My documents are all in .sxw format. When I load a document into OpenOffice.org 2 build 1.9.125 and hit backspace while at the beginning of a paragraph, I lose the indenting; instead, the cursor jumps to the left margin. It seems to me the proper behavior would be to back the paragraph up one line to the previous line, making it part of the previous paragraph. This one is difficult to replicate considering they didn’t attach the spreadsheet they were using. I tried inserting a new spreadsheet myself with date & decimal data, however no unexpected behavior was encountered. The steps I followed were: File -> Export as PDF Selected a PDF to overwrite in the ensuing export dialogue Clicked 'Export' in the next dialogue The error messages then generate. I agree it would be nice to have a more detailed message stating that another program is using the file. This way the user will know that another program is currently accessing the document and that they need to close it. There is still sound from the first movie, but no picture on this one. This can be tested with very small movie files. 1. Open Impress 2. Insert 2 movies 3. Create blank slide 4. Start slideshow from blank slide 5. Navigate to movies When I do this, both movies play, but whichever one gets picture first, immediately loses it after the last movie begins playing, while sound can still be heard. If however the blank slide contains a movie (any movie), when navigating to the slide with multiple movies, all of them will play correctly. I don’t know whether this is related to the above problem or not, but they sound very similar. Stephen Decker - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [sw-issues] [Issue 38420] Inserted graphics are sca led -> wrong sizes in HTML export

I can confirm that .JPG images inserted into Writer on my system then exported as HTML are indeed resized. The image I used for the test was an image for a flyer (handout) I had made in Photoshop, sized 1275 x 1650 pixels. I inserted the picture (Insert, Picture, From File) in Writer, then saved it as an HTML file (File, Save As, HTML Document). I then opened FireFox and loaded the HTML file I had just saved. I right clicked on the image and checked the properties. The images’ new dimensions were 665px by 860px. This is coded in with HTML, the image file itself was not modified. The change in image size could be very important to web developers who count on images to line up properly on a menu or layout, or count on their size for any other formatting reasons. The priority on this one is minor overall since it does not cause the program to crash, and it doesn’t even overwrite your .JPG file, but it should be taken into serious account if anyone plans on using this software for affordable web development. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Judging by the previous comments, I assumed JMF was not the problem, and did not try to install it on my system. The steps I performed were: 1. Create new blank presentation 2. Insert > Object > Plug-In... 3. Browse to the quicktime file referenced above The file opened correctly in the slide preview window, sound and all. When I tried to execute the slide show, however, all that was displayed was the plug- in graphic, and the movie did not play. As a follow-up test, I tried opening the same quicktime file using the Insert > Movie and Sound command. I was treated with a error box saying "The format of the selected file is not supported." The movie file played correctly when executed from the desktop. I am using Quicktime version 6.5. Rosado Computer: Dell PC OS: Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 2 OpenOffice Version: OpenOffice 2.0 Beta 2 Processor: Pentium 4 CPU 1.80 GHz Memory: 52.6 GB, 256 RAM Video: ATI Radeon 9600 Series Computer: Dell PC OS: Linux Suse 9.2 OpenOffice Version: OpenOffice 1.13 Processor: Pentium 4 CPU 1.80 GHz Memory: 52.6 GB, 256 RAM Video: ATI Radeon 9600 Series I tested this in both on WinXp using Openoffice 2.0 Beta 2 and on Suse 9.2 using an older version of OpenOffice (version 1.13). The results were the following: When using WinXp, I created several powerpoint presentations in Microsoft PowerPoint in the following sizes: 13.5 MB, 10.4 MB, 8.60 MB, 5.90 MB, and 2.54 MB. Each powerpoint presentation had text, jpeg pictures, and color in the background. I had extreme difficulty in open both the 13.5 MB, 10.4 MB and even the 8.60 MB files. They were extremely slow when importing the powerpoint presentation, taking several minutes while slowing my computer process significantly. When the files did open, Impress was slow to respond to my commands when trying to navigate and switch views (sorter, outline, normal, and slideshow). However, when viewing the slide show, there was no problem and the program did not slow down or lag. With the 2.54 and the 5.90MB files, they acted normal when loading and caused no errors or problems when editing or viewing them. When using Suse, I had almost similar responses that I had in WinXp. For the 13.5 MB, 10.4 MB, and the 8.60 MB file, they were slow to open taking the 10.4 MB file 7 mins and 36 seconds to load, the 10.4 MB 4 mins and 44 seconds, and the 8.6 MB file 2 min and 56 seconds. Afterwards, the program was slow in responding to my commands as it was in WinXp and the slideshow was able to be display with no problems or lagging. However, all three files froze when trying to close the program by selecting file in the toolbar and then close. The 5.9 MB file took 1 min and 9 seconds to open the file, but I did not experience any problems when navigating and editing the slides. The 5.9 MB file also had no problem when closing the file. The 2.5 MB file acted as normal and almost instantly open the powerpoint presentation and gave me no problems when editing, viewing, and closing the slides. Microsoft PowerPoint on the other hand, is capable of opening all the files with in reasonable time and little difficulty in editing, navigating, or closing the slides. If OpenOffice is going to compete as an alternative office software suite, it is important that it should be able to behave similar to PowerPoint if not better under certain conditions. The ability to respond quickly is an important attribute of any program or service even when opening files as big as 5.9MB. For this reason, this bug should be considered important. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [graphics-issues] [Issue 53733] appear-dim with colour cu stom animations does not have any delay
