'Failed to retrieve auth metadata with error: invalid_grant' - Exception occurred in retry method that was not classified as transient'

2022-11-07 Thread Sam Pascoe
I'm getting the error:

code: 16,
 details: 'Failed to retrieve auth metadata with error: invalid_grant',
 metadata: Metadata { internalRepr: Map(0) {}, options: {} },
 note: 'Exception occurred in retry method that was not classified as
transient'

re-entering a new refresh token seems to be the only fix. It happens once a
week.

Previously working code now has an Invalid Grant error?

2022-07-15 Thread Sam Pascoe
Hi there, I woke up to try my code one morning and now have the error below:

code: 16,
details: 'Failed to retrieve auth metadata with error: invalid_grant',
metadata: Metadata { internalRepr: Map(0) {}, options: {} },
note: 'Exception occurred in retry method that was not classified as
transient'

this was working perfectly the night before and I'm unsure what could have
caused it. How can I fix this issue?

URGENT: Offline Conversion Upload Unidentifiable Errors

2022-02-11 Thread 'Sam Vitale' via Google Ads API and AdWords API Forum
Hi there,

I have an urgent request regarding our offline conversion uploads not
loading into Google Ads. Yesterday morning at 9:00am we uploaded a batch of
~450 conversions for 2/9 via the API - all of which returned successful
responses. We do this every day without issues. Usually this takes 4-5
hours to populate in the GA UI, however, there still isn't the correct
conversion_value or conversion count for 2/9. Can you take a look at what
could have gone wrong here?

Trouble gathering click data for RSAs from ad_group_ad_asset_view

2021-11-17 Thread Sam Vitale
Hi there,

I read the release notes for v9.0 of the Google Ads API and found that RSAs
are now supported for the ad_group_ad_asset_view. I was able to hit the API
and pull in information on each asset using the query at the bottom of this
email, but the only metric that was returned was impressions. The
documentation, however, shows that the ad_group_ad_asset_view has the
ability to pull clicks as
well
https://developers.google.com/google-ads/api/fields/v9/ad_group_ad_asset_view#metrics.clicks.

Could you provide some assistance to pull asset level click data for RSAs.

Query:
SELECT
customer.id,
campaign.id,
campaign.name,
ad_group.id,
ad_group.name,
asset.id,
ad_group_ad_asset_view.asset,
ad_group_ad_asset_view.field_type,
metrics.impressions,
metrics.clicks,
metrics.conversions,
metrics.conversions_value,
metrics.cost_micros
FROM ad_group_ad_asset_view
WHERE segments.date >= '2021-09-15'
AND segments.date <= '2021-11-15'

Thanks,
Sam

Enabling Ads API

2021-07-31 Thread sam chakerian
I tried searching this, but could not find an answer.

I'm trying to enable the Ads API (in order to use keyword planner).
Documentation says to go to Tools & Settings > Setup > API Setup. I believe
I am in a manager account.

Here's what I see:

What am I missing here?

ValueError: A required field in the configuration data was not found. The required fields are: ('developer_token',)

2021-05-03 Thread Sam

I'm trying to run the keyword stats report (file found here:
https://github.com/googleads/google-ads-python/blob/master/examples/reporting/get_keyword_stats.py)

via the Google Ads API. I have the googleads.yaml file setup already. But
when I run the report, I'm getting an error that says: ValueError: A
required field in the configuration data was not found. The required fields
are: ('developer_token',)

I have all the required fields in my googleads.yaml file. Please see
screenshot below for reference. What could have gone wrong in my code? Why
is it not reading the 'developer_token' I have in the googleads.yaml file?

DEFAULT_CLIENT_ID Not Defined Error

2021-04-05 Thread Sam
I'm trying to get the refresh token so I can start working with Google Ads
API. However, I am getting this error when I tried to run the
generate_refresh_token.py file which I found in this
link:
https://github.com/googleads/googleads-python-lib/blob/master/examples/adwords/authentication/generate_refresh_token.py

I basically copy the whole code and created a python file on my env. But
then when I tried to run it, I am getting this error: 'name
DEFAULT_CLIENT_ID not defined.'

