You can send the Alpha units back for repairs. I believe it currently costs
$500.

The Sierra racks as normal, 1U for the Sierra 10 enclosure with up to 5
modules. It has a full HTTP/SNMP/SMTP monitoring interface assuming you insert
an Inview-S as a module, the best I’ve seen. AC/DC cabling comes from the back

Haven't really paid much attention to the small server room UPS space in a long
time. Normally I'd use a few 3000W APCs with external batteries. This location
has a backup generator but would prefer 45+ minutes of uptime on the servers on
batteries alone.

What is the current recommendation?

Supports rack mount external battery packs too. There’s a runtime calculator
right there on the product page.

IMO, if you want x amount of runtime, then buy it for 2x runtime. Batteries
will get weaker over time so just plan for it.

Also IMO you’re crazy if you don’t buy the network card for remote management.

Also IMO there’s nothing wrong with getting a refurb APC with new batteries.

Re: [AFMUG] Favorite Small Server Rack UPS

2022-04-27 Thread Colin Stanners
The smart-UPS 3000 have 4x 12V 18-22AH batteries IIRC. I believe the only
way to get as much or more battery/runtime in the same space is to get a
tower 750XL/1000XL/1500XL, which have 2x of those same batteries, and the
tower expansion unit which has another 4x. So 6x batteries in all should
get you about 160% of the runtime of the non-battery SU3000 due to slower
discharge, but it's not rackmount so need a shelf.