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=53733 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sat Sep 10 19:46:49 -0700 2005 --- OOo 1.9.125 Laptop - XP Pro Sp2, Pentium 4 3.00GHz, 512MB Ram, ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 Desktop - XP Pro Sp2, Pentium 4 3.20GHz, 1.00GB Ram, Radeon 9800 Pro I get the same effect, to replicate: 1. Open Impress 2. Create a text field (or any object really) 3. Create any other object (I use smiley faces) 4. Go to Custom Animations 5. Add appear effect to the text field 6. Under effect options -> After animation -> select dim with color, and then choose any color. 7. Now add any effect to your second object 8. Enter Slideshow 9. Left click once, The text will appear, and will very quickly change to your selected color 10. Left click again, new object will appear using whatever effect you chose. Initially I felt this was fine as it would usually take a second or so for the colors to change, however, currently there is a slight delay before the text appears and it often appears already having changed to the new color. I’m unsure what I did to introduce this slight delay, because none of the delay options are over 0.0 seconds. This isn’t too bothersome because there is a simple enough workaround. Start over, and do numbers 1-5 as shown above, then: 6. Select your second object and add any effect. 7. Select your text again, and add a new effect under the Emphasis tab “Change Font Color” 8. Under the Custom Animations area, select “with previous” under the start selection, and choose your font color. 9. There should now be three custom animations, the first being your appear text, the second being your object effect, and the last being the change font color for your text. 10. Enter Slideshow Now when you left click the second time (step 10 in the first group), both the text color changes and the second animation play simultaneously. If there is no slight delay in your text display, you can attempt an even simpler workaround. This did work for me at first, but when the text began taking a second or so to show up, I felt the above was the only surefire solution. Do the first 7 steps, and while adding the effect to the second object, have it start “After previous”. The timing is slightly different than the other solution I have, but it may work fine for you, and save you from creating an extra animation. This may be working as designed, though I’ll check to see if I can get rid of that delay in my text. Hope this helps. First, I created a 3 slide presentation with the titles left to their default state. When i created the summary slide, it created a list of 3 bullets with the titles of each of the three slides. It was the default Arial size 32 text. I then changed the fonts on the 3 slides and created a new summary slide but got the exact same thing: Arial size 32 font. Next, i created a 14 slide presentation. I used several different fonts and sizes in the titles. I also had several titles that were 2 lines. This caused the problem. When i created the summary slide, it made a new slide at the end of the presentation. It was a bulleted list, left justified, Arial size 32 font. The list did not retain the text format of the actual titles, and it also ran off the bottom of the slide. If anyone wants a summary slide but has more tha 9 slides, it will run off the bottom of the page. Granted, they can change it manually, but as it is now it presents a user inconvenience. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. First, I tested the presentation in Microsoft Powerpoint (part of Office XP) and it worked fine with no lagging sound or display issues. Then, I opened the slide show in Impress and ran it without changes. It did not crash or freeze, but the text display and sound was very laggy. The timing was way off. I changed the speed that the text came in at but still had lag issues even when I delayed nearly a full second between each character. However, despite the lagging sound/text i could not reproduce a crash. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. To replicate: 1. Open Impress, Create a new presentation 2. To use form controls go to View -> Toolbars -> Form Controls 3. Create a push button in the upper left hand corner of the slide. (this can be done anywhere but the problem is most easily shown in the upper left hand corner) 4. Enter slideshow (Press f5) 5. Label is missing, and bug cannot be clicked. 6. Exit slideshow 7. Toggle Design mode off (right next to select in the form control toolbar) 8. Enter slideshow again. On both of my machines, the button is now displayed and clickable but it is partly outside the boundaries of the slideshow, at the very top left of my screen. Oddly enough, the same button that we viewed in step 5 when Design mode is turned on is still there, in the correct position and behind the new, offset, clickable button. This occurs with every form control. In addition, the following controls display the actual working area behind them in addition to themselves: Labels, Option buttons, Check boxes, Group Box, Image Button. You can repeat the above steps with any form control, and get the same offset placement, and the same missing label/not usable version of it in the correct position, but underneath the new controls. I also replicated the second bug, where the controls will follow you to the next slides. Continuing from the above: 9. Create a new slide below the current slide. 