I already have a client ID and client secret, which I copy and pasted to
the DEFAULT_CLIENT_ID and DEFAULT_CLIENT_SECRET variables of the
generate_refresh_token.py file.

Please help me fix the error. Appreciate your response. Thanks.

Using gclid to retrieve information

Hi all,

I am practically new here and does not know much about this. I was
wondering if there is a way to retrieve data such as keyword, campaign etc
related to a gclid within my CRM? I am now storing the gclid from the
landing url, but does not know how to retrieve info using this. I have gone
through the Adwords API but couldn't any such. Please let me know if such a
way exists.

Yes, the issue is occurring while creating a project during the setting up

Cannot create a project during API setup...

2020-10-15 Thread Sam Lehman
Hello,

I'm trying to do the 'Set up OAuth2 authentication' step in this guide
(https://developers.google.com/adwords/api/docs/guides/first-api-call), but
when I try to set the location field during the project set up, it only
shows 'no organization' with a yellow warning icon with the text 'You do
not have the required 'resourcemanager.projects.create' permissions to
create projects in this location.'

Any ideas?

One more update in case anyone looking for this info - I managed to get
this working using the reference here:
https://developers.google.com/protocol-buffers/docs/reference/python-generated#fields

Understanding .remove() would be useful though!

Thanks

How to loop through and remove url_custom_parameters

2020-05-16 Thread Sam
Hi,

Is there any python documentation on how to remove an existing
url_custom_parameter for a keyword ad_group_criterion in the google ads api?

I'd like to loop through the url_custom_parameters for each keyword, and
remove those that have a certain string in the key. However I don't appear
to be able to loop through the url_custom_parameters returned in the
message (without converting them to json first) and
the url_custom_parameters.remove() seems not to be documented, saying it
needs an argument (which is unknown to me).

Thanks for your help

Extension Feed ID and Item ID

2020-05-13 Thread Sam Thompsett

Hello,

I'm trying to pull Item ID from the AdWords API using FeedItemID, however
the values that are being pulled are Extension Feed Item ID.

This is the field that is being download used
-
https://developers.google.com/adwords/api/docs/appendix/reports/placeholder-feed-item-report#feeditemid

Is this correct or should this actually be ItemID?

Thanks,

Campaign Criteria

2019-08-28 Thread Sam
Hi,

On the criteria page for the Google Ads API here:
https://developers.google.com/google-ads/api/docs/targeting/criteria

It says:

GenderInfo
<https://developers.google.com/google-ads/api/reference/rpc/google.ads.googleads.v2.common#google.ads.googleads.v2.common.GenderInfo>By

default a new campaign will contain no gender criteria, which means that
all genders are included. Only negative criteria are supported at the
campaign level. At the ad group level, you can bid on or exclude genders.

Does this mean that older campaigns may have criteria set for Gender? If
so, at what point was the switchover?

Thanks

Sam

Identifying 'real' UserList types for RULE_BASED lists with no IntegrationCode

2019-07-19 Thread Sam
Hi,

We have some RULE_BASED audiences. We're trying to identify the 'real' type
of audience this represents. With an IntegrationCode of 'VISITORS_RULE' for
example, we know that this is actually remarketing activity, just defined
by a rule, which is fine.

However there are some audiences which are RULE_BASED and have a null
IntegrationCode. For example, a shared YouTube audience that remarkets to
video viewers. I want to be able to classfiy this as remarketing in our
reporting, and also ideally that it's from YouTube.

Is there any way via the API to determine that this is the case, without
having to review the names of the UserLists (an error prone process)?

Thanks

Handling Deadline Exceeded Errors for very large accounts

2019-07-02 Thread Sam

Hi there,

Thanks for all the work on the new API, it seems like in time it will be
much more robust than the AdWords API.

I have an issue with regards to the DEADLINE_EXCEEDED error.

We have instances of customer accounts which are extremely large, and so I
am unable even pull all enabled ad group IDs in a single query without
receiving the DEADLINE_EXCEEDED error, for an account with 500 campaigns.

