The problem seems to be solved in a newer version of OOo. As pedersen as the
original reporter
has his difficulties to close it, I will close it for him ... ;)
@pedersen: If this problem occurs in a newer version of OOo, feel free to
reopen it again ... ;)

As hwtan mentioned, this issue seems to be fixed in a later OOo build. Because
he seems not to
be able to close this issue, I close it for him. If this problem occurs in a
later version of OOo again,
you could reopen this issue ... ;)

I have seen that the last entry was in November and that this issue is
OOo-1.1.2 related ... Have
you tried this with a newer version of OOo like 1.1.4 or some 1.9.xxx builds?
Does your problem
occur there also? Or could this issue be closed? I mean, nearly 7 months is a
long enough delay,
so see this as a reminder, please ... ;)

Thanks for the crash logs. OK, this looks like a crash related to LOCALE
settings
[macxp_getOSXLocale() in "sal/systools/macxp_extras/x11osx/osxlocale.c"].
Various problems have
occurred with LOCALE settings - you might want to search the online support
forums for NeoOffice/J
and OOo to see if someone else has seen your particular problem.

Since this problem appears to be Mac OS X specific, I am changing the component
to "porting".

I'm not the expert in this area, but it appears from your crash log, that you
are located in Europe.

Is English the preferred System language for Mac OS X and NeoOffice/J on your
machine? Perhaps you
could try resetting the preferred System Language to US English in the System
Preferences application,
and try the installation again.

Also could you try entering the following command into a Terminal window, and
paste the results here :

 defaults read -g AppleLanguages

I noticed the list is different between Mac OS X 10.3.x (Panther) and Mac OS X
10.4.x (Tiger).

Also could you try entering the following command into a Terminal window, and
paste the results here :

 export

Embedding (only displaying) would be just fine with me. Editing can wait for
later. I guess most users would also only need displaying and resizing the
image. The same is true for KDE/GNOME desktops where I also only need to display
the SVG picture (for icons and backgrounds) and not edit it. Editing is more for
the artisitc types of people. So if it is possible to include only rendering
into OOo (like there is one in the latest nighlies of Firefox browser) that
would be great.

Hello Rainer,

Your file works fine, which made me reexamine the problem. I tried my defective
files in the following milestones/builds:
645m52 (build 8824) for linux/x86 on 32 bit SuSE 9.2 -> no problems
680m100 (build 8908) for linux/x86 on 32 bit SuSE 9.2 -> no problems
645 (SuSE build 8794) for linux/x86 on 32 bit SuSE 9.2 -> problem as described
645 (SuSE build 8687) for linux/x86 on 32 bit SuSE 9.0 -> no problems
645m35 (build 8762) for linux/x86 on Knoppix 3.4 -> no problems
645m44 (build 8784) for linux/x86 on Knoppix 3.6 -> no problems
645m52 (build 8824) for linux/x86 on Knoppix 3.8.2 -> no problems

The problem seems to be confined to OOo 1.1.3 as supplied in SuSE 9.2, and only
in files that have sheets inserted. This version is heavily modified by SuSE to
use native dialogs. It looks like a bug crept in...

An unmodified version of 1.1.3 that I downloaded from belnet.be works fine as
well. Looks like I should report this bug to SuSE instead of you!

Thank you for your swift response,

regards,

Stephan van den Akker

IMHO "automatic" should be the default for all kind of
charts.
Anyway the error message should reflect the problem.
The current error message is wrong!

This may be true, I have long since uninstalled this version. However, this is
not the problem I was reporting. The problem I was speaking of was that I could
not pull the highlighting back if I went to the top of the table, not across a
table. It is not that it would not go over a border it is just that it seemed
to be getting "stuck" at the top.

Yes, "Use automatic font color for screen display" was the culprit. Thanks.
Sorry for my bad query. Will try harder to locate issues before shooting
next time..

A question remains: why is this "strange" behavior default, and can I get rid
of it system wide?

Depending on your answer (if any), I may enter a wishlist entry for changing
this IMO wrong default..

Since it's obviously not a bug, but a design decision, I wanted to set the
state of it to INVALID, but didn't found any way to do so :-(.

Testing SuSE project build of 1.9.104 revealed a strange behavior:
while setting the color of some text isn't displayed, it's saved/remembered
correctly..

Just mark some text, set text color to something different than black, and see
(hopefully reproducible)..

OK. That turns around the problem, but is not obvious to use
unless you document it!
Besides, what if you export a file with "," as decimal point
and an english user needs to open it?
It would be nicer if you could add an additional field
to choose the decimal point ("." - default, ",", other ___).

Depending on how difficult it is to implement, may be you
want to change priority to p5.

This is *not* a duplicate of issue 2497.

Embedding (this issue) instead of importing (issue 2497) SVG vector graphics is
better (as described in my lengthy post to issue 2497) and far more simple.
Embedded SVG should be displayable in all OOoffice applications (like bitmap
graphics), but it should not be editable. Nevertheless, there is a benefit of
SVG over bitmaps, since they are resolution independent and can be rendered to
each device without aliasing effects.

