Re: [AFMUG] 11,6ghz same antenna

Years ago. The problem is that I could not get the pattern legal for the
smaller antennas I built. I never built 6’ or larger dishes so legally 6 GHz
was out for me.

Re: [AFMUG] [ External ] Re: When to consider 450M?

2019-06-27 Thread Ken Hohhof
I wanted to try the new KP ProLine 2 ft dishes on some problem links, so the
other day I scrounged a connectorized 450 SM and we swapped out a 450b high
gain.

The signal improved about as much as expected, the interesting thing is the SNR
on both VPOL and HPOL improved dramatically along with the modulation level.

KP was nice enough to incorporate a post to fasten the SM to. It will be nice
if the connectorized 450b will mount on it.

It’s no secret Ken… just not coming soon enough! I would like to get it out
sooner, and don’t want to hype it up, because it’s not going to be available
until Q4.

Rest assured, it is coming though.

450b SMs will also help uplink due to their higher xmt power. At the expense
of 1-2 dB of antenna gain compared to a reflector dish, which could hurt
downlink.

I bought the airTV and am very pleased with it. No monthly fees. If you want
the DVR function you have to use it with the Sling App but they have a free
Sling version. Sling version has a much better on screen guide.

It has its own airTV app that does everything but DVR.

So what is the borg's conciseness on the best OTA tv interface that can do DVR,
etc?

I just realized I haven't turned on my DirecTV in weeks and it's 160mrc !

I was thinking of getting an IPTV solution + OTA antenna, needs to know the

We have had a ChannelMaster DVR+ for years and it's working fine.
They replaced it with a newer version (called something else), but
I don't remember the name of it. For everything else we run
through a Roku. We're subscribed to Netflix and Prime for most
videos, but the Roku search can usually find what we're looking
for on something else for (typically) a one-time fee of $2.99 or
$3.99. We don't watch that much stuff, so the total monthly spend
  is pretty minimal.

I just ditched Dish and now I'm using Hulu Live across my entire house.
Pretty happy so far - the quality is excellent (better than Dish), but the
guide leaves a bit to be desired compared with Dish. I hear they are
working on rolling out a new guide, though. You may also consider YouTube
TV which has a very similar channel line-up.

Check the olt/onu TX power. Probably in the +2 to +4 dBm range.

Then check the maximum RX power of the ONT. Probably in the –4 to –6 range.

Get more attenuator than you need.

I had to attenuate the signal. You can either do an inline attenuator or I
just grabbed an extra gpon splitter. IIRC I needed about 5db to get it to
work.
