Some distributions are heading that way but there’s still some pretty massive
MySQL open source based deployments out there…… and I honestly don’t think
that will change much with Oracle involved. I know that’s hard to believe :)

Re: [AFMUG] best rental options for internet for a cruise

2016-11-07 Thread fiberrun
Iridium Go has an unlimited $120 flat rate plan if you are ok with ancient
dial-up speeds and using only email, texts and ssh.

Here's a write up from a guy on a cruise ship using it:
http://www.revk.uk/2014/09/still-at-sea.html

$200 isn't bad for 450 MB of data, as most other mobile pay-as-you-go plans
(such as BGAN) will be far more. In addition there will be equipment rental
fees unless you buy the terminal. The terminals are quite expensive, $800 or
so, but I guess you can buy used or sell it once you are done. Still probably
more expensive than $200 in the end.

Oracle provides native EL7 packages for mysql-community (via repo.mysql.com)
that make it very easy for folks to install mysql-community on EL7.

Was just on Royal Caribbean back in September. Something like $20 a day per
MAC address.

Used a Mikrotik while in the stateroom to get internet to all the devices
from my phones MAC address, then used my phone when I walked around.

Good enough for making VoIP calls and everything else. Was one of the best

For now you can use the 450SM bare, with a stinger or in a reflector,
450d(similar to force200) or 450i(way too expensive).

Q1 2017 (which actually probably means late April or mid May 2017 ;-) there
will be a wide band 450sm that does 4.9-6ghz.

Oh, right, Stinger. Chuck will probably ban me for mentioning it, but
there’s also the CLIP, we actually use a bunch of them. Assembly time is about
2 seconds, it actually takes longer to get it out of the box, but on the plus
side the boxes are great as parts bins.

For now you can use the 450SM bare, with a stinger or in a reflector,
450d(similar to force200) or 450i(way too expensive).

Q1 2017 (which actually probably means late April or mid May 2017 ;-) there
will be a wide band 450sm that does 4.9-6ghz.

While we are talking about 450i vs 450. I just got my first 450i AP up over
the weekend, I noticed that 450i has a lot more TX power than 450, 25db
capable compared to 22db. But then I also notice that on 5.4ghz the 450i is
only 19db capable. Also it appears the 450i can do the full 25db power
output on a 30mhz channel which I am assuming is at full 8x modulation.
What is the power output at max modulation that a Mimosa A5 can run at?

Re: [AFMUG] SQL Server Express Edition question

2016-11-07 Thread Sovereen, David A
SQLServer Express can be installed on and will run on any machine. Many
business applications for Windows (Point of Sale, Scheduling, etc) use it in
the background and install it silently during installation. It will only use
the resources allowed, so if it is 1GB RAM and 1 CPU and you have more memory
and CPU, it will still run; it will just only use the max memory and max CPU it
is specified to use.

The limitations seem to be 1GB memory, 10GB database size (per database), and 1

will be restricted to not using more than 1GB of it. Thankfully, because who

But what about the 1 physical CPU. I am wanting to put this on a used DL380 G7
with dual 6-core CPUs. I can’t find how the single CPU is enforced. Is it

a) Will refuse to run on a dual CPU machine
b) Similar to the memory limitation, will run but SQL will only use 1 CPU
c) Not enforced until Microsoft does an audit and forces me to pay $3000 plus
fines

Oh, and don’t get me going on licensing for Windows Server 2016, that looks
feasless, I assume I need to go with 2012 R2.

It will be the most profitable drug ever created.

Until then, there is always the buffet...

Yes... Better to relax and recharge... I had an uncle who worked every waking
hour and was very wealthy in the apple and peach farming industry... He brought

communicate with ranch and warehouses while traveling...had several Cessnas

I was confused on which partner you were. She talked about someone who gave
her $3K and rent for a year and then two who gave her something like $25K
each for half. Do you mind telling us which you were? I was surprised she
had already given up so much but if you need the money you need it.
Even the money in the bank is worthless for earnings, cash is still king
when you just have to have it.

For now you can use the 450SM bare, with a stinger or in a
reflector, 450d(similar to force200) or 450i(way too expensive).

Q1 2017 (which actually probably means late April or mid May 2017
;-) there will be a wide band 450sm that does 4.9-6ghz.

[AFMUG] ipv6 to ipv6 translation?

2016-11-07 Thread Zach Underwood
I am going to be pre staging some gear for an event. The event location
will have native dual stack ipv6 connection and so will the staging
location. I would like to pre configure the gear in staging with ipv6 but
the ipv6 range from the event location will be different than the range
from staging. Is there way that I can use the event location ipv6 range at
staging by some translation mode. Something like a one ipv6 address to one
ipv6 address?

