[Bug 1883545] Re: Focal needs a new upload of fwupd-signed

2020-04-17 Thread Daniel Holbach
As xwax requires you to have relevant hardware, here's a workaround to
try if "rtprio" works for you:

1) sudo apt install jackd1
2) add "@audio - rtprio 99" to /etc/security/limits somewhere
3) make sure you're in the audio group
4) new login/shell
5) run "jackd -d alsa"

[Bug 1873315] [NEW] 5.4.0-24.28 does not seem to apply rtprio, whereas -21 does.

2020-04-16 Thread Daniel Holbach
Public bug reported:

I'm using the xwax package on a Dell XPS 13 (9370) 20.04, which requires
rtprio privileges:

[daniel@reef ~ ]$ sudo cat /etc/security/limits.d/audio.conf
@audio - rtprio 99
[daniel@reef ~ ]$

This worked fine for the past releases of Ubuntu up until the move from
linux-image-5.4.0-21-generic to linux-image-5.4.0-24-generic.

Today I'm seeing:

Launching realtime thread to handle devices...
sched_setscheduler: Operation not permitted
Failed to get realtime priorities

Booting the previous kernel makes it work.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1873315] [NEW] 5.4.0-24.28 does not seem to apply rtprio, whereas -21 does.

2020-04-16 Thread Daniel Holbach
Public bug reported:

I'm using the xwax package on a Dell XPS 13 (9370) 20.04, which requires
rtprio privileges:

[daniel@reef ~ ]$ sudo cat /etc/security/limits.d/audio.conf
@audio - rtprio 99
[daniel@reef ~ ]$

This worked fine for the past releases of Ubuntu up until the move from
linux-image-5.4.0-21-generic to linux-image-5.4.0-24-generic.

Today I'm seeing:

Launching realtime thread to handle devices...
sched_setscheduler: Operation not permitted
Failed to get realtime priorities

Booting the previous kernel makes it work.

Bug#902904: pygithub: Please update to latest upstream

2018-07-03 Thread Daniel Holbach
Package: pygithub
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

the last update of pygithub was done in 2015, it'd be great if it could
be updated. 1.40 was released last week - it'd be nice if this was
available in Debian.

Thanks a lot in advance.

Have a great day,
 Daniel

Hello,

I think it should be possible to fix this in
lp:~ubuntu-packaging-guide-team/+junk/update-packaging-guide. Somebody
with access to the right server would need to push this though.

Have a great day,
 Daniel

That seems to fix the problem - I was even able to configure the printer

That seems to fix the problem - I was even able to configure the printer
without having to use the hp-toolbox stuff. Thanks Séb!

Looking for Community Council nominations

2017-07-02 Thread Daniel Holbach
Hello everybody,

The Community Council is looking for nominees for the upcoming election.

In the past months and weeks Laura and Mike stepped down from the CC for
personal reasons, so we decided to restaff the CC a bit early. Normally,
elections would have been in November, so we're a few months early.

If you are interested in the CC's work, have a look at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/CommunityCouncil and the pages linked from
there. If you're an Ubuntu member, have been involved in the Ubuntu
community for a good while and know its inner workings well, please
consider nominating yourself or, if you know somebody and asked them,
please nominate them for the role. The term length is two years and all
Ubuntu members are eligible for voting.

To nominate, just send a quick mail to
community-coun...@lists.ubuntu.com with the name and Launchpad ID of the
person you're nominating. Don't be shy.

Mark will shortlist the list of nominations and we hope to kick off the
election process in about two weeks.

Thanks a lot everyone who was on the CC these past (almost) two years.

Have a great day,
 Daniel

Looking for list moderators

2016-12-08 Thread Daniel Holbach
Hello everybody,

I'm looking for additional moderators for some of our mailing lists.

It's not a lot of work, it's just a matter of setting up the listadmin
tool and running it regularly. In a lot of cases our spam filters let
some mails through, in other cases there are genuine mails which need
moderation. Sometimes there's an off-topic post or other issues to deal
with, but not so often.

