I just added Philo. It has discovery. $16/month.
And it has DVR. Directvnow still has not launched DVR.

I think it may be the best value.

This should allow me to disconnect directvnow and slingtv.
However I am not disconnecting slingtv until I have a low cost alternative to
adding HBO.

Philo has HBO as an investor and was supposed to be adding it shortly after
launch, but so far not happening.

Sorry I’ve been using a Roku since I got it but only had it a couple months. It
was $35 when it started and just changed to $40 on March 13th. Anyone signed
up before then gets to keep $35. The other one people are talking about is
DirectTV Now. Has a lot of stations none of the others have. You can also share
youtubetv with 5 emails addresses. Makes it nice to just share it with other
family without the fear of breaking TOS.

Philo is $16, on Roku, has DVR and has Discovery. A hat trick for me.

Now if I could only add HBO and Showtime for $7 or $8 a piece we would be
golden.

There is so much free stuff on Roku, low income folks getting subsidized
lifeline internet and an aerial could have an ocean of TV to watch.

I spend a bit of time on Pluto. Mostly the movies. Reruns. The Eye Candy
channel cracks me up. I cannot imagine how they can make money producing such
a thing.

Right, our biggest challenge with YouTube TV when messing with the different
options for our own use was the interface. You either have to Chromecast it
or use Apple TV. My basic requirements for streaming are:

No proprietary device needed – Supports Roku, Apple TV and others as well as PC
and Moble. (YouTube TV is kind of there)

DVR – Been running the DirecTVNow beta DVR, seems OK. YouTube’s works well.
I would like to try Philo.

Local Channels – Would really like to have this on the same DVR as the rest of
the content. Ie. Wouldn’t want a separate DVR for OTA local channels. Not
sure if Philo does any local channels?

Has FoxSports -

The good news is there are lots of options. The bad news is that the field is
still evolving and things change frequently. However, our primary goal was
accomplished, which was getting rid of the expensive satellite bill. (Although
in the interim that means subscribing to DirecTVNow and YouTube TV 😊 )
Likely we will do DirecTVNow only once the DVR is fully rolled out. They just
got the Roku DVR client in Beta in the last week or so, that was a big one for
us.

And it has DVR.  Directvnow still has not launched DVR.
I think it may be the best value.
This should allow me to disconnect directvnow and slingtv.
However I am not disconnecting slingtv until I have a low cost
alternative to adding HBO.
Philo has HBO as an investor and was supposed to be adding it
shortly after launch, but so far not happening.

Re: [AFMUG] OT streaming

I had it via SlingTV for $8 or $7 as an add on.
I am not going to get rid of Amazon or Hulu so I will check to see if they have
a comparable add on for HBO.
Be nice if Philo launched it.

Current productions like Game of Thrones, Silicon Valley, Westworld.

Miniseries like Band of Brothers, Generation Kill, The Pacific, From the
Earth to the Moon.

HBO has a lot of original programming.

Westworld also has 12 million viewers. It was the largest ever viewership
for a first-season series on HBO.

HBONow is $10 through the Roku. That is what we use. It isn't the full
HBO, but most everything is on there.

I signed up to be a beta for Hulu yesterday too.
Sling DVR works but isn't as good as satellite TV or my tivo.

I never saw the VUE dvr, I cancelled service when they shut me off without
warning.

If tivo had Discovery I would cancel the directv now service. I keep
hoping that directv now will get the DVR and ROKU ap running soon. I like
its UI and guide.
