Re: Filtering out automatically created headlines/descriptions

2022-12-06 Thread Stepanian
We are using responsive search ads. Some of the headlines/descriptions are
automatically-generated. We are trying to identify which ones are
automatically-generated and which ones are not when we read ad assets in
the ad_group_ad_asset_view report. There is an asset.source field, which is
an enumeration that has values of "AUTOMATICALLY_GENERATED" and
"ADVERTISER", but it appears to be returning "ADVERTISER" for all assets,
including the automatically-generated ones. This is likely a bug in the API.

Filtering out automatically created headlines/descriptions

2022-12-05 Thread Stepanian
In the ad_group_ad_asset_view report, when getting current
headlines/descriptions, how do we filter out headlines/descriptions that
are automatically created. We tried using the asset.source for filtering by
setting it to 'ADVERTISER', but the query still returns all
headlines/descriptions including the automatically created ones.

Re: Updating existing RSA headlines/descriptions

2022-12-02 Thread Stepanian
Just for everyone else's benefit, to update the headlines/descriptions for
an existing responsive text ad, you're supposed to use the AdService and
the AdOperation and NOT the AdGroupAdService and the AdGroupAdOperation. My
initial assumption (and the answer from the Google Ads API Team above) was
incorrect.

Updating existing RSA headlines/descriptions

2022-11-30 Thread Stepanian
I am trying to update the headlines/descriptions of an existing ad group
ad. First of all, is this possible through the API? If so, which fields
should be populated in the MutateAdGroupAdsRequest?

I am using the update operation of a MutateAdGroupAdsRequest and passing to
it the ad group ad resource name and field mask. I am also passing an ad
populated with a ResponsiveSearchAdInfo containing the
headlines/descriptions. However, no changes are occurring when I run the
update.

I am using the Java client library, but my question is general and related
to the client library implementation.

Actually, the ad_group_asset_view report accomplishes what I need. A query
can include the asset.text_asset.text, which retrieves the headline or
description text.

Thanks!

Re: Two questions regarding retrieving responsive search ad data

2022-10-26 Thread Stepanian
Hi Peter,

Thanks for the response. It is helpful.

One follow-up question: These two reports return resource names and field
types (e.g. headline, description, etc.) for each asset. How can we know
which specific headline or description each asset is? The
headlines/descriptions lists returned in the ad_group_ad report do not have
resource names associated with each headline/description.

Thank you.

Re: Two questions regarding retrieving responsive search ad data

2022-10-26 Thread Stepanian
Hi Sherwin,

Thank you for your response.

In the query you specified, it appears the impressions number we would get
would be applicable to the entire ad not to the specific headlines and
descriptions, isn't that correct? I need the impressions for each
individual headline and description. How would I accomplish that?

Thanks.

   2. Is there a way to get a list of the recommendations for descriptions

Thanks!

Deleting Assets

2022-02-03 Thread Stepanian
I know how to create an asset, associate it with an asset set and
disassociate it from an asset. But how how can you delete the asset itself
once it is disassociated?

I use the Java SDK, but the question applies to any SDK or method to use
the API.

Re: Exclude removed ad groups from campaign_audience_view

2021-02-22 Thread Stepanian
The ad_group_audience_view
<https://developers.google.com/google-ads/api/fields/v6/ad_group_audience_view>
provides
the performance data for ad group level audience criteria. What we need is
the performance data for campaign level audience criteria, which I can get
through campaign_audience_view
<https://developers.google.com/google-ads/api/fields/v6/campaign_audience_view>,

but I need to exclude data for removed ad groups.

Exclude removed ad groups from campaign_audience_view

2021-02-20 Thread Stepanian
I am trying to get performance data for audiences using the
campaign_audience_view
.

I am able to get all the data I need, filtered by enabled and paused
campaigns.

However, I also want to add a predicate for enabled and paused ad groups
(exclude removed ad groups). I was able to do this in the AdWords API Audience
Performance Report
.

But I can't do the same thing in the Ads API (the ad_group field is not
available in that view and adding a where clause for ad_group.status causes
and error).

Is there a way to exclude removed ad groups from that report?

Thanks.

Re: Why Google Ads API doesn't support CSV downloads?

2019-05-07 Thread Stepanian
As the author of the original post referenced here, I echo all the concerns
raised in this post. I am confused as to why report downloads are
eliminated. (In fact, I am confused as to why the AdWords API is being
deprecated. It is awesome and, at least to me, appears to be superior to
the new Ads API in every way).

As very large users of the report download functionality, we request that
Google reconsider its decision to eliminate this functionality from the Ads
API.

Thanks!