Subject: Re: [AFMUG] OT Travis and Shark Tank

Hi,

The Shark Tank episode was very edited and chopped together. She was actually
in front of the sharks for over 90 minutes... they cut it down to 8. Here is
the basic summary:

She started the company with her brother after he gave her about $2,000 to buy
inventory. They tried out for Shark Tank (4 years ago) and didn't make it past
the first stage. Another person saw a local news episode about her and the
company, and contacted her. He gave her $3,000 in cash, and paid her rent for a
year in exchange for 50% of the company (basically buying out her brother).

Those two were involved for about 2 months before they realized they needed
more money and expertise to make anything happen. They contacted me via email,
and we had a meeting. We told them in the meeting we would do an investment,
and asked how much and what they would give up. They told us $30,000 for 50% of
the company. We gave them exactly what they asked for. Also, at this point, her
total sales for all of 2014 was $7,000. That's TOTAL SALES... not profit. So
there are four of us, each at 25% ownership right now.

We then took the company from $9,000 total sales in 2014 to $1 million in sales
in 2015. We provided business experience, obtained a line of credit at the
bank, helped setup the e-commerce website, helped finance inventory (doing a
personal loan to the company), etc.

We then put a CEO in late 2015 that has helped take the company from $1 million
in 2015 to now we will do over $4 million in 2016.

There is not a single person I know of that would have invested $30k to a
business that had only done $7k in total sales for the year. No shark, no other
investor I have ever talked to about this deal. Everyone just laughs when I
tell them.

This episode was actually filmed about three months ago. We only received
paperwork from Daymond's group about two weeks ago, and we are still in
negotiation with him. The deal paperwork is SUBSTANTIALLY different than the
episode shows ($400k for 20%). He has had no involvement with the company thus
far, and does not have any ownership or equity yet.

Honestly, not much... :(

Over the last 3 days, we have seen about $70,000 in additional sales...
so it made a difference, but not what we were hoping for. Our single
biggest day was in June this year, when we went all out on marketing and
FB ads and we did $108,000 in sales in a single day.

There is not a single person I know of that would have invested $30k to
a business that had only done $7k in total sales for the year. No shark,
no other investor I have ever talked to about this deal. Everyone just
laughs when I tell them.

This episode was actually filmed about three months ago. We only
received paperwork from Daymond's group about two weeks ago, and we are
still in negotiation with him. The deal paperwork is SUBSTANTIALLY
different than the episode shows ($400k for 20%). He has had no
involvement with the company thus far, and does not have any ownership
or equity yet.

Honestly, not much... :(

Over the last 3 days, we have seen about $70,000 in additional sales... so it
made a difference, but not what we were hoping for. Our single biggest day was
in June this year, when we went all out on marketing and FB ads and we did
$108,000 in sales in a single day.

  Hi,

The Shark Tank episode was very edited and chopped together. She was actually
in front of the sharks for over 90 minutes... they cut it down to 8. Here is
the basic summary:

She started the company with her brother after he gave her about $2,000 to
buy inventory. They tried out for Shark Tank (4 years ago) and didn't make it
past the first stage.

We then took the company from $9,000 total sales in 2014 to $1 million in
sales in 2015. We provided business experience, obtained a line of credit at
the bank, helped setup the e-commerce website, helped finance inventory (doing
a personal loan to the company), etc.

We then put a CEO in late 2015 that has helped take the company from $1
million in 2015 to now we will do over $4 million in 2016.

There is not a single person I know of that would have invested $30k to a

Is this going to hurt the tree? Is the tree going to go around the

I have historically avoided any installs in trees, so I have no

buy inventory. They tried out for Shark Tank (4 years ago) and didn't make it
past the first stage.

There is not a single person I know of that would have invested $30k to a
business that had only done $7k in total sales for the year.

Over the last 3 days, we have seen about $70,000 in additional

Hi,

The Shark Tank episode was very edited and chopped together. She
was actually in front of the sharks for over 90 minutes... they
cut it down to 8. Here is the basic summary:

She started the company with her brother after he gave her about
$2,000 to buy inventory. They tried out for Shark Tank (4 years
ago) and didn't make it past the first stage. Another person saw
a local news episode about her and the company, and contacted
her. He gave her $3,000 in cash, and paid her rent for a year in
exchange for 50% of the company (basically buying out her brother).

Those two were involved for about 2 months before they realized
they needed more money and expertise to make anything happen.
They contacted me via email, and we had a meeting. We told them
in the meeting we would do an investment, and asked how much and
what they would give up. They told us $30,000 for 50% of the
company. We gave them exactly what they asked for. Also, at this
point, her total sales for all of 2014 was $7,000. That's TOTAL
SALES... not profit. So there are four of us, each at 25%
ownership right now.

We then took the company from $9,000 total sales in 2014 to $1
million in sales in 2015. We provided business experience,
obtained a line of credit at the bank, helped setup the
e-commerce website, helped finance inventory (doing a personal
loan to the company), etc.

We then put a CEO in late 2015 that has helped take the company
from $1 million in 2015 to now we will do over $4 million in 2016.