Due to limitations in the OOdraw format, the only way of "importing" SVG
correctly, is to take a full-featured SVG rendering engine and render into
OOdraw primitives instead of those of the graphics card. Of cause, this is not
what people expect from SVG import, since all structure other than grouping,
which was present in SVG, is completely removed. The effect is that for
non-trivial SVG images, the results obtained from importing into native OOdraw
must be almost unusable for anything other than displaying.

But then it's better to provide a way of perfectly displaying arbitrary embedded
SVG graphics by including a third-party SVG rendering engine into OOoffice. This
prevents people from destroying their SVG images by "importing" them into
OOoffice.

The previous patch lets configure error out if a libcp.lib is found in the
$PSDK_HOME/lib/ directory.

The old 2003 PSDK didn't contain that library so this is not a problem
until MS releases the next PSDK that suddenly requires this dll.

I committed the pach to CSW vq16.

I'm not 100% sure that this is the right thing to do but with that dll removed
I can build OOo to the end.

vq->ause: Can you verify that this is a valid solution for this problem, or
assign to one of your MS compiler gurus to have a look at it?

Once this issue gets integrated I will update our build instructions on how
to build OOo with the current Platform SDK.

I'm working on this (only from time to time - so do not expect miracles).
Unfortunately, I think it's not possible to write a clean-room implementation of
the svg2oodraw transformation. One reason for this is that the Open Document
format is specified with far less rigor than SVG. Is there somebody out there
who is willing to discuss issues in the Open Document format that affects the
import from SVG? I mean someone, who has either written the spec or at least
slept with it under his pillow? (Hoping for excuse from non-matching literally
translated German metaphors :-)

Because of the complexity of both formats, I also think it's not an option to
simply start with an "almost" working but arbitrary complex XSL(T) and keep
fixing until people get tired filing bug reports. A far better approach would be
to first specify how features of SVG could be expressed (or at least simulated)
in Open Document format.

To be more concrete, here are some issues with Open Document format. I think
these will prevent OpenOffice from ever being a SVG editor, since structural
information which was present in SVG is lost during import and cannot be
reconstructed upon export.

1) There is no equivalence for svg:symbol/svg:use. (Is this true?) This means
that all references to graphical shape definitions must be expanded during
import in OOoffice. From an SVG editor's perspective it's like an editor for C
programs would first expand all macro definitions. You guess, how useful such
editor would be?

2) Coordinate system transformations (the draw:transform attribute) do not nest.
(Don't they?) The OOspec seems to disallow draw:g elements carrying a
draw:transform attribute. At least, I couldn't prove they do by Ctrl-f-ing
though the spec. (Is there a version of the spec that has cross-referencing in
the defined Schema names?) Therefore, the OOdraw coordinate system is flat. Only
some basic shapes (exactly draw:page-thumbnail, draw:custom-shape,
office:annotation, draw:rect, draw:line, draw:polyline, draw:polygon,
draw:regular-polygon, draw:path, draw:circle, draw:ellipse, draw:connector,
draw:caption, draw:measure, draw:control) might have a transformation attribute,
which only controls the transformation of the shapes own points. In short, the
problem is the same as with the symbols above. Nested transformations in a SVG
image must be flattened blowing up the file with transformation attributes and
removing structure.

3) SVG graphics may be CSS-styled, while OOdraw graphics have their own styling
mechanism. The problem of transforming structure-sensitive CSSs into a useful
small amount of concrete sensible-named OOdraw styles looks like a challenge.

4) OOdraw does nothing know about clipping. (Doesn't it?) This deficiency can be
observed in OOdraw itself. An usual workaround is to draw "white" (or whatever
the background is) shapes above the parts of the image one wants to clip away.
But this workaround is not applicable to an automatic transformation, since this
transformation would have to know the size of the clipped part, and it must make
sure not to over-paint some other unrelated parts of the drawing.

5) Markers. While SVG allows the definition of arbitrary complex marker elements
for line endings, OOdraw restricts markers to simple paths. The question here
again is what to do with SVG markers. They cannot be converted to OOdraw
markers, but they also cannot be inlined, because of the missing clipping
feature.

I think there are more issues - I started writing this with two in mind and
found more each time looking more deeply into both specs. Without doubt, there
is a bi-simulation between SVG and OOdraw, but there is nothing close to a
conversion / bijection.

In my opinion, the only way to do the SVG "import" correctly, is to take a
full-featured SVG rendering engine and render into OOdraw primitives instead of
those of the graphics card. Of cause, this is not what people expect from SVG
import, since all structure other than grouping, which was present in SVG, is
completely removed.

