Error Message after deleting Recovery Database TDP for Exchange 7.1.0.2
Hi everyone, today I installed TDP for Exchange on an Exchange 2013 server with a single database, no DAGs. The backup went OK and the restore went OK too. Problem now is, after telling the restore assistant to close and delete the Recovery Database, the "MSExchange Mailbox Replication" service is complaining in the event log with event ID 1006, that it cannot complete some tasks, because a database was missing. The only way to get rid of those messages is to reboot the server completely. So my question to the more experienced TDP for Exchange users: do you really have to reboot the server to get rid of those messages? Do they disappear after a certain amount of time? Have I maybe missed something? Is there a better way to handle this situation? Any hints welcome Regards, Michael Roesch
Re: Backup fails with no error message
Thomas, I haven't forgotten about this... I did find one place in our code where, if a memory allocation fails, a message is logged only to a trace file (not the dsmerror.log file). This is currently targeted for a future release. I do not know if this covers all the various scenarios you encountered, but it sounds closest to the issue you initially reported (the RC 12 with no other error message). Re: Backup fails with no error message
Andy, It looks like the problem was in fact a shortage of memory. The problem starting occurring again this past Saturday. A backup with tracing after an earlier occurrence of the problem ran out of stack space. I attempted to raise the stack size limit from its default of about 32 MB to its hard limit of about 4 GB before running another backup with tracing. For some reason I only got half the requested limit. The backup failed, but produced a useful error message for the first time in the history of this problem: an ANS1225E message indicating that the client software was unable to obtain memory needed for file compression. I was able to rerun the backup successfully after using the 'ulimit' command to allow unlimited memory size and data segment size. The default soft limits are in fact much smaller than the corresponding values on most of our other systems. The default data segment size is about 128 MB and the default memory size is about 1 GB. I am currently trying to get the system vendor to sign off on a request to allow unlimited memory and data segment sizes for backups of the resource group disks. Re: Backup fails with no error message
Thomas, Neither myself nor a knowledgeable colleague I checked with can think of anything definitive that would cause the client to blow the stack like that (we do not have any specific "best practice" recommendations in this area). It is conceivable that these issues are all rooted in the same cause. If you still have the SERVICE trace file(s) from the time of the core, you could open a PMR and submit that for us to look at. Maybe we could find something in the trace, like anomalous recursion in the file system, that leads to this. If you go this route, let me know the PMR number. Also, did you happen to run down Matthew Glanville's suggestion from the other day? Maybe something odd is going on with the mount point(s) for the involved file systems. The regularly scheduled backup ran successfully on Tuesday morning. The scheduled backup this morning failed with exit status 12 and no error message. The backup start and end times indicated that the failure occurred while processing a different file system in the same resource group. I ran a backup of the file system with service tracing enabled. The TSM client eventually crashed with a segmentation fault. I found two trace files, neither of which contained 'GlobalRC'. The core file from the crash consumed nearly all of the remaining space in the root file system. As far as I can tell, a system administrator responding to an automated alert removed the core file without consulting me. I ran a backup of the entire resource group without tracing. This was successful. I am thinking of upgrading the client software, even though none of the bug fixes listed has any obvious connection to the behavior I am seeing. Should I just keep trying the tracing every time a backup fails and hope I eventually get lucky and obtain a useful trace? Re: Backup fails with no error message
