Re: [AFMUG] how much is an easement worth?

Easements can be temporary (e.g. dissolve when ownership
changes), or they can "run with the land". if they run with the
land, they are essentially permanent. There are probably other
arrangements, but I'm not familiar with them.

[AFMUG] Odd centos issue

2021-01-25 Thread Steve Jones
So i have a centos server running openfire for our trillian clients to
connect to. Its been great for a few years, its the way we do all
interoffice communications with multiple same user logins.
Over the last month or so we have had issues where people arent getting
messages. Updated openfire, seemed resolved.
Today i had a tech waiting on me for a site build, finally messaged him and
he replied a screenshot of him asking me about scheduling that i never got.
So I reboot the server, neither my webmin or openfire come back up.
Troubleshooting shows appropriate ports listening. Finally i disable
iptables and everything comes up.
(Also found out you have to change repos to update old centos 6 for a yum
update)
I manage iptables through webmin, and the only policies in there are the
default deny, established related allow , 1 webmin allow and port 22
allow. My openfire server would never have worked.
During troubleshooting prior to disabling iptables i found Ipv6 was also
enabled, i defaultly disable this, and the ports were listening only on
ip6. I disabled ip6 and ip4 was listening.
We manage the ACL with a fortigate. Issue is our fortivoice needs the
firmware version to function. This firmware has an issue where everything
will get slow because of a memory leak.
Im trying to find a way this could be anything other than a compromised
system. I could have forgot to disable ip6, but the ports would have needed
to be listening on ip4, they werent.
I cant see any way the firewall would have worked at all unless i had it
disabled and a reboot enabled it again, except i have rebooted it.
I dont even know on linux how to identify a compromize. Our fortugate only
has a free account and no fortianalyzer so no long term logs exist.
Im super concerned because i have all my centos webmin instances clustered.
Anybody see any way this isnt compromised? Years of function and the sudden
presence of a firewall that would never have worked?

Also, trying modello dark, its a contender

Re: [AFMUG] SiteMonitor Base 3 POE?

2021-01-25 Thread Forrest Christian (List Account)
The input will will accept either "ubiquiti" or "cambium" polarity.

However, it needs positive voltage in relation to return. So if your
power supply is not isolated from ground, one has to be careful that it is
"positive" power, not "negative" power.

Or stated differently: The more 'negative' voltage on the PoE input will
be effectively tied to the return pins on the Vin inputs. So if you feed it
from a PoE which is -48VDC in relation to ground, it will short out
internally probably causing damage to the unit.

The voltage range is from 12-58V nominal.

You will probably not get pushback at $10/foot.

I would ask them for DIA or dark fiber if that would be of value at that
location.
Get strands or empty duct or trade strands or duct somewhere else.

I usually get the 12V22AH batteries instead of the 12v18AH APC spec.
The dimensions on those have always been the same, so I question if
there's actually a difference of if it's just fancy calculations. I
don't bother to do any adjustment of the UPS for the small AH change. I
only change the external battery number if I'm putting 100AH batteries
on it. The actual runtime will be governed by the LVD. If you hit the
LVD, then you're probably using the wrong batteries anyway.

I've just been going to Ebay recently for all my small batteries, Seems
to be 1/3 the cost of batteries plus.

Re: [AFMUG] Small Battery dimensions

2021-01-25 Thread Josh Luthman
I've regularly done 12v 9ah from batteries plus instead of the 12v 8ah. I
get a few extra minutes and it's worth the dollar or two. I think we pay
$22 per 12v 9ah.

Re: [AFMUG] First tank climb of 2021

2021-01-25 Thread Josh Luthman
Pretty sure you're the first tower climber I've seen with a mask on (at the
job site). I'd be more concerned you didn't have a harness than a mask -
looking at you Bernie.
