Hi,

I made some macro's to assign function keys (F1, F2...) for a specific file. In
version 1.1.3 they worked fine. In the new version they don't work at all. I
will attach a sample file. When you open it, it wil try to save itself in a
subdirectory (but you can close this window). For your idear it is a
psychological test. Cliënts can fill in the form (using the function keys) en
then (by changing maps) see the results. It in Dutch dow.

I have a custom paragraph style which has the first line of each paragraph
automatically set to indent .5". My documents are all in .sxw format. When I
load a document into OpenOffice.org 2 build 1.9.125 and hit backspace while at
the beginning of a paragraph, I lose the indenting; instead, the cursor jumps
to
the left margin.

It seems to me the proper behavior would be to back the paragraph up one line
to
the previous line, making it part of the previous paragraph. This is not what
happens.

My specs are as follows:
- OO 2.0 Beta
- Dell Dimension XPS PC
- Windows XP Professional SP2
- Pentium 4 3.8 GHz Processor
- 2.0 GB DDR RAM

In attempting to replicate I did the following:
- File -> New -> Presentation
- Insert -> Spreadsheet
- Populated spreadsheet with random values
- Focus returned to calling slide

Impress did not exit.

This one is difficult to replicate considering they didn’t attach the
spreadsheet they were using. I tried inserting a new spreadsheet myself with
date & decimal data, however no unexpected behavior was encountered.

If this the issue can be replicated by other users then I would consider this
one as very important as many people rely on spreadsheets to crunch their data.

I was unable to replicate this error. The steps I followed were:
- Open a new spreadsheet document
- Maximized the window
- Right-clicked any worksheet name

The context menu appeared above my taskbar as expected.

If this issue is indeed encountered by other users then I would suspect this
being an important, considering the convenience and appeal of context
sensative menus.

I was unable to reproduce the bug without having JMF installed on my machine.
However, I did install QuickTime 6.0 and was able to play a QuickTime file
independently without issue. I would lean towards the QuickTime's plug-in
capability as being the problem, and would perhaps reinstall QuickTime.

A possible variation or related issue occurs when multiple WRITE documents are
open. When switching between documents, the screen on occassion will fail to
refresh properly. This results in the cursor appearing at the correct location
for the *newly activated* document, but with the contents of the *previously
active* document continuing to display on the screen, not the newly activated
document.

(Justin Kelley 9/10/05) - Using OO Beta 2.0 on XP SP2, I was able to replicate
and recieved several error messages. The text for the first stated access was
denied, while the next one stated the general error mentioned in the
description.

The steps I followed were:
File -> Export as PDF
Selected a PDF to overwrite in the ensuing export dialogue
Clicked 'Export' in the next dialogue

The error messages then generate.

I agree it would be nice to have a more detailed message stating that another
program is using the file. This way the user will know that another program
is currently accessing the document and that they need to close it. That
would be helpful.

Desktop - XP Pro Sp2, Pentium 4 3.20GHz, 1.00GB Ram, Radeon 9800 Pro

Although I can’t specifically confirm or deny this, (no avis over 700 megs) I
did find that if you have multiple avis on a single slide, and then start the
slideshow on a slide with no movies, the first movie that attempts to play
will lose picture after the last movie begins playing. There is still sound
from the first movie, but no picture on this one. This can be tested with
very small movie files.

1. Open Impress
2. Insert 2 movies
3. Create blank slide
4. Start slideshow from blank slide
5. Navigate to movies

When I do this, both movies play, but whichever one gets picture first,
immediately loses it after the last movie begins playing, while sound can
still be heard.

If however the blank slide contains a movie (any movie), when navigating to
the slide with multiple movies, all of them will play correctly.

I don’t know whether this is related to the above problem or not, but they
sound very similar.