I have a guess as to what it is. Unmount that filesystem /main/UT Then see if there are any files or directories in /main/UT You may have mounted that filesystem over top of them, and what is in there may be what is actually causing the issue. Also this could be why the backup of /main/ut/ -subdir=yes works, it has a different starting point. If there are files /directories there, delete them, then mount /main/UT back or maybe keep them, if they are important... Andy, The failure did not occur when I ran the backup with service tracing. Further testing revealed that the failure no longer occurred even in the absence of tracing. I don't know whether the circumventions mentioned in my original e-mail ever had any real effect. Backup fails with no error message
We have an AIX system on which backups of a specific file system terminate with exit status 12 but with no error message indicating a reason for this exit status. If I execute the command dsmc inc /main/UT -servername=DC1P1_MAIN as root, I will see typical messages about the number of files processed and about specific files being backed up, followed by the usual summary messages. The exit status will be 12. The summary statistics will show a number of files examined equal to about half the number of files present in the file system. There will not be any error message explaining the exit status or the failure to examine the entire file system. The DCIP1_MAIN stanza in dsm.sys has some unusual features because it is used to back up one of the resource groups for a clustered environment. The stanza includes three 'domain' statements listing the file systems in the resource group. The stanza includes a 'nodename' option specifying the node name that owns the backup files from the resource group. The stanza includes an 'asnode' option specifying the node name used to authenticate sessions from the cluster node involved (we and the system vendor were not able to agree on an acceptable arrangement for storing a TSM password within the resource group). This stanza works fine for the other file systems in the same resource group, and worked fine for /main/UT up until June 26. I have found two ways to circumvent the problem. One circumvention is to run the command dsmc inc /main/UT/ -subdir=y -servername=DC1P1_MAIN to back up the top level directory of the file system rather than the file system as such. An 'lsfs' command shows nothing unusual about the file system; it is a jfs2 file system, like all the other file systems, and uses the same mount options as the other file systems. The other circumvention is to add an 'exclude.dir' line for a specific subdirectory of /main/UT to the include/exclude file. The subdirectory came under suspicion because it was last updated a few hours after the last fully successful backup. The client code is TSM 6.4.1.0. The client OS is AIX 7.1. The TSM server is TSM 6.2.5.0 running under zSeries Linux. Does anyone recognize this as a known problem? If not, does anyone have suggestions for presenting the problem to TSM support? I actually saw a flood of these type messages across multiple systems... enough to where I raised a red flag and declared a potential virus attack. Within minutes of sounding the alarm it was discovered that it was actually the anti-virus team performing a "vulnerability test" of the environments. Re: Cryptic tsm error message, not sure what to do with it.
The last time I saw one of these warnings, the file mentioned was being included via VSS in the system state backup, but there was a problem with the path or file name in the key entry in the registry. (I don't remember if there was an extra space, or an extra backslash in there.) If you use regedit, and search for that filename, you may find a misformed key. Run the search until you find no more matches, as sometimes there are multiple entries that need to be fixed. Re: failed 12 error message
Joni, I made a mistake, yours is Window 2000. You can try submitting a PMR to ask for support. Richard Sim pointed this out for me. Thanks Richard. Re: failed 12 error message
I understand that neither Microsoft nor IBM will support Window NT related problem. If you submit a PMR to IBM for support, they would tell you they do not support it and close the ticket. There are lots of not the same category errors showing up on your error log. My guess is not one fix will fix it all. Take a look at each error and start from there. For example : 01/06/2008 20:05:20 ANS4987E Error processing '\\hmpg4001\c$\Documents and Settings\perfmon\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows\UsrClass.dat.LOG': the object is in use by another process You can do some exclusions - check with your window admin if you can first. 01/06/2008 10:24:43 isFileNameValid: Invalid file name global.asa - file type not allowed. Check with the server owner and ask what is this *.asa, do they need it backed up ... if not exclude it 01/06/2008 20:03:23 ANS1327W The snapshot operation for 'C:' failed with error code: 653. 01/06/2008 20:03:23 ANS1228E Sending of object '\\hmpg4001\c$' failed My feeling this 'failed 12' error is yelling more of the snapshot error here. Go google ANS1327W & ANS1228E and see what other advises out there. Just debug it one at a time Good luck. Re: Spurious error message with TSM for Databases (SQL)
