In a lab with unlimited spectrum maybe. It will be a fraction of this in
all reality. They could get closer with millimeter wave, but that's a
different animal entirely.

We just started using Tsheets at the first of this year. So far it seems
great, but I still have not taken the time to really dig into it and learn
a few things I need to figure out how to add paid holidays and try to get
the automatic QuickBooks Integration working. I have not had enough
experience with Tsheets to tell you if it has the specific features that
you are looking for. We were choosing between uAttend and Tsheets.

Let’s not forget that for HF antennas to have a low angle of takeoff for DX
capability, they should be a quarter wavelength off the ground. With the lowest
frequency on the HF band being 1.8 MHz, 80 foot is more than easily justified.

Frequency, gain, directivity all play a part. The normal rule of thumb is that
if your tower did not blow over in the last big storm the antenna was not big
enough.

You could stick up a 1.2 GHz omni about the size of your thumb, or even a 10
GHz beacon that would be even smaller.
2 meter quarter wave whip is 19 inches and could be mounted on the side of the
tower.

Looking to see what type of antenna (without a lot of wind load) that a
customer can put on an 80ft. tower. They do not yet have their amateur license
but working on it. By placing an amateur radio antenna, the FCC mandates the
local government to let them put up an 80 ft. tower. I am not certain there
has to be any kind of justification of what type of antenna (or anything else)
but just in case, it would be nice to have some insight.

Since I am not an amateur license holder, I am not knowledgeable on the
subject. At the “end of the day” once the tower is erected and final
inspection is completed, then the customer will also put up an ePMP Force 200
to get service from us at 6miles away.

2. At least the RF armor ones are VERY sturdily built
3. Dry snow will not substantially attenuate RF at the short range

Re: [AFMUG] EPMP1000 Heater POE Polarity

2017-02-22 Thread Nate Burke
My Infrared Thermometer measures the freezer at 18degrees. I'm not sure
what the cutoff temperature for the heater is. I can say that I was
bringing up a new site @24v on a 30degree day. I plugged the cable in
on the ground, waited a few minutes, the AP still had not come up, I
climbed up the leg to investigate, saw the AP in what appeared to be a
Reboot loop, waited a few more minutes, and it finally booted up. So
I'd say that was at least 10 minutes. That's what prompted me to start
testing.

I have an edgepoint R6 running at 30v input now, The edgepoint still
seems fine, and it looks like that's enough to power the heater in the EPMP.

This is really only relevant if it's something like <10F when you
first boot it up, right? If it's booted and warm, a cold snap isn't
going to make it go down.

2017-02-22 Thread Rory Conaway
My favorite was Rep. Hank Johnson from Georgia discussing the military buildup
in Guam.

In a discussion regarding a planned military buildup on the Pacific island,
Johnson expressed some concerns about the plans to Adm. Robert Willard, head of
the U.S. Pacific fleet.
"My fear is that the whole island will become so overly populated that it will
tip over and capsize," Johnson said. Willard paused and replied, "We don't
anticipate that."

we replaced a couple of those when we took over a network once. The
company, bullguard or whatever was pretty good to deal with. I didnt like
the management software that was required for the units, java based, but it
was old. The feature set was pretty slick though. FYI fortigate gives a
decent trade in discount on watchguards

2.5 million feral hogs
Divide that by 100. 25,000
Give 25,000 hunting permits to folks from south of the border.
If they bag 100 hogs they get to stay and work for 5 years.

Have them fall down a hole full of carbon dioxide. Once a day haul them to the

No such thing.

So ask (1) who is requiring this or (2) who is paying for this? Then ask, what
is their approved solution that they are willing to approve and/or pay for?

If this is genuinely not being pushed by some government mandate, I would
question DNS as being too simplistic. Just recently the TV news here had a
story about parents show were shocked, shocked to discover their kids
school-issued computers allowed them to use Google Hangouts, which the kids
were using for inappropriate messages. The idea that you can block all
inappropriate content by a simple method like what DNS servers you use, seems
naïve to me. So, should the DNS servers let you go to Wikipedia, or not? CNN is
dishonest media, should that be blocked? What about RT? Or, for an example of
what happens when you try to censor the Internet by blocking IP addresses, look
at the news stories about Cogent blocking Cloudflare IP addresses associated

Any kid with any smarts at all can do direct ip to proxy with no effort. If
they want to keep the kids out of the porn, then the system must be airgapped.
No real world internet connection. Perhaps go do google searches and cache all
the stuff they would be likely to need for class room assignments, then break
the connection and tell them it is on the computer... go find it.

CNN
is dishonest media, should that be blocked? What about RT? Or, for an example
of what happens when you try to censor the Internet by blocking IP addresses,
look at the news stories about Cogent blocking Cloudflare IP addresses
associated with Pirate Bay but also causing collateral damage to other sites
sharing those IPs.