The attached filter svg2draw almost goes the direction of partially rendering
SVG into OOdraw primitives. If not impossible, writing a SVG rendering engine in
XSL(T) is at least not easy - and pretty useless. The optimal solution in my
opinion would be to include a third-party SVG rendering engine (batik?) into
OOoffice and let people include their SVG images unmodified into their graphics
and texts. This is the best solution, because for non-trivial SVG images, the
results that can be expected from a conversion of SVG into a native OOdraw
graphic must be almost unusable for anything other than displaying (e.g.
editing). Therefore, the best way of preventing people from destroying their SVG
images by "importing" them into O

With 680m104, if you insert a flash animation in a slideshow (Insert > Plugin),
the animation plays well on compose page, but when you try to play the
slideshow, the flash displays as the generic plugin yellow image.
(Fails on windows 2K & linux (debian), with mozilla & flash player installed.)

With 1.1.3 from debian unstable / testing, inserting a flash movie makes oo

With 1.1.4 on WinXP, everything works...

I'll try 1.1.4 on Win2K & Linux

When using "Bibliographic index Edit", it's possible to insert [TAB] and
bibliographic fields ==> [TI]  [T]  [Ab] ...

First, in 1.9.104m, TAB aren't managed correctly (choose a 8,00cm for the
third TAB change the first too, on page)

Second, it would be nice to insert Carriage Return [CR].

in http://david.roumanet.free.fr/Memoire_CNAM/memoire/memoire_nomadisme.odt I
would to update illustration index but this freeze the program and I had to
close it with task manager...

Action done : right-clic on index, choose 'index update' (in
frecnh 'actualiser l'index') ==> freeze without progress bar.

If I update (by the same way) the table index, it works fine.

Hi Reporter, I checked with 2.0 (1.9.m91) English version WIN XP:
[680m91(Build8895)] (wiht which I ccreated a testfile) and 1.1.4 (German) WIN
XP: [645m52(Build8824)] (With which I tried to show the hidden rows), and it was
WFM.

Pls specify your platform, OS and (detailled) version or your OOo!

Can you reproduce the Problem with the attached testfile 'from20_A.sxc' for the
hidden rows 10 ... 15? It has been created with my a.m. 2.0?

May be you should also contribute a testfile like 'from20_A.sxc'!

I tested it now on WinXP again: The function is now also OK. I don't know, if
there was a system error. I found out, that after downgrade of the title and
then upgrade again the Text of the title (that I down- and upgraded) displayed
downgraded on the slide before and as title of a new slide. Only a change of
the view (to normal) bring me to the right view (no downgraded text on the
slide before; only a title on a the new slide). I think this is a problem of
updating the memory for the display.
I test it again on my SuSE-Box: same as under WinXP.

I would always like to see everything in WebLayout first.
Funny thing is that native documents (*odt) preserve this view if they are saved
and closed in this view. However, if I choose to save as *doc, it will revert to
PrintView upon opening.
As for brand new documents: I created my own template, saved it as *ott (writer
template), defined as default - all this in WebLayout. Now all the new writer
files open in WebLayout.
To avoid *doc files opening in Print View, I created a macro and assigned it to
Events>Open document. This works for *all* text documents which, unfortunately,
means, that all *odt documents (closed in WebLayout and therefore expected to
open so again) will be reverted to PrintView, since the macro is able only to
*change* the layout whatever it is.
Request: Would it be possible to introduce an option somewhere that all text
documents and text templates (either brand new or reopened for zillionth time)
should open in WebLayout OR PrintView, depending on the user's choice and
irrespective of the format (so *odt, *doc etc. behave alike)?
Thank you.

How to reproduce:

- Create a spreadsheet in Calc 2.0
- Hide some rows or columns
- Save spreadsheet in Calc 1.1 format (.sxc)
- Open file in Calc 1.1
- Select a group af rows/columns containing the hidden rows/columns
- Right-click: No "Show"-entry in the context menu
- Format -> Row -> Show is greyed out

Side-effect (?):
- Hide some rows or columns with Calc 1.1 in the file exported from Calc 2.0
- Select a group af rows/columns containing the newly hidden rows/columns
- Right-click: No "Show"-entry in the context menu
- Format -> Row -> Show is greyed out

Versions: Calc 1.1.3 (from SuSE 9.2, fully patched as of 28 may 2005)
Calc 2.0 build 100, downloaded from OOo website for Windows 98 and on SuSE 9.2

Somehow the exported file creates problems for Calc 1.1.

Hi,

currently switching off the "record changes" function deletes all information
about changes that have been made. The user is being warned about this. To
make it possible to just switch off the recording of changes temporarily it
would be nice if that information would be kept even while "record changes" is
switched off.

Regards

Rolf

You can set this in the import diolog. Click onto the column head "Standard" in
the part "Fields". Then the drop-down list "Column type" is enabled. There you
can choose "US English" for your problem with the decimal delimiter.

I Forgot to add that this happens _only_ if the firewall blocks the openoffice
to reach the internet.

Il seems that the process of merging an image linked from the internet, locks
the whole program (wordprocessor) whitout forking another process and let the
user continue typing; as a result if no network is present the only solution is
to ctrl-alt-del and kill the program.

Another issiue ... in this issiue :-), is that the name reported by the firewall
is not the program name, but is a string like "xx".
The firewall positively finds the exe (soffice.bin) but the string that is
passed to it is something not self explaining ("x").