Mark, There is currently nothing you can do about this unless you bring the database online, remove it, or move it to a different SQL Server instance. IBM does know about the situation and is addressing it. Look for a future release to have an option to be able to completely exclude databases. I asked this question a while back, and supposedly there was going to be a fix in an upcoming TDP for SQL release. Del, is that release out? Thanks! BTW, my way of solving was deleting the database, since the ones in my situation were no longer going to be used. Spurious error message with TSM for Databases (SQL)
When I use the SQL agent (version 5.3.3.0) to back up SQL2000 databases on a Windows 2000 server, and the SQL machine has one or more databases offline, I get this error message: Backup of SQL Database RefTables will not be attempted. I believe 5.2.1.3 of the TDP is the lowest version that has SQL2005 "toleration". Good morning, I am in the process of updating my WIN2K3 clients to 5.3.4.8 (in accordance to the recent critical alert TSM announced a couple days ago APAR IC50347), and I am receiving an error message that I cannot seem to find any answers to. Re: ANR8984E error message
Thanks. Its there. tsm: TSM>help ANR8984E --- ANR8984E The drive drive name in library library name is incapable of performing any drive encryption operations. Explanation: The server queried the drive's encryption capability, and the query failed or the query showed that the drive does not have encryption capabilities. System Action: The mount operation fails. User Response: If this message occurs on a scratch mount and drive encryption has not been utilized yet, you can turn drive encryption off by updating the DRIVEENCRYPTION parameter on the device class. Otherwise, verify your hardware configuration. First, verify that all the drives in this logical library support drive encryption. Second, verify that the device driver controlling all of the drives in this library also supports drive encryption. If both the drives and the device driver support drive encryption, call your drive hardware support. -Original Message- From: ADSM: Dist Stor Manager [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Richard Sims Sent: Tuesday, October 24, 2006 12:21 PM To: ADSM-L@VM.MARIST.EDU Subject: Re: ANR8984E error message On Oct 24, 2006, at 2:00 PM, James Choate wrote: > We are receiving the following ANR message from TSM. > > I can't find any references to the message in the messages and > problems guide. TDPO for 64-bit Solaris error message: ANS0236E (RC2032) On dsmInit
Hi All, I was wondering if someone could assist with the following. We have installed and configured TDPO 5.3.2 (32-bit) and TDPO 5.3.2 (64-bit) on the same Sun Solaris SPARC 5.8 system. I have successfully completed a backup and restore to SCSI TAPE via tdpo.opt files for Oracle 8i 32-bit and 9i 32-bit databases on this system using TDPO 32-bit. However, when I attempt a backup to SCSI TAPE via 64-bit TDPO for the Oracle 10.2.0.2 64-bit database on this system I receive the following error: RMAN-03009: failure of backup command on t1 channel at 09/18/2006 11:28:50 ORA-19506: failed to create sequential file, name="GISDEV_offbkp_s6_p1_t601471730_20060918_112748", parms="" ORA-27028: skgfqcre: sbtbackup returned error ORA-19511: Error received from media manager layer, error text: ANS0236E (RC2032) On dsmInit, the owner is not allowed to establish a session when PASSWORDACCESS=generate. I'm not 100% sure, but it looks like this has something to do with the fact the TDPO password path variable within the tdpo_GISDEV.opt file is set to reference what appears to the 32-bit config still: TDPO_PSWDPATH /opt/tivoli/tsm/client/oracle/bin Instead of the 64-bit config ? TDPO_PSWDPATH /opt/tivoli/tsm/client/oracle/bin64 Which would mean we are looking in the 32-bit location for the password file (TDPO.phxtechdb01_oracle) when it doesn't exist within the 64-bit location. Can anyone advise ? Regards, Damion Reeves Oracle Database Administrator IT Services Shared Business Services SANTOS Ltd. Re: ANR9999D error message?