It seems like I have a few options here:

1) We could instead run 500 campaign-specific queries and combine the
responses. We'd rather not do this due to the increased risk of hitting
rate limits.

2) We could write code to dynamically split the AWQL queries by a
"campaign.id IN (id1, id2, id3...)" predicate, splitting the campaigns into
2 groups, and if either of those requests fail, continuing to split and
combine. My concern here is the effort and the complexity of dynamic
adjustment of AWQL query strings.

I suppose my question is - what is the recommendation with regards to the
optimal way to approach this problem?

Also - is this a known issue (and so perhaps resolved in a future API
update) or is this behaviour intentional and unlikely to change?

Thanks for your help.

Ad Keeps Showing Default Values

2019-03-13 Thread sam
When we view our ad through a Google search query, we see our ad with
default headline1, headline2, etc. The ad uses an AdCustomizer feed, and
everything in the ad matches up with what's in the AdCustomizer feed, but
we are still only seeing the default values from the live ad.

What might be wrong? Thanks!

Large difference in performance for similar ads.

2019-03-11 Thread Sam
In one of my adgroups I have two ads that are very similar. The only
difference is the order of the two headlines. These ads have the same
keywords and same landing page. In the past 7 days I got a 30% conversion
rate for Ad 1 and a 8% conversion rate for Ad 2. They have about the same
CTR, clicks, avg position, and top of page rate. To make it even funner,
last week they were flipped and Ad 2 had a conversion rate of 17% and Ad 1
had a conversion rate of 8%. The week before that they were flipped and Ad
1 did drastically better. The week before that they were flipped and Ad 2
did drastically better. The better performing ad has at least 2x the
conversion rate of the underperforming ad for the week. Given that both ads
are populated and many months old, what could be causing this strange
behavior?

CustomerSyncService giving different change numbers than the Change History in Google Ads interface

2019-01-22 Thread sam
Hello,

A part of our software makes use of the CustomerSyncService to determine
how many changes have been made to various ad accounts. We have noticed
that many of the sums of changes don't match the number in the Google Ads
interface (Change History report) over the same time period. For example,
the CustomerSyncService will give a list of ads that were changed on a
certain day whereas the Change History report in Google Ads reports 0
changes for that day. Are there any criteria that would cause the
SyncService to report a change in an ad and not report it in the Change
History report? Is there any way to fetch the same number of changes as
displayed in the change history report?

Thanks,
Sam

CustomerSyncService giving different results from the Ads web client

2019-01-17 Thread sam
Hello,

We are using the CustomerSyncService to keep track of the number of changes
made to ad accounts over time. We have noticed that some of the responses
we are getting from this service are quite different from the 'Change
History' tab in Google Ads. What is the main difference between the 'Ad
Account Changes' that the service returns and the number that is shown in
the web client? We are trying to decipher if it is a problem on our end or
if we are not correctly understanding what 'account changes' means in the
two different contexts. API version is v201802 btw, will be upgrading next
week as this version is being deprecated this month.

Thanks,
Sam

Parallel Batch Jobs

We're trying to implement multiple batch jobs, 2 batch jobs in parallel at

Is there some sample PHP code for monitoring and controlling rates for

Shared Budgets Not Showing

2018-12-20 Thread sam
Hello,

We're running into an issue where shared campaign budgets retrieved through
the API aren't showing on the front end of the Google Ads dashboard.

It is a test account with 0 campaigns and 0 shared budgets (checked filters
as well), yet we are still pulling 23 shared budget objects through the API
using BudgetService.

Please help. Thanks!

Label Operations

2018-11-21 Thread sam
Label operations must be mutated and can't be sent through batching,
correct?

We're worried about hitting rate limits without sending these label
operations through batching. What is the recommended solution for scaling
large amounts of label operations without batching them?

Thanks!

Re: Adding labels on keywords

2018-10-31 Thread sam
Hi Vincent,

We are using LabelService to mutate the label operation and not using
BatchJobService. Another issue that seems to be happening, is the label
being added to all keywords rather than the one specified by "keyword_id".