There is not a single person I know of that would have invested
$30k to a business that had only done $7k in total sales for the

This episode was actually filmed about three months ago. We only
received paperwork from Daymond's group about two weeks ago, and
we are still in negotiation with him. The deal paperwork is
SUBSTANTIALLY different than the episode shows ($400k for 20%).
He has had no involvement with the company thus far, and does

[AFMUG] UBNT S16 SNMP or Net::Telnet ....

2016-11-07 Thread Justin Marshall
Hi,

I'm looking for the SNMP OID's for POE config on the UBNT EdgePoint S16.
Specifically the ones that would let you disable/enable passive24v on a
specific port.

I tried an snmpwalk, but without a MIB there's a lot to dig through.

I actually found a thread on UBNT's forums that say you have to retrieve them
from the filesystem itself
(https://community.ubnt.com/t5/EdgeMAX/SNMP-MIB-File/td-p/464763), but can't
figure out how to actually get at the filesystem. SSH & Telnet both yield
"(UBNT EdgeSwitch) (Config)#" prompts with no real way to get underneath
(unless it's so obvious I'm just somehow missing it)

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

If not... Has anyone had luck with Net::Telnet and the Edgepoint S16? I've not
been able to get a script to get past "configure" (nothing but timeouts, even
when matching the specific prompt)

Thanks,
Justin

+1

Was just on Royal Caribbean back in September. Something like $20 a day per
MAC address.

Used a Mikrotik while in the stateroom to get internet to all the devices from
my phones MAC address, then used my phone when I walked around.

Good enough for making VoIP calls and everything else. Was one of the best

I don't think these support SNMP write (despite the UI/CLI saying so...)
It's possible, as they are an entirely different product core from
everything else... but if they do support it, I'd be surprised if (A) it
was correctly exposed, and (B) write was correctly implemented. If $both ==
TRUE; then you sir have hit the lottery.

It supports telnet and SSH.

I remember having a bit of a time trying to install Net::SSH on the machine I
need to run this on so I haven’t tried that yet.

I actually just figured out if I set $t->errmode("return"); and have a 60
second timeout, my script now makes it all the way through.

Just wish I could do this via SNMP so it would run in under 1-2 seconds as
opposed to 1.5-2 minutes.

Honestly, not much... :(

Over the last 3 days, we have seen about $70,000 in additional sales...
so it made a difference, but not what we were hoping for. Our single biggest
day was in June this year, when we went all out on marketing and FB ads and we
did $108,000 in sales in a single day.

  Hi,

The Shark Tank episode was very edited and chopped together. She was
actually in front of the sharks for over 90 minutes... they cut it down to 8.
Here is the basic summary:

She started the company with her brother after he gave her about
$2,000 to buy inventory. They tried out for Shark Tank (4 years ago) and didn't
make it past the first stage. Another person saw a local news episode about her
and the company, and contacted her. He gave her $3,000 in cash, and paid her
rent for a year in exchange for 50% of the company (basically buying out her
brother).

Those two were involved for about 2 months before they realized they
needed more money and expertise to make anything happen. They contacted me via
email, and we had a meeting. We told them in the meeting we would do an
investment, and asked how much and what they would give up. They told us
$30,000 for 50% of the company. We gave them exactly what they asked for. Also,
at this point, her total sales for all of 2014 was $7,000. That's TOTAL
SALES... not profit. So there are four of us, each at 25% ownership right now.

We then took the company from $9,000 total sales in 2014 to $1
million in sales in 2015. We provided business experience, obtained a line of
credit at the bank, helped setup the e-commerce website, helped finance
inventory (doing a personal loan to the company), etc.

We then put a CEO in late 2015 that has helped take the company from
$1 million in 2015 to now we will do over $4 million in 2016.

There is not a single person I know of that would have invested $30k
to a business that had only done $7k in total sales for the year. No shark, no
other investor I have ever talked to about this deal. Everyone just laughs when
I tell them.

This episode was actually filmed about three months ago. We only
received paperwork from Daymond's group about two weeks ago, and we are still
in negotiation with him. The deal paperwork is SUBSTANTIALLY different than the
episode shows ($400k for 20%). He has had no involvement with the company thus
far, and does not have any ownership or equity yet.

Reality TV is not very real. LOL

[AFMUG] Enclosure for WS-12-250-DC

2016-11-07 Thread Josh Luthman
Every enclosure I've used is a few inches too shallow for the switch. I'd
like to avoid putting holes in the sides/top/bottom of the fiber glass to
mount a DIN rain. The switch is 8.25" inch deep so I'd need roughly 8.5"
deep or more enclosure.

Any suggestions welcome, I am primarily looking at DIN mounting everything
and putting rack mount as a worst case backup.

We've used the raised lid enclosures. A normally 8" deep enclosure

Yeah, even 10" won't cut it with this switch once you consider the
connections into the switch (and the enclosure's backplane).