I was able to reproduce this bug on my system easily with the included power

power point presentation. Moreso, when I accessed the slide transition pane
with any other presentation, then opened the attached file, the slide

(Mike Lanni, 9/10/2005)I am running OpenOffice.org 1.9.125 under Windows XP
Professional on a Pentium 4 Dell Dimension with 512 megs of ram. I can confirm
that .JPG images inserted into Writer on my system then exported as HTML are
indeed resized. The image I used for the test was an image for a flyer
(handout) I had made in Photoshop, sized 1275 x 1650 pixels. I inserted the
picture (Insert, Picture, From File) in Writer, then saved it as an HTML file
(File, Save As, HTML Document). I then opened FireFox and loaded the HTML file
I had just saved. I right clicked on the image and checked the properties. The
images’ new dimensions were 665px by 860px. This is coded in with HTML, the
image file itself was not modified. The change in image size could be very
important to web developers who count on images to line up properly on a menu or
layout, or count on their size for any other formatting reasons. The priority
on this one is minor overall since it does not cause the program to crash, and
it doesn’t even overwrite your .JPG file, but it should be taken into serious
account if anyone plans on using this software for affordable web development.

Hello, I am running a Windows box with these specs:

PC
Windows XP Professional SP2
AMD XP 2200
Radeon 9600 XT
1.0 GB DDR RAM

I attempted to reproduce this bug on OOo 2.0 Beta 2, but was unable to.
Judging by the previous comments, I assumed JMF was not the problem, and did
not try to install it on my system. The steps I performed were:

1. Create new blank presentation
2. Insert > Object > Plug-In...
3. Browse to the quicktime file referenced above

The file opened correctly in the slide preview window, sound and all. When I
tried to execute the slide show, however, all that was displayed was the plug-
in graphic, and the movie did not play.

As a follow-up test, I tried opening the same quicktime file using the Insert >
Movie and Sound command. I was treated with a error box saying "The format of
the selected file is not supported." The movie file played correctly when
executed from the desktop. I am using Quicktime version 6.5.
Hope this helps.

Pablo R. Rosado

Computer: Dell PC
OS: Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 2
OpenOffice Version: OpenOffice 2.0 Beta 2
Processor: Pentium 4 CPU 1.80 GHz
Memory: 52.6 GB, 256 RAM
Video: ATI Radeon 9600 Series

Computer: Dell PC
OS: Linux Suse 9.2
OpenOffice Version: OpenOffice 1.13
Processor: Pentium 4 CPU 1.80 GHz
Memory: 52.6 GB, 256 RAM
Video: ATI Radeon 9600 Series

I tested this in both on WinXp using Openoffice 2.0 Beta 2 and on Suse 9.2 using
an older version of OpenOffice (version 1.13). The results were the following:

When using WinXp, I created several powerpoint presentations in Microsoft
PowerPoint in the following sizes: 13.5 MB, 10.4 MB, 8.60 MB, 5.90 MB, and 2.54
MB. Each powerpoint presentation had text, jpeg pictures, and color in the
background. I had extreme difficulty in open both the 13.5 MB, 10.4 MB and even
the 8.60 MB files. They were extremely slow when importing the powerpoint
presentation, taking several minutes while slowing my computer process
significantly. When the files did open, Impress was slow to respond to my
commands when trying to navigate and switch views (sorter, outline, normal, and
slideshow). However, when viewing the slide show, there was no problem and the
program did not slow down or lag. With the 2.54 and the 5.90MB files, they acted
normal when loading and caused no errors or problems when editing or viewing
them.

When using Suse, I had almost similar responses that I had in WinXp. For the
13.5 MB, 10.4 MB, and the 8.60 MB file, they were slow to open taking the 10.4
MB file 7 mins and 36 seconds to load, the 10.4 MB 4 mins and 44 seconds, and
the 8.6 MB file 2 min and 56 seconds. Afterwards, the program was slow in
responding to my commands as it was in WinXp and the slideshow was able to be
display with no problems or lagging. However, all three files froze when trying
to close the program by selecting file in the toolbar and then close. The 5.9 MB
file took 1 min and 9 seconds to open the file, but I did not experience any
problems when navigating and editing the slides. The 5.9 MB file also had no
problem when closing the file. The 2.5 MB file acted as normal and almost
instantly open the powerpoint presentation and gave me no problems when editing,
viewing, and closing the slides.

Microsoft PowerPoint on the other hand, is capable of opening all the files with
in reasonable time and little difficulty in editing, navigating, or closing the
slides. If OpenOffice is going to compete as an alternative office software
suite, it is important that it should be able to behave similar to PowerPoint if
not better under certain conditions. The ability to respond quickly is an
important attribute of any program or service even when opening files as big as
5.9MB. For this reason, this bug should be considered important.