Is there anywhere we could find sample code for adding a keyword label?

Thanks!

Any idea how we can fix these errors? The label is getting added to the

Keyword Targeting With Multiple Ads Per AdGroup

2018-10-26 Thread sam
Just to confirm, when we have a keyword in our AdCustomizer (FeedItem) feed
target an AdGroup, can we have two FeedItems in the AdCustomizer feed with
the same keyword, but inserting different values (headline1 headline2 etc)
into a single ad within the targeted AdGroup?

Or could/should we have a single row for the keyword in our AdCustomizer
feed with extra columns for the multiple ad templates?

{=adcustomizer_feed.ad1_headline1:default_headline1}

{=adcustomizer_feed.ad1_headline2:default_headline2}

{=adcustomizer_feed.ad1_description:default_description}

{=adcustomizer_feed.ad2_headline1:default_headline1}

{=adcustomizer_feed.ad2_headline2:default_headline2}

{=adcustomizer_feed.ad2_description:default_description}

Will either method work?

Thank you!

Preventing Grouping of Similar Keyword using TargetingIdeaService

2018-10-24 Thread Sam Green
Hi,

Thanks for all the work on the AdWords API - it's amazing.

I have a question on the grouping of keywords using TargetingIdeaService,
in particular related to historical search volumes - is there a way to
determine via the API where the keywords are grouped? Is it possible to
prevent this?

For example, take the keywords [flower] and [flowers]. They return exactly
the same search volume, but whilst one is a plural of another, they are
completely different keywords - one with a lot of commercial intent, and
one with practically none - we know from advertising that the keyword
volume is not at all the same, and the API returning the same data risks
double counting vs the keyword planner (which doesn't dupe the data in that
sense).

I'd like to retrieve the historical search volumes for the exact terms if
possible, or at least be able to determine when keywords are grouped - is
that possible?

Thanks

Setting ID and Product Group Bids through the API

2018-07-06 Thread Sam Gordon
How does one go about setting product group bids and ID level bids through
the API? We are able to set ad group level bids, but that doesn't change
the bids that are set at the product groups and/or ID level, which take
precedent over the ad group bids.

As far as I can tell, the ad group bid in shopping seems useless, and we
don't seem to be able to set a null value for the product group and ID as
we can with keywords on search campaigns.

Our goal was initially to set null bids on ID and Product groups, and
automate the overarching ad group bids through the API.

I would love any documentation that you all can provide(I cannot find any
on this topic), or any way you all know of to set those bids.

Thanks

Re: Deleting "Removed" Entities

2018-06-29 Thread sam
Hi Dannison,

The Client Customer ID for which we received the campaign limit error has 0
campaigns:

<https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-AEp6R8Rqko4/WzZ-sjqJ53I/AI4/K9S_dL1ITbwE6-E41-3Wd2_iF1iFkH6BQCLcBGAs/s1600/test_account.jpg>

However, we do have many other linked accounts:

<https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-DtjLWKAEaCE/WzZ_gv8gNqI/AJM/LPmM7AH_FAIHHfHuMXnVth20mWhvpGPygCLcBGAs/s1600/all_accounts.PNG>

So is the limit coming from all the other connected accounts? That would be
extremely limiting if that's the case.

Thanks,
Sam

Thanks for the assistance. We were getting the

Deleting "Removed" Entities

2018-06-26 Thread sam
We have an account we use for testing, and over time we've accumulated
removed campaigns and AdGroups to the point where we're getting
"EntityCountLimitExceeded.ACCOUNT_LIMIT" errors.

Is it possible to delete "removed" items so we can free up room?

Thanks!

Probability/Accuracy order of Category data via TargetingIdeaService

2018-06-05 Thread Sam Green
Hi,

We're using the TargetingIdeaService to identify search volume and
categories of provided keywords.

The category data comes back as a IntegerSetAttribute of category ids -
however it's unclear (to me) whether there is a measure of probability or
even order to this list - that is, how can we understand confidence of
these IDs at either a 'probability this ID matches' or a 'this is the most
likely category' - is the latter as straightforward as the first or last
integer returned?

