Re: [AI] Need your guidance/suggestions

2007-01-20 Thread S.S PATHAK
Hello Dinesh & others,

Thanks a lot for your valuable suggestions/guidance. I did check my PC and
found that there is no virus in it. Finally, I concluded that there may be
some misutilization at somewhere end and I arranged for discontinuation of
Broad Band. Now I am using dial up connection till alternative arrangement.

Warm regards.

Hello Sir,

I am not sure about other broadband connection but MTNL connection can be
used from any location. If someone has a MTNL broadband connection and
He/she wants to use other user name and password of MTNL then it is
possible. Sify broadband connection can be also used from different
locations. Note that same connection can not be used at a time by two users.

Re: [AI] Need your guidance/suggestions

2007-01-16 Thread Vikas Kapoor
No sir, you are wrong. if you have a BSNL or MTNL broadband connection at
your telephone line, then you can access any account using the correct
username and password, the only condition is that the same username and
password cannot be accessed at the same time from two lines simultaneously.
Although this system is still continuing, the MTNL officials are in their
final stage to close this system, because what people generally do, they
have one connection which is of an unlimited nature at their offices and the
same connection they use at home too, which is certainly causing a huge
revenue loss to the MTNL. once a MTNL SDO himself clarified that to me and
he also said that soon this sort of system was going to be done away with.

That's what I thought. In fact let's remember that the phone line doesn't
come from a vacuum. Rather it is also controlled by a central exchange and
customer phone lines have been used by the employees in the past and that
could very well be repeated here.

2007-01-16 Thread Vedprakash Sharma
although I am not bsnl or mtnl user, but i have come to know that broadband
facility cannot be accessed from any other line except that of the customer.
they have auser Id and a password which is necessary to login. thus if
somebody by chance gets your user Id and password, he/she still cannot
access it from any other line.

Re: [AI] Need your guidance/suggestions

2007-01-16 Thread Vetrivel Murugan, Adhimoolam
This is the perfect example to show, to what extent consumers are left
powerless. Perhaps members can throw light on questions such as: Can one
protect his/her broadband account with a secured password? To what extent
the officials of the service provider have the capacity to crack customer's
accounts? What does one do in the event of a discrepancy between the paper
bill and the electronically available usage history? Any one among us with
an experience of approaching officials with this issue? If yes, then can
he/she share the experience?

Re: [AI] Need your guidance/suggestions

2007-01-14 Thread Dinesh Kaushal
Hello Mr. Pathak

For that kind of activity it is really high, and other than what harish has
already said, what comes to my mind, is that you may have some virus
activity going on. some viruses use computers on internet as attack platform
for other computers. What I mean, that your computer if it is infected with
such a virus, wil be attacking other computers, and will be generating huge
amount of data. The purpose of these attacks is to make so many requests for
a website or something that it is not able to handle the request and then
the site may behave in a way so as to be exposed to exploitations. I have
seen an example, where one computer which was not having service packs for
windows XP, had generated more than 1 GB internet trafic within a few hours.

So monitor your computer's usage buy noting in the connection window the
incomming and out going data transfer before you disconnect, this
information is lost after you disconnect,. You can look for some software
which can keep record for such activities.

Also ensure that your computer has SP2 (Service Pack 2) if you have windows
xp, or in all other cases you have all the updates for the operating system
you are using. Besides SP2, apply all security updates as they contain
important bug fixes for latest flause discovered in the operating system

  Hope it helps
Dinesh

Re: [AI] Need your guidance/suggestions

2007-01-14 Thread Vetrivel Murugan, Adhimoolam
I think Pathakk was very specific in identifying his internet activities and
henceforth 1125 MB is still a lot of space to consume and if the connection
has been used just for 30 minutes everyday only with text based activities,
then there is know question that his connection has either been miss-used by
someone or he is bombarded with the fake bills from MTNL. But remember since
it involves government agency, the unauthorized user himself/herself could
be MTNL's own staff and he should take this issues to the provider at the
earliest.

I am also a MTNL broadband user from Mumbai. You can enquire/get

Check the history page where you can trace the sites you have logged
