Make it pink and own the brand. Either that or that safety green/yellow
color I'm sure you are seeing all over the ski slopes these days. That
might be expensive paint but it would make a statement.

world.
I am at the point where I have to choose a color for the machine.  I
will avoid Ditch Witch colors.  The John Deere trademark decision
says I could paint it green but not the same green with yellow of JD
equipment.
I hate to paint it the generic cat/JD/vermeer type of yellow that
everyone else seems to use.  It is not agricultural so probably not
JD green. Not sure if Ford blue communicates solid USA made good
stuff.  Thinking Kubota orange, but does that communicate inferior
Kubota?  Years ago Kubota was truly inferior but now-a days they make
good stuff.
It will soon get lots of grout spatter on the outside.  Almost
impossible to keep these things spotless.  So darker colors will
emphasize the mess.  Could paint it concrete gray to minimize that
but that does not excite me at all.

What color makes you think “solid, American Made, durable, good value”?

So, my first work was doing various industrial programming jobs for the
local sawmill.

They had two company trucks which tended to get beat up/ scratched just
because they spent a fair bit of time in the woods in areas without well
cleared roads. As a result they ended up repainted fairly often just to
prevent rust and the like.

The first repaint was always into a color that exactly matched the color of
the local dirt that they'd typically pick up in use. You could never tell
they were dirty except the one had a pinstripe which would dissappear when
covered with muck.

So maybe "dirt'.

I cringe when I see implements painted red white and blue, it inevitably
means theres an oversized diesel with a steel nutsack hanging off the hitch
somewhere nearby, and probably a low production crew hungover operating it.

Paint it rust color so it always looks new

Re: [AFMUG] OT Machinery colors

2022-02-20 Thread Chuck McCown via AF
All my dad’s farm trucks were baby blue. Kinda a family brand. My youngest
son who is taking over the manufacturing operation is suggesting that. I have
never seen a baby blue piece of construction equipment. I wonder if it
connotes softness, weakness? It would not show the spatter very much. I guess
we could do two tone with more of a royal blue like my logo.

The spatter and grime is mostly a grout that dries a very light gray color. So
trying to choose a lighter color to minimize the contrast.

Red, black and blue.
Black for all the stuff that'll get grimy, cylinders and such. Blue for outline
colors, maybe frame color etc, red for logos and stuff you want to stand out
my .02, for what it's worth.

Trying to avoid dark colors like barn red. I would love to paint it like LA
Rams helmets. But I don't want the extra work of two tone. White to me

How about barn red? Or "hammertone green" like a Stanley thermos?

I wouldn't think about it too much. Do people pick industrial or
agricultural machinery based on which one's color speaks to them? Or
based on name and reputation?

If it really is good quality, the color won't make it work any better,
and maybe you don't want the customers who buy based on the color of
the thing, anyway.