Re: [AFMUG] OT: Smallest amateur radio antenna that would require height to function well

2017-02-22 Thread Chuck McCown

5G. 5th generation? 5 GHz? 5 Gigawatts? This term is much more in the ether
than something like LTE. The cell companies hyped up the marketing to the
point where it lost the original meaning.

Thanks everyone for the feedback.

Chuck, I will check the version of the GIGE-APC. Although when I ordered from
CTI “my guy” assured me they were the newest.

George, I ran the unit on 48 volts for a while but wanted to step down to 30
volts incase down the road someone plugs a none GPS ePMP backhaul into the
unit. Not sure how the none GPS ePMP would feel about 48 volts.

Thanks,

Forest,

Thanks for the reply. I will answer your questions below but won’t be able to
try the breaking of the shielded cable until I visit the site again. It could
be a couple weeks before I am there again.

Here is the info:

We were running 24 volts ( although as you pointed out I took it up to 48 volts
by putting it in place of the 450i) I did not have a 30 volt on the truck so
put the 24 volt in until I could replace it.

Cable length is less than 200 feet probably closer to 180 feet.

It was about 40 degrees F when I was trying to do this and sunny.

This is a gigabit sync injector . The 450i that I plugged it in place of was/
is being fed by a PowerInjector Plus. ( have not touched the jumpers)

These are being feed through a MTOW ( newest version rack mount APC style )
suppression. I could look it up for model but I think you know what I mean.

One thing worth mentioning is my MicroTik RB1100 was having issues negotiation
Gig connections on the ePMP APs and the 450i APs. I ended up letting it
negotiate 100mb instead. The ePMP backhauls are running auto negotiated gig no
problem but are on Cambium OEM POE instead of a packetflux for power. Same
suppression in place and same shielded cables.

Let me know your thoughts. I am happy to try breaking the shielding connection
and report back but like I said it could be a few weeks.

Thanks Brandon

It sounds like you covered all of your bases, especially since you plugged the
ePMP radio in where the 450i was and it didn't work.So some of the ones
below don't seem to apply:

What voltage are you running the injector at?

How much cable length are you running?

The ePMP radios reallly are picky about 24V and long cable runs, especially
when it's cold out.

This is a gigabit syncinjector, right? If so, I won't ask you if you changed
any jumpers in the units.

I do have one very odd request:

If these are shielded cables running up the tower, can you somehow break the
shield on the bottom end? A short unshielded pigtail to a keystone jack often
works. If you have a surge protector at the bottom, try inserting this either
between the injector and the surge, and alternatively between the surge and the
cable up the tower.I've had 1-2 reports that reterminating the cables with
unshielded ends at the bottom causes otherwise unsyncable ePMP radios to
suddenly start receiving sync.

I am not sure how my 450i APs can be receiving GPS from the unit but the ePMP

I ended up doing a climb and relocated the antenna for the onboard GPS in the

Subject: Re: [AFMUG] ePMP and Packet Flux configuration settings. (UPDATE)

A short unshielded pigtail to a keystone jack often
works. If you have a surge protector at the bottom, try inserting this either
between the injector and the surge, and alternatively between the surge and the
cable up the tower.I've had 1-2 reports that reterminating the cables with
unshielded ends at the bottom causes otherwise unsyncable ePMP radios to
suddenly start receiving sync.

and no joy still no GPS. Frustrated I ended up unplugging the cable feeing one
of my 450iAPs that was receiving sync from the PowerInjector Plus and plugged
the ePMP APs cable into it. Still no joy no GPS after waiting several minutes.
I am not sure how my 450i APs can be receiving GPS from the unit but the ePMP
doesn’t from the same feed.

I ended up doing a climb and relocated the antenna for the onboard GPS in the
ePMP. It now has GPS from the onboard unit but it would still be nice to have
the secondary over power working.

Any thoughts I am all ears.

The ePMP Sync radios don't do AutoSync like Canopy. You have to select
internal (generate in Canopy terms), GPS (on-board), CMM3 or CMM4 for Sync

That sounds like a WIFI company we have here boasting the most BS I have seen
in a while. So, happy to get sloppy seconds after customer had their fill .

Qualcomm conflate sector capacity with end user speed. As well as neglecting
to explain that all that unlicensed spectrum will only be used for urban small
cells, not the celltower 5 miles from your house in the country.

Now the first wifi is called 5G. And who is the marketing winner: mimosa.
But of course air-„fiber“ is not bad, too.

Both companies should move some sales guys to the engineering staff to make
their
Ptmp wifi gear gps work before claiming the next big thing.
