[AFMUG] OT: Ticketing Rage

2021-09-16 Thread Nate Burke
Working with a vendor, they take 24 hours to reply to each ticket
update, but it seems they don't even bother to read anything I've
submitted previous with troubleshooting steps already taken, or the
configuration and environment that is in use. I've had a ticket open
for 3 days now, and their latest reply was that the issue is a NAT
setting and that will fix the problem. THERE IS NO NAT, Every update
I've given you says there is no NAT. I've even given you the WAN
Address information and the specific steps to replicate the issue. Why
can't they read the previous tickets before making a reply.

[AFMUG] Medium Duty Bucket Trucks

2021-09-16 Thread Jason McKemie
I'm currently in the market for a bucket truck, and it looks like a medium
duty (especially those that require a CDL) truck is noticably cheaper than
the closest equivalent F550. Is anyone using these? Thoughts?

Thanks.

Re: [AFMUG] Field Ops Structure

2021-09-16 Thread Steve Jones
completing work orders basically.

Their job is to know whats required of each work order and ensuring their
team has the competencies to complete. If their team lacks the competency,
then they know what staff resources to request. like a working foreman.
Ideally theyll have proficiencies in all areas to step in and pick up the
slack. but you dont want a guy who can feather an excavators controls
running jobs, you want him running excavators. pay your excavator really
well so he doesnt want to be a team leader though. If the crew leader sees
that one of the techs on his team has an excellent proficiency in splicing,
give that tech some extra dough, now hes an available splicing staff
resource. If another team leader has a splice heavy work order, then they
can trade staff resources as long as it doesnt exceed that work orders
staff expense.

Re: [AFMUG] amazon problem

2021-09-16 Thread Steve Jones
I dont know if cgnat will address that or not.

But 50 users, each with 5 devices is 250 devices. That can get you a flag.

If your corporate owns the ASN, they would need to allocate you some more
IP space or have their OPs get their ASNs whitelisted with all the usual
suspects

[AFMUG] Field Ops Structure

How are you guys structuring your field ops? Do you have different levels of
installers? With diff competencies and compensation?

We are struggling with some growing pains on this. Currently have 25
installer/techs and 6 tower hands, looking to double that number in the next 6
months but need structure.

It does not appear so, the dashboard indicates the router is in bridge
mode, we are not "natting".

The problem with Amazon Prime is effecting one customer with their
"Fire" toys that we know about.  A couple other customers with "Roku"
devices say they are not having issues with their "Prime".  It's
really looking like Amazon is being a "Dick" by picking on one or some
of our customers.  Our corporate office has informed me that they have
"opened a ticket" with Amazon to get this corrected.  We're a small
wisp that is owned by a larger fiber outfit, we'll soon disappear as
the fiber-build gets here.  If our dissatisfied customers go to a
competitor, then they won't automatically get our fiber when available
so this arbitrary Amazon Dickiness will effect our bottomline.

Physical effects - The long-term performance of PEX will be damaged by
excessive UV radiation from sunlight, especially when tubing is used in
chlorinated hot-water systems after exposure (i.e. potential reduced lifetime)
- PEX should not be stored outdoors - Users should keep PEX stored indoors in
the original packaging prior to installation for protection against UV/sunlight
and other potential hazards

From what I understand is that they get a hint of a VPN operating on an IP

normally used for end users and they hammer a whole subnet.

Yes, except we aren't using a VPN or a proxy that I know about.

Anyone having trouble with amazon complaining about your ISP? I've got
customers telling me they can't connect to their amazon prime anymore.
This message shows up: "Your device is connected to the Internet using a

go to amazon.com/pv-vpn." Of course that is even more useless.

It does not appear so, the dashboard indicates the router is in bridge mode, we
are not "natting".

The problem with Amazon Prime is effecting one customer with their "Fire" toys
that we know about. A couple other customers with "Roku" devices say they are
not having issues with their "Prime". It's really looking like Amazon is being
a "Dick" by picking on one or some of our customers. Our corporate office has
informed me that they have "opened a ticket" with Amazon to get this corrected.
We're a small wisp that is owned by a larger fiber outfit, we'll soon
disappear as the fiber-build gets here. If our dissatisfied customers go to a
competitor, then they won't automatically get our fiber when available so this
arbitrary Amazon Dickiness will effect our bottomline.

Per the NANOG list, Geoguard does geo for Amazon Prime. Try emailing

Also, another gentleman on NANOG who seems to be in the know said

even though it doesn't seem like they're accomplishing anything. It
helps on the back end.
