May not matter. This was cheap enough. Smart phones only last 3-4 years. If
I got 5 years from a smart phone I would be happy.

Until AUE turns your Chromebook into a brick in 6.5 years.

Reminds me of Blade Runner, and the lifespan programmed into replicants.

I dunno. I've been using a chromebook exclusively for the last couple of weeks.
It does everything I need and more. Biggest bonus is transparent updates & that
I can pick up any old chromebook and get to my stuff.

I also turned on Linux, so I can run a few Linux apps along side everything
else. It's also at least 3X faster than an equivalent Windows box. Liking it
more every day.

I don't recommend getting an all-in-one PC-monitor as you have limited monitor
size options, and if anything breaks inside, you're extremely limited in what
you can use to fix it.

I recommend just getting a mini-PC and hiding it behind the monitor. Some can
even run on 12V (may want to put power regulation in the power path depending
on how stable the source is). From where do you usually buy PCs?

I had something like that happen to my personal yahoo mail a few years ago,
except that it was more like 50,000 emails. They were having some issue
with one (or more) of their Netapp NAS systems. Took them a day or two to
sort it out. In the meantime I had downloaded all the email anyway.

I feel the same way. Librenms was easy, they offer it as an OVA, I had to
convert it for ESX, but it was a cinch. I wont use applications that
require me to be a webdude and database admin to operate it. believe me, if
its simple enough for me to put in production, its worth it

I never try and pour out of a container anymore. I use this and leave
one in each vehicle that I need to transfer fuel to. I put one battery
backwards until I need to use it to keep if from accidentally flicking on.

Surprising how fast it fills a tank. And I don't get gas everywhere and fill
the tanks right to the top.

Re: [AFMUG] Network Monitoring and Notification App

2019-01-16 Thread Sam Lambie
You can spend all your time building towers and putting up AP's and back
hauls, but without good local data to tell you where your bottlenecks are,
you aren't going to be able to sell good reliable bandwidth. Hosting a SNMP
server and anything else locally is the only way to go and is what we have
done for a long time.
I will look into LibreNMS.

I have 3 different styles of gas cans for refueling generators, and they all
suck. Thank you, government agencies who regulate gas cans.

Anyway, I picked up a "No-Spill" brand can for my snowblower and can report
that it works as advertised, yet apparently meets government rules. It's a
little finicky getting the childproof cap off to fill it, but dispensing the
gas is easy with no mess. I will be purchasing more of them for the
business. It looks like they come in 1, 2 and 5 gallon sizes, and
appropriate colors for gas, diesel and kerosene.

The only brick store I found that carried them was Ace Hardware,
maybe some auto parts stores would have them, not sure about Farm or
Tractor Supply. I was fine with Ace HW, they had all the sizes and types in
stock, and buying local is cool.

We are pulling all but ping away from powercode for out infrastructure, its
too cumbersome to get any functionally granular monitoring.
Put up a LibreNMS server for testing. In like 3 hours had all kinds of data
coming in. This is all vanilla still with the exception of configuring the
autodiscovery. Its already helped us isolate a couple other issues. im
working on the alerting right now
Network Weathermap is integrated, so thats on the list
Im digging it so far and have moved it from testing to pre production state

Nothing will ever beat SNMPc from Castlerock, but the price on thats at the
top end of a regular WISP budget

Re: [AFMUG] Meanwell UPS AD155B

2019-01-16 Thread Mathew Howard
With power supplies set to 27v, we do tend to see it drop by a few volts
when it switches to battery power - we actually use that to monitor when
we're running on batteries.

I guess the voltage going to high might be a problem if you had a really
small load though. Ideally, I suppose you'd want to keep it regulated so
that the voltage doesn't drop too low either, but when you're dealing with
gear that's intended to run on PoE, it typically is designed for a pretty
wide voltage range, just to be able to deal with differences in cable
length.

Re: [AFMUG] Meanwell UPS AD155B

2019-01-16 Thread Josh Luthman
I use the 155B as well and I find the biggest thing to factor is voltage
loss. We do 27.3 volts to charge and by the time it gets up to the
Powerbox up top, it's down a volt or two. Then the voltage to the
equipment tends to be 23-25 volts.

As was said, though, 27v should work just fine directly to the equipment.
Ubnt seems to be the closest and it seems to work without problems.

will provide regulated 24 VDC while charging and managing a 12V battery string.
Not recommended for sites with a large power draw.

Phoenix Contact has a DIN rail UPS series that provides regulated DC voltage,
but it jumps to the battery voltage when running on battery power, which kind
of defeats the purpose. Except I guess that battery voltage will not be as
high when it is supplying power rather than being charged?

Any of the current UBNT products will handle 27v just fine.

Hello

I use Meanwell AD155B’s to charge and run my 24V load.

Unfortunately the charge voltage is a tad high for the ubnt products I use.

I use a DCDC converter to go from 27v down to 24v

Is this the recommended solution? Seems a waste just to drop 3v

Does anyone know of a more suited PSU/charger/LVD unit? Perhaps with adjustable
charge and load voltages.

Thanks

Rhys