It's the following lists:

 ubuntu-app-de...@lists.ubuntu.com
 ubuntu-devel-disc...@lists.ubuntu.com
 ubuntu-m...@lists.ubuntu.com
 ubuntu-spons...@lists.ubuntu.com
 universe-b...@lists.ubuntu.com

If you are an Ubuntu member and a trusted contributor to those lists,
I'm happy to share access and let you know the process. Just drop me a
private email letting me know which list(s) you want to look after.

Thanks a lot in advance.

Have a great day,
 Daniel

Status in appstream package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
  [Impact]

   * The recent update of the Ubuntu asgen instance yielded it to
generate modern metadata. While we could tell asgen to generate old-
style metadata, fixing appstream is the better idea, since we already
applied similar patches to appstream-glib (and having this package
hold back updates is a bad idea). Currently, the unknown metadata is
considered to be broken by appstream and it displays a warning about
that issue during an `apt update`

   * The attached patch includes a second change to make AppStream more
robust against broken YAML data, ensuring LP #1579712 can not be
triggered on purpose or due to broken disks creating damaged YAML
  structure.

  [Test Case 1]

   * apt update
   * Check for errors about metadata being ignored

  [Test Case 2]

   * appstreamcli refresh --force
   * Check for errors about metadata being ignored
   * Check if we ignored data that should be present
(search for it via `appstreamcli search `)
   * Run `appstreamcli status` and see if we still have information on the same
amount of components as prior to the update.

  [Regression Potential]

   * Medium; The works case would be KDE Discover and GNOME Software
loosing information on available software, but this risk is very low
and the patch to fix this bug is very simple and has almost no
regression potential. The YAML parser fix patch is a bit more complex,
  but should have no sideeffects.

  [Original report]

Periodically I get emails from a machine with the subject:

  Cron if [ -x /etc/munin/plugins/apt_all ]; then
  /etc/munin/plugins/apt_all update 7200 12 >/dev/null; elif [ -x
  /etc/munin/plugins/apt ]; then /etc/munin/plugins/apt update 7200 12
  >/dev/null; fi

  And a body of:

AppStream cache update completed, but some metadata was ignored due to
  errors.

I have a machine monitored by Munin. One of the plugins used on that
machine is /etc/munin/plugins/apt which periodically counts the number
of packets that can be upgraded. This is achieved by a crontab entry
installed from the package which looks like this:

  #
  # cron-jobs for munin-node
  #

  MAILTO=root

  # If the APT plugin is enabled, update packages databases approx. once
  # an hour (12 invokations an hour, 1 in 12 chance that the update will
  # happen), but ensure that there will never be more than two hour (7200
  # seconds) interval between updates..
  */5 * * * * root if [ -x /etc/munin/plugins/apt_all ]; then
/etc/munin/plugins/apt_all update 7200 12 >/dev/null; elif [ -x
/etc/munin/plugins/apt ]; then /etc/munin/plugins/apt update 7200 12
>/dev/null; fi

For many months everything has been running smoothly. On the 23rd
November 2016 I started getting the "AppStream cache update completed,
but some metadata was ignored due to errors." messages at a rate of
  about ten a day.

I did a quick Google search which turned up a handful of bugs from earlier
this year, such as
Bug1575248. That is marked as Fixed Released though, so I am raising this
new bug.

If there are any further diagnostic details I can provide, please let
  me know.

Re: UDD status & Ubuntu Packaging Guide

2016-11-21 Thread Daniel Holbach
Hello Ross,

thanks a lot for bringing this up.

I think there are more and more people moving to git for Ubuntu
development. It'd be good if experts on this could help a bit with the
discussion.

Maybe somebody who participated in the discussion about using git and
Launchpad at UOS could comment on this? There is
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuDevelopment/Merging/GitWorkflow which has
been updated quite often in the last time.