I had a similar problem, turned out to be the Qlogic card. The machine had happily worked away with the same config for ages, then started throwing anr errors. There was no indication in Windows or the Dell logs of any problem, only in TSM. Turned out to be the Qlogic card, updating the drivers solved the prolem. -Original Message- From: ADSM: Dist Stor Manager [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Desalegne Guangul Sent: 17 May 2005 01:39 To: ADSM-L@VM.MARIST.EDU Subject: [ADSM-L] ANRD error message? Re: Error message when trying to install server to admin center
Andy, Thank you very much! This time I went to Enterprise Management (again) and I entered in the tsm server name that it was giving me and this time I put in "localhost" (I swear I tried this before!) and this time the server showed up. Timothy, 1) Silly question perhaps, but are you certain you are providing the server connection info for the intended TSM server? 2) When you click on "Health Monitor", do you see *any* TSM servers show up in the list in the right-hand pane? 3) Connect to your TSM server via the Admin CLI and run query status The first line of output is the TSM server version. Re: Error message when trying to install server to admin center
Hi Paul, Yes, the Server connection that I am adding is the only server that I will be adding to this ISC/Admin. And it's claiming that the Server with the name "TSM"? (not sure where that name is coming from that's not name of the server) has already been added? I have not added any server to this ISC/Admin connection yet using my Admin ID that is what I am trying to do. Thanks! Paul Fielding wrote: > I think there's cross-communication going on here. Re: Error message when trying to install server to admin center
Andrew We upgraded our server(s) to 5.3 then installed the ISC and admin. the server that I am trying to add to the Admin Center is up and running. I am trying to add a server connection by doing the following clicking 1) Health Monitor 2) select server action/ click add server connection Adding a connection to a IBM TSM server Description xxx Administrator name xx (my admin ID) Password x Password (re-enter to confirm) xx Server address .xxx.xxx.xxx Server port 1500 (check) to Unlock the ADMIN_CENTER administrator on the server to allow the health monitor to report server status. (then I'm clicking ok) Again this TSM server is up and is the only connection that I will be adding the this ISC/Admin Center and the name of the server is not "TSM" not sure yet where it's getting that name from? We have other TSM servers using another network so they are on a different ISC/admin. Thanks Andrew Raibeck wrote: > I don't know enough about the specifics of your configuration to give you > a specific answer. Are you trying to register more than one server whose > name is "TSM"? Re: Error message when trying to install server to admin center
I think there's cross-communication going on here. Clarification is needed. Error message when trying to install server to admin center
Hello has anyone who installed TSM 5.3 come across this message when trying to add a server to the Admin Center? The specified server has been contacted and it has a server name of TSM. This server connection name has already been added to the Administration Center. Every server added to the Administration Center must have a unique name. To change the server name, use the server console or a Tivoli Storage Manager administrative client. The server is not showing up as being added to the Admin Center. Thanks in advance! Re: Netware error message
Assuming that it's been fine up until now, I would guess that something has changed. Has there been any patches/service packs/new tsm clients installed lately? If not, you may also want to look into the newest tsa patches (tsa16 I believe). Another thing to look for is the cache allocation percentage for tsafs. It should generally be set to no more than 10% of total memory. TID# 10091980 may also have info relevant to your problem. Frank You are right the Netware staff installed service pack 02 , I just upgrade the tsm client version to 5.2.3.0 and will run tonight a backup. If I still got a problem will download the newest tsa patches as you suggested. I didn't quiet understand what you mean by cache allocation percentage and how to do it . Thanks for the answer. Re: New error message after server upgrade
We upgraded from 5.2.2 to 5.2.3.0 to (among other things) try and fix this problem. No luck. I've also tried the txnbytelimit fix on the client, and again, no luck. If you find any other "solutions" I would be most interested in them. New error message after server upgrade
Just upgraded my AIX server from 5.2.1.3 to 5.2.3.2. Now I am seeing these error messages from various clients 9/2/2004 6:13:11 PM ANR1339W Session 710 underestimated a size allocation request - 222MB more space was allocated to allow the operation to continue. I searched IBM.COM and found APAR IC37437 which says: RECOMMENDATION: Apply the PTF containing this fix once it is available. This is expected to be available in 5.1.9.0 and 5.2.2.0. Of the three clients that reported this error, only 1 is below these levels ! Can someone give me more details on whether this has really been addressed/fixed in 5.2.2.x/5.2.3.x ? Was this on *ALL* client platforms ? Another entry I found on IBM.COM said to add: txnbytelimit 25600 to the opt file ? Anyone have experience with this problem/condition ? We have never seen this, before.
