Safety glasses are cheap insurance. If you buy them in bulk they are less
than $1/pair. A good buddy of mine who restores classic cars for a living
was using a bench mounted buffer to clean up a headlight bezel. No safety
glasses, because no sparks. He lost his grip for a split second and the
buffing pad caught the edge of the bezel, ran it once around and shot it
right at his eye. Sliced his cheek, eyebrow, and eyeball open. 3 surgeries
to correct and he ruined his 20/20 vision. It only takes a second.

It is a messy job. We have switched to air knives in some situations. The
cost of an air knife was so crazy I made my own for 10% of what you can buy
them for.

If you search for the origin of the traditional toast “here’s mud in your eye”,
there seem to be two competing explanations.

One is that it comes from horse racing, where all the jockeys except the leader
will get mud kicked in their eye.

The other is that it comes from Jesus curing a blind man by rubbing mud in his
eye.

I just discovered one of the team leaders tells all new hires where the safety
glasses are and to get some. He specifically remembers telling this guy to get
some. But we are making it part of the “onboarding” process. Adding it to the
paper they sign saying they got PPE.

It was satisfying getting him to knuckle under and apologize with just my
winning personality...

Eye protection is an employer responsibility.
Calling a mans wife those words mitigates all that.
If a random plane ticket were to show up here with a street address on a piece