Have a great day,
 Daniel

Title:
  Compability issue with adobe-flashplugin

Status in freshplayerplugin package in Ubuntu:
  In Progress
Status in freshplayerplugin source package in Xenial:
  Confirmed
Status in freshplayerplugin source package in Yakkety:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  [Impact]

Since google no longer bundles its pepperflash plugin with chrome's
debs (bug #1632870) the recommended way to get the plugin is by
installing adobe-flashplugin from the partner repository. However,
since it also includes the outdated NPAPI-plugin this will result in
two flash-plugins being installed to Firefox' plugin directory, due to
the fact that browser-plugin-freshplayer-pepperflash and adobe-
flashplugin doesn't use the same alternative link, which they should.

In /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins there's currently two links:
  flash-mozilla.so -> /etc/alternatives/flash-mozilla.so (installed by
browser-plugin-freshplayer-pepperflash)
  flashplugin-alternative.so -> /etc/alternatives/mozilla-flashplugin
(installed by adobe-flashplugin)

  browser-plugin-freshplayer-pepperflash should use the same
alternatives-link as the official package but with an higher priority,
which would eliminate the compability issue.

Also the recommend of pepperflashplugin-nonfree should be removed and
  solely recommend adobe-flashplugin instead.

Proposed changes to achieve this are available in this PPA:

  https://launchpad.net/~gunnarhj/+archive/ubuntu/freshplayerplugin

  [Test Case]

  1. Install adobe-flashplugin from Canonical Partner.
  2. Install the current version of
 browser-plugin-freshplayer-pepperflash.
  3. Restart Firefox and find that two version of "Shockwave Flash" are
 shown under Tools -> Add-ons -> Plugins.
  4. Install the proposed browser-plugin-freshplayer-pepperflash.
  5. Restart Firefox and find only adobe-flashplugin's PPAPI plugin under
 Plugins.

  [Regression Potential]

Low. This proposal is a natural step for Ubuntu to deal with the
pepperflashplugin-nonfree breakage caused by Google. As an extra
bonus, since adobe-flashplugin actually installs the PPAPI plugin and
not just downloads it from an external source at install, users will
have the (almost) latest plugin version installed through the package
  updates.

[Bug 1594596] Re: [needs packaging] arc-firefox-theme

This looks good. Just one more small thing:

W: arc-firefox-theme source: non-native-package-with-native-version
N:
N:This package has a native version number (a version number without a
N:dash and a Debian portion) but is built as a non-native package. Usually
N:this is an error caused by forgetting the Debian revision for a
N:non-native package. In this case the solution is to add a Debian
N:revision.
N:
N:This error can also happen if the package is a 1.0 source format and
N:there is a stray *.orig.tar.gz file in the parent directory. The file
N:will trick dpkg-source into believing it was supposed to be a non-native
N:package. Here the error can be solved by converting it to 3.0 (native)
N:package or removing/renaming the *.orig.tar.gz file.
N:
N:If you do not know what a "native" or a "non-native" package is, you are
N:very likely working on a non-native package.
N:
N:Severity: normal, Certainty: certain

Should this be 49.20160920-0ubuntu1 instead?

[Bug 1633725] Re: Mnemosyne fails to start in Yakkety due to missing PyQt4-WebKit

It looks like the patch is not ready yet, right? Also can you generate

Can somebody look into packaging 2.4 beta1 as suggested above? That
might be easier than redoing the port.