Re: server error message
I saw that, but it didn't seem to apply here. I checked the log file and it is using 5MB of the 500MB allocated. Same with the database. THe database is using 0.4% of it's allocation. -Original Message- From: ADSM: Dist Stor Manager [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of Luc Beaudoin Sent: Tuesday, August 31, 2004 2:07 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: server error message Hi check that link ... maybe it could help U http://www.mail-archive.com/[EMAIL PROTECTED]/msg40927.html Luc "Weinstein, Stephen" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent by: "ADSM: Dist Stor Manager" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> 2004-08-31 12:06 PM Please respond to "ADSM: Dist Stor Manager" To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] cc: Subject:server error message I just started having trouble with my Tivoli server 5.2.3. You are correct these files are created by the System Monitor (http://www.jsiinc.com/SUBG/TIP3300/rh3343.htm). We exclude them from our backups. Re: TDPO Error message
I found out that My trial has expired. and thanks to Richard Sims I located the tdpoerror.log which was stored in the oracle install directory (from some reason) and this log file confirmed this. Strange that it only had one error message saying the trial has expired and numerous other messages from each attempt we have made today. Have a good look at that file system object for existence, type, and permissions. Make sure you run the password planting under user root. Richard Sims, BU

Are you receiving the message immediately when the script is run? I would expect the message comes not from the attempt to execute the backupnas_daily.bat file but from dsmc executable called within the script. Check dsmerror.log! From what I understand, TDP for Domino scans all of the databases to gather info such as pathnames at the onset of the backup. Something may have interfered with the acquisition of such info then, or something has changed by the time TDP for Domino opens the object for backup. The most obvious cause would be the disappearance of the object. Richard Sims, BU

Re: oops forgot the error message.
That's curious!!! Now I'm in doubt. I think that you have to use the TSM SCSI Device Driver. What I'm not seeing is the library device. It's something like "lb0". If not first try to create through SMIT DEVICES -> Tivoli Storage Manager Devices -> SCSI Attached Devices -> Library/MediumChanger -> Add a Library/MediumChanger. Select the type ADSM library and the controller. In your case is the controller connected on slot 1P-08. The connection address seems to be 3,0. After that try to define the devices: tsm> define library libt=scsi tsm> define path srct=server destt=library device=/dev/lb0 tsm> define drive element=31 tsm> define drive element=32 tsm> define path srct=server destt=drive device=/dev/mt1 tsm> define path srct=server destt=drive device=/dev/mt2 Regards, Anderson - Original Message - From: "Scott Figgins" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Monday, June 23, 2003 10:17 AM Subject: Re: oops forgot the error message. Re: oops forgot the error message.
I do have the latest ATAPE 8.2.5.0. Yes you do need it for it to define the SMC0 media changer. I have loaded the AIX ML4 Maintenance Level. The drives work fine with sysback and at the normal AIX level. It's just when I try to setup the library. Re: oops forgot the error message.
He does not need to use Atape for 7336, but `lsdev -Cc tape` output might reveal some other problems. So the Anderson's approach is better :-)) Zlatko Krastev IT Consultant Dan Foster <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent by: "ADSM: Dist Stor Manager" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> 23.06.2003 07:02 Please respond to "ADSM: Dist Stor Manager" To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] cc: Subject:Re: oops forgot the error message. Er, I just realized that I'm not sure you need the Atape driver for a 7336, and most likely you don't need it. I've got an IBM 4mm library but last time we used it was about seven years ago when we did backups with Sysback. Do you have patches applied to AIX 5.1? Re: oops forgot the error message.
Scott, Are you using the TSM SCSI Device Driver? If yes, what's the target and LUN that you are using to define the library device? Can you type the following commands and show us the output? # lsdev -Cc tape # lsdev -Cc adsmtape Regards, Anderson - Original Message - From: "Scott Figgins" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Monday, June 23, 2003 12:46 AM Subject: oops forgot the error message.