Thanks

Sam

Re: Debugging the conversion tracker created from the API

2018-02-21 Thread sam
Thanks, Vincent,

the actual issue is that the code needs to be embedded in the client side
website. We've already tested the code snippet on our side and that works.

They have a dynamic confirmation page for a purchase, so the snippet will
load and the html will be generated only after a purchase is made.

Is there a guide to help us check if the tracking works properly in this
case?

Thanks,
Sam

Debugging the conversion tracker created from the API

2018-02-20 Thread sam
Hi all,

we are in the process of testing if the conversion tracker created through
the ConversionTrackerService works properly and how one can go about
debugging it.

We ran campaigns and observed over 2.4K clicks but 0 conversions, which is
suspicious considering our historical conversion rate of 3%.

Should we provide the conversion tracker code that the
ConversionTrackerService API returns through the mutate operation or the
new website conversion tracking tag that looks very different compared to
the snippet from the API?

How to debug this?

Thanks,
Sam

How can I get placements ideas through the API?

We are wondering if it is possible to use the TargetingIdeaService to get
ideas about placements and not just for keywords. If it is not, is there
another alternative that enables planning a campaign with managed

AdCustomizer FeedItem Feed Upload with Dynamic Ads

2017-10-04 Thread sam
Hello,

We're currently uploading our FeedItems as a .csv feed file through shared
library > business data.

Let's say we start off with a dynamic text ad that looks like this, where
our AdCustomizer feed is name "*AdWords API AdCustomizer Feed*":

{=AdWords API AdCustomizer Feed.Headline1:default headline1}
{=AdWords API AdCustomizer Feed.Headline2:default headline 2}
website.com/{=AdWords_API_AdCustomizer_Feed.Path1:Search}/{=
AdWords_API_AdCustomizer_Feed.Path2:Parts}
{=AdWords API AdCustomizer Feed.Description:default description.}

When we upload a new AdCustomizer feed (with FeedItem rows) and change its
name to "*AdWords API AdCustomizer Feed*" and the old feed to something
like "*AdWords API AdCustomizer Feed Old*", we notice that the dynamic text
ads fail to display data from the new feed. Even stranger, is that the
AdCustomizer feed name also changes in the ad to become like this:

{=AdWords API AdCustomizer Feed Old.Headline1:default headline1}
{=AdWords API AdCustomizer Feed Old.Headline2:default headline 2}
website.com/{=AdWords_API_AdCustomizer_Feed Old.Path1:Search}/{=
AdWords_API_AdCustomizer_Feed Old.Path2:Parts}
{=AdWords API AdCustomizer Feed Old.Description:default description.}

Which seems like the ad is somehow tied to the original AdCustomizer feed,
and fails to associate itself with the new feed. How can we have the
existing ads use the data from and associate itself with the latest
uploaded AdCustomizer feed?

Thanks!

Re: Monitoring API calls/versions

2017-09-11 Thread sam
Hi Peter,

Thank you very much for the speedy and informative response!

The SOAP logging will work for things we put in place from here on in, but
it won't help me identify if there are 'legacy' dev platforms out there
making outdated API calls to Google Adwords? I would have to find them to
implement the SOAP logging, and if I found them I wouldn't need the SOAP
logging to find them - if that makes sense?

I know this sounds backwards! Simply put, my client is concerned that we
might be breaching the terms associated with our Developer Token if there
are calls being made from an outdated client library, and has asked me to
verify that this isn't happening. But I don't know how to be 100% certain
that I have found, and updated/removed everything that is making calls.

regards,
Sam

Monitoring API calls/versions

2017-09-10 Thread sam
Hi there,

New to Adwords API, with an organisation that has been using it for a
while. This question is about any monitoring or reporting that may be
available as to calls being received on Google's side from a given
MCC/Developer Token?