Until a decision has been reached here, I'll unsubscribe the 'ubuntu-

Patch pilot report: 2016-10-04

2016-10-04 Thread Daniel Holbach
Hello everybody,

here's what I got through in my shift today. Mostly cleanup, but a few
useful fixes as well:

syncpackage -s jbicha -b 1630088 c2esp
syncpackage -s anders-kaseorg -b 162 uim
 - synced.

pad.lv/1628247: yakkety 1.8.2+nmu1ubuntu1 does not install due to
changed chromekeys
 - The bug suggests a sync from Debian. I asked to confirm if the
Ubuntu changes can really be dropped.

pad.lv/1400460: slingshot won't lauch (unable to read font filename)
 - Patch seems to address problem, uploaded it and asked to follow up
on the Debian bug with the patch too.

pad.lv/1624633: please merge tcpdump from debian
 - Indicate on the bug that it's for yakkety+1.

pad.lv/1624369: Please sync mozc 2.18.2595.102+dfsg-1 (main) from
Debian unstable (main)
pad.lv/1578193: cannot load legacy-only plugin
 - Followed up and asked to clarify if this is yakkety
   material.

pad.lv/1624394: mimedefang: md-mx-ctrl reread does not work
 - Uploaded to yakkety, opened xenial task and asked for the patch to
   be upstreamed.

pad.lv/1622128: new version of budgie-wallpapers package for
yakkety
 - Subscribed release team to get sign-off.

pad.lv/1620037: Sync gnustep-gui 0.25.0-4 (universe) from Debian
unstable (main)
 - As this would require a rebuild of a number of packages, I asked
for somebody to coordinate this transition.

pad.lv/1617505: gcin didnt work in gnome-terminal after updating
ubuntu
 - Asked if the patch can be upstreamed.

lp:~chrisccoulson/unity-settings-daemon/lp1542699
lp:~laney/unity-settings-daemon/lp1554878
 - Pinged the Desktop team to see if we need them in
   yakkety.

pad.lv/1619100: FTBFS on ppc64el: termios problems
 - Already fixed. The bug was not closed automatically on upload.

Have a great day,
 Daniel

[Bug 1628247] Re: yakkety 1.8.2+nmu1ubuntu1 does not install due to changed chrome keys

2016-10-04 Thread Daniel Holbach
It looks like syncing from Debian would remove the following changes:

-- Add support for Ubuntu’s location of Chromium settings.
-- Suggest chromium-browser instead of chromium.
-- Do not suggest hal.

Can you (or somebody) take a look at confirming if they are still
required and if yes, prepare a merge of syncing and dropping these
changes?

Ubuntu Online Summit: 15-16 November 2016

2016-09-22 Thread Daniel Holbach
Hello everybody,

the next Ubuntu Online Summit is going to happen

  15-16 November 2016

At the event we are going to celebrate the 16.10 release and all the
great things which are new and get to talk about what's coming up in
Ubuntu 17.04.

The event will be added to summit.ubuntu.com shortly and you will all
receive a reminder or two to add your sessions. :-)

We're looking forward to seeing you there.

Proposed UOS date: 15-17 Nov 2016

2016-09-14 Thread Daniel Holbach
Hello everybody,

we had a long look at the calendar and it looks like 15-17 Nov would be
a good time for the next Ubuntu Online Summit. We realise it's a bit
late (4 weeks after 16.10 release), but there's a number of sprints
before which would keep quite a few people away from the event.

Does anyone have any other objections to the date for the event? If not,
I'd suggest to start UOS planning if there's no complaints about the
date in a week. :-)

Have a great day,
 Daniel

budgie-welcome source: source-is-missing data/js/bootstrap.min.js
budgie-welcome source: source-is-missing data/js/tether.js line length is 566

Both are real issues. Why hide them?

[Bug 1480315] Re: [needs-packaging] CloudKitty

2016-09-09 Thread Daniel Holbach
http://paste.ubuntu.com/23153645/ are some minor issues with cloudkitty.

For python-cloudkittyclient I get:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 pbuilder-satisfydepends-dummy : Depends: python-oslo-i18n which is a virtual
package and is not provided by any available package

Apart from that, things look good to me. Subscribing ubuntu-release team.

Why do you use debian/source.lintian-overrides? I'd just list things in
there which actually are false positives from lintian.

from Debian.