[graphics-issues] [Issue 53733] appear-dim with colour cu stom animations does not have any delay

2005-09-10 Thread sdecker2
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue:

--- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sat Sep 10 19:46:49 -0700

OOo 1.9.125
Laptop - XP Pro Sp2, Pentium 4 3.00GHz, 512MB Ram, ATI Mobility Radeon 9700
Desktop - XP Pro Sp2, Pentium 4 3.20GHz, 1.00GB Ram, Radeon 9800 Pro

I get the same effect, to replicate:

1. Open Impress
2. Create a text field (or any object really)
3. Create any other object (I use smiley faces)
4. Go to Custom Animations
5. Add appear effect to the text field
6. Under effect options -> After animation -> select dim with color, and then
choose any color.
7. Now add any effect to your second object
8. Enter Slideshow
9. Left click once, The text will appear, and will very quickly change to your
selected color
10. Left click again, new object will appear using whatever effect you chose.

Initially I felt this was fine as it would usually take a second or so for the
colors to change, however, currently there is a slight delay before the text
appears and it often appears already having changed to the new color. I’m
unsure what I did to introduce this slight delay, because none of the delay
options are over 0.0 seconds. This isn’t too bothersome because there is a
simple enough workaround.

Start over, and do numbers 1-5 as shown above, then:

6. Select your second object and add any effect.
7. Select your text again, and add a new effect under the Emphasis tab “Change
Font Color”
8. Under the Custom Animations area, select “with previous” under the start
selection, and choose your font color.
9. There should now be three custom animations, the first being your appear
text, the second being your object effect, and the last being the change font
color for your text.
10. Enter Slideshow

Now when you left click the second time (step 10 in the first group), both the
text color changes and the second animation play simultaneously.

If there is no slight delay in your text display, you can attempt an even
simpler workaround. This did work for me at first, but when the text began
taking a second or so to show up, I felt the above was the only surefire
solution.

Do the first 7 steps, and while adding the effect to the second object, have
it start “After previous”. The timing is slightly different than the other
solution I have, but it may work fine for you, and save you from creating an
extra animation.

This may be working as designed, though I’ll check to see if I can get rid of
that delay in my text.

Hope this helps.

Stephen Decker

I'm using OOo 2 Beta 2 in linux and would like to use the email
function i.e. have the document attached to an email in my email
 program (which is sylpheed).

I've got sylpheed set up as my email program under Tool-
Option-Internet- Email.

When I click on the email button it opens sylpheed in the compose
window but does not attach the document.

I've done some testing of various documents. Some work and others
don't. I cannot find any common factors among those which don't work
correctly.

Of the ones which do not work, all were created with another
application eg. earlier versions of OO or Pocket Word.

If I copy a document that doesn't work and paste it into another new
document in OO then it does work.

File format is not an issue as the files which do not work have been in either .
rtf or .sxw

Thanks

Keith

Computer: Dell PC
OS: Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 2
OpenOffice Version: OpenOffice 2.0 Beta 2
Processor: Pentium 4 CPU 1.80 GHz
Memory: 52.6 GB, 256 RAM
Video: ATI Radeon 9600 Series

I tested this on WinXp using Openoffice 2.0 Beta 2. The results were the
following:

When using WinXp I was able to reproduce the bug whenever I did the following:
1.) Open Openoffice Impress
2.) Click on the open file icon in the toolbar
3.) Select the transparents_solucom.ppt file
4.) Click on the Slideshow option
The first slid is extremely slow and when finish, I receive a display driver
stooped responding, the atiduag display driver has stopped working normally
message and the color on my screen becomes disorder. Afterwards, I tried editing
the slides in PowerPoint and select different slide transitions but when I view
the slideshow of the new slides in Impress, it always gives me the same error.
However, when you edit the slides transitions in Impress, I did not receive a
problem in the slide show except with the following transitions:
1.) The Undercover transitions
2.) The Cover Transitions
3.) The Push Transitions

Sometimes the display driver would crash right after I applied the new
transition to the slides and always crash in the slideshow. It also makes no
difference where the transition is at in the slides or its speed. I put a single
transition slide at the end and the middle of 20 slides and use the different
speed options (slow, medium, and fast).

Microsoft PowerPoint on the other hand, is capable of viewing the file as a
slideshow. If OpenOffice is going to compete as an alternative office software
suite, it is important that it should be able to behave similar to PowerPoint if
not better under certain conditions. And in the case of being able to insert
transitions between slides into a presentation is an important feature in a
slide show program and therefore this bug should be considered important and
attempted to be fixed as soon as possible.