10. Make sure Design mode is off (will not work when on for me) 11. Enter slideshow 12. Go to next slide All of the controls from the previous slide carry over to the new one. This works both forwards and backwards. If there are two or more slides with control forms, only the slide that you start the presentation on has the carry over effect, and the forms on the other slides are not usable. You can in fact still enter data in the carried over forms that will remain persistent after the slideshow ends. When testing this I found that regardless of whether design mode was on or off, if you start the slideshow in a slide with no form controls, any additional slides with form controls will be unusable and will appear as if design mode was on. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. The results were the following: When using WinXp I was able to insert several sound and video files (MP3, Wave, AU, OGG, Windows Media Audio/Video, MIDI, AVI, MPEG, and Real Audio/Video files. Each one varying in file size), including the attach file on this bug report (http://free-lectrons.com/pub/audio/torvalds-says-linux.wav) with no errors by the following methods: First Method: 1.) Open OpenOffice Impress and select Insert from the tool bar. 2.) Chose the sound file (http://free- electrons.com/pub/audio/torvalds-says-linux.wav) Second Method: 1.) Open OpenOffice Impress. 2.) Drag and Drop the file into Impress However I received a format of file in not supported error message when inserting the OGG file and an Insert Text window when I tried to drag and drop the OGG file and Real Audio/Video. Other problems included difficulty in playing large MP3 files (10.3 MB) during the slide show. When using Linux, I repeated the two methods for inserting the sound/video files. Using both methods, I was only able to insert wave files only. I received an Insert Text window when trying to insert all the other audio and video files. It appears that this is an error that only appears in Linux and has not been fixed in the last OpenOffice release. Microsoft PowerPoint on the other hand, is capable of inserting all the sound and video files that I tested on OppenOffice with the exception of Real Audio/Video. If OpenOffice is going to compete as an alternative office software suite, it is important that it should be able to behave similar to PowerPoint if not better under certain conditions. And in the case of being able to insert sound and video into a presentation is an important feature in a slide show program and therefore this bug should be considered important and attempted to be fixed as soon as possible. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. We first went to the saved file and used "Open With" and opened it using OO. The table was unreadable. We then tried moving the table and it resized. Now it was pefectly readable. From there on we ran into a different problem. These are the steps we did: - We opened file with "Open With" and used OO. - We moved the table to resize it. - Double click the table to have it open in Microsoft Word. - Return to Impress, now the object is just a picture of an Object Icon. - The object was now only viewable thru MS Word. - We then clicked the "Save" icon on the toolbar. - We got an error message stating there was an error in formating. We proceeded with the save - The table reappered on the impress slide. - Close Impress. - Open the same file again. - The table is no longer on the file. The table would be replaced with an Object Icon picture everytime we clicked it except when we clicked the "Save" icon before doubleclicking on the table. We then tryed with using the "Save" icon after we double-clicked on the table and it would also reappear. If we saved before doubleclicking, the table would appear in the file once we reopened it. If we didn't do this we would get the error and then not have the table in the document. Also if you clicked the "Save" button at any point, before or after, and then access the table. The table would not change to the Object Icon even after accessing it. We tryed all of this by opening the file from an empty slide of Impress and all the steps were reproducible. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. We tested with a a slideshow of moderate size, about 10-20 slides. When we used the "Summary Slide" under the Insert heading it created the summary slide. We then proceeded to view the slide. The summary slide contained a list of the titles of the preceeding slides. The list was bulleted and left margin justified. The list ran off the slide. It went so far down that we had to move the text box up to be able to see the end of the list. The list also retains the formatting of the titles from their original slides. This makes the list even bigger. