Re: [AFMUG] OT wechat

2022-07-19 Thread Colin Stanners
I installed WeChat to communicate with Chinese suppliers. I went to a
nearby Chinese restaurant where I knew the staff and they scanned my QR as
a "friend" or similar so that I could be authorized. Ridiculous method of
signup and questionable privacy implications but it is a way to prevent
false registrations. If you send me a screenshot of your code I can try to
scan it.

We were using planet switches but found they have some limitations we don’t
like and they don’t really update their firmware unless it’s a security
issue.

We’ve been deploying mikrotik switches lately with good success.

[AFMUG] OT wechat

2022-07-19 Thread Chuck McCown via AF

Trying to get a tech support call going with a Chinese company. They use
wechat. I tried to install it and it requires another wechat user to scan a QR
code on my phone. That ain’t gonna happen. I guess there is a manual way for
another wechat user to let me into the club.

Like to have a live translator on the call too. Anyone have any

With the rack injector you can power pretty much anything. And with the switch

[AFMUG] Mobile Backhaul

2022-07-19 Thread Mike Hammett
I'm looking for referrals to what you've worked with regarding mobile backhaul
services.

We've poked around at a few vendors and it seems like it's common to have
products on either side of what I'm looking for. It appears common to offer:

1) Just a basic 10x 10G -> 1x 100G muxponder. It seems silly to have a rack
full of muxponders at the CO.
2) Complicated any color to any color ROADM and 25g -> 400G aggregation DWDM
systems that don't go down to the speeds the mobile operator would want.

It doesn't seem like people have something that offers 1x or 2x 10G with 2x
100G for east\west routing in a hardened, small form factor. Awesome if those
100G were tunable, so I could plumb them into a passive wave system.

If you read the fine print you have to notify them before they give you a ship
date or you are on the hook for those. Calix is not good about providing ship
dates and I don’t want to get caught on it.

At some point all of these manufacturers who are asking for two and three years
of PO’s are going to get caught with a shitload of excess inventory. A
Purchase Order and Order Acknowledgement constitute a valid and enforceable
legal contract. So all this talk of “just cancel what you don’t want” is
going to become just so much BS.