I was able to reproduce the bug (or something close to it) on my configuration.

First, I created a 3 slide presentation with the titles left to their default
state. When i created the summary slide, it created a list of 3 bullets with
the titles of each of the three slides. It was the default Arial size 32 text.
I then changed the fonts on the 3 slides and created a new summary slide but
got the exact same thing: Arial size 32 font.

Next, i created a 14 slide presentation. I used several different fonts and
sizes in the titles. I also had several titles that were 2 lines. This caused
the problem.

When i created the summary slide, it made a new slide at the end of the
presentation. It was a bulleted list, left justified, Arial size 32 font. The
list did not retain the text format of the actual titles, and it also ran off
the bottom of the slide.

If anyone wants a summary slide but has more tha 9 slides, it will run off the
bottom of the page. Granted, they can change it manually, but as it is now it
presents a user inconvenience.

I tested this in both on WinXp using Openoffice 2.0 Beta 2 and on Suse 9.2 using
an older version of OpenOffice (version 1.13). The results were the following:

When using Suse, I exported the file (UtilityAndStorge.sxi) using the following
method:

1.) Clicking on File menu in the toolbar
2.) Clicking on the Export as PDF option
3.) And choosing one of the three the optimized methods (screen optimized,
print
optimized, and press optimized).

After using each optimize method and clicking on the new PDF file, I would be
able to view the PDF file but I would receive a “an unrecognized token ‘325./4m’
was found error message or a error processing, too few operands in path
message.

When using WinXp I exported the file with the same method used in Suse but was
able to select various PDF settings. I had no problems in viewing the PDF file
under the following conditions.
1.) Using the default settings
2.) Selecting and using the default lossless compression settings
3.) Using the JPEG compression at 100%, and 20%
4.) Using the default JPEG compression and changing the resolution to 1200,
75,
and 300
This bug could possible be just an error that only affects the MAC OS and seems
to only be cause by compression method used and therefore should not be
considered a major bug.

I was not able to reproduce the crash, but i did run into some problems with
the sound/display of the text.

First, I tested the presentation in Microsoft Powerpoint (part of Office XP)
and it worked fine with no lagging sound or display issues.

Then, I opened the slide show in Impress and ran it without changes. It did
not crash or freeze, but the text display and sound was very laggy. The timing
was way off.

I changed the speed that the text came in at but still had lag issues even
when I delayed nearly a full second between each character. However, despite
the lagging sound/text i could not reproduce a crash.

One more thing, if you attempt to view the slideshow in windowed mode, the
offset of the form controls is much more pronounced. Several of them
disapeered entirely off the screen for me.

I tested this in both on WinXp using Openoffice 2.0 Beta 2 and on Suse 9.2 using
an older version of OpenOffice (version 1.13) using the original attach file
(http://impactcomputing.com/Misc/Presentation/UrgentBulletin.pps). The results
were the following:

When using WinXp and Suse I was able to open and view the presentation through
the slideshow option by using the following method:

1.) Open OpenOffice Impress
2.) Click the open file icon and selecting the file
3.) Click on the slideshow option.

Afterwards, I inserted more sound files including several wave files with file
sizes 7kb 533 kb, 48.8 MB, 82 kb, 5.04 MB, and 2.55 MB throughout the slideshow
and several MIDI files as well into the presentation in both WinXp and Suse. I
this situation, I was able to view the slideshow with no problem. This seems to
be a driver configuration problem (either video or sound) on the personal
computer which so far has not been reproduced and therefore I don’t believe this
to be a major issue.

All of the form controls appear to be bugged when viewing in a slideshow
presentation.
To replicate:
1. Open Impress, Create a new presentation
2. To use form controls go to View -> Toolbars -> Form Controls
3. Create a push button in the upper left hand corner of the slide. (this can
be done anywhere but the problem is most easily shown in the upper left hand
corner)
4. Enter slideshow (Press f5)
5. Label is missing, and bug cannot be clicked.
6. Exit slideshow
7. Toggle Design mode off (right next to select in the form control toolbar)
8. Enter slideshow again.

On both of my machines, the button is now displayed and clickable but it is
partly outside the boundaries of the slideshow, at the very top left of my
screen. Oddly enough, the same button that we viewed in step 5 when Design
mode is turned on is still there, in the correct position and behind the new,
offset, clickable button.