*Situation: *We received a notice from Google that a percentage of our API
calls were being made using a soon-to-be retired version. I am thinking
that there may be one (or more) old Dev platforms floating around from
before my time, still actively making calls. So - if I track one down and
decommission it, how can I tell there isn't another? Is there any way to
monitor or report across the calls Google is receiving from our Developer
Token? So - similar to whatever Google is using to notify us that x% of our
calls are using an out-of-date version?

There are reporting tools on console.cloud.google.com, but I don't think
Adwords falls under the list of API's here?

Hopefully this makes sense!

Sam

Do we know what's causing this? Here's the code within the function:

FeedItem Keyword Targeting for Multiple Keywords

FeedItem Keyword Targeting with AdGroup Targeting

2017-06-19 Thread sam
I have an issue with FeedItem targeting. When we use keyword targeting in
addition to AdGroup targeting with:

$adgroup_targeting = new FeedItemAdGroupTargeting();
$adgroup_targeting->TargetingAdGroupId = $adgroup_id;
$item->adGroupTargeting = $adgroup_targeting;

$item->keywordTargeting = $target_keyword_object;

And then do a query on the FeedItems... We see that the FeedItem object has
no keyword targeting:
[adGroupTargeting] => FeedItemAdGroupTargeting Object
(
[TargetingAdGroupId] => 43100228585
)

[keywordTargeting] =>

Keyword targeting doesn't show as null when we leave out the AdGroup
targeting.

Keyword Targeting

2017-06-14 Thread sam
My first question regards to using keyword targeting for AdCustomizer
FeedItems. Usually an ad is created given a final URL.

It seems the way keyword targeting works is the FeedItem with the matching
keyword will be applied to a *single* ad, as opposed to each ad being
associated with a FeedItem. Wouldn't this mean that all ads will have the
same final URL?

Here is the code we're concerned about:
$expanded_text_ad->description = "{=$feed_name.Description}";
$expanded_text_ad->finalUrls = array($final_url);

Would it be possible to do something like this to get FeedItems to be able
to fill in final URL?
$expanded_text_ad->finalUrls = array("{=$feed_name.FinalURL}");

This way we could have one ad to be associated dynamically to the proper
FeedItem based off of keyword targeting, correct?

*= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =*

Second questions is about FeedItem targeting... We've been using AdGroup
targeting with:
$item = new FeedItem();

$adgroup_targeting = new FeedItemAdGroupTargeting();
$adgroup_targeting->TargetingAdGroupId = $adgroup_id;
$item->adGroupTargeting = $adgroup_targeting;

Would the proper implementation of keyword targeting just be this? Where
$target_keyword_object is a Keyword Object:
$item = new FeedItem();
$item->keywordTargeting = $target_keyword_object;

Does it need to be combined with AdGroup targeting?

PHP Fatal error: Cannot use object of type stdClass as array

2017-03-23 Thread sam
Everything worked fine up until the update to v201702. Now we are getting:

PHP Fatal error: Cannot use object of type stdClass as array in
/.../Util/XmlDeserializer.php on line 109

Here's the code that uses XmlDeserializer:
if ($batchJob->downloadUrl !== null && $batchJob->downloadUrl->url !==
null) {
$xmlResponse =
$batchJobUtils->DownloadBatchJobResults($batchJob->downloadUrl->url);
// printf("Downloaded results from %s:\n", $batchJob->downloadUrl->url);
$deserializer = new XmlDeserializer(BatchJobUtils::$CLASS_MAP);
$mutateResponse = $deserializer->ConvertXmlToObject($xmlResponse);
if (empty($mutateResponse)) {
// printf(" No results available.\n");
} elseif (isset($mutateResponse->rval)) {
foreach ($mutateResponse->rval as $mutateResult) {
// print_r($mutateResult);
if (is_array($mutateResult)) {
$outcome = $mutateResult->errorList === null ? 'SUCCESS' : 'FAILURE';
} else {
$outcome = $mutateResult === null ? 'SUCCESS' : 'FAILURE';
}
// printf(" Operation [%d] - %s\n", $mutateResult->index, $outcome);
}
}
} else {
// printf("No results available for download.\n");
}