Re: Downloading XML and CSV reports using the new Ads API

2019-05-07 Thread Stepanian
Hi Dave,

Thanks for the response. We can definitely convert JSON to CSV and save it
to a file using Java code. That is not our concern. Our main issue is the
practicality of downloading huge amounts of data using paged
request/responses. Our client is a VERY big AdWords advertiser. We have
automated systems that download very large reports throughout the day and
use them for various purposes. I am very concerned that getting the same
data in paged records would be impractically slow. I am not even sure if
the Java client SDKs provided support multithreaded downloads of the paged
data. Writing our own code to use the Ads API endpoints directly using
threaded parallel requests for pages of the same data would be complicated
and may risk exceeding various quotas associated with the API.

Again, we are not concerned about writing the necessary code. We feel that
getting the large amounts of data we currently get using reports using
paged endpoints may prove to be impractical.

Thanks again.

Re: [3-4581000025939] Downloading XML and CSV reports using the new Ads API

2019-05-06 Thread Stepanian
Thank you for the response. I am not sure I follow completely, but it
appears from your answer that there actually is a way to download XML and
CSV reports. We can definitely write the necessary code to accomplish that.
We just don't know where to start in the new Ads API. Is there an example?
If it's not an endpoint, and it's not included in the client libraries
(e.g. Java), how do we go about accomplishing that? What endpoint would we
connect to? Thanks.

AdWords Java SDK - Getting DatabaseError.CONCURRENT_MODIFICATION

2018-11-20 Thread Stepanian
Yesterday I started getting a DatabaseError.CONCURRENT_MODIFICATION error
for operations that are part of a tool that I have developed and used for
months. The tool creates an ad group and then (sequentially) adds criteria
to it. There are no multiple threads accessing the API at any given point
time. The error comes up at different parts of the process, so there is
really no pattern. In fact, in one case, it appeared in the first step the
tool was initially creating an ad group!

Has anything changed as far as concurrent modification monitoring in the
API itself? Is this something that could be an issue that you may be
addressing?

Any guidance would be helpful. Thanks!

Thank you for your quick reply Nadine.

In the AdWords site, when creating (or updating) a campaign, there is a
checkbox marked "Include search partners". How do I access that field
through the API to modify it? It seems like it is enabled by default for
every new campaign created through the API. Can I uncheck it through the
API?

Thanks again.

I see. Thanks. So a bid modifier cannot be assigned to a campaign using a
synchronous API like CampaignService? I alresdy have all my code written using
the asynchronous APIs.

Error when setting targetPartnerSearchNetwork to true

2016-02-07 Thread Stepanian
When I'm creating a new campaign, I get a RequestError.UNKNOWN error if I
set the targetPartnerSearchNetwork value to true for the NetworkSetting
type. What could I be doing wrong? I don't get the error if I
set targetPartnerSearchNetwork to false and the campaign gets created
normally. Thanks.

Re: Adding bid adjustments for mobile when creating campaigns

2016-02-05 Thread Stepanian
Thanks again for your reply.

What I need is to set the bid modifier as the default for the entire
campaign - in other words have it apply to all negative keywords added to
that campaign afterwards, like it's done on the Google AdWords site at the
time of creating campaigns.

Wouldn't your suggested approach add the bid modifier to specific
CampaignCriterion records and not to the Campaign as the default?

Thank you for your quick response. The CampaignCriterion bidModifier field

Adding bid adjustments for mobile when creating campaigns

I am using the CampaignService to add new campaigns using the API. How can
I add a bid adjustment for mobile devices for the entire campaign at the
time of the campaign creation? The Campaign type does not have any fields

Re: Auth Caching on Java Client Library v201109

2012-08-15 Thread stepanian
OK - this is what I got so far - I just need a confirmation that this is
correct:

1) It seems like the auth token is associated with a user only not with an
account (in other words, the client email is tied to the auth token).
2) The AuthToken object can be created from an email and a password. Once
created, you can use the getAuthToken method on the AuthToken object to get
a String representation of the auth token. This String can be stored for
later use.
3) You can associate the string representation of a previously created
AuthToken with an AdWordsUser instance using the method setAuthToken on the
AdWordsUser object.

This way, you can keep the auth token string around for multiple uses.

Assuming this is correct, I have one more question: Currently, when I
create an AdWordsUser instance, I don't manually associate an auth token
with it. It somehow happens by itself. When does that happen? If I manually
attach an auth token to the AdWordsUser instance, does that stop it from
getting a new one?

Re: Auth Caching on Java Client Library v201109

2012-08-15 Thread stepanian
Oliver,

Thank you very much for responding to me and attaching the link.

I looked at the thread thoroughly. I'm not 100% sure if the answer to my
first question is yes or no.