This occurs with every form control. In addition, the following controls
display the actual working area behind them in addition to themselves: Labels,
Option buttons, Check boxes, Group Box, Image Button.

You can repeat the above steps with any form control, and get the same offset
placement, and the same missing label/not usable version of it in the correct
position, but underneath the new controls.

I also replicated the second bug, where the controls will follow you to the
next slides.
Continuing from the above:
9. Create a new slide below the current slide.
10. Make sure Design mode is off (will not work when on for me)
11. Enter slideshow
12. Go to next slide

All of the controls from the previous slide carry over to the new one. This
works both forwards and backwards. If there are two or more slides with
control forms, only the slide that you start the presentation on has the carry
over effect, and the forms on the other slides are not usable. You can in fact
still enter data in the carried over forms that will remain persistent after
the slideshow ends.

When testing this I found that regardless of whether design mode was on or
off, if you start the slideshow in a slide with no form controls, any
additional slides with form controls will be unusable and will appear as if
design mode was on.

I tested this in both on WinXp using Openoffice 2.0 Beta 2 and on Suse 9.2
using an older version of OpenOffice (version 1.13). The results were the
following:

When using WinXp I was able to insert several sound and video files (MP3, Wave,
AU, OGG, Windows Media Audio/Video, MIDI, AVI, MPEG, and Real Audio/Video files.
Each one varying in file size), including the attach file on this bug report
(http://free-lectrons.com/pub/audio/torvalds-says-linux.wav) with no errors by
the following methods:

First Method:
1.) Open OpenOffice Impress and select Insert from the tool bar.
2.) Chose the sound file (http://free-
electrons.com/pub/audio/torvalds-says-linux.wav)

Second Method:
1.) Open OpenOffice Impress.
2.) Drag and Drop the file into Impress

However I received a format of file in not supported error message when
inserting the OGG file and an Insert Text window when I tried to drag and drop
the OGG file and Real Audio/Video. Other problems included difficulty in playing
large MP3 files (10.3 MB) during the slide show.

When using Linux, I repeated the two methods for inserting the sound/video
files. Using both methods, I was only able to insert wave files only. I received
an Insert Text window when trying to insert all the other audio and video files.
It appears that this is an error that only appears in Linux and has not been
fixed in the last OpenOffice release.

Microsoft PowerPoint on the other hand, is capable of inserting all the sound
and video files that I tested on OppenOffice with the exception of Real
Audio/Video. If OpenOffice is going to compete as an alternative office software

be fixed as soon as possible.

We were able to reproduce the bug. We first went to the saved file and used
"Open With" and opened it using OO. The table was unreadable. We then tried
moving the table and it resized. Now it was pefectly readable. From there on
we ran into a different problem. These are the steps we did:

- We opened file with "Open With" and used OO.
- We moved the table to resize it.
- Double click the table to have it open in Microsoft Word.
- Return to Impress, now the object is just a picture of an Object Icon.
- The object was now only viewable thru MS Word.
- We then clicked the "Save" icon on the toolbar.
- We got an error message stating there was an error in formating. We proceeded
with the save
- The table reappered on the impress slide.
- Close Impress.
- Open the same file again.
- The table is no longer on the file.

The table would be replaced with an Object Icon picture everytime we clicked it
except when we clicked the "Save" icon before doubleclicking on the table. We
then tryed with using the "Save" icon after we double-clicked on the table and
it would also reappear. If we saved before doubleclicking, the table would
appear in the file once we reopened it. If we didn't do this we would get the
error and then not have the table in the document. Also if you clicked the
"Save" button at any point, before or after, and then access the table. The
table would not change to the Object Icon even after accessing it.

We tryed all of this by opening the file from an empty slide of Impress and all
the steps were reproducible.

We were unable to reproduce the bug on either of these systems. This might be
because we were using Windows instead of Linux. We loaded the attached document
and were able to view the slides.

We were unable to reproduce the bug on either of the two systems. The slides
loaded and OO did not crash on us. We agree with rjohnsto's comment on the
slide speed. This might be to the sheer size of the file though.

We were unable to reproduce the bug. We tried using the short-cut on an empty
slide and a set of slides. The navigator appeared, when we used the shortcut
keys, on both of the slides.

