Re: [AFMUG] Star link travelling and results

2021-03-09 Thread Robert Andrews
If it depended upon that, it must have been ground speed as airspeed
doesn't care about that. Temp, yes, direction and speed, no... But
you're a pilot, you know that... Must have been a trick answer...

My overly optimistic forehead brain tells me that Starlink will be
so successful internationally for governments, military, industry,
remote rural etc etc that they will max out their system in the
first few years without even needing any domestic customers. I am
sure they will come out with a mobile package soon and Teslas will
have it built in.

Nobody mourned the end of dialup or ISDN. When the end of fixed
wireless comes, nobody will mourn that either. The world will move
on and you'll have to adapt to it.

But I'll be a lot more worried about Starlink if they get allocated
more spectrum. 2ghz sounds like a lot, but not that much compared
to what they're trying to do.

It will be a challenge for sure, but in cases where WISPs can offer
100mbit+ speeds to customers (usually due to few/no trees), they
should be able to compete fine.

Or cases where customers are surrounded by trees and Starlink won't
work - but in those cases they need to be ready to spend up to a
few

thousand dollars for a tower for WISP CPE.

100mbit+ speeds to customers (usually due to few/no trees), they
should be able to compete fine.

Or cases where customers are surrounded by trees and Starlink won't
work - but in those cases they need to be ready to spend up to a few
thousand dollars for a tower for WISP CPE.

My overly optimistic forehead brain tells me that Starlink will be so
successful internationally for governments, military, industry, remote rural
etc etc that they will max out their system in the first few years without even
needing any domestic customers. I am sure they will come out with a mobile
package soon and Teslas will have it built in.

Nobody mourned the end of dialup or ISDN. When the end of fixed wireless
comes, nobody will mourn that either. The world will move on and you'll have
to adapt to it.

But I'll be a lot more worried about Starlink if they get allocated more
spectrum. 2ghz sounds like a lot, but not that much compared to what they're
trying to do.

Once (if?) they the sat-to-sat interlink working, autocratic

That is what I supposed.   He is hunting the big game right now,
government grants.   To do that he has to show that he feeds off little
people as well as whales   The video I shared was a very poor test.
Reading through the FAQ it's explained that dishes are tied to "cells"
which is a particular string of sats over a particular area sounding
about 25 miles radius, but varying by sat pattern geometry..   Just had
a friend get his, and set it up about 70 miles from his registered
location and it initially connected then quickly disconnected and gave
him a hocus-pocus no no message..

I dont know, single shared surface exposure for multiple nations doesnt
seem like something the US government at least would jump at, but then
again its dumb to do that so the US government may jump at it, probably
will mandate every nuclear reactor have one of the dishes on top of it too.

Re: [AFMUG] Star link travelling and results

2021-03-08 Thread Chuck McCown via AF
One of the most important parts of a drill is the tracking package that comes
with it. I use underground magnetics but I think I pay something like $12K for
the tracker and sonde. A good tracker is really important. Old digitrackers
or subsite trackers work, but takes much more skill to use.

I went with a buddy to look at a horizontal drill this weekend. The seller is
going to train me on the process. No different than dial up operators who
decided to learn the OSP of the next iteration of data delivery.

But I'll be a lot more worried about Starlink if they get allocated more
spectrum. 2ghz sounds like a lot, but not that much compared to what they're
trying to do.

It will be a challenge for sure, but in cases where WISPs can offer
100mbit+ speeds to customers (usually due to few/no trees), they should be able
to compete fine.

Or cases where customers are surrounded by trees and Starlink won't work -
but in those cases they need to be ready to spend up to a few thousand dollars
for a tower for WISP CPE.
