you should work directly with packetflux to get this going on the bench,
replicate everything you can (cable length, ground, etc). Cambium is not
going to be as malleable

Andreas, I am doing the same thing. I really like Forrest Rack injector, so I
might hold off on that to power and sync it, but I am definitely going to run
fiber into it. I am looking at options to do this, and was wondering if you
came up with a good idea or tap system that you think will work to run fiber
into the sfp ports? I might splice a 12 strand loose tune on the ground in a
breakout box and then use rugged patch cords to the radio on top? I would like
to use a tap system but I haven’t found one yet that has a duplex lc jumper?

Thanks, Criag.

You can also power a medusa with any PacketFlux PowerInjector+Sync, forgot to
mention this. Power+Ethernet, but not sync (the 450m doesn't support
old-style canopy sync).

Shouldn't be a problem at that length for power, not so much ethernet (but use
a 56V power supply). And a lot cheaper than a CMM5.

Re: [AFMUG] 450M maximum length of Cat5e (Just for power)

2017-12-30 Thread Forrest Christian (List Account)
The syncbox junior Aux port that Neil mentioned is what we recommend for
most people if they are powering the radios in another way. If you use
this for sync, then I don't see any reason why you couldn't just hardwire
the appropriate pins in a CAT5 cable to a 56V power supply and skip the
CMM5 altogether. This of course would prevent remote power control unless
you used something like a packetflux PDU to control the power.

The cambium sync card for the rackinjector is coming, will be up for
pre-orders (hopefully early) next week, 99% sure shipping by the end of
January. There will be a detailed explanation of the exact schedule up on
the web site when we put the units up for preorder. We were going to have
them up this past week, but we decided we didn't need to book the income in
2017 since the tax man is already taking too much from us in 2017.

We'll give that a month or two of being in the field then will likely
release this circuitry in a powerinjector form factor for the 450i/450m.

2017-12-29 Thread Andreas Wiatowski
I don’t have a CMM5. I have been using CMM4 and Packetflux over the years. I
didn’t know PF had a Medusa capable unit on the market…I will take a look.

Do you need to run data over the CAT 5?
If not, you really don’t need the CMM5, just connect all the wires of similar
polarity and connect direct to the power supply.

Good Morning,

We have a couple of large towers where we will be installing 450M with fibre.
To power we, would like to use the CMM5 , but we are unsure if we can power the
M sufficiently over such a long CAT 5 run. Does anyone have the answer to
this? We could see cat5 runs (Shielded and gell filled) of upto 500ft!

If you use 23G Cat-6, you should be fine. We just connected a Ubiquiti Unifi