We were able to reproduce the bug. We tested with a a slideshow of moderate
size, about 10-20 slides. When we used the "Summary Slide" under the Insert
heading it created the summary slide. We then proceeded to view the slide. The
summary slide contained a list of the titles of the preceeding slides. The list
was bulleted and left margin justified. The list ran off the slide. It went so
far down that we had to move the text box up to be able to see the end of the
list. The list also retains the formatting of the titles from their original
slides. This makes the list even bigger. We assumed that the slide summary
should resize them so they would fit in the slide.

Hi!
I have tried "Format/character/hidden text". In MsWord, the text marked as
hidden can include a hard jump to next page and empty paragraph. In OO.org all
the text is hidden but the hard jump to the next page still appear and also the
empty paragraphs. The result is that we cannot hide a few pages of text either
with hard jump to next page because we ended up with empty pages. In OO.org, we
will see also the empty paragraphs.

(I am using the version in Suse Linux build 1.9.79.2.3) in french.)

We were able to reproduce the bug with the add-on submitted by bmarcelly. We
then ran the slideshow and a box was displayed on screen along with the current
slide. We had some trouble finding the add-on toolbar until we closed the
current Impress project. We then proceeded to check if it still ocurred when
the toolbar was docked. We docked the toolbar and then went to the slideshow.
The toolbar remained on screen with the slides, but now it was a bar running
along the top of the screen.

We were unable to reproduce this bug. As stated in some of the comments it
could be because the Videocards of the systems we used were GeForce's and not of
the ATI line. The slideshow worked great in both systems and didn't slow down a
bit.

We weren't able to reproduce the bug on either of the systems. We did notice
that it took slightly longer for it to redisplay the information on screen once.
It was barely perceptible, this could be because our systems were relatively
fast.

I also was not able to reproduce the bug. I created several slides with
different text in each title and then produced the summary slide. The summary
slide had each title fro all the previous slides each on its own line as a
separate item in a bulleted list.

Update: I did try and close the document after performing all those

I did not have a problem with this. I created new bullets and added text and
then proceeded in tabbing to the right, so as to make the tabbed bullet a
further subsection of the main bulleted item. It seems that describing this
process is a little difficult. When I performed the operation the bullet
icons did get smaller as well as the text.

OpenOffice seems to not have a concept of hanging indent; rather, first line
indent is negative.

For example, to hang at 1cm, set indent to 1cm, and first line indent to -1cm.
This is brain damage. Fix this UI crap in format->paragraph; I don't care how
the backend does it, show it to me in a smart way.

Look at how Abiword does their indenting interface, or even MS Word. This is
better; it separates the concepts of first line and hanging indents, instead of
making the user come up with hacks on indent/first line add and subtract junk.

Also see #172 and #12565 for related issues. This is most closely a duplicate
of #12565, although I'm attacking the root of the problem (the UI for moving
things around) directly rather than complaining about the effects. There may be
other changes needed to satisfy #12565, like changing the sliders on the ruler
to a triangle-triangle-tab setup like in Word/AbiWord

OpenOffice.org works as expected and is responsive. Maybe it's been fixed since

Acrobat Reader has a good navigation function: one can navigate through the
views on the document. In a large text document that might be quite useful. e.g.
you edit a piece of the text. you leave it by searching for some text fragment
for copying it. It would be nice to return to view 1 by one click.

jsc: Should issues regarding StarOffice Programmer's Guide live in OOo IZ or is
there a more appropriate
place for them?
There are some 1-2 other issues concerning the SO Programmer's Guide here, what
do you think about
creating a task issue named "SO Programmer's Guide"?

All of my drivers are updated and I was unable to replicate the bug with my
configuration. I opened the file with impress and it imported it just fine.
I continued by running a slide show and shifting through the slides. I
noticed a spike of 30% cpu usage everytime I transitioned through slides on
avg, but the transition time was not very slow, maybe 2 or 3 seconds. I
continued to check whether the program would crash when exitting the slideshow
and I did not experience any problems. I also ran the document in powerpoint
with no problems.

When I try to open a word processor file that was created in Microsoft Works 7.0
I receive a popup error stating:

General Error.
General input/output error.

After clicking 'OK' nothing loads into OpenOffice and the document window
remains blank. This happens with every file of this type (.wps) on my computer.
It happens when I try to open a .wps file from within OpenOffice, and it happens
when I right-click on the file in Windows Explorer and click "open with" and
select OpenOffice.