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=54438 Issue #:|54438 Summary:|UI: Handle indenting in a more logical manner Component:|Word processor Version:|OOO 2.0 Beta2 Platform:|All URL:| OS/Version:|Linux Status:|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard:| Keywords:| Resolution:| Issue type:|ENHANCEMENT Priority:|P3 Subcomponent:|ui Assigned to:|mru Reported by:|nigelenki --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sat Sep 10 16:03:29 -0700 2005 --- OpenOffice seems to not have a concept of hanging indent; rather, first line indent is negative. For example, to hang at 1cm, set indent to 1cm, and first line indent to -1cm. This is brain damage. Fix this UI crap in format->paragraph; I don't care how the backend does it, show it to me in a smart way. Look at how Abiword does their indenting interface, or even MS Word. This is better; it separates the concepts of first line and hanging indents, instead of making the user come up with hacks on indent/first line add and subtract junk. Also see #172 and #12565 for related issues. This is most closely a duplicate of #12565, although I'm attacking the root of the problem (the UI for moving things around) directly rather than complaining about the effects. There may be other changes needed to satisfy #12565, like changing the sliders on the ruler to a triangle-triangle-tab setup like in Word/AbiWord - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. I am running OpenOffice 1.9.125 on a Windows XP Home SP2 machine. I will add a presentation that shows this shortly. While creating this document, OpenOffice crashed several times. I had to proceed very carefully to save this correctly. The last time that it crashed (the time I have the most information about), I had only added a text box. I saved, and the program crashed on me. I am not sure whether or not this is related to the animation problem. The only time Impress has crashed on me today (and I have been testing several bugs in Impress today) was when I tested this animation issue. I hope this little bit of information helps you track down this bug. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Using a text frame for the continuous text is not a good idea. Just try following two things with your document to see the problem: - Fill the inner text frame until the page is full. Add more text. You frame does expand. But the user expects is, that (as usual) a new page starts. - Try to insert a manual page break. Guess you cannot - it's disabled. So, for continuous text over multiple pages you solution doesn't work. Sorry. Maybe you find a better one... - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=53940 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sat Sep 10 10:22:54 -0700 2005 --- Derek Brown September 10, 2005 I was able to reproduce the bug exactly as described. My system has the following specs: Windows XP Home SP2 512 MB RAM AMD Athlon XP 3000 Processor Nvidia GeForce4 MX Graphics Card I also did some follow up testing with this bug, and noted that the callouts duplicate themselves even when the original one is not moved. I followed the steps several times, and saw the following problems: After 9 save-close-reopen cycles, the spreadsheet took over 18 seconds to load. On the 10th cycle, it took over a minute and reached a size of 20 KB. After only the 11th cycle, it took over 4 minutes to load, and was 32 KB in size. I created a new spreadsheet file with only numbers in it that was 39 KB, and it loaded in no time. I fear that it would be easy for users to miss that callouts are being duplicated every time they save, rapidly increasing loading time and file size. Therefore, I believe that this issue should be upgraded to at least P4 status, and perhaps P3. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. It is quite surprising to me that this has still not been implemented into the OpenOffice suite, which is one of the main reasons why I still use Microsoft Office as my main office software program. This is quite a big let down considering OpenOffice is much easier to use than MSOffice, in my opinion at least, and could be a competitor in the world market if more functionality of this sort was implemented. It is a shame that I am no longer recommending OpenOffice to my fellow classmates at my college because of this one issue, but it severly limits my, and their, ability to complete scientific analyses of the data we have gathered. The CPU usage ranges between 50% to 60% while loading. I tried various screen resolution settings for my display from 800 x 600 to 1440 x 900. In the options dialog I tried various combinations (to many to list) of Options with OpenOffice.org -> Memory, Load/Save -> General, Load/Save -> Properties and Load/Save -> Microsoft Office. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=19292 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sat Sep 10 08:06:37 -0700 2005 --- I'd like to say how many people may be affected by this feature: my mother is a translator. She usually works with the original document and the translated one on split windows and cannot work in OpenOffice because there is no way she can see the original document while editing the translation. ALL translators I know love this split screen thing so they don't need to stop editing some document to look at the original. I think this should be included in Open Office 2.0 Final. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Click one (date) type column of the Table (the format is -MM-DD HH:MM) 4. Rightclick, Column Format; Date format to -MM-DD 5. The format of that column is O.K. it is in -MM-DD format Here I switch off the Datasources button Then I switch on the Datasources button to see the same Table again 6. The column format is in the original format (see in the 3. point above -MM-DD HH:MM) This is my problem, because printing e.g. an invoice I have to change all the lost format columns! I hope it was a valuable information! Kind regards: Zsolt Jenei - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. To test it, create a document with a table in it. Uncheck the "split table across pages" in the table properties. Save the document as odt and as doc. Close and reopen them both. The odt will still have the table property as set before, but the doc will have a checkmark at that option, even though it was unchecked before saving it. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
