow down to the desired result. Here press key1 which would change your maps focus to that city/state. Then again go in the menu by key 2, then in find place, and type the name of your desired place and press search. Here you might see the desired place as one of result items. If so, press the centre key which gives you options. choose walk to or drive to or save place to your favourites etc. It would start giving you voice guidance if your GPS is connected with satellites. This way is specially helpful when you are searching say for any restaurant, any ATM, a temple, a specific road in another city. I haven't seen their help document if any available online, but have discovered the above way working well in ovi 3.03. thanks, Pranay Gadodia | Programme Manager Project Eyeway - A knowledge resource for living a fuller life with vision loss C/o Score Foundation, 17/107, Basement, Vikram Vihar, Lajpatnagar 4, New Delhi 110024, INDIA. In terms of searching a destenation, u can do following. Go to maps aplication. Click on drive or walk, whatever u preffer. E.g. If u click on drive, u'l get the following: drive home, set destenation, from maps, etc. Note: do not silect map option, as it is not accsessible. Click on set destenation. Then u will get options such as history, search, etc. If u click on history, u will then land up in favourates, where ur history of visited places is kept, if u have saved if before. For now click on search, after which a search box will appear. Now for e.g, if u wana search for parksite colony, within vikroli, u can type vikroli, parksite colony, in this case. If u know the postal coad, which in this example should be 400079. Otherwise, u can browse catagories, and and search accordingly. Re: [AI] Map data for Ovi maps
Hi, In the search result the places are listed as per their distance from your current location, starting with the nearest ending with the farthest place. Hi, Yes, you should copy the folders from 0 to F and I would suggest that you first cut the existing folders from your memory card and then copy these folders from the zip file uploaded by Pranay. It has 16 folders. Connect your phone to PC through USB in mass storage mode. Go to your memory card, and locate a folder called CITIES. Inside cities, go in the folder called 'diskcache'. Here you would find same 16 folders apart from others. But their total size would be much less than 172 MB. As a fallback to your original you might like to move these 16 folders at another location in your computer, before copying the downloaded ones in to your phone. Once you have copied this data, unplug your phone from the computer, open Ovi maps and search for cities/states you haven't searched or seen in it before. If it is working fine, which I believe it should, it should show those maps instantly without the need to download map data of those places using GPRS. thanks, Pranay. Map deta will work in N70 please respond thanks. - Original Message - From: Pranay Gadodia go4pran...@yahoo.co.in To: accessindia@accessindia.org.in Sent: Thursday, April 14, 2011 12:57 AM Subject: [AI] Map data for Ovi maps Hi all, Few days ago I downloaded the map data of India for Ovi Maps software version 3.03 using the Nokia map downloader software on the PC. Re: [AI] Map data for Ovi maps
Note: if u haven't visited map option, u may not find cities folder in ur memory card. But don't worry! U can manually creat this folder in ur memory card. Or, clicking on maps may creat this folder automatically. The reason y it creates cities folder, without downloading maps, so that it can store the history of activities, or the guidance which u download. With best regards, bhavesh.