I was not able to replicate the freezing on my computer. Here are the specs I
have:

OpenOffice 1.9.125
Windows XP Home SP2
512 MB RAM
AMD Athlon XP 3000 Processor
NVIDIA GeForce4 MX graphics card
NVIDIA nForce Audio

However, the text did lag behind the sound and was jumpy when it did catch up.
I tried it in Powerpoint 2003, and the presentation ran perfectly, without lags,
jumps, or freezing.

I was able to reproduce this bug. I am running OpenOffice 1.9.125 on a Windows
XP Home SP2 machine. I will add a presentation that shows this shortly. While
creating this document, OpenOffice crashed several times. I had to proceed very
carefully to save this correctly. The last time that it crashed (the time I
have the most information about), I had only added a text box. I saved, and the
program crashed on me. I am not sure whether or not this is related to the
animation problem. The only time Impress has crashed on me today (and I have
been testing several bugs in Impress today) was when I tested this animation
issue. I hope this little bit of information helps you track down this bug.

I moved the .pdf to a new Impress presentation where it also worked properly.

I inserted a new .pdf into the hang.odp presentation and was able to open it
without problems.

I inserted a different .pdf into a new Impress presentation where it also

Hi grsingleton

Nice idea, but this is just a workaround for a one or two page document. Using a
text frame for the continuous text is not a good idea. Just try following two
things with your document to see the problem:
- Fill the inner text frame until the page is full. Add more text. You frame
does expand. But the user expects is, that (as usual) a new page starts.
- Try to insert a manual page break. Guess you cannot - it's disabled.

So, for continuous text over multiple pages you solution doesn't work. Sorry.
Maybe you find a better one...

At apparently random intervals, Impress segmentation faults when switching
between slides while in editing mode. This is using an *.odp file (though the
presentation in question was initially a PowerPoint document). The error when
run at the command line reads:
/usr/lib/openoffice.org2.0/program/soffice: line 164: 1249 Segmentation fault
"$sd_prog/$sd_binary" "$@"

Steps to reproduce:
1) Open presentation.
2) Do some editing.
3) Choose a different slide in the left-hand pane.

Expected result:
Switch to that slide.

Actual result:
Crash with following at CLI:
/usr/lib/openoffice.org2.0/program/soffice: line 164: 1249 Segmentation fault
"$sd_prog/$sd_binary" "$@"

I tested this file and did not encounter a problem with displaying the border
in slide 10, but I did encounter two seperate problems with the slide
transistion:

1. Slow slide transistions in Impress which is related to issue 49674 (Impress
never crashed but the slide transitions are very slow, about 3-5 times slower
then Power Point)

2. Presentation not performing any slide transistions in Impress. I will be
entering a new more detailed bug report for this.

I also tested attachment "test_with_only_border.doc" and was able to open the
document in Microsoft Word and OOo Writer with no encountered problems.

I was not able to reproduce this bug on Windows XP. I am running 1.9.125 on a
Windows XP Home SP2 computer with an Nvidia GeForce 4 Mx Graphics Card. I will
shortly attach an example of what I did.

The first few slides I tried (with Basic Latin letters, some extended Latin
letters and Greek characters showed fine on the summary slide. The only problem
I found was that the Arabic letters on my last slide did not reproduce exactly
the same on the summary slide. I do not even pretend to know Arabic, so I'm not
sure if the difference amounts to a serious problem.

I was not able to reproduce the defect on my configuration.
I tested several different MPEG and .avi videos and the scrollbar worked
instantly.

I tested both when the video was paused and when it was still playing and it
updated instantly in both cases.

I was not able to reproduce this bug. I opened Impress to a blank
presentation, and using Ctrl+Shift+F5 launched the navigator properly. I also
tested with three presentations open with 3 slides in each. Everything appears
to be working as intended. Shift+F5 doesn't open the navigator however.

You might want to make sure that your F-keys are working properly. Some
keyboard's F-keys are not enabled until after the drivers are installed.

Then again, it might be a bug in the German version if that is what you are
using. I tested it with the English version.

1. open Tools|Options
2. go to Language Settings|Languages
3. in "Default languages for documents", there is a combo box
labeled "CTL". Select "Hebrew".

