Re: (502)Bad Gateway
Hi Dannison, The issue occurs for calls to different services such as MutateMembers and GetUserList, but not too often. After a good number of successful calls to these services, we notice the error crops up suddenly for a couple of calls. The customer does not have the infrastructure to provide the SOAP request and response logs for now. Can you please provide your feedback on possible reasons for these sporadic failures? Hi Jill, I need a few more details on the request that was being made in order to figure out what's going on. Would you happen to have the SOAP XML or logs showing what request was being made at the time? The response in your logs could also be helpful. Hi Nadine, Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately we don't log detail XML in production and I was not able to reproduce it in dev. Would giving you the account and bulk mutate job id info help? This problem persisted all afternoon yesterday and went away in the evening. What does it mean? Seems to be specific to either the caller or destination location. Thanks! Re: 502 Bad gateway error
Hi, There's always the chance of intermittent errors, so our general recommendation is to handle 502s and other transient errors by retrying your request https://developers.google.com/adwords/api/docs/guides/bestpractices#error_handling. If you see a very high number of these errors, however, please send the corresponding request (XML, HTTP headers) *only to me* by clicking *Reply to Author* on this message. connection resets, 502 Bad Gateway errors
Since October 11th, 2014 - incidence of connection resets 502 bad gateway exceptions rose dramatically. We've decreased the frequency of requests to address the connection resets, but have been unable to get the incidence of 502 errors down to zero. Best practices advice to avoid this error? Ditto on this here too. Just a small percentage of our requests (1%) exceed the in-process retry limit and get flagged with this error. Same here, we started seeing these 502 errors as early as January 18th, but they appeared more frequently in the past few days. Retrying usually works. I've been seeing that too. Currently, we have a campaign we can't complete processing on. AdWords API Proper way to react to a 502 - Bad Gateway condition
Hi, Everyday we make about 45000 keyword (bid) changes through the API, in batches of aproximetly 256 at a time. Rigorously, some of these calls fail with error 502 - Bad Gateway. I have a few questions about how to recover and proceed from this condition: - Should I retry immediately after I get the error or should I way before reposting the request? - Will increasing the number of changes per batch, also increase the probability of getting the 502 error? - I understand that each keyword change will cost me 3 units, as for Feb 2010; will I be changed for the underlying operations anyway, if I get the 502 error? AdWords API Re: Proper way to react to a 502 - Bad Gateway condition
Hi Orly, The 502 error is something the core engineering team is aware of and working on. These errors are caused by internal timeouts on the API servers. Reducing the size of your requests may help, 256 is already a pretty low number of operations per request. When you receive this error you shouldn't be charged any API units.