Tozor said that "from looking at the stack trace, it looks like the Adwords
client library is actually reloading the auth token". So, the answer to my
first question is yes - the AdWordsUser is caching the token. However,
later he says "we are caching the AdwordsUser instance in our code (which
contains the token)". So, it seems like, if he has to cache the AdWordsUser
instance, then it is not done automatically by the library, so the answer
to my first question is no.

Assuming the answer to my first question is no, my operation is looping
through many accounts and running operations on them. Each operation must
create a new AdWordsUser because the AdWordsUser instance is tied to an
account. Is that also the case for the AuthToken? If each AuthToken is tied
to an account, then running operations on multiple accounts, each with its
own AuthToken shouldn't generate the CAPTCHA error, right?

Finally, if I was able to create an AdWordsUser instance for each of the
accounts and store them for a week, can I just reuse them? Should I
serialize the objects to disk? How are others storing the AdWordsUser
objects?

Auth Caching on Java Client Library v201109

2012-08-14 Thread stepanian
When I create an AdWordsUser object using the Java client library v201109,
does it cache the authentication token behind the scenes?

If no, do I need to account for it manually? How?

If yes, does it also do it when creating AdWordsUser objects in separate
threads (processes)?

Recently I have been getting the "CAPCHA Required" message when running
automatic operations and I am suspecting that I am not properly caching the
authentication token.

If running operations in separate threads, how do I make sure that the
authentication token is cached?

Thanks.

Re: QuotaCheckError.INVALID_TOKEN_HEADER @ ; trigger:''???

2012-01-18 Thread stepanian
You need to do two things:

1) Make sure you are using the latest dotnet client library.
2) Add the developer token to both the report definition mutate
operation and also to the report download operation.

For the report download, I use the following code:

string gZipPath = "path_to_gzip";
WebClient wc = new WebClient();
String url =
"https://adwords.google.com/api/adwords/reportdownload?
__rd=" + id;
wc.Headers.Add("Authorization", "GoogleLogin auth=" +
service.RequestHeader.authToken);
wc.Headers.Add("clientEmail",
service.RequestHeader.clientEmail);
wc.Headers.Add("developerToken",
"your_developer_token");
    wc.DownloadFile(url, gZipPath);

Re: QuotaCheckError.INVALID_TOKEN_HEADER @ ; trigger:''???

2012-01-18 Thread stepanian
I am using the latest dotnet library (I just downloaded it) and it's
still giving me the same error. I am adding the developer token
header.

Any update on this from Google? I am having the same exact problem.

Keyword Performance Report Lag

2011-11-02 Thread stepanian
This is a new issue. We have been using the API for a long time and
have not seen this. It started around two weeks ago.

The problem is the following: If we change the text of a keyword, then
immediately download the keyword performance report, the change is not
reflected. If we download the report 30 minutes later, then the change
would be there.

We are using the dotnet client and v201008. We are running the report
for the time range of TODAY.

TargetingIdeaService - get method vs. getBulkKeywordIdeas method

2011-09-24 Thread stepanian
Can someone please explain the following unusual behavior associated
with the TargetingIdeaService?

1. With the get method, I can use the IdeaTextMatchesSearchParameter
and the "included" field. But adding the same keywords that were used
in the RelatedToKeywordSearchParameter to the "included" field
significantly increases the number of results returned. Shouldn't the
"included" field be a filter that actually reduces the number of
results?

2. The documentation says that paging is allowed with the get method
and the maximum page size is 800. However, in reality, only one page
is returned. Is there a way to get the rest of the results?

3. Paging actually works with getBulkKeywords with a page size of 500.
However, the RelatedToUrlSearchParameter must be provided when using
the getBulkKeywords method. Why? What does that really accomplish? Why
is it only required with the getBulkKeywords method and not with the
get method?

4. Assuming that we provide the RelatedToUrlSearchParameter to get
more results, we get another unusual behavior: the
RelatedToKeywordSearchParameter cannot be used with getBulkKeywords.
Why?

Based on all of the above, what combination of search methods and
parameters should we use to get the largest number of results?

IdeaTextMatchesSearchParameter

2011-09-21 Thread stepanian
I am using the C# client API to get keywords using the
TargetingIdeaService. I am trying to use the
IdeaTextMatchesSearchParameter. It doesn't seem like it is working as
expected. I can only use included terms or excluded terms but not both
of them together. And, even if I use only one, the priorityAction
field has to be set accordingly (INCLUDE with included terms or
EXCLUDE with excluded terms).

My understanding is that you should be able to use both included and
excluded terms together and the priorityAction is supposed to give one
priority in situations where both terms are in the same keyword.

Is this a bug? I am using v201008.