4. close the Options dialog
5. Now locate the Formatting toolbar.
6. Click the small triangle at the bottom-right corner of the

I was able to reproduce the bug exactly as described. My system has the
following specs:

Windows XP Home SP2
512 MB RAM
AMD Athlon XP 3000 Processor
Nvidia GeForce4 MX Graphics Card

I also did some follow up testing with this bug, and noted that the callouts
duplicate themselves even when the original one is not moved. I followed the
steps several times, and saw the following problems:

After 9 save-close-reopen cycles, the spreadsheet took over 18 seconds to load.
On the 10th cycle, it took over a minute and reached a size of 20 KB. After
only the 11th cycle, it took over 4 minutes to load, and was 32 KB in size. I
created a new spreadsheet file with only numbers in it that was 39 KB, and it
loaded in no time. I fear that it would be easy for users to miss that callouts
are being duplicated every time they save, rapidly increasing loading time and
file size. Therefore, I believe that this issue should be upgraded to at least
P4 status, and perhaps P3.

Wow, I did not realize until today that it has been 3 years since I reported
this. It is quite surprising to me that this has still not been implemented
into the OpenOffice suite, which is one of the main reasons why I still use
Microsoft Office as my main office software program.

This is quite a big let down considering OpenOffice is much easier to use than
MSOffice, in my opinion at least, and could be a competitor in the world market
if more functionality of this sort was implemented.

It is a shame that I am no longer recommending OpenOffice to my fellow
classmates at my college because of this one issue, but it severly limits my,
and their, ability to complete scientific analyses of the data we have gathered.

Maybe this will be fully implemented before another 3 years have passed?

I'd like to say how many people may be affected by this feature: my mother is a
translator. She usually works with the original document and the translated one
on split windows and cannot work in OpenOffice because there is no way she can
see the original document while editing the translation. ALL translators I know
love this split screen thing so they don't need to stop editing some document to
look at the original. I think this should be included in Open Office 2.0 Final.

Description of problem:
I have a Calc file that works as Data Base, when certain columns are hidden and
I use autofilter to select only certain rows, Calc gets very very slow, when
scrolling with cursor arrows and also when trying to insert new data in cells (2
seconds in my machine: Sony VAIO PCG-TR3, 1GHz Pentium Mobile, 1GB RAM).

In FC3 on OO.org 1.3 I could work much much more faster.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
openoffice.org-core-1.9.125-1.1.0

How reproducible:
Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open attached file
2. Try to insert new values in current cells

Actual Results: It takes 2 seconds for new value to appear and OO.org be
responsive again

Expected Results: Insertion of values should be immediate

0. I use HUNGARIAN version of OpenOffice.org 1.9.125 (Build-1 Mon Aug 22)
Pavel Janik

1. I Switch on the Datasources button
2. Choose a Table of a Database
3. Click one (date) type column of the Table (the format is -MM-DD HH:MM)
4. Rightclick, Column Format; Date format to -MM-DD
5. The format of that column is O.K. it is in -MM-DD format
Here I switch off the Datasources button
Then I switch on the Datasources button to see the same Table again
6. The column format is in the original format (see in the 3. point above
-MM-DD HH:MM)

This is my problem, because printing e.g. an invoice I have to change all the
lost format columns!

I hope it was a valuable information!
Kind regards: Zsolt Jenei

See the ubuntu bug for more details, but there seems to be some bug in the
import filter that crashes/hardlocks openoffice.

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ apt-cache show openoffice.org2 |grep Version:
Version: 1.9.125+2.0beta2-1ubuntu1

Using a recent Ubuntu Breezy development version.

I think that this can all be done as styles as shown in the attached examples.

I don't think, it's a problem with the font replacement, because I have that
font installed on my PC, so it is not replaced, when I open the document.

To test it, create a document with a table in it. Uncheck the "split table
across pages" in the table properties. Save the document as odt and as doc.
Close and reopen them both. The odt will still have the table property as set
before, but the doc will have a checkmark at that option, even though it was
unchecked before saving it.

Pavel, I'm only "content developer" so I cannot change other people's status I

think. Richard, could you set the status of user nemeth? Actually, shouldn't
it be set to "Project Owner"? That was discussed on the mailing list ("Re:
[lingu-dev] Hunspell public prerelease" by "Kevin B. Hendricks" 2005-07-23).